What
will they make of all of this?
-----------------------------------------------------
“It
was so hard trying to listen with Kai right there.” Ray shuddered, scratching
Chung Hu under the chin. “I swear, Tyson was ready to kill him, and if Tyson
hadn’t then Kevin and Lee would. The White Tigers had a very good eye on
him.”
“Same
can be said for Spence and Ian.” Bryan leant back in his seat, crossing his
arms over his chest. “Had Tala even looked at me wrong, he’d’ve been
flattened. It was annoying.”
Ray
looked up. “Annoying?”
“Yeah.
If anyone’s gonna flatten Tal, it’s gonna be me.”
Ray
chuckled and nodded before frowning and looking to the side. “Lee said
something rather interesting yesterday. Mariah asked him when he was going to
get involved with someone, and he answered that maybe he already was. Involved
with someone, I mean. Do you think maybe…”
Bryan
raised an eyebrow. “Maybe what?”
“Well,
it’s like this.” Ray scratched the back of his neck, frowning further.
“Lee spends a lot of time around here, and it’s interesting that Spencer
invited him to come help him and Ian redo this place when Spencer could have
asked you.”
Bryan
blinked. “So you’re thinking maybe Lee and Spencer?”
“Yeah.”
Ray shrugged. “It’s just a theory.”
“A
well justified one.” Bryan rubbed his jaw thoughtfully. “I say we ask
them.”
“You’re
not serious!”
“Dead
serious. Besides, consider it revenge for them two trying to hook us up.”
Ray
looked at him. “You’re getting that too?”
“From
both ends.” Bryan pushed himself up out of his seat. “Coming?”
“Right
behind you.”
Ray
followed Bryan out of his room and along the corridor, Bryan rapping a knuckle
against a door at the end. After a while they found there was no answer, Bryan
casting a gaze over his shoulder and raising an eyebrow. Ray shrugged.
“Maybe
they’re downstairs.”
“Mm.”
Bryan shot another look at the door. “Either that or…”
Ray
winced. “Not the kind of mental image I needed.”
Bryan
smirked, patted him on the shoulder as he moved back along the corridor toward
the staircase, Ray following as Chung Hu scurried after them. Sure enough they
found Spencer and Lee in the games room, Lee lining up his next shot at the pool
table.
Ray’s
gaze settled on Lee. “We’ve been talking.”
“Gods
forbid.” Lee straightened, looking toward him. “About what?”
“Well,
you guys have been trying to get Bryan and me together, and you seem to spend a
lot of time together, so we were wondering if…”
Lee
and Spencer waited, Bryan finally rolling his eyes.
“Look,
are you guys together?”
Lee
and Spencer exchanged a look, Ray feeling his face warm as he shot a glare at
Bryan, sometimes hating the Russian’s bluntness. Bryan felt his gaze and
looked up, knowing what he was thinking and shrugging it off before waiting for
the answer.
Lee
frowned, looking toward them. “What gives you that idea?”
“What
you said yesterday.” Ray shifted, feeling Spencer’s gaze on him and not sure
whether it was a bad thing or not. “You said you might be in a relationship,
and I got thinking and realised you’ve been spending a lot of time here
and…” Ray bit his lip. “I talked to Kenny yesterday and he said sometimes
you spent the night.”
Bryan
shot a look at Ray. “You didn’t tell me that.”
“You
didn’t give me the chance.” Ray returned the glare before looking up as
Spencer chuckled.
“You
sound like you’re married.” Spencer smiled, then nodded. “We are.”
Bryan
raised an eyebrow. “What?”
“We’re
together.”
“You
are?” Ray looked toward Lee. “And just when were you planning on telling
me?”
Lee
shrugged it off. “I wasn’t.”
“What
do you mean you weren’t?”
“Ray.”
Bryan shot him a warning look. “Count to 10. You’re gonna explode in a
minute.”
“Can
you blame me!” Ray set his hands on his hips. “You’re my best friend, Lee.
I tell you everything. I at least expect you to-”
“Oh
shut up, Ray.” Lee glared at him as he set the pool cue down, leaning against
the table. “When you were with Tala and Kai I never even heard from you. The
only time you even spoke with me was during the meetings, and that was only when
you weren’t busy shoving your tongue down one of their throats or sneaking out
to the parking lot or who knows where. I couldn’t have told you even if I
wanted to.”
Ray
gritted his teeth. “Doesn’t take much to pick up the phone and call.”
“Like
you ever took time out from screwing them to answer the phone.” He jerked a
thumb at Bryan. “He’s the only one
who’d ever answer, and why would I talk to him?”
Bryan
raised an eyebrow as Ray’s face darkened. “How dare you speak like that
about Bryan! And I’ll have you know I did not spend every minute of every day
with them!”
“Well
it was almost every minute.”
“Would
you get off my back!”
Bryan
looked toward Spencer, eyebrows raised. “Cat fight.”
Spencer
smirked.
“I’m
not on your back!” Lee growled,
pupils slitted. “I’m not the one with the problem here Ray-”
“Seems
like it too me.” Ray’s fangs flashed in the light, his own pupils slitted.
“Makes me wonder what you say behind my back.”
“I
do not talk about you behind your back!”
“And
how do I know that!?”
“Ray…”
Bryan stepped closer, sliding an arm around his shoulders. “You really need to
cool down.”
“You
too, Lee.” Spencer tugged at Lee’s vest. “You’re edgy.”
Bryan
and Spencer exchanged a look as Bryan steered Ray toward the door, the two
neko-jin continuing to glare at each other. Bryan rolled his eyes, Spencer
smirking and tossing him a wink, receiving a fierce glare in return that caused
Spencer to chuckle.
“You’re
one live wire, Ray,” Bryan commented as he led him toward the staircase, Chung
Hu sitting at the top watching them. “You were shining blue murder back
there.”
“Lee…
frustrates me.” Ray growled. “How
could he not tell me?”
“Spencer
never told me. Ever stopped to think maybe they don’t want anyone to know?”
Ray
paused, frowning. “But… why?”
“We’re
Russian, Ray. The Demolition Boys. The enemy.” Bryan raised an eyebrow.
“You’re Chinese. The good guys.”
“I
see your point.” Ray frowned as Bryan reached forward and plucked the kitten
off the step, handing it to the neko-jin. “Maybe your right. Maybe I was a
little harsh.”
“Now
you’ve just gotta tell him that.”
“Yeah.”
Ray stared at the ground. “I will on the way home. And Bryan?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks.”
