Kakarot stared at Vegeta’s back with an uncomfortable air about him as they traveled on into the night. He didn’t want to walk beside Him. He feared that it would just become more awkward and decided to follow behind Him. It was so odd. Everything just felt odd. Kakarot didn’t believe that he was there right now; going through the dark fields in the middle of the night as he followed the questionable man in front of him. Should he trust this man? Is He good or bad? Did He really have powers of fire or did He have spark rocks in His sleeve? However, he dislodged that idea in his head since He would’ve needed to strike the rocks together in order to make a spark. What other powers did this man have that He spoke of? Should he fear Him? Is this a good or bad thing that he’s with Him? For a brief moment, Kakarot thought about running away, but decided that would be futile. He would probably go after him. Who knew what other powers this man possessed?
Vegeta came to a stop and waited as Kakarot did so as well. He pointed ahead at the dull glow of lanterns. “We made it. There’s the village.”
Kakarot stared ahead and noted how much bigger the village was compared to the one he grew up in. Vegeta didn’t wait for a response as He continued onward and Kakarot followed. When they reached the edge of it, Vegeta stopped again and Kakarot did the same. This time, Vegeta turned to him and had a serious look on His face. “Listen carefully, I want you to stay close to me whenever we enter civilization. You may never know what danger lies in wait, so don’t wander off and stay with me.”
Kakarot swallowed loudly and nodded. He immediately shadowed behind Him when they entered the community and looked around him. Despite it being the middle of the night, people were still up and about. Not only were there houses and the simple market, there were also other businesses; businesses that Kakarot’s never seen before. They were going by an interesting place where all the men seem to be going to and there were women in the front, except behind wooden bars. Kakarot took a step closer to Vegeta and timidly tugged on His sleeve. Vegeta paused and looked down at Kakarot. “What is it?”
Kakarot pointed at the place he was curious about. “What kind of place is that?”
Vegeta looked in the direction he was pointing and narrowed His eyes at the place His fated one was curious about. “You’re too young to know about places like that.” He was about to continue onward, but Kakarot took a hold of His hand and stopped Him. Kakarot had a stern and determined expression on his face. The man may keep things about Himself a secret, but He wasn’t about to keep everything else around him a secret as well.
“Please tell me. I want to know.” Kakarot said in a polite tone, despite his expression.
Vegeta sighed at the boy as His features softened a bit, then turned towards the place. “It’s a whore house. Where men go to pay and satisfy themselves of their loneliness and desires.”
Kakarot’s eyes widened. He didn’t know there was ever such a place in this world. Especially so nearby. He took a hold of Vegeta’s arm with his other hand as he worried about the women in such a place. “What about the women? Surely they wouldn’t like doing such a thing with a stranger. Why be in a place like that anyway?”
Vegeta stared at the boy, who was staring at the whore house. “I’m sure they don’t either, but they don’t really have a choice when it comes to that kind of business.” Kakarot turned to Him in shock, but couldn’t say anything as He continued. “Some of the women there can be without homes and don’t have anywhere else to go. Others might need some quick money to pay for their loved ones or themselves, but the most common are the ones who are sold to the buyers that own the place if they can’t pay off a debt and sell their bodies to do so.”
Kakarot’s grip tightened on Vegeta’s arm when he heard the last one. “How awful! Surely there’s something that can be done!” He exclaimed as he seemed hopeful in his own words.
Vegeta didn’t flinch from the grip on Him, instead, He smiled softly and lifted a hand to the boy’s face and placed it gently on his cheek. “Perhaps now I see why the Gods have chosen you. You appear to be pure and innocent; always seeming to want to help others. Even as I watched you over the years, you never got your revenge on those who bullied you, but instead took pity on them.” Kakarot blushed at the man’s words and the hot touch; practically forgetting what he himself just said a moment ago. Then, Vegeta’s smile turned into a frown as He pulled His hand away. Kakarot almost moaned at the loss of the comfortable and warm touch. For some reason, he had a feeling that that’s happened before. “Sadly, there’s no way to help them. Even if there was a way, it would take too long to solve and time is something we cannot sacrifice right now.” Kakarot seemed disappointed as he lowered his head and released his grip on the others’ arm. Just when he was about to let go of His hand, Vegeta gripped it tighter in His. “Now, let’s get some sleep before dawn. We have a lot of ground to cover tomorrow. The place we need to go is quite a ways from here, so we need plenty of rest.”
Kakarot only nodded as Vegeta led him to an inn just down the road. When they got there, Kakarot was mildly surprised that the man knew where it was and didn’t seem to get lost. Has He been there before? Perhaps He has. After all, the man could’ve traveled the world while he was stuck in that tiny village. When they went to get a room, Kakarot was shocked to hear Vegeta say one room, but calmed when He said with two beds. It was on the third floor, so they had a nice view of the large village. Vegeta got Himself settled as Kakarot looked out the window. He couldn’t help but look over in the general direction where they passed by the whore house and was suddenly curious about something else. “Vegeta, are there any whore houses where there’s only men?” Vegeta suddenly dropped His things that He was carrying and stumbled over them, but caught Himself on the bed frame. He coughed and blushed at the question as Kakarot turned to see what happened. “Was it something I said?” He asked as he leaned against the window sill.
When Vegeta recovered, He crossed His arms and faced the boy. “It was just something I wasn’t expecting you to ask. Yes there are men whore houses, but there’s not as many as the ones with women. They’re actually more common in this country than anywhere else. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t want you to wonder. You could easily get kidnapped and forced into one of them.”
“Oh.” Kakarot seemed to understand the logic behind that, but now he was curious about something else. “What are the other reasons?”
Vegeta raised an eyebrow. “Reasons for what?”
“Why don’t You want me to wonder?” Kakarot tilted his head a bit as Vegeta thought of an answer.
“Well, crime mostly. Someone might come up to you and steal what you have then kill you. Others might want you to buy something useless that’ll cost you everything you have. Be aware of things like that and you’ll survive longer.” Vegeta bent down to pick up His things after the short explanation.
Kakarot nodded as he watched the other. “Oh, I see.” As he was watching Him, he couldn’t help but notice how powerful looking His arms and legs were.
When Vegeta finished picking up His supplies, He turned to the other. “Now, get some sleep. We have a long road ahead of us.”
Kakarot snapped out of his reverie and stood up. “Uh, right.” He then quickly shed some of his clothing and hopped into his own bed.
Vegeta smiled lightly at the display then finished getting his things together.

The next morning, Vegeta found out the hard way that Kakarot was a heavy sleeper as He tried to wake him. “Kakarot, wake up. Our destination is a long ways yet and we need to get there in the next two days.” All He got in reply was a soft snore. He was getting the feeling that this was a lost cause. He’s been at this for at least five minutes now and the boy refused to wake up. Deciding to try a different tactic, Vegeta placed a hand in those untamed locks and moved it lower towards the others’ smooth cheek. However, He got a different reaction than He hoped as Kakarot nuzzled into the warm hand and decided to snuggle with it. Vegeta had to kneel on the floor as Kakarot took the rest of His arm with it and held on. Vegeta groaned at the situation and tried to think of a way out of it.
However, His thoughts were interrupted when Kakarot started talking in his sleep. “Vegeta.” The other whispered as Vegeta stared at him in awe. What was the boy dreaming about? Suddenly, the topic seemed to change as Kakarot groaned out his next sentence. “I can’t eat anymore.”
Vegeta almost face planted onto the floor at the unexpected phrase. “Kakarot! Wake up!” He tried taking His arm back as Kakarot stretched, then let go of Him.
The boy blinked his eyes open and looked up at the one standing over him. “Oh, morning, Vegeta.”
Vegeta had an exasperated look on His face. “Tell me. What is the best way to wake you up?”
Kakarot thought about it for a moment. “Well, grandpa used to drag me out of bed.” He suddenly had a confused look on his face, then it clicked. “Oh, were You having a hard time waking me up?” He smiled and sat up. “Sorry. I’m kind of hard to wake up. Perhaps I should’ve told You that last night.” He chuckled nervously as he rubbed the back of his head.
Vegeta looked at him with understanding. “It’s alright. I’ll just drag you out of bed next time. Now, get dressed. We have much ground to cover today.” With that He went to His side of the room and got His things together.
Kakarot watched Him as he still sat in bed. “Vegeta, You never told me where we were going. Do You have to keep that a secret too?”
Vegeta sighed. “Around the east, southeast area of the continent.”
It took a moment before Kakarot pieced it together. “But…that’s where the war is taking place! You don’t mean for us to go over there?! Isn’t there anywhere else that’s safer that we can go to?” He tried to change the others’ mind.
Vegeta turned to face him. “That’s where I’m needed. You will stay in the safest village down there while I take care of some business.” He turned back to finish packing.
That’s when Kakarot got out of bed. “What?! Just what kind of business do You have in a war? You don’t mean to fight in it, do You?” Getting no response, he went over and took Vegeta’s arm in an attempt to stop Him from packing. “Tell me You didn’t come for me just so You can leave me again! I don’t know this place well. I’ve never even left my own village. Don’t abandon me in some strange village without me ever knowing if You’ll come back safely or not.” Kakarot pleaded with Him as he waited for a response.
Vegeta turned and smirked at His fated one. “Why, Kakarot. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were worried about me.” Kakarot looked as if he’d been caught and blushed then looked away. Vegeta’s smirk turned more soft as He gently took a hold of the others’ chin to make him look His way again and leaned in a bit closer to whisper softly to him in comfort. “Don’t worry about me. I don’t die easily, so don’t expect me to go anywhere. I’ll always be with you.” Kakarot was caught in some sort of trance. He’s never heard the man be so gentle with him, it was…unexpected. For a moment, he was beginning to wonder if he imagined it when Vegeta let him go and that beautiful smile left that handsome face. “Now, get dressed and packed. We’re wasting daylight.” Kakarot just nodded numbly before doing what he was told without another thought.

Kakarot was thankful when they finally reached the village that they would spend the night in for the evening. His legs screamed for rest as he slowly trudged behind Vegeta, who didn’t seem to be showing any signs of fatigue or aches and pains. Just what was He? The man wasn’t even panting in exertion from walking through the rain and cold weather through the terrain that became more challenging as they progressed towards the east. They’ll be crossing through mountains soon. He could see them from where they were. Kakarot couldn’t even imagine what it’ll be like crossing through them, let alone keeping up with Vegeta’s pace. Just when Kakarot was eyeing some inns they were passing by, he noticed that Vegeta was continuing through town and proceeding to leave it. At this point, Kakarot couldn’t help but voice his complaints. “Vegeta! It’s almost dark! Can’t we rest here for the night?” He called after Him as he collapsed on the ground to regain his strength.
As if breaking from some sort of trance, Vegeta immediately stopped and turned towards Kakarot. When He saw him kneeling on the ground, He rushed towards him. “Kakarot, are you alright? We can stop here for the night if you wish. I hadn’t realized how far we’ve gone.”
Kakarot looked up at Him as if he were told the world was ending. “Are You serious? We’ve been walking all day without rest or food! If I had to guess, I’d say You’d be able to continue to the next village with ease!”
Vegeta seemed shocked at the news. “We didn’t stop?” He asked more to Himself as He continued in a panic. “Kakarot I’m so sorry! You must be starving and exhausted! We’ll find an inn and I’ll get you something to eat.” He picked up the other bridle style as He hurriedly made His way to an inn close by.
Kakarot was surprised at the unexpected reaction from the other as he was picked up. Such odd behavior. Could this man really go without food and water for so many days and not even feel any fatigue? Why was He confused on how far they’ve traveled? Now that he thought about it, the man never said a word all day. It was almost as if He had something on His mind, but what was it that would cause Him to space out and lose track of time?
When they checked into an inn, Vegeta gently laid Kakarot on a bed and immediately went out to get food for him. Kakarot was a bit irked at the other suddenly disappearing, but decided to get cleaned up and put on some different clothes. He discarded his muddy and wet garments then went to bathe in the inn’s tub and waited for Vegeta to return. As soon as he finished, Vegeta returned with many different types of foods that Kakarot didn’t even know was edible, but was willing to try anything at this point since his stomach felt like it was trying to eat itself. Vegeta watched his fated one eat with worry etched into His features. How could He be so careless? He needed to pay more attention to the others’ needs if He was going to protect him.
As soon as Kakarot finished, he exclaimed how great the food was and patted his belly. “Wow! That was amazing! I didn’t know food could taste that good!” He smiled as he looked at the other, who hesitantly returned the smile.
“So, do you forgive me?” Vegeta asked as He waited for a response.
Kakarot seemed confused for a moment. “For what?”
Vegeta seemed disappointed. “For letting you starve. I forget how fragile a human’s body could be.” He leaned over and placed a hand on the others’ cheek and His features softened. “Next time, tell me if you need to stop and rest and I’ll oblige. There’s no need for you to die while on this trek for myself. You’re important to me Kakarot. You’re part of the reason why I’m here.”
Kakarot blushed at the touch and the words and nodded numbly. “O…okay.” However, he gulped and shook off the heat in his face and placed a hand on Vegeta’s. “But, what’s bothering You so that would make You lose the track of time?”
Vegeta’s features saddened as He looked away and pulled His hand back. “I just…have a lot on my mind. That’s all.” He went to stand, but was stopped by a shy hand grabbing His.
“Please tell me.” Kakarot asked gently as his eyes pleaded with the other to no longer keep any secrets from him.
Vegeta sighed and sat back down next to Kakarot on the floor. “I’ve just been thinking about this war and about you. It’s been awhile since I’ve done this.” He chuckled. “After doing this so many times, you’d think I’d know what I was doing by now.”
Kakarot wasn’t following Him. “What do You mean?”
Vegeta looked at him with uncertainty then suddenly looked very tired. “I’ve done this before, Kakarot, many times. Every so many years, I must find someone that’s fated for me.” He chuckled again, except it didn’t last as long and didn’t seem as humorous. “To think that this is my fifth time with a man and yet I still feel like a fool that doesn’t know what to do.”
Kakarot’s eyes widened a bit. “Wait. You’ve been with a man before? So, I’m not You’re first one?” Vegeta only nodded as Kakarot soaked in the information. “How many times have You been with a woman?” The question had to be asked.
Vegeta shook His head. “I’ve lost count. A lot. I’ve been with many, many women, but not very many men. Still, I’ve had my fair share with them, so I should know what I’m doing. Right?” He looked to the other as if he’d have the answer.
Kakarot only gave Him an unsure look and shrugged. “How do You usually start off these…relationships?”
He thought for a moment. “Well, I usually start off like we are now. I spend time with them and travel with them.”
“Have You ever stayed with them before?” A thought occurred to Kakarot when he asked the question.
Vegeta looked at Him as His eyes darted to the side, like He just said the answer. “Yes. I spent time with them.”
Kakarot rolled his eyes a bit. “No. I mean, did You ever live with them? In one place?”
Vegeta thought about it for a moment, but was actually surprised that He was stumped at the question. “No…actually. I always made them travel with me. I could never stay in one place. I always had somewhere to be.”
“And where would that be?” Kakarot felt like he was getting somewhere.
The other thought about it for a moment. “A war. There was always a war going on.”
Kakarot held his breath as he asked his next question. “And why…did You always have to be at war?”
Vegeta didn’t look at him and didn’t hesitate in His answer. “I can’t tell you. Not yet.”
Kakarot felt like he wanted to throw a tantrum or cry or…something. He was getting so sick of this. It was all frustrating him so much. “When can You tell me?” He asked calmly but hopelessly.
Vegeta looked at him then with a blank stare. “When we arrive there.” He stood then. “Now, get some rest. You must be tired from walking all day nonstop. Tomorrow I shall rent a couple horses and you can save your energy.” With that, He got around for the evening.
Kakarot sighed in his place on the floor. He felt like he wasn’t going to get anywhere with this man unless he went along with His rules. He stood as well and did what the other said, but he had troubles falling asleep as he mulled over the conversation that just took place. How long has that man been around? Could He truly be immortal? Has He been around for centuries? Eons? Just what was He? Kakarot knew these questions would drive him insane unless he got them answered. It would probably be best to regain some patience and not think about them and wait for the time when they will be answered.
