“Has the ship stopped moving?” Bulma asked, sitting up in Nix’s bed.
“Feels like it...” Nix said. They both got up and quickly dressed. Bulma ran to the cockpit only to find that they ship was parked on a planet. “Nix...is Lyri on the ship?” she called out.
There was a pause and Nix yelled back, “No!”
Bulma joined Nix at the ships’ ramp. “Why would she land us here?” she asked.
“Don’t know. Stay close. This planet does not have the best reputation,” Nix told her.
Meanwhile...Lyri had walked off the ship and headed straight to the outside market area. She listened as people tried to sell their wares. She stopped in front a guy selling ship parts.
“Long shot, but, you got any actual ships?” Lyri asked. He shook his head. “Damn. Sorry for wasting your time.” She continued walking.
“Looking for a ship?” someone asked her, “I could give you a ride.”
Lyri spun around, fixing to chew the person out but stopped when she recognized the speaker. “Kakarot?”
“Hey!” Kakarot said with a smile.
“What are you doing here?” Lyri asked.
“I stopped to restock and refuel,” he told her.
“Oh. On a mission?” she asked.
“Yup,” Kakarot said, “You actually made it easier for me.”
“Huh?” Lyri asked, confused.
“I was to find you and Bulma and bring you home,” he told her.
“Is your ship ready to go?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he told her.
“Come on,” she said, heading back to the shipyard.
“Lyri, I have to bring Bulma back too,” Kakarot told her.
“I’m leaving this planet without them. You can stay with them or come with me,” Lyri replied.
“Them?” Kakarot asked.
Lyri didn’t say anything else as they continued walking. Kakarot pointed out his ship and she headed towards it. Kakarot hung back. He didn’t want to leave Bulma. He couldn’t.
“Kakarot?”
He turned and breathed a sigh of relief. “Bulma. Nix? Thought you were dead.”
Nix shrugged. “It’s a long story,” Bulma told him.
Kakarot nodded. He sensed that Nix didn’t want to get into it and let it go for now.
“What brings you out here?” Nix asked.
Kakarot explained how Vegeta sent him to go find Lyri and Bulma. “It was just dumb luck I found you guys here.”
“You can go. It makes more sense for you to just take Lyri,” Nix told him.
“You know I can’t!” Kakarot snapped.
“If Vegeta throws a fit, tell him I’m with her,” Nix told him.
Kakarot started to object again but Bulma spoke up. “We’re going with Kakarot. His ship is guaranteed to be faster than mine. I’m gonna go capsulize my ship. I’ll be right back.” The pair watched Bulma walk off. Kakarot smugly smirked at Nix.
Nix glared at Kakarot. “Knock it off. Lest you forget, I’m still your king.”
Kakarot frowned. “Yeah, whatever...”
Bulma walked back to them. She looked at both of them and rolled her eyes. “Stop looking so pissed at each other.”
“Fine,” Nix muttered.
“Where’s your ship?” Bulma asked.
Kakarot led them both back to his ship and the three of them boarded it. Kakarot closed the ramp and navigated them off the planet. He was entering the coordinates for Planet Vegeta in the autopilot when Lyri walked up behind him.
“The hells are they doing here?” she seethed.
Kakarot turned to look at her. “It was orders to bring both of you back. I have to follow orders.” Lyri growled. “What happened between you three?” Lyri didn’t answer the question. She turned and walked away, leaving Kakarot to wonder what had happened. He stood and went to find either Bulma or Nix to get their side of the story. He found them both in an unoccupied room with the door open. He knocked of the door frame. “Hey. Can I ask you two something?”
“Yeah. What’s up?” Bulma asked.
Kakarot walked into the room and closed the door. “What happened?”
“Nix and Lyri had an argument,” Bulma explained. Kakarot turned to Nix, waiting for his explanation.
“It’s none of your business,” Nix muttered.
“It became my business when Lyri was almost insistent on leaving both of you behind. You both know that she’s not the type of person to do that,” Kakarot said.
Nix grumbled. “Fine...” he said, “I told her she deserved better than Vegeta...and I kinda kissed her. She still loves him and I told her that I wouldn’t be there to help her if he hurt her again...”
“Are you fucking stupid?! You know she’s bonded to Vegeta, right?” Kakarot asked.
“I didn’t know. If I had, do you think I would have done that?” Nix asked, “I doubt she knows!” Kakarot shook his head. He didn’t have anything more to say and left.
Bulma had been silent. She walked to the door and told Nix, “I’m going stay in a separate room...”
“Can we talk later?” Nix asked.
“I don’t know,” Bulma told him.
“Bulma...I never meant to hurt you,” Nix said.
Bulma wiped her eyes. “Had I known, I never would have...you should have told me.”
“You’re right. I should have told you. I’m sorry I didn’t,” he said. She wiped her eyes again. Not knowing what to say and wanting to calm down, Bulma walked away.
It was the next day when Lyri walked into the galley, sweaty from a workout. She paused when she saw Bulma sitting at a table. She thought about leaving but instead, she sat across from the blue-haired scientist.
Bulma looked up. “I’m sorry,” she said immediately.
“I am too,” Lyri told her.
“I wouldn’t have-“ Bulma said before Lyri cut her off.
“You don’t need to explain,” Lyri told her, “I shouldn’t have gotten mad at you.” She sighed. “Nix is a dick.”
Bulma sighed. “I don’t think he is.” Lyri raised an eyebrow. “I just...You should talk to him about this.”
“No,” Lyri told her.
Bulma nodded. “Um...”
“Hmm?” Lyri asked.
“Lyri...it may look bad but...I really do like Nix...” Bulma said.
“And?” Lyri asked.
“I just don’t want you to get mad...” Bulma explained.
“I don’t like or want Nix,” Lyri said.
“So, it’s ok?” Bulma asked.
“You’re both adults,” Lyri said, “You don’t need my approval.”
“Thank you,” Bulma told her.
Lyri nodded. They talked for a bit before Lyri stood and went to shower and lay down. She was getting a slight headache. She stepped into her room and walked into her bathroom. She turned the water on and let the water warm up. She rubbed her temples, wishing she could will the pain away. She stepped into the shower and stood under water. She waited for the hot water to eased her headache and muscle pain, but the relief never came. She groaned and washed up before stepping back out. She flared her ki to dry off and walked back to her room. She dressed in a pair of black panties and a tank top, turned off her light and crawled into bed. It took a while but she eventually fell asleep. When she awoke the next day, Lyri groaned. Her head hurt worse than before and her muscle pain had escalated. She slowly pulled on some pants and walked to the galley. She sat at a table and laid her head down. Kakarot looked at her from his place near the fridge. He quickly left and went to find Bulma and Nix. He found Nix in his room.
“Hey. We need to talk,” he said.
“About what?” Nix asked.
“About how you owe me money,” Kakarot told him sarcastically.
“Ha. Ha,” Nix muttered.
“I think you were right. I don’t think she knows that she’s bonded to Vegeta,” Kakarot told him, “I think something is up...”
“And what do you want us to do about it?” Nix asked.
“I don’t know...” Kakarot said, “I mean, maybe nothing is wrong. Maybe it’s just Vegeta’s emotions really getting to her...”
“Vegeta has emotions?” Nix asked.
Kakarot rolled his eyes. “I know you and her aren’t speaking right now, but what the hells?”
“Yeah, you’re right. Maybe we should talk to Bulma and she if she’s noticed it as well,” Nix suggested. Kakarot agreed and they both went to find Bulma. “Hey,” Nix said when they found her.
“Hey...” she said.
“We need to ask you something,” Kakarot asked.
“What?” Bulma asked.
“Have you noticed that Lyri is kinda not herself?” Kakarot asked.
Bulma thought about it. “She said she had a headache last night. I’ve never known you guys to feel ill. And it seems like she’s been a bit depressed, but I thought it was because she was away from Vegeta.”
“Given the way she’s acting, she doesn’t know that their bonded. Does Vegeta know?” Nix asked.
“Yeah. He found out after Lyri died,” Kakarot told him.
“I don’t think we should tell her,” Nix told them.
“What?” Kakarot asked.
“Do you think she’d believe us if we told her? I’m not saying to just let her figure it by herself, but I don’t think we should be the ones to tell her,” Nix said, “But someone should talk to her.” He looked at Bulma. “You wanna come with me?”
“Ok,” she said. She walked off and Nix looked back at Kakarot.
“If you’re right and something is happening, we need to get home now...” Nix told him.
“The ship is going as fast as it can,” Kakarot said.
Nix thought for a minute. “Let me go asses the situation and we’ll go from there.” Kakarot nodded and they went their separate ways. Nix quickly caught up with Bulma. They walked quietly before she spoke up.
“Don’t lie to me again,” she told him.
“I won’t,” Nix said.
Her fingers brushed against his and he took her hand in his, giving it a small squeeze. He let her hand go when they got to the galley. Lyri was still sitting with her head on the table.
“Hey. You ok?” Bulma asked.
“Everything hurts,” Lyri said, sitting back up. She glared at Nix as he and Bulma sat down.
“I deserve that look,” Nix said, “It’s one of the reasons I’m here. I want to apologize for how I acted. I had no right to say the things I said and treat you how I did. I’m sorry.”
Lyri continued to glare at him. “You were an asshole.”
“Yeah. I was,” he agreed.
Lyri’s glare softened a bit. “Whatever...” she muttered, “Just know this won’t be forgotten.”
“I don’t expect it to be forgotten but I hope it can be forgiven,” Nix said.
“Maybe. With time,” Lyri told him.
Nix nodded. “Weird question, but can you describe how you’ve been feeling outside of your headache and other pains?”
Lyri looked at him, confused. “What do you mean?”
“Like, weird thoughts or feelings? Things you wouldn’t normally think? Stuff like that,” Nix said.
She bit her lip. “Um...I guess, I have this deep anger and hatred towards you and myself...”
“I understand the anger and hatred towards me,” Nix said.
Lyri shook her head. “I’ve had this since you appeared on Bulma’s ship. And the feelings towards myself started not longer after.”
“Any idea why?” Nix asked.
Lyri shook her head. “I’ve really no reason to hate you or myself.” Bulma exchanged a look with Nix. “What?”
“Nothing. So, um, I’ve never know you guys to have headaches or any pain outside of training. What’s up with that?” Bulma asked.
“Ok. What going on? You guys are acting fucking weird,” Lyri told them.
“Oh, come on, Lyri. Think. You’re not stupid. Why do you think you have these thoughts?” Bulma asked.
Lyri blinked. “I don’t know.”
Bulma sighed. “Ok. Who else hates Nix right now?”
“Vegeta?” Lyri asked. Bulma nodded. “If you’re implying what I think you’re implying, then you’re mistaken. Only mates form bonds.”
“We’re not implying anything. Just wanted to see how you’re feeling,” Nix told her.
“Like I told Bulma, everything hurts. It’s like someone beat the crap out of me...and then decided they weren’t done and kept going,” she told him.
“You should go get some rest,” Nix told her.
“I guess,” she said. She stood, stretched and left.
“Now what?” Bulma asked.
“I need to talk to Kakarot,” Nix said.
“Why?” Bulma asked, getting up to follow him.
“Because we need to get back home now,” Nix told her.
Meanwhile, Lyri sat on her bed. Everything hurt. Her head, her face, her body, her hands, her feet. She struggled to get a full breath of air. It was like she had gone through the fight of her life. She went over the conversation she had just had with Bulma and Nix. It was impossible...wasn’t it? Her and Vegeta weren’t bonded...were they? And yet...it made sense...kinda?
Lyri stood back up and walked out of her room. She wondered down to the cockpit, where the other three were talking amongst themselves. They stopped when she approached them. She looked at each of them.
“Stop talking about me as if I’m not here,” she said. She looked to her Saiyan comrades. “What are you two up to?”
“We’re going home,” Kakarot told her, “Now.”
“What? But Nix is...” Lyri started. She suddenly cried out and fell to the ground, trembling from the pain that radiated through her body.
“Alright that makes this easier,” Nix said, “Everyone hold on to me.” Kakarot picked Lyri up and placed a hand on Nix’s shoulder while Bulma grabbed his hand. Nix teleported them off the ship and they reappeared in a plain room. As soon as their feet hit the ground, Nix fell to his knees and vomited blood.
“There’s a regen tank down the hall,” Kakarot told him. He carefully set Lyri down, but kept an arm around her because she was still shaking. Nix nodded and slowly got up and left, Bulma following him to make sure he was ok.
“Who the fuck is that?” Lyri asked, sensing a huge power coming from the capital.
“Dunno,” Kakarot told her, “But I don’t think whoever it is, is very friendly...”
Lyri walked over to window and stared out at the palace in the distance. Ominous gray clouds rolled overhead, a sign that things were only going to get worse.
