Chapter 3
Chapter 3:
The sun slowly began to rise over the city, causing the amber rays to dance on the blonde alchemist's face. With a disgruntled moan, golden eyes opened. He was so comfortable in the arms of the general, he didn't want to move, but today was an important day…
He sat up and smiled as he looked down to his sleeping general. A soft kiss was placed on his lips before Edward stood, grabbed his t-shirt and returned to his bedroom. He grabbed a clean pair of boxers before retreating into his bathroom.
He showered and brushed his teeth, then brushed out his long blonde hair, leaving it down so it would dry. Dark blue boxers were slipped over his narrow hips and his pajama bottoms were slipped on once more before padding down the hallway.
The thermostat was turned on while on his way into the kitchen. Edward washed his hands and began making breakfast for the two people who meant so much to him.
Using his mother’s recipe, he made her famous vanilla pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash browns. The teakettle was set on the stove and a smile graced his lips, knowing that the two men would be soon venturing down the hallway.

Dark eyes slowly opened, a wonderful smell having woken him up from his sleep. A smile crept on his lips seeing that Edward had already gotten up before he did, making the general assume that it was him who was cooking. Letting out a yawn, he pushed himself into a sitting position before slipping out of his bed. He ran a hand through his slightly disheveled hair before walking out of his room.
"Morning Al," he murmured out to the younger man who was slipping out of his own room. "I'm guessing your nose woke you up too." Al only nodded, sleep still embedded in his walking form. Yawns were erupting from his mouth as both men walked down the hallway and into the kitchen.
Roy slumped into one of the chairs, letting out another yawn. "Sure do like to wake people up Shorty," he chuckled out with a grin, waiting for a reaction. Al had a worried look on his face, looking between the general and his brother waiting for a reaction as well.
A small smile graced his lips as the piled pancakes on the last plate before freezing when he heard the general's words. He dropped the butter knife he had been holding and slowly turned, his eyes heavily shadowed.
"DID YOU JUST CALL ME SO SHORT I NEED A LADDER TO SEE WHATS ON THE COUNTER?!" He fumed and without looking, grabbed blindly behind him.
An evil smile graced his lips though his eyes held a bit of something extra as he launched his arm forward. A splat was heard in the room as half a stick of soft butter smashed against the raven-haired man's forehead.
A snort escaped his lips followed by his laughter as the butter slowly slid down his forehead.
Roy blinked a few times, letting the butter slide down his face then plop onto the table. Slowly he brought his hand up to his face, wiping away the residue. Then he quickly clambered over the table and tackled Edward to the ground, rubbing his fingers over the blonde man's face. "Mmmm butter!" he chuckled out, a huge grin upon his face.
Sending Ed a wink, he stood back up and quickly grabbed the half stick of butter then threw at Al's forehead. Al sat there much like Roy before a small pout formed on his lips. "What did I do?!" he whimpered out, wiping the butter off.
"Your just an innocent bystander," he chuckled out. A hand was outstretched to Ed, that grin still bright on the general's face.
Ed laughed at his brother wiping the butter off his own face. Al smiled and shook his head, walking over to the table and grabbing a napkin. While his back was turned, Ed stole a quick kiss, and with a smirk, pinched the generals pert rear, earning a yelp from him.
He grabbed Roy and flipped him over, grinning like a maniac.
"Brother, it would be best not to hurt the General." Alphonse said with a chuckle.
"I'm no longer a state alchemist Al, no repercussions." He said, flicking a bit of butter off Roy's forehead before standing. He pulled the man to his feet and with the other two men's help, brought the plates, teakettle and syrup to the table.
"Enjoy." Ed mumbled as he took a sip of his tea. They made conversation while eating breakfast, simply enjoying each other's company.
"So General," Al started. "Do you have any plans for today?"
"I'm just going to stay home. Valentine's Day was never really my thing," he lied, not wanting to give his plans away. Truthfully, Roy was planning to clean up the apartment and make dinner for Edward and himself. The general knew that Valentine's Day was never good for him so he wanted this one to be different. He wanted the blonde to at least have one good Valentine's Day.
The general wolfed down his last pancake before slumping back in his chair, sipping at his tea. "Do you have anything special planned Al for later tonight?" he questioned with a grin. Roy was happy that Al had found a nice girl to spend time with.
The younger of the two brothers blushed furiously and chuckled nervously. "Uh, yeah…I'm taking Keika out to dinner tonight…Oh, and I'm going to give her flowers and this."
Al reached into the bag he had and removed a black case. He opened it to reveal a beautiful necklace made of white gold with a Teardrop shaped sapphire pendant.
"Wow Al, she'll love that!" Ed said, smiling at his little brother.
"You think so? I'm really nervous about giving it to her." He said meekly.
"Of course Al! The flowers will just be icing on the cake."
Ed was proud of his little brother. He had grown up to be very responsible young man and cared deeply about others…especially children. That's why he applied for the job at the Sanctuary.
The sanctuary housed orphaned children and provided them with the schooling they needed. It housed a animal rehabilitation center, of which he was one of the main caregivers for the animals, and supervised the older children who wished to work with them. It's also where he met Keika.

They continued to talk and relax for a couple hours until it was finally time for Edward and Al to head to their mother's memorial. The blonde alchemist stood in front of the mirror in his bathroom fixing the collar of his shirt and straightening his black slacks. His hair was braided neatly, though a few wheat colored strands managed to escape. As he slipped on his new boots, a knock drew his attention to the door.
"Come in." He said and watched as the general entered the room, and closed the door behind him.
"Hey, well be leaving soon…we gotta stop by the florist and then we'll be on our way. I should be back around 5 or 6. Al says there are some things that he needs my help repairing at the sanctuary.
Roy nodded, leaning against the door with a genuine smile on his face. Dark eyes looked the blonde up and down, his smile widening on how good Ed looked. Pushing off the door, he came up behind the smaller man and wrapped his arms around him tightly. A tender kiss was placed on the blonde's cheek, head resting upon his shoulder.
"Give a flower to your mother for me," he whispered out faintly, "I know I never met her but I want to pay my respects to her. I also want to thank her for raising such a handsome man such as yourself." Arms tightened as he finished, chuckling softly at seeing the faint blush that colored Ed's cheeks.
He tried to fight back the blush but gave up when he realized it was useless, instead, he leaned back into the general's embrace. His heart was thudding in his chest for more reasons than one. It warmed his heart greatly to be in his arms like this.
"I'll make sure I do just that. I think…she would have liked you. She was a wonderful mother and woman…" He said quietly and turned in his arms.
He stood on his toes a bit and kissed the dark haired man's lips gently. "We better get going…I'll see you later on Roy." He said quietly and opened the bedroom door. He went down the hallway to the guest room and knocked on the door. "Ready to go Al?"
Roy chuckled to himself and watched as the blonde disappeared down the hallway. A broad smile was gracing his lips, thinking of what he was going to do for the alchemist for the day. 'Enjoy your day Edward,' he thought to himself, staying in the bathroom for the time being.
"Yeah, I'm ready brother." The door was opened and Al smiled down to his older brother. Al was wearing the matching outfit that Ed was dressed in except his hair was not braided since it was much shorter than his brothers. The bag he had brought was slung over his shoulder, knowing he wouldn't be returning to the apartment.
"Have a nice day Roy," he said to the older man whom was stationed in the doorway of Ed's room, giving him a wave.
"You too, guys." Roy replied, returning the wave with a curt move of his hand. Dark eyes watched as the two disappeared and heard the door shut behind them. Taking in a deep breath, he began to clean up the apartment to get it ready for the night.
