Pull the Trigger and the Nightmare Stops…

“dear my friends in the time we've spent forever after beyond this when will our nightmare ever end?
pull the trigger and the nightmare stops...”

Part 32

Heero awoke early the next morning and lay quietly for a few minutes, snuggling up to the warm back of his still snoring lover. The peaceful feeling was enough to make Heero almost want to fall back asleep. Almost, but not quite. He knew they still had some distance to cover before reaching their final destination and the sooner they started, the quicker he could get Duo settled in their new home. Heero was hoping for someplace a bit remote, but not to far from civilization so as to make life boring. The last thing he needed was a bored Duo to cope with while he recuperated.

Simon had simply told him that the house was one of the Winner’s retreats that was currently not being used and that the couple was more then welcome to use it until Heero decided that it was time to bring their songbird out of his cage once more.

His resolve made, Heero shifted his body and quietly slid from the bed. Duo stirred sleepily and opened one indigo eye, smiling up lazily at Heero.

“What time is it?” Duo asked, not bothering to stifle a huge yawn.

“A little after 7,” Heero replied, reaching for his shirt.

“Seven?” squawked Duo. “Why the hell are you up so early? Come back to bed.”

“I thought we’d eat and get an early start,” replied Heero. “The sooner we get on our way, the sooner we get to our new home.”

“But seven?” complained Duo. “Come back to bed with me. I want to cuddle with you for a while.”

“We can cuddle all you want in the car,” said Heero, doing his best to ignore the fact that Duo was sporting an early morning erection.

“Cuddling in the car sucks,” stated Duo. “You won’t let me touch, and without touching, cuddling is pointless. Come back to bed, just for a few minutes.”

“No. We need to get going,” replied Heero, turning his back on his lover. A rustle of the sheets and a soft gasp was enough to make him turn back, however.

Duo, it seemed, was taking matters into his own hand, literally. Head back, eyes half closed and his mouth open slightly and making the most delicious little sounds, he rubbed at his arousal over the sheet, rolling his hips slightly with the motion.

“Duo, stop that,” commanded Heero, trying his best to ignore the fire that Duo was lighting within him.

“But Heero, don’t you love me anymore?” whispered Duo, the tip of his tongue peeking out ever so slightly from between his parted lips. “Come back to bed with me.”

“Of course I love you. That’s not the point. We don’t have time for this,” said Heero pointedly, but his eyes lied. He eyes told Duo all that he needed to know. And that was that Heero was at his melting point. Duo pressed his advantage.

“Then, if you love me, come back to bed and show me,” Duo invited. He pulled his knees up and then let them fall to the sides, opening himself up to his lover. The sheet pulled away and gave Heero a view he couldn’t resist. Throwing the shirt to the side of the bed, Heero slid back into the bed with his lover.

“You are evil, Duo Maxwell,” Heero told him, punctuating the statement with a kiss, his tongue delving deeply into Duo's most willing mouth, his hand drifting down to rub across Duo's flat stomach.

“I know, but you love me anyways,” whispered Duo, a soft moan punctuation his remark. “I want you so bad. I’ve been good, and I deserve a reward.”

“You do, and I’m going to give it to you.” Heero's voice was thick with his pent up lust. He didn’t want to admit just how much he agreed with Duo about the unsatisfactory feeling of cuddling in the backseat of a car with his gorgeous long-haired lover, while two female agents sat in the front seat. Several times he had needed to force himself to remember that they were not alone, and that the agents most likely would not appreciate a sex show in the back seat.

But it was early and they were alone now. The only thing holding him back at the moment was the condition of Duo's shoulder. He didn’t want to aggravate the wound, and so decided on a compromise. A hand job, them getting off together, should take a little off the edge Duo was feeling. Full on penetration could come later, when Duo had healed a little more. They would have to be satisfied with that for now. Heero quickly divested himself of his underwear, Duo's boxers following quickly, then his hand was moving on their heated flesh, working swiftly to bring them to completion.

But Duo had different ideas, it seemed. After Heero rolled half way on top of him and took their two pulsing cock in his hand and started to stroke them together, Duo waited patiently for the hand to continue on its way to its ultimate destination. When that didn’t happen, he reached down with his own hand to try and encourage Heero’s to continue on its journey. But Heero remained stubborn, determined to get them both off in the simplest, quickest way.

“No, no, no,” moaned Duo. “Heero, not like this. I want you in me.”

“Not this time, babe,” Heero rasped, resisting the pull of Duo's hand. “Not till your shoulders healed some, and not until we have the leisure to make love properly.”

“But Heero,” whimpered Duo, not wanting to start another long day with just a quick hand job. But Heero was nothing if not persistent and Duo could feel his completion nearing.

“It’s alright. Come for me, baby,” Heero whispered, speeding up his movements. “Come for me, Duo.”

And Duo came, hot seed spilling through Heero's hand and onto his belly. Heero's climax quickly followed and he collapsed next to his spent lover, panting slightly, letting the afterglow engulf the both of them for a few moments.

But all too soon for Duo's taste, Heero was once again getting out of the bed, having used the discarded sheet to wipe most of the residual from their excess from his and Duo's bodies. Duo lay with his eyes closed, smuggling with his pillow, showing every indication of wanting to doze off again, but Heero pulled him out of his warm haze and back into the cold reality of the early morning.

“You’ve had your fun, now we need to get moving,” said Heero, searching for his discarded clothing. Duo sat on the edge of the bed and glared at his back as Heero once more commenced to dress himself. “I’m only thinking of you, babe.”

Heero pulled on his pants and tossed Duo's shirt to him, then headed for the bathroom.

“I’ll just be a few minutes in the bathroom, then it’s all yours,” said Heero, Duo's pants landing on the bed beside him. “I’ll dress your shoulder before we put on your shirt.”

Duo mumbled something unintelligible, which Heero knew he really didn’t want to hear, more than likely something rather unsavory about Heero’s habit of rising early, and his dissatisfaction with their current love life. Heero ignored him and closed himself in the bathroom.

~*~

Duo puttered around, managing to get his pants, socks and shoes on, but the button, zip and laces were beyond him at the moment. And the shirt was simply out of the question. Besides, Heero still needed to tend his shoulder, so why bother even trying to fight with the shirt? So he sat on the edge of the bed and waited for Heero to emerge and finish dressing him. It really sucked, having to be at the mercy of someone else for the simplest of things. Duo had never realized just how much a person took for granted the use of two hands until one was suddenly taken away.

He felt like a two-year-old waiting for daddy to help him dress and eat. It was all so depressing and he sighed heavily at his helplessness. On the bright side though, Heero wasn’t taking too much advantage of the chance to tease him unmercifully about it, as Duo would have done if the shoe was on the other foot. That just wasn’t like Heero. He was much more subtle about his teasing, usually getting Duo fired up over the simplest of things. And Duo was so easily fired up that he always played right into Heero's hands. Duo sighed again.

Heero came out as he gave the second sigh and looked at him quizzically. Duo gave passing thought to divulging his dilemma, then thought about it again and decided that, no, he probably shouldn’t share these particular thoughts with Heero. Not that Heero wouldn’t commiserate with him. He would. But he would also use Duo's concern at his helplessness to further torment him.

So, discretion being the better part of valor, Duo kept his thoughts to himself and suffered himself to having Heero finish dressing him and tend to his shoulder, which he did silently, much to Duo's relief.

Heero gather their possessions while Duo used the bathroom and they were ready to leave as soon as Duo had finished. They stopped by the agent’s room to let them know they would be heading down to breakfast, only to find that Agent White had already gone to tend to the car while Agent Green waited for them. The three headed downstairs to the dining room where Agent White would be joining them as soon as she was done.

Breakfast was a quiet affair and Heero made sure to give Duo his pain killers, thus ensuring that at least the first part of the drive would be a fairly quiet one.

After they had eaten and used the bathrooms once more, the four piled back into the dreaded car again and the headed for the highway, the second day of their journey towards their new lives.

~*~

Duo slept for nearly three hours before he woke up, feeling a bit cranky from being cramped in the back seat of the car. He moved off of Heero, who had been acting as a pillow and sat staring out of the window silently for several minutes.

Heero shifted, trying to get the blood circulating back into his butt and legs, and watched Duo from the corner of his eye. Duo was being too quiet for Heero's comfort. Usually he’d be chattering by now, or at the very least complaining about something. A silent Duo was a troubled, disturbed Duo. And trouble wasn’t what was needed in the back seat of a moving vehicle.

Then Duo turned abruptly to stare at Heero for a moment before he spoke, almost as if weighing carefully what he was about to say.

Heero mentally braced himself for what ever was about to come out of Duo's mouth.

“Where’s my gun?” Duo asked abruptly.

Heero sighed. He’d thought that perhaps Duo had forgotten about it, but he should have known better. Duo never forgot about anything. If he didn’t get what he wanted immediately, he would put it on hold to spring on an unwary Heero at the least likely moment.

“Well?” prompted Duo, a challenging look taking over his face.

“I told you, babe. Locked in the trunk,” replied Heero calmly.

“I want it,” Duo demanded. “And my knives. I want them, too.”

“Not right now,” said Heero, staring back into the flashing indigo eyes.

“Why not?” asked Duo, a slight edge to his voice.

“Because the car is moving,” said Heero, trying to sound reasonable without being patronizing.

“Then stop it,” Duo told him.

“No,” was Heero's reply.

“Why not? They’re mine and I want them,” demanded Duo, sounding rather like a petulant child.

“You can wait until the next stop,” Heero told him. “I’m not having them stop the car for such a trivial reason.”

“Fine. Then give me some more drugs,” Duo demanded.

“Sure. If it makes you feel better,” Heero answered, fishing the bottle out of his pocket and giving Duo one of the pills. Silently he handed over a bottle of water, which Duo took with a grunt.

He quickly swallowed the pill with a large gulp of water, then settled back against the seat quietly. But his eyes never stopped their restless movement, and Heero noted the change in his breathing pattern. Duo's agitation was only increasing.

Heero could feel the impending explosion, but knew that there was no way to defuse the situation at the moment. He hoped, that by giving Duo space and not pressing him that it would blow over without incident.

Fate seemed to be smiling on him as the drugs started to take affect and Duo relaxed enough to start to doze peacefully. Hopefully it would last until they stopped for lunch. Food would go a long way to pacifying Duo for the time being.

Almost as if reading his mind, Agent White turned to look back at him.

“There’s a small town about a half an hour away. We thought we’d stop there for gas and to grab some lunch, if that’s alright with you,” she said.

“Fine. We can all use a break from the car, even if it’s only for a few minutes,” Heero replied. “I’ll wait until we stop for gas before I wake Duo. Then we can decide on lunch.”

The car was quiet once more, except for the soft hum of the radio in the background. Heero could hardly wait to get to their destination. Duo was getting too restless for his liking. Hopefully by dinner time they would arrive. Only another few hours.

~*~

The car finally slowed and pulled off the highway, and Duo stirred once more, opening his hazy indigo eyes, looking around sleepily.

“So, where are we now?” he asked, leaning over to snuggle next to Heero for the moment.

“Stopping for gas and some lunch,” replied Heero. “How does grabbing some burgers sound to you?”

“Fine. But can we not eat in the car, please?” Duo asked. “I’d like to sit outside and get some fresh air for a while.”

“Alright,” agreed Heero. “Anyplace in particular that you want to stop?”

“That place looks fine,” replied Duo, pointing to a burger place next to a gas station. “We can walk over while the agents get gas.”

“Works for me,” said Heero, smiling at his long-haired lover. Duo had seemed to put the gun issue on hold for the time being and Heero could only hope he would decide not to purse the issue again.

After a very filling lunch, the group headed back to the waiting car. Duo hesitated for a moment, then seemed to come to some kind of a decision. He crawled into the back seat and waited for Heero to join him, then crawled onto his lap.

“Are you going to stay here for long?” Heero asked, trying to get comfortable.

“Dunno,” Duo shrugged. “Let’s just see how the mood strikes me.”

Heero said nothing, but he raised an eyebrow at his contrary lover. It was hard to tell what Duo was thinking, but at least he wasn’t complaining. Duo simply smirked and twisted around a bit, making himself as comfortable as he possibly could. It seemed as if he was planning on a nap.

Neither man said anything, sharing a rare, comfortable silence. Duo snuggled closer and before long began to snore softly in Heero's ear. Heero simply closed his eyes and relaxed as much as possible. His discomfort was a small price to pay for Duo's contentment.

The afternoon slowly drifted into evening and the sun was getting ready to set when the car slowed once more and exited the highway. Duo awoke and looked around, blinking sleepily for a few moments.

“Are we there yet?” he finally asked, trying to stifle a yawn. Heero shrugged and glanced up to see Agent White turning towards them.

“We’re in the town. The house is a couple of miles further on, on the outskirts of the town. Do you want to stop for anything or do you want to straight on to the house?” she asked.

“Hmm. Maybe we should grab something to eat,” replied Heero. “I know there is some staff at the house, and that they are expecting us, but I’m not sure of all of the details.”

“Food,” voted Duo, even though he had not been asked. “I’m hungry.”

“Let’s get food, and we can sort the rest out later,” decided Heero.

“Any where in particular?” asked Agent Green. Heero looked at Duo, a questioning brow raised.

“Burgers are fine,” replied Duo. “That place on the right looks good.”

The agent pulled into the indicated fast food place and into the drive thru. Food ordered, she glanced at the map while they waited at the pickup window.

‘Soon,’ Agent Green thought. ‘Then we can be done with this charade. I hope we are never asked to do this type of thing again. I might have to consider unemployment.’

She paid and collected the food, then passed the bags to the back seat. Only Heero and Duo had ordered anything. The agents planned on dropping the two in their custody off, then heading for a motel close to a bar. After this little eye opening journey, the two agents had agreed that they both needed a good stiff drink.

Heero took a couple of bites of his rather dry, nondescript burger and nibbled at some limp fries while watching Duo wolf down his share of the meal. Heero was thinking that he wasn’t even tasting what he was eating, or was quite possibly just eating fast so that he wouldn’t have to taste the food. Heero made a mental note to not stop at that particular establishment at any time in the near future. Duo had barely finished his fries when the car turned down a long tree lined drive.

A couple of hundred feet down the drive, the car stopped for an impressive set of gates that went through a fence that was artfully decorated with flowering hedges. The gates swung silently open with the input of the code by Agent Green, and the car proceeded on.

Duo gasped at the sight of the magnificent house. Even Heero was suitably impressed. It was by no means a mansion, but it far exceeded the norm for a house. Heero felt as if the roomy abode with it’s vast grounds would be the ideal place for the recuperating Duo. Here he could have all the space he needed, while being maintained within the tightest security available. It was perfect.
