It was dark. Sure, she could have gotten up to turn on the light, but why bother? It had been nearly three months since Lyri and Bulma had left Namek. Nix had regained his conciseness. Lyri has so many questions for him, but she also had an unexplainable hatred and anger towards him. She also had anger towards herself that she couldn’t explain. These emotions exhausted her.
Lyri sat up in bed and stretched. She was exhausted, yes, but she wasn’t going to mope around in her room...anymore. She got up and pulled on a pair of shorts before leaving her room. She walked to the galley and poured herself some coffee. She sat down at a table and stared into the cup.
‘You went from moping in your room to moping in the kitchen. Good job! Great improvement!’ she thought to herself sarcastically.
“Hey! You’re up!” Bulma said cheerfully as walked in.
“Yeah. Sorry I’ve been keeping to myself,” Lyri told her.
“Don’t worry about it. You died and came back to life. It’d be weird if you were a hundred percent normal right away,” Bulma replied. Lyri shrugged. “Want to talk?”
Lyri shrugged again. “Yeah, my death has affected me, but that’s not really why I’ve been so distant.”
“Then why?” Bulma asked. Nix walked in at that moment and Bulma smiled at him. He grabbed some coffee and sat next to Bulma.
“Am I interrupting?” Nix asked looking between the two women.
“Nope,” Lyri quickly told him. As much as she wanted to get everything off her chest, she wanted to work through it herself before she told them. If she told them. “How’re you doing?”
“Well, I was hit-“ Nix started before Bulma cut him off.
“Sorry, Nix, but Lyri was fixing to explain why she’s been so mopey,” Bulma said.
“Why? Is it because she isn’t getting any?” Nix asked jokingly.
“Nix, no one is getting any here...” Bulma told him.
Lyri was quiet, staring into her cup. Her one night with Vegeta flashed through her mind quickly followed by the morning after where they said it would never happen again.
“Lyri? You ok?” Bulma asked, “Nix was just joking.”
“I wasn’t trying to upset you,” Nix told her.
“I’m fine,” Lyri said, her voice cracking as she tried not to get emotional.
“Damn it, Nix! You made her cry!” Bulma snapped.
“I’m sorry. It wasn’t meant to be anything more than a silly comment,” Nix told her. He was silent, watching Lyri as she struggled to contain her composure. “Can I ask you a question?” Lyri nodded. “That question you asked me. Would you sleep with someone you didn’t care for? That wasn’t rhetorical, was it?”
“No,” Lyri mumbled.
“You and Vegeta had sex? Did you mate?” Nix asked. Lyri shook her head. “What did he do after?”
“He said we needed to talk. When he said that...I just knew he meant that he didn’t want it to happen again,” Lyri said.
Nix got up and sat next to Lyri, pulling her into a one-armed hug. “I’m so sorry. I should have realized what you were really asking. Had I known that Vegeta was leading you on, my advice would have been very different. I hope you realize you deserve to be treated better.”
“But you both didn’t see how Vegeta acted after Lyri died,” Bulma told them, “He wasn’t his usual self.”
“I got Bulma’s side of what happened after I died. I’ve been meaning to ask for yours,” Lyri said to Nix.
Nix sighed. “You have to understand, your death sent me into a rage that even I didn’t know I could tap into. You were the first Saiyan that showed me any sort of compassion, so when you died...I kinda snapped...”
“What did you do?” Lyri asked.
“He blew up two people and put a hit on Vegeta,” Bulma said like it wasn’t a big deal.
“What?!” Lyri asked.
“I made Nappa and Turles explode. I teleported into the throne room and killed the king...” he started.
“What?!” Lyri interrupted.
“As I said, I wasn’t really thinking,” Nix told her, “I kinda realized what I did after the fact. Anyway...after I killed the king, I went to see if he had my file. He did. Needless to say, there was a lot of information.”
“What was in there?” Lyri asked.
“I found out who my mother and father are. The king had my mother killed for saying that the king kidnapped her son. Oh, and my mother was one of the king’s mistresses,” Nix quickly told her.
“Oh my gods! You’re related to Vegeta?!” Bulma yelled. Lyri started at Nix, speechless.
“After that, Kiki showed up. I overpowered her and tossed her ass in prison. I had a lot of questions, as any normal person would have. I addressed the people, telling them to bring me Vegeta. I overreacted and people died. And kinda, sorta put a hit on Vegeta...” he said. Lyri smacked him upside the head. “I deserve that...” He continued to explain what happened. How he had read more files from the program and questioned Kiki only to find out that she had known about everything and had a hand in Lyri’s death.
“Fucking bitch,” Lyri muttered.
“Oh, I dealt with her,” Nix told her. He told them how he banished Kiki, setting her pod to explode when it got to its destination. How he got the Saiyans away from Frieza. “Fucking bastard tried to kill us all though,” he muttered, “I don’t know what I was going to do but, I was trying to come up with something incase Frieza was planning to backstab me. And then Vegeta and the others fell out of the sky in the throne room.”
“Vegeta wanted to know what was going on back home and saw that Frieza was going to destroy the planet. I had the Namekians send them back to help,” Lyri explained.
“Well, thanks for sending them back,” Nix said, “Had they not, there probably wouldn’t be a planet to go back too.”
“Seemed like the right thing to do...” Lyri said.
Nix stood up, wanting to get some food. A sharp pain made him wince. “I’m going to go lay down. If you want to talk more, you know where to find me.”
Bulma watched him leave before saying, “Vegeta really was affected by your death.”
“Yeah, well, someone he knew died, so it’s going to affect him,” Lyri said. She was grateful that Bulma was trying to cheer her up but she didn’t want to get her hopes up that Vegeta actually cared for her.
“No, no...it was more. It was...crap! What’d they call it? I can’t remember!” Bulma told her.
“Guilt?” Lyri asked.
“No,” Bulma told her.
“Depression?” Lyri asked again.
“No,” Bulma said.
“Anger?” Lyri suggested.
“No! I mean, yes, but no!” Bulma said.
“Well, when you remember, let me know,” Lyri said, “Hungry?” Bulma nodded while trying to think. Lyri got up and cooked, setting a plate in front of Bulma when she was done. She grabbed another plate and loaded it up. “Gonna take this to Nix,” she told Bulma as she walked out. She walked down to Nix’s room and knocked on the door.
“Come in,” he said.
Lyri opened the open and poked her head in. “Hey. Don’t know if you’re hungry, but I brought you some food.”
“Guess I should eat,” Nix joked. She walked in and handed him the plate. She sat next him on the bed. It was quiet for a while. “So...this might be an odd question...but what’s death like?”
Lyri shrugged. “I mean...it hurt...the dying part. Hell’s actually kinda nice...”
“Go on...” he said, intrigued.
“I don’t really remember much. There was a blood lake...” Lyri told him, “Spirits look like little white wisps. The guy running everything is kinda angry all the time.”
“Yeah, can kinda see how that’d be kinda fun,” Nix said.
Lyri stretched and stood up. She turned to face Nix. “You should get some more rest. You’re not fooling me. You’re still hurt,” she told him.
“What are you talking about? I’m completely fine,” Nix told her.
“Hey,” she said, looking into his onyx eyes, “We’re not back home. You’re not in the king’s fucked up program. You don’t need to pretend like you’re ok.”
Nix stared into Lyri’s amethyst eyes, mesmerized by the concern that he saw in them. “I guess you’re right.”
She smiled at him. “Bulma or I will come check up on you later.”
“I’ll see you later,” he told her.
