Chapter 2:

Juggling a small bowl of water with a bath towel, Hilary sighed as she opened the door to Kai’s room. She turned on the lights, but immediately lowered it to a low dim. From what she could see, it was the standard hotel room with small balcony.

“This is just great,” Hilary sighed as she entered the room. It was an unearthly feeling- here she was, finally alone with the guy she was in love with and he was out cold. She just wasn’t up to looking on him just yet. A quick glance told her that he was covered and he was not in any pain. So she put the small bowl and towel on the table lamp next to his bed, reached into her pocket and put Dranzer next to them then simply turned away.

She went over to the small balcony and drew the shades apart, enough for her to see the glittering city below and enough so that the lights wouldn’t wake the recuperating Kai. The full moon shone high above the city and through the sky scrapers, giving the illusion that it was playing with them. “This really isn’t my luck- I have a great view and no one to share it with. Just when I wanted to tell him how I felt- he does this. What a way to stop a conversation.”

Hilary started to open the doors to the balcony, just to step outside when she heard a low moan coming from behind her. As she rushed over to Kai’s side, Kai flung his blankets away from his body and tried to roll out of the bed, muttering, “Too hot- too hot.”

Kai was dreaming again. He knew it. He had to be dreaming because his body wasn’t listening to him. It had to be a dream because he knew he escaped from the abbey. But here he was in the abbey again- No matter, he had to get away. He had to get out of there fast. He could feel his body burning up- he knew where he was. He was in the abbey boiler room- near the trash incinerators. He had to leave before his body burned up. “Gotta…get out…”

“Hold it right there, mister,” Hilary ordered as she stopped him from falling to the floor. She drew in a sharp breath when her hands contacted hot skin. She was so startled that she almost lost her grip on him. “The doctor didn’t say you were naked!”

“Uh- hot!” Kai muttered as he forced himself away. “Gotta…get away…”

Hilary shook her head as she forced her eyes to look away from Kai’s body. “This is so not good! Focus, Hilary! Focus!”

Ignoring her fast beating heart and wild thoughts, she wrapped her arms around his bare torso, her face so close to his neck that she could smell him. Resting her forehead against his temple, Hilary closed her eyes as she resisted the urge to nuzzle the crook of his neck. Taking a deep breath, she took in his faint scent of sweat, medicine and soap…and found it strangely erotic. She really wanted to- “Get a hold of yourself, Hil. You can’t lick him- it’s very unsanitary. And he’s not even awake, so you can’t take advantage of an unconscious naked guy.”

With a not a small amount of regret, Hilary, with all her strength, forcibly hauled him back up the bed. And landed half sprawled on top of him. “Jeez, Kai, you would have to be all muscle.”

“So hot- too hot,” Kai muttered again as he tried to get up again. He felt so tired, but he had to move. He started to push at the thing that was on top of him, holding him down. They caught him! “Gotta get out- gotta get out of here…”

“Oh, no you don’t,” Hilary said as she caught his shoulders in her hands, keeping him down. She gasped as she felt how slick from sweat his skin was. “You’re definitely not going anywhere, Kai. And certainly not in your birthday suit. Think of the riots-Eep!”

“You can’t hold me!” Kai shouted as he struggled harder against the hands that held him down. He flipped the person over and held his hands over his head. Panting from the exertion, Kai snarled, “You can’t keep me here!”

“Kai! Stop this!” Hilary shouted into his face as she struggled to get her hands free. She saw that his dark eyes had a glazed look. ‘He’s not seeing me!’ “Kai! It’s me-Hilary! Wake up!”

She bucked her body up against his, trying to dislodge him, but he pressed his hard body down on hers, pinning her to the mattress. Hilary felt her face start to flush as she realized that his legs were between hers and she could feel *everything* about him. And boy did he feel… ‘Focus Hilary! Focus!’ Swallowing hard, Hilary tried to ignore her body’s reaction to him. “Kai! Just wake up! Kai!”

The body beneath him started to struggle even more, so he pinned him down with his legs. When that body stilled, Kai frowned as he bought his face closer to his prisoner’s. He felt a wave of weakness go through his arms and was very angry that his body was starting to fail him. “You won’t keep me here! I’ll kill you before I stay!” He felt his body falling into the dark and fought it as hard as he could. “I won’t stay!”

With that promise, he finally gave in to the dark.

“Kai!” Hilary squeaked out as he brought his face closer to hers, delivering his threat. Afraid to make another move, she stayed still as he gripped her wrists harder. Just as he brought his face closer, Hilary held her breath, afraid of what he was going to do. Her eyes widened at the vehemence in his voice.

Then Kai slumped over her, taking the breath from her lungs. When he didn’t moved, her hands timidly brought him closer to her and she simply held him. Wild thoughts raced through her mind as she reached up to stroke his hair. “Oh, Kai! What was that all about? What have you been through?”

Hilary bit her lip as she stroked his head. She had never seen his face be filled with so much hatred. She had seen his winter look- the one where he could stare right through you, his looks of anger and once in a while, a look of confusion. Heck, she’d even seen him crack a smile, but she had never seen him with that look of hatred. “Oh, Kai…what am I going to do?”

Closing her eyes, Hilary sighed. Waking him up- that wasn’t an easy thing to do. Especially if he was hallucinating. And what did Grandpa say…oh, yeah. Let him ride them out. “You would have to defy the odds and start hallucinating, Kai.” Shaking her head, she started to place her hands on his shoulders. “But first thing’s first, as pleasant as it is, I really gotta get out from under you.”

Smelling the faint scent of lilacs, Kai smiled and knew that he was dreaming that dream again. The one that made his nights seem less lonely and his days filled with a longing he was used to. The dream where she was his and he was the only one she cared about. He took in her scent again and smiled as he nuzzled against the scent of her. “Hilary…my Hilary.”

“Kai?” Hilary’s hand froze when she felt him nuzzle her ear. Shivers of pleasure tingled through her body. She turned her head to look at him and gasped when she saw a dreamy smile on his face. ‘Oh no, he’s still dreaming!’ She placed her hands on his shoulders, ready to push him away from her. To hell with him riding them out! “Kai- you need to wake up! Oh God!”

“Oh, Kai!” Hilary moaned as Kai latched on to her ear lobe with his mouth. She threaded her fingers through his hair as she brought him closer to her. His body shifted closer and she moaned at the movement, sensations went through her like electricity racing through her body. The scent of him, the feel of him against her- it was like nothing she had ever felt before.

“You’re- you’re here, my Hilary,” Kai breathed as he grabbed Hilary’s hand and kissed her knuckles then her inner wrist.

Hilary remained silent as Kai kissed her hands, then her wrist. Her heart started beating faster as he kissed and lightly nipped his way to her elbow. My God, she never knew how sensitive her arm was! “Kai…”

“Hilary,” Kai whispered as he lifted his head to look at her under lowered lids. He gave her a lazy, unguarded smile as he let go of her hand and cupped her face. He brought his face closer to hers. She looked so beautiful in the moonlight- so precious. This was the Hilary that only he could have. It was his Hilary in the moonlight- she was the one that was his alone. Not the one that existed in the day time, that Hilary was never his alone. She belonged to the Blade breakers- she belonged to someone else. “My Hilary…my night angel…”

“Night…night angel?” Breathless, Hilary stayed still as Kai gently cupped her face with his trembling hands. His fevered eyes stared right through her- as if he were seeing an illusion. He brought his face closer to hers. “Kai…what- what are you talking about?”

“My dream angel…” Ever so gently he peppered her face with kisses. He nuzzled her against her ear and smiled as she shivered at his touch. “At night… you’re mine… mine alone… not Tyson’s… not Kenny’s… not Max’s… mine.”

‘He dreams of me?’ Hilary’s eyes widened at his words. “I’m not anyone’s Kai- I’m just me.”

“You-you always say that,” Kai breathed as he kissed her lips gently. He nipped her chin as his hands gathered her hair in his fists. Not moving, Hilary was mesmerized as his soft grey eyes turned to steel. Steel filled with the pain of loneliness. “But I know better- when the sun’s out, you’re not mine. As much as I wish it, want it…I know you’re not. I see you smile at them- at Tyson- at Max- at Kenny. And that’s fine- you don’t belong to me in the sun. But this is the night- and at night you’re mine!”

“Kai!” Hilary managed to squeak before his mouth crashed down on to her hers. All thoughts vanished as he consumed her, taking everything from her.

And consume her, he did. Sensations assaulted every part of her body. His mouth- his hands- they were everywhere. She felt him all over her body- leaving a trail of fire wherever he touched. Every nerve she had felt as if it were on fire and it all started with his mouth. She couldn’t remember where she was, who she was. Everything in her was concentrated on his devouring mouth that was eating her up body and soul. She had no anchor- nothing to hold on to except for him. “Kai!”

‘Mine!’ Kai thought as he felt nothing except for her. There was nothing that he wanted more than her. And he wanted every thing- but this was all he could get. This was the only thing he could get. Dreams of her- dreams where she wanted him, where she loved him.

His dreams were always different. Some of them, she was simply by his side, filling him with a sense of peace. Others were of them together, doing whatever it was that couples normally do, filling him tenderness. And then there were those dreams- the dreams that would leave him messy and filled with want. The dreams that made him hot and aching for her.

And from the way his body was aching, it looked like this was going to be one of those dreams again. Hallelujah!
