Chapter three;
Wufei
slammed the door shut behind him.
He
couldn’t believe his own eyes, let alone
his own memory right now. It couldn’t possible have been the tall Latin boy who
had held out his book just seconds ago!
It couldn’t
have been....
He clutched
the thin black book close to his chest as he slide down to the floor, his back
still against the door.
The boy had
promised to never, ever... Trowa had promised him that he was never going to
think about that book ever again as long as Wufei answered truthfully about
what he scribbled down in it.
And neither
he, nor Yuy had asked him anything in a very long time now.
They had sworn...
He felt
tears sting in the corner of his eyes.
But he
didn’t cry.
He
couldn’t.
Not over
something as stupid as this.
Something
as stupid as reading somebody else’s diary...
Only onnas
cried over something like that...
...Only
onnas was stupid enough to keep diaries....
Damn..
Great!
Now he
really felt better.
If it was
possible he had sunk ever lower down on the floor, but he had to settle for
pulling his legs up against his chest.
Don’t cry. Don’t you dare cry over this Chang!
But he
couldn’t hold the salty tears back forever. One by one they slipped from his
eyes, leaving stripes down his cheeks.
He didn’t
move for a very long time.
If Trowa
had been able to steal it right from under his eyes, literally too, then how
could he be sure that this hadn’t happened before? What if he had shared it
with the others? Had he read to them aloud when he wasn’t there to accidentally
overhear?
Would they
understand the hidden meaning behind his words?
...
... Of
course they would, they aren’t that blind.
Or
stupid....
He sobbed.
Why was his
ancestors tormenting him like this?!
The others
were surely laughing right now, over how stupid their fifth pilot was. They had
after all managed to sneak into his room and take it without him even stirring!
What if it had been the enemy sneaking around instead?!
Anger rose
inside of him at that thought.
If that had
been the enemy they could all be dead now!
Dead!
And then
the war would be lost. Khurshrenada would have won and the universe would turn
into his playground and all its people his slaves.
What a fine
warrior he turned out to be. Wasn’t it just yesterday when he had let the
braided baka sneak up to him? And then Trowa had been able to get into his
locked room without any trouble!
How could
he have done that?!
He growled
and threw the thin book against the opposite wall, wishing that it would break
at the impact. Wishing that it would disappear into nothingness.
It
didn’t...
It
‘thudded’ against the wall and landed with a ‘flopp’ on the floor, pages
flipping open.
He breathed
deeply through his nose for a few seconds before he crawled over to the small
book.
The blazing colors are rushing to met me, they
surround me in a moment of hesitation, a moment of thought.
I blink at them. They are as beautiful as any
dawn, but they are not.
A hand reached out for me from somewhere.
A hand fumbling after me.
Begging me to grab him.
To follow.
But the had retrieved before I even had the
chance to look up.
His hand never lingered. Never.
No one’s did.
And if they did linger, it was forced.
Why is it always the smallest gesture that
hurts the most?
A tear that
landed on the half empty page drew him back.
He blinked.
Yes, they
would understand. They would understand it all too well...
He grabbed
the book, not even thinking before he ripped page after page out of it until he
had no strength left in his wrists.
How could
he ever look them in their eyes again?
Oh, how low
they must think of him now.
To Be
