Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Three
It had been about a month since you met Goku. And while you didn't see him every day, it felt like you saw him more than your own parents. In fact, he'd been over to your house and your parents had still yet to meet him. The nice thing about Goku though was the fact that he didn't seem to notice that a lack of parental supervision was an odd thing. The only strange thing about the man was his ability to put away so much food. Usually when he was over you just made sure to make a lot of noodles or rice to help fill him up. That was the cheapest way to keep the big galoot happy. And a happy Goku was nice to have around.
"Feet off the table Goku. You want to kick them up, go lay down," you reminded him as you picked up the dishes from dinner.
There really wasn't any food left on them, not even sauce from the noodles. Which meant that you didn't need to scrub them or anything. Still you really weren't in the mood to do any cleaning after such an endeavor as cooking for Goku had been.
"Hmm okay. Will you put a movie on? I don't know any good ones. The ones Master Roshi used to watch are a lot different than the ones you pick. And I like yours more," Goku explained as he got up from the table.
You made a sound of agreement as you nodded. It took you a few minutes to pick out One but you did. You hoped that he liked what you picked. It was a bit old but it was a martial arts movie. Granted you knew from watching him work that Goku was extremely talented in that field so the film might seem cheesey. But hey, nothing ventured nothing gained.
You put the movie on as you picked up some homework. Goku didn't seem to mind too much as he was fascinated with the "moving pictures" still. He might have said that Master Roshi used to put on movies but you were under the impression that he didn't get to watch them. Maybe he was kept too busy training or maybe they just weren't suitable for children. You weren't going to pry (yet).
Other than the first day you didn't ask him too many personal questions about his life and his past. You were still reeling from all of the information he'd already given you. Plus he kept telling you more and more as the days went on. The information was just packed into his questions when he went to explain them. And there were many questions with a lot to take in. You envied him. He had done and seen so much in his life whereas till recently you'd spent most of yours in school. Which you were now certain was a waste of your time.
Even though he was fascinated with the movie, Goku couldn't sit still for too long. When you noticed him fidgeting you scooted the coffee table out of the way. By now that was your unspoken invitation to do situps or push ups so he could burn off some of his energy. One thing you noticed about Goku was the fact that he always seemed to have energy to burn. And he always wanted to be doing some type of training. You really didn't mind. Not that you ever joined him on his insane amount of working out but you didn't mind when he did.
You did your best to keep your mind to your homework as he switched between all of the floor based exercises that he knew. Which included one hand push ups with his feet towards your ceiling. Man that guy was strong. Your concentration wasn't perfect. You were only human after all. But you tried not to ogle your friend. That seemed wrong somehow. He was pretty, sure, but he didn't deserve to be ogled without consent. Even though he had a tendency to strip his top two layers when he worked up a sweat that still wasn't permission. You wouldn't appreciate people staring at you if you stripped down to a tank top of Something if you got hot, it was only courtesy not to stare at him when he went to regulate body temperature. And you knew that's all it was by now. After knowing him for a month even you understood that. He wasn't actually doing it for attention so much as comfort. Still...you were only human and he had a really pretty torso.
You stared hard at your last question before giving up for a moment. Goku had started on a side exercise which was like a one handed push up while facing you. It was hard to not see all of the rippling muscles in your peripheral view. So instead you got up to get some water and to take some vitamins while you were up. You brought some back for mister muscle man while you were at it. It wasn't like you could say that you cooked the most balanced of meals for him and he didn't seem the kind to pig out on salads and vegetables when he was alone either.
"Thanks," Goku said with a grin.
He stopped for a moment to drink the water. You averted your eyes from his heated wingspan towards the worksheet you were trying to answer. Goku looked at the odd gummies that you put down for him before deciding to just eat them. They actually tasted pretty good. Almost like candy.
"Hey, what were those?"
"Vitamin gummies," you answered easily. You already knew that if he was asking he probably had no idea what they did or what they were for. "They help our bodies stay healthy and be strong. People take them when the food they eat might not have enough or have all the vitamins that we're supposed to have. Or if they need more. Like when they're working out and training like you."
"Oh, okay...what are vitamins?"
It wasn't that Goku was stupid. You knew that much. He absorbed everything you told him like a sponge. It was just that he didn't seem to have a formal education. So you took a moment to try to explain it. Especially since it was a concept that you only understood on a surface level.
"They're...okay so you know how you get more energy when you eat food? Vitamines are a part of that. There are different vitamines in different foods. Like...protein in meat. That helps our muscles. Vitamins C is in a lot of fruits like oranges and strawberries. That helps us with sickness. There are a lot of them; more than I know about. But basically if you don't get enough of them you aren't at your best."
He nodded. You smiled; that wasn't too bad. Maybe if you had the time you could have been a teacher or something. You wouldn't mind playing with and teaching a bunch of kids. Just as long as you could give them back at the end of the day.
"Hey, want to go do something? You're done with your homework right?"
Oh how easily he forgot about the movie. You pushed pause before sorting your paperwork. You were mostly done with your weekly homework. And you did still have a day to finish it up. So...
You stood up with a smile. "Sure. Let's go."

"Oh god, did you see their face? It was so funny!" You laughed as you pushed Goku playfully.
Goku had just beaten a challenge without breaking a sweat. Multiple challenges actually. The poor faire attendants were left baffled. You almost felt bad for them; all of their grand prizes had been won by a single man. But it was their fault that they had all been cash prizes.
Unfortunately that also meant that you and Goku kept getting dirty looks from how easily he beat every other macho would've winners there.
"I feel kinda bad," Goku admitted.
"Why?" You asked in a bit of confusion.
"Well I don't think people there had as much training as I did."
You stopped in front of him, looking up at him with a sudden seriousness. You had fun at the midsummer night faire but it seemed like Goku was having doubts.
"You worked for all of those skills, Goku. You don't need to feel that bad. Everyone there could have worked for it like you have, but they probably haven't. It's good that you can work hard. It's good that you're dedicated. I think it's pretty awesome. I can't imagine doing half of the things you do out of habit everyday. And yeah, you're freakishly strong but I mean...so what? You work for that too right? If you didn't please tell me where you got all of those muscles cause I wanna go there and buy some for myself."
The sad look on his face shifted to a lighter one as you talked. Good. You smiled as he laughed at your ending joke, knowing that you brightened the mood. That made you feel good about yourself.
"As long as you aren't hurting people who don't deserve it, never be sorry for who you are, what you want, and what you can do. Life's too short not to go after what you want."
That was a sentiment you'd learned too late. But it was one you were fully embracing now.
"Should I take you home now? You like to be home when it's dark right?"
You nodded. "As long as we get to fly. You good with that?"
Goku's response was simple to laugh, smile, and call his special cloud. One of these days you have to figure out how he subjected a magical cloud. Sure you heard the story but just...wow.
