Chapter 3

(To recap)
“What the hell?!” Takao yelled, his beyblade flying past his head and into the far wall, which happened to have a ladder on which Hitoshi was to be climbing down. “Hitoshi!! Look out!!” Takao shouted to late as the beyblade cracked the latter in half sending Hitoshi careening through the air. “Nooo!”

-

Hitoshi wasn’t sure what was happening, he’d felt the ladder beneath him break, and suddenly it was gone and all he felt was air around him. Some part of his mind alerted him to the fact that he was falling, and falling fast, acknowledging this Hitoshi attempted to twist around so that he could land on his feet when he hit the ground. However this seemed, as he wasn’t flying down, but horizontally.

Sailing across the yard everyone stood still as they watched in horror as Hitoshi nearly hit a wall across the way.

“Hitoshi!!” Takao yelled and ran over to him as he was gently placed on his feet. “How did you? Never mind, are you alright?” He asked, eyes wide with worry

“I’m fine.” The elder Kinomiya brother stated, his voice only shaking slightly, as he dusted himself off. “But what happened?”

“I...really don\'t know...But you\'re really ok?” Takao asked, and looked his brother over.

Hitoshi nodded. “I’ve been through worse things than that. Now stop worrying Takao it looks like we have another problem to deal with. He gestured to the side where Kai had Taka cornered and was busy yelling at the child.

“What were you doing!?” Kai growled menacingly. “You had no right to interrupt that match brat!” The slate haired teen was holding Taka up by his clothes and was glaring at him venomously.

Rei ran over to them and grabbed Kai’s arm. “Kai stop it! He’s just a kid leave him alone!” He cried attempting to get Kai to release Taka.

Growling Kai threw Rei off him and glared down at the longhaired blader. “Stay out of this neko-jin!” He shouted angrily, spitting the name out like it was poison. “You’re not to get involved Kon.”

Rei looked up at him gold eyes wide with shock and hurt, he wasn’t angry but he wasn’t happy either. Determined he rose again to attempt to free Taka only to be shoved down again.

“Stay put kitten if you know what’s good for you.” Kai threatened his voice cutting through the air like a steel blade.

Takao and Max looked at each other; they had never seen Kai act this way before.

“Kai stop, Hitoshi\'s okay and…” He suddenly stopped when he heard a dangerous howl from the wind.

“You hurt Rei-san! I will never forgive you!!” Taka shouted and Kai was thrown away into wall. Taka was glowing he began to yell however the voice that came out was defiantly not that of a child. “You dared to hit him, and also to yell at me?! I should take your head!”

Takao was starting to get frightened, not only him but also Max and the others as well. “Taka...?” He asked quietly.

“...” Taka gave him an even stare. “Do not try to stop me, he is exactly as the other one, and probably has alerted my presence to him as well.”

“What are you talking about?” Max shouted in fear.

“Do not interfere” Was all he said before Max simply fell over.

“Max!!” Takao shouted.

Hitoshi grabbed his brother’s arm before he ran off and kept hold of him. “Don’t move, it’s too dangerous at this time.”

Kai growled and struggled to stand facing Taka, or the area Taka was. “I’m not afraid of child like you.” Even though he’d noticed the change in Taka’s voice he paid it no heed. “And I haven’t alerted anyone so I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You\'re stupidity seems to be endless.” Taka deadpanned. “And I will now end it!” He said raising an arm with a tornado on the end of it he pointed it at Kai. “You die now.” He said calmly, however the voice of a child was slipping in again.

“Taka no!” Takao yelled, though he didn\'t move as his brother held him.

“Stop it!” Rei called struggling to his feet and running to stand between Taka and Kai, blocking Kai from the attack.

“Rei...san?” Taka asked, the childish voice slipping further in. “Have I made you angry?”

Rei shook his head causing his raven locks to move around him. “I’m not angry Taka, I just don’t like it when my friends are threatened or hurt. And I don’t like to see my friends threatening each other either.” Rei glanced quickly back over at Kai then returned to looking at Taka. “Kai’s my friend, even if he can be cold and slightly violent, but you are too, and I don’t want to see the two of you fighting. I don’t want anyone to get hurt.”

The wind died down completely and the attack in Taka\'s hand disappeared. “Rei-san...I\'m sorry...” Taka said tears welling up in his eyes. “I didn\'t mean it! Honest! But he hurt you and I was so angry!!” Tears began to freely slip down his face as he curled up into Rei sobbing, completely back to the four year old.

“It’s alright Taka, everyone gets mad every once in awhile.” Rei whispered soothingly. “No is angry with you, especially not me. There’s no need to cry or be sad little one.” Still whispering soothing words, Rei began to rock Taka back and forth in order to calm him. “There now it’s alright.”

Behind them Kai scoffed walked over to the dish, picked his blade up and left the area. He needed time to cool off and he knew it.

Takao sighed walking over, “You okay kiddo.”

Taka sniffled and looked up at Takao, “Hai, I\'m okay, but what about Max?”

Takao\'s eyes grew wide as he remembered his friend. “Max!” He ran over to him where Hitoshi and Kyouju were. “Max buddy, speak to me!”

“...Uhn?” Max murmured wincing. “Nani...?”

“You okay buddy?” Takao asked. “How many fingers am I holding up?”

“...8?” Max answered.

“He\'ll be fine.” Takao said smiling.

Rei shook his head a fond smile gracing his features as he watched his friends. “I think we’ve all had a little too much excitement for the morning. Why don’t we go inside and I’ll make us some tea?”

Takao smiled, “Okay. Um Hitoshi...” Takao looked at his brother, “Could you um, get Kai?” He asked, knowing Hitoshi was the only one that wouldn\'t get his head cut off from the phoenix blader.

Hitoshi shrugged. “I have no problem with it.” He walked off in the direction Kai had left intent on finding the fiery blader.

“Well then let’s go inside everyone, I’m sure we’re all dying to sit down and relax.” The attempt at the joke was lame and Rei laughed nervously after saying. “Sorry, not very funny huh?”

Taka laughed lightly and clung to Rei like a babe would to its mother “Rei-san, do you think Kai will hate me forever now?”

Rei shook his head as they all headed into the dojo. “If he hated you for one small thing like that then he must despise Takao and Max, who were always getting into things and ruining them while we were competing.” He smiled reassuringly down at Taka as he set the boy down and began to head into the kitchen to make the tea. “Don’t worry, Kai will only hold a bit of a grudge for some time.”

“Okay Rei-san” Taka said.

“You\'re so nice to us...” Takao said, helping Max to his seat.

“My head hurts....” Max whined.

“You\'ll be fine buddy.” Takao said patting him on the back, smiling when Max attempted to glare and only managed pout at him. “So Rei!” He said wandering into the kitchen to help Rei, but once he was in his voice dropped so only Rei could hear, “What do you think that was?” He asked thumbing over to Taka when he knew the child couldn\'t see him.

“I honestly don’t know Takao.” Rei answered truthfully as he set the tealeaves in the teapot to boil. “He has powers that aren’t common, and the rate at which he grows in simply unheard of. Scientifically he’s a walking enigma. But I think he’s just a boy that’s very much lost right now.”

“Hm, I think we call a meeting to discuss our friend.” Takao said, and in a louder voice he added, “Do you need any help with those cups?”

Taka sighed, though he didn\'t know what they were saying he knew they were talking about him.

“Hey cheer up.” Max said smiling.

“I\'m the reason your head hurt.” Taka commented.

“Oh? Then you have one killer of a left hook.” Max said laughing, till that caused him pain and he whimpered.

Kyouju looked up from his laptop. “It is unadvisable that you partake in too much strenuous or energy draining activities after suffering from an injury to the head.” That said he turned back to his laptop and resumed whatever it was that he had been doing.

From the kitchen Rei could be heard laughing as Takao attempted to juggle the teacups he’d said he would carry out. “Be careful Takao, I don’t think you grandfather would appreciate it very much if you dropped those.” He entered the sitting room and smiled. “Tea’s done.”

Takao smiled and placed the cups down, “I wonder if I should go make sure my brother’s still alive.”

Max looked at the tea, “Tea....” He said zombie-like and reached out to pour himself some of the tea.

Takao shook his head and walked outside to check on the two for-mentioned.

Rei’s voice drifted from the room as Takao walked out of the dojo. “No Max! No sugar! Put it down!”

Outside there didn’t appear to be any sign of Hitoshi or Kai, the courtyard was eerily silent.

Takao scratched his head, “Where could those two have gone?” he walked around to where the partially burnt dojo was. He stopped when he hears an odd sound coming from behind one of the small shrines in the yard.

Takao blinked a few times then wandered over to where the sounds were coming from. “Hitoshi? Kai? You two aren\'t killing each other are you?” he asked aloud, clearly annoyed. He walked around the corner in time to see Hitoshi and Kai leap off of each other. Wide-eyed he took in their forms, both with their clothes dishevelled and their hair tousled. Takao was no idiot, despite what the rumours might say, he knew exactly what had transpired before he had called out. “OH MY GOD!” He shouted, covering his mouth.

Hitoshi blushed slightly and began to attempt to calm Takao down. “Come on little bro calm down, it’s not what it looks like . . .well it is but just cam down!” He said aggravated when Takao didn’t respond. “Takao shut up!” He cried clamping a hand over to Takao’s mouth in order to silence him.

However the sound wasn\'t screaming, but rather laughter that followed, “Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Oh.My.God! You guys? Who would have thought it?” Takao saw their now profusely blushing faces and laughed harder, “Oh this is beautiful!”

Shaking his head Hitoshi let out a defeated sigh then shoved his brother up against the wall. “You tell anyone about this and I’ll show all your friends your pictures from grade school, especially the ones from the play.”

“Oh that\'s pure evil Hitoshi!” Takao said, choking slightly, as his brother’s arm was pressed against his throat. “But I wasn\'t gonna tell anyone, I swear!” A little frightened by the look Kai was giving him Takao turned back to his brother. “Really I do!”

“Fine, but one word slips out of your mouth.” Hitoshi said, making sure Takao understood the threat before he released the younger male. “Now what did you come out here to look for us for?”

“Um, oh yeah, to make sure you guys weren\'t killing each other, but seeing as it\'s quite the opposite, I think I\'ll just mosey on back into the house...” Takao said smirking, then a few paces away he remembered the other reason then turned to them saying, just loud enough for them to hear, “And we need to discuss you-know-what.” He walked away back into the house

Nodding both Hitoshi and Kai followed after him, neither really saying anything as they returned to the dojo. When they entered the tea was set up and everyone was sitting down enjoying it as well as some biscuits Rei had managed to find in the cupboards.

“Hey guys, you’re back! What took so long?” Asked Rei from where he was sitting with little Taka in his lap.

Takao nearly choked, but after a stern look from Kai and Hitoshi, he simply coughed and wandered over to the tea and took a sip, pretending he had bad cough.

“You okay bud?” Max asked.

“Yeah fine...” Takao said looking the two lovers, a secret smirk behind his cup, as he casually sipped.

Hitoshi shot him a dirty look from behind his cup. “Have any of you kids had any embarrassing childhood moments?” He said casually, a reminder of his threat to Takao.

“No, I was a very articulate, and well behaved child.” Said Kyouju as he took a sip of his tea, and then went back to typing on his laptop.

Takao eeped, “Um, no not really. Though you know me...”

“I once accidentally died all my teachers hair green.” Taka said absentmindedly.

“Whoa kiddo, that\'s awesome!” Max exclaimed.

Rei smiled down at him. “That’s quite an accomplishment. I wish my accomplishments were not so embarrassing. I remember when I was still a kid that I wanted to climb the tallest tree in the village and I got stuck. I was up there for twelve hours before they could get me down.

Takao snickered, and Max laughed.

“Poor Rei-san. I would have rescued you sooner.” Taka said looking up at Rei.

Sticking his tongue out at the two Rei turned back to Taka. “I’m sure you would have Taka, except you wouldn’t have existed at the time. It was over fourteen years ago.”

“No I\'d be...” Looking at everyone’s stares he blushed, “You\'re right, I wouldn\'t exist for another ten years...”

Shrugging thinking the kid was more than a little weird, in some cases; the group went back to their amiable chatting. It was nice to just be together like this.

Taka looked at all the bladers smiling faces, hell even Kai had one, and he felt warmth in his chest that he hadn\'t felt in a long time. “They\'re such good friends...” He thought to himself, “Wish I could have friends like this...”

“You look pensive kiddo.” Takao commented off handily.

“Oh...yeah, sorry.” Taka answered with a smile. “But I\'m a bit tired, think I\'ll go to bed...” he stretched and wandered into Rei\'s room where he had slept the night before.
