Chapter 33: Incomplete
Gohan was lying in bed in the infirmary that Bulma had set up. He had indeed passed out from exhaustion and was in the process of sleeping it off. Dende had healed all of his physical injuries. Forcing a switch like that had taken it's toll, Gohan hadn't moved for over two hours before he finally stirred. Jeice had just entered the room as he was coming round.
"Hey, Gohan!" Jeice sat down by the bed. Gohan was disoriented and tired, his stomach was still hurting even after that lengthy nap. "Are you back?"
"Yeah," he said, looking over tentatively at Bulma.
"Everyone knows, it's okay."
"Did anyone get hurt?" asked Gohan. "Is everyone okay?"
"A couple of bystanders got knocked over but they're okay. You mainly just fought Cell and tore him a new one. He's off healing himself somewhere in a huff."
Gohan sighed, worrying a little about the repercussions of that, but one thing about what Jeice said grated on him a little.
"It wasn't me," said Gohan. "It was him. The saiyan."
Bulma appeared in his line of view, she sat on the opposite side of the bed.
"How are you feeling?"
"Tired... " he said truthfully.
"Get some sleep, there's no rush. What happened out there has totally drained you."
"That fight was... intense," said Yamcha. The fighters all sat down for lunch to discuss what had just occurred.
"It was disturbing," said Krillin.
"What do you expect when you're sparring with Cell?" said Vegeta.
"That wasn't sparring!" They all looked at Krillin. "That wasn't even intense training! That was just outright violence!"
Gohan and Cell did a number on each other, not fighting fairly, taking cheap and dirty shots, fighting purely to hurt each other and nothing more.
"Gohan's power was... unbelievable," said Tien. "But it didn't feel right."
"I know what you mean. He was uncontrollable," said Piccolo. "It reminded me of when he transformed into a great ape when he was a boy. He just completely lost all sense of self."
"All I could feel was rage," said Goku. "I can't imagine the pain that he's in for his power to take over him like that."
"We saw hints of it at the Cell Games, but nothing like this."
"Well the only way we got him to transform again was to force it out like the first time. And with his state of mind right now... "
"He can't control it anymore."
Gohan awoke another two hours later to an empty room... and horrendous pain.
The aching in his stomach that he'd been dealing with for the last few days had turned into an unyielding cramping, it made him feel nauseous and weak. He felt hot and feverish.
Great, this is the last thing I need.
He didn't have the time nor the patience to be sick right now. He'd had enough of feeling weak. As much as he tried, he couldn't get comfortable on that infirmary bed, and figured he'd be better off in his room. It took most of his strength to move without using his stomach at all, and when he got onto his feet, he felt heavy and shaky.
He somehow made it to his room without anyone noticing he'd gone. He was using the wall to prop himself up, the door was just a couple of meters away when Cell came around the opposite corner.
"Which twin is this one then?"
"We're not twins," said Gohan, who seemed weirdly out of breath.
"Shouldn't you be locked in an asylum somewhere? Or a cage?" sneered Cell, but when he finally looked at Gohan, he could sense something off about him. It wasn't his saiyan half, that was certain. But he looked a little unwell.
"I don't feel right."
Gohan was flushed in the face, clutching his lower abdomen. The android moved closer to him, then he was hit with an intoxicating scent. He managed to catch some of his ability to think rationally before it completely fell from his brain, though most of it went straight to his loins. He had a hunch as to what was going on, but found himself moving even closer.
"What do you want me to do about it?" quizzed Cell, a little harshly. He knew that it was his saiyan half that inflicted all that pain on him, his shoulder was still aching. And yet he couldn't help but be angry at him and want to return all that pain tenfold. He reached out quickly with his good arm, grabbing him by his gi and shoved him into his room, locking the door behind him. Gohan had to prop himself up on the nearest wall again, resting his back on it, exhaling deeply to try to ease whatever was happening with his body.
"Could you exact your revenge later? I think I'm sick," said Gohan, his eyes shut, trying to shake off the fever.
"Well... obviously," he remarked dryly.
His hand unconsciously reached out to trace his fingers over his cheek - his skin was burning. Gohan flinched, not noticing his hand coming towards him, but felt a slither of relief at his touch, his icy hands felt good against his red hot skin. Cell's hand cupped one side of his face, Gohan seemed to melt into his hand.
"You're hands are freezing," he said, a hint of a smile showing. Physical contact seemed to make him feel better.
"Tell me something I don't know."
Gohan placed his hand on top of Cell's, the android noticing how hot his hands were too. He closed in on the other side of his face, tracing his lips along his other cheek. His scent was still knocking him sideways, and as his nose reached his ear, he clocked on to what it was... it was his blood. He could smell it. It was that and saiyan pheromones, which only made him believe his suspicions even more.
"What are you doing?" he whispered breathlessly.
"You smell so good."
"Huh?"
Gohan gasped as his neck was tenderly bitten, it sent a shiver down his shoulder blade. Then he was kissed, not aggressively, but it was enough to make him moan into it.
"I can hear my heart in my ears," he said nervously. His heart beat pounded painfully against his eardrums, causing his hearing to be a little dulled. It made Cell suddenly aware of something; he'd never really felt his own heart beat before - until now. Whatever this was, it was affecting him too.
He lured him into another kiss, slamming him back into the wall. Gohan's head started spinning when he hit it, his senses heightened and his body overly sensitive. As the android gained access to his mouth, he was taken by how hot his breath was too.
"What's happening to me?"
"Stop talking," he said, clinging onto his final threads of control. Gohan initiated the kiss this time, placing his hands on his chest. He was losing himself to his instincts, it seemed that his desire to have sex went into overdrive, it was all he wanted in that moment and nothing could stop it. However, the logical part of his brain insisted on fighting back, bringing him back to his senses for a moment.
"Mm!" Gohan's muffled objections was heard as Cell broke away, but only a little.
"What?" The android was growing impatient. He could sense Gohan's apprehension, but with all of the pheromones coming off him, he really didn't care for Gohan's feelings on the matter. He knew what was happening. Saiyans were composed of three sexes: male, female, and a rare type of male who could also play the role of a female - a recent evolutionary phenomenon as a result of a depletion in the female population. These saiyans went into heat. And that's exactly what Gohan was experiencing.
Cell's saiyan genes were responding to him, though the fact that his saiyan blood was quite heavily diluted made it easier for him to be aware of what was happening. He was more astonished of the chances of such a rare type of saiyan being alive at this time.
"I feel weird... " he said, becoming delirious with the fever. "I don't think this is a good idea."
"I do."
Cell turned him around and pushed him up against the wall again, not gently, Gohan's face turned to one side; the cold wall felt heavenly on his hot cheek even though it had just smacked into the hard surface. The android felt him weakly struggle to free himself as he hurriedly tugged at the remainder of his clothing from their fight
"Stop it, I don't feel well," he groaned. He felt him messing with his pants, then his hand went into the back of them, fishing around until he felt a cold finger inside him suddenly. He gasped and his breath caught in his throat. It felt good, but not in the way it usually felt.
"As I thought," said Cell with a smile that Gohan could feel by his ear. A female opening, right under him; one that hadn't shown itself until now. Gohan just happened to be an the appropriate age for his heat cycle to begin.
"What are you doing?" Gohan was cut off by his own voice, giving an erotic reaction to that finger pushing as far into him as possible.
Cell was in two minds - inform him of what was happening within his body right now... or take advantage of the situation.
"Does that feel good?" he asked, pushing up against him.
"I'm not sure," Gohan answered, his eyes were now shut, his body responding to the digit inside of him and not taking in much else. The android began pumping his finger quickly, getting a feel for him. He felt wetter as he kept doing it.
The scent of Gohan's blood and the sounds he was making were getting on his last nerve, he couldn't wait any longer. He uncovered himself, pulling Gohan's pants down further. Before the saiyan could catch up with the situation, the android was inside him completely in one swift motion. Both of them felt something tear for a split second.
"Argh." Gohan felt pain at first, his breath caught in his throat. It hadn't quite registered that Cell had entered him through an entirely different passage, he was too caught up in his fever.
The android sighed contently into his ear, his body pressed right up against Gohan's and into the wall; this was something else, it felt hot, wet and tight. It wasn't long before he began moving in and out of him.
Gohan felt odd, soon it became extremely pleasurable in a totally different way than it usually did. Cell slowed himself, not hearing anything from Gohan at all apart from heavy breathing.
"Wakey wakey," he said, noticing that his eyes were closed. "Come on, Gohan. I thought you enjoyed getting fucked."
"I can smell you. What is that?" he said shakily.
"I believe those are pheromones."
Gohan managed to peel his face from the wall, turning his head around as far as he could. Cell felt his nose and lips along his jaw, moving his head further over Gohan's shoulder to give him more access.
"Smells like... copper," he said breathlessly. He reached up and behind with his hand to touch Cell's face, meanwhile, the android was exploring his his lower torso, cold fingers gliding across his burning skin... and then lower until he reached his cock. Gohan responded vocally and his legs seemed to fall asleep at the sensation, luckily Cell caught him.
"Careful," Cell said softly against his ear. He pushed him back up against the wall, fully giving into his urges. He pulled his hips further towards him, Gohan's hands instinctively shot out to the wall to stop himself falling over, he rested his forehead on it to get more support and more of that cold surface; that proved to be a bad idea when he was slammed into and he bumped his head. What happened next was a total blur as he was lost in the sensations of his fever and what Cell was doing to him. He let the android have his way, not that he minded too much - as strange as it all felt, it also felt really good.
"Ow... " Gohan didn't mean for that to slip out in between the rest of the noise he was making. Cell was hurting him a little. Probably on purpose. "Ouch!"
Cell pressed him fully against the wall again, still grinding into him.
"Oh, does that hurt?"
He was definitely doing it on purpose. Gohan's head was facing the right, the android had his nose and mouth against his ear and neck, he was so close that it was all Gohan could hear. Gohan's stomach felt less painful as it went on, it was almost fluttering, then there was a pressing need for it all to end.
"Faster... "
Gohan tensed at last, his blood and pheromones reaching their peak and setting off his own orgasm. Cell had enough sense to grab hold of Gohan's hair to keep him right where he was; he bit into his neck hard, moaning into it as they both came together. Gohan responded with a pain filled whimper for a second, and wanted so badly to return it but couldn't as his head remained firmly in Cell's grasp, but his own orgasm was proving enough to satisfy the heat anyway.
As both their bodies finally relaxed again, Cell released his skin from his teeth, tasting blood. He ran his tongue over it, lapping up all of the blood from the wound. Gohan was slowly coming round again, enjoying the attention. The android was still inside him, holding him close and then he leaned into his ear.
"You might still have the edge on me in a fight, but never forget that you belong to me."
As soon as Cell removed himself from him, his eyes fell shut. The android caught him, laying him down on his bed. He wasn't sure if he fell into a deep sleep or simply passed out. His body had just been through an intense change so he wouldn't have been surprised at either. He felt surprisingly sleepy himself.
He observed the bite on his neck, it was a moon shaped mark, still raised and red. But it was clean at least.
Cell looked the limp, exhausted saiyan lying on the bed in front of him, passed out on his side, his clothes barely on him. He snapped out of it a little when he heard noise outside in the hallway. He reached down to fix his clothes for him as he remained motionless, he at least preserved some of his dignity if someone were to find him like this. As he proceeded to cover him up more, he found Gohan's skin almost humming against his fingers.
Cell found it strange to say the least, Gohan's body now seemed to be responding to his touch instinctively. Cell smiled to himself; Gohan now belonged to him fully whether he liked it or not, that bite on his neck was a mating mark, and would remain there forever as a scar. He thanked himself lucky that he had enough control left to prevent Gohan from doing it to him in return. Their bond, as a result, was one sided. Incomplete. And Gohan would always feel that.
He woke up to a knock at the door. It took him a moment to come back to reality. How did he get back to his room again?
"Hello?" he said, his voice cracking. As he pushed himself up into sitting, he noticed his belt was still missing, he briefly recalled it being used to choke him earlier that day.
"There you are," said Jeice.
"We went to check on you and you'd disappeared."
"Oh, sorry," sighed Gohan. "I guess I needed my own bed," he laughed nervously.
"Bulma's got something she wants to talk to you about."
"Okay?"
As Bulma sat on the bed next to him, Jeice took his place against the wall opposite.
"Gohan, have you heard of dissociative identity disorder?" she asked.
"Heard of... huh?" He hadn't, but it piqued his interest.
"It's okay. From what Jeice and Krillin told me, you have all the characteristics of it. If it's not that, then you definitely have a least a form of it."
"Dissociative identity disorder?" Gohan hadn't heard of it.
"As a child, you have separate personalities that merge into one as you get older. But if that child is put through certain repeated trauma, sometimes it doesn't happen. Your mind splits off. It all makes sense with the gaps in your memory, bouts of depression, the self harming."
"So I'm broken as hell," Gohan laughed wryly.
"Not at all, it's just how your brain has developed to cope with the trauma in your life."
"How do I fix it?"
"I don't know if you can. From the material I have, it's at the very least a lifetime of therapy."
"Great... "
"I could try giving you an antipsychotic but I doubt it would have any effect on you. You match the description but not totally. Do you front most of the time?"
"Yeah."
"Wait, front?" asked Jeice.
"Think of a whole person being made of two parts rather than just one like you and me. Gohan and his saiyan part have split off into two and then developed into separate people."
"So you're two people in one body?"
"There's three of us, actually," admitted Gohan. "The third showed itself after I came off the antranide. He fronted once for a few minutes."
"So there's, you, your saiyan part and... "
"It's complicated. He's me, but he's four years old. It's like he's stuck in a loop. He's trapped in Raditz's pod waiting for my dad to come and save him, and he's always going to be there."
"I see, so he's holding that trauma for you. Do you still have any memory of that moment?" asked Bulma.
"I know it happened, but I don't remember what it felt like anymore, not since he broke off."
"Is he okay?"
"He's happy enough. He has his own space and he spends most of his time asleep. I think the stress he's always subconsciously under tires him out fast."
"This is why I think it's a version of the disorder, the three of you are separate people, but you all still identify as Gohan at different parts or aspects of your life. Do you dissociate sometimes?"
"You mean do I zone out a lot? Yeah. That's how I ended up accidentally offing myself last week. One minute it was one cut and the next I'm bleeding out... sorry," said Gohan, his eyes falling.
"It's okay to talk about it," said Jeice.
"Sometimes I zone out because I'm talking to the saiyan in my head. Usually it's because I want him to drive because I'm tired."
"Have you ever been co-conscious with him?" asked Bulma.
"What does that mean?"
"Where both of you are driving at once. Say you're in a car, you could be at the wheel and he's in the seat next to you."
"Once, it was the minutes leading up to when I killed Cell seven years ago, but I didn't realise that was what happened until just now."
"Maybe the next step is for the two of you to work together more often," suggested Bulma. "That might help you when you're fighting. For now, rest up here. Come and get some food when you're ready."
"I'm actually really hungry for once... " said Gohan. "I'll be there soon, I just need a shower."
As they left, Gohan let out a huge sigh. There was finally a name for his broken brain, but unfortunately there was no going back. He and his alters were stuck together. Apart from that relief, he also noticed that his stomach wasn't hurting anymore. He took a moment to piece together what happened between the moment he switched and waking up in his bed.
He got to one of the bathrooms, bring a change of clothes with him - a pair of jeans and a black long sleeved shirt, his usual casual attire these days to cover his scars. He attempted to shake his already loose hair out to brush it when he became aware of an ache on the right side of his neck. He figured he'd slept funny, going to feel around. But there was a specific spot behind his ear that felt bruised and raised like he'd been stung by something. He grabbed a small mirror by the window, standing in front of the larger one by the sink. Brushing his hair off his neck, he saw what looked like a crescent shaped injury. It took him a moment to realise that it was a bite when he could make out what looked like healing tooth marks.
Fuzzy memories came flooding back - he and Cell had sex earlier that day. He felt weird about not remembering it very well, but he recalled feeling quite sick leading up to it, and now he didn't. It was if the sex had cured his stomach pain. The only way to find out for sure was to ask Cell, which was a conversation he wasn't looking forward to to say the least.
It was dinner time though, he could tell as fighters were starting to gather in the same direction he was going in once he'd got himself cleaned and dressed.
He got into the dining area, feeling much better than he had in days. Since this was the land of the Kais, a banquet could easily be materialized out of thin air. His mother seemed grateful for the rest from preparing all the food as he observed her relaxing with Goku, one hand feeding herself, and the other nursing Haru.
He took a plate and a few things from the table full of food and slowly began to make his way through it. In a room full of fighters from the otherworld walking around, nobody approached him. He could see some of his friends on the other side of the room but made no effort to acknowledge them just yet. He watched Cell from the corner of his eye when he came in, he walked in front of him, stopping at the food table and poured himself a glass of water.
"What's wrong?" asked Gohan. There it was again; until recently he'd never known Cell to need any kind of nourishment - unless something was seriously wrong. Extra water seemed to help him heal what he couldn't by himself.
"Nothing."
Gohan didn't expect anything else. Why would Cell admit that something wasn't right? Especially to somebody else.
"Your hands are shaking."
"Did you want something?" asked Cell, clearly irritated. The android finally looked at him. Gohan could see just how dishevelled and agitated he looked. Oddly, it made him feel better about his own situation. "Well?"
"Fine, forget it," he sighed. He hadn't the patience for him right now. He just wanted to eat. Gohan took his plate and went to the table Jeice was sitting at. With him were Burter, Krillin, Trunks and Yamcha.
"Hey, kid," said Jeice, budging up a little for him.
"Where did all these fighters come from?" asked Gohan, not recognising any of them. There must have been about thirty new faces in the room.
"Fighters from heaven," said Yamcha. "They've come to train with us and help us fight against Frieza."
"Can't wait to pick up training again tomorrow," said Burter. "You in?"
"Uh, sure. If you still want me after... " Gohan felt guilty about what happened, or what he was told about it. "I'm sorry. For before. I don't really remember what happened but... "
"It's fine, Gohan," said Trunks. "These guys and my mom explained everything to us. We know it wasn't really you. We know you had no control over it."
That warm moment of acceptance was interrupted by a sudden sound of shattering glass ringing through the room. They all looked over to the source of it to find Cell staring at a broken glass at his feet. The android realised that he was being stared at, eyeing as many people as he could with an irritated look on his face.
"What?!" he scolded at them. Only Gohan noticed the spasm in his right hand that he was obviously trying to hide - Cell had lost his grip on the glass. The android stormed off and out of the room and everyone returned to what they were doing before, one of heaven's fighters offering to clean up Cell's mess.
"What the hell's up with him?" asked Yamcha.
"Might have something to do with the fact that Gohan's saiyan friend absolutely kicked his ass this morning?" laughed Jeice, not hiding that he found it a little amusing.
"Was it that bad?" asked Gohan, a nervous look on his face.
"You really don't remember do you?" said Trunks.
"No, once my alter takes over, I'm gone. Total blackout."
"It was pretty brutal. You dislocated his shoulder," said Jeice.
"Oooh... " Gohan now understood Cell's distain when he saw him earlier while he was sick. Now he really wasn't looking forward to their next encounter. He turned back to his plate and he was suddenly very hungry. "Wow, I'm actually starving for once."
"We all are, man. We carried on training while you were out. Forgot how much of an appetite it gives me, never mind you saiyans!"
Gohan dug into his meal with at least more restraint than his father and Vegeta were on the other side of the room, listening to his friend's idle chatter. But then the room fell silent again when they all heard somebody shouting from the doorway.
"I need help!"
It was Pikkon, signalling over to Goku.
"What is it?" Goku still had a half finished bowl in his hands.
"It's the android, he's collapsed in the hallway!"
"What?!"
Oh no... Gohan knew it was only a matter of time before Cell's deteriorating health would finally show itself publicly. He had the sense to pause for a moment to determine what to do; he couldn't run straight to him, he didn't want to give everyone the impression that he cared that deeply for Cell. Should he go to him at all? Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo ran out to follow Pikkon.
"Uh, suppose we should check it out?" asked Jeice tentatively, looking at Gohan.
"I guess we should," he answered.
They all got up from the table, just as they heard Vegeta shouting for Bulma. Gohan was dreading what he was about to find. Sure enough, Cell was passed out on the ground in the hallway, his body convulsing in yet another seizure. Goku had his hand on Cell's shoulder, keeping him securely on his side as per Vegeta's instruction.
"Everyone clear out now!" said Vegeta. "Give her some room!"
Bulma arrived with an array of medication to try on him. Pikkon cleared the hallway as best he could, leaving just Trunks, Krillin, Gohan and Jeice standing to the side.
"Gohan, I don't mean to presume, but do you know anything?" asked Bulma as she administered a sedative through a vein in his neck. "Has he ever seized like this before."
Gohan sighed, closing his eyes. Was he going to regret this?
"Yes," he admitted. "At least twice before."
"And you just failed to mention it?!" scolded Vegeta.
"You honestly think Cell would let him breathe a word about this?!" said Jeice. Gohan silently thanked him for standing up for him like that.
"It's stopping," said Bulma as Cell eventually stopped moving. He was out cold.
Cell was still unconscious an hour later, hooked up to various medications to keep him under. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Jeice, Trunks and Krillin waited outside for her.
"It's not looking good," said Bulma, coming out to the small circle of fighters.
"Finally got what's coming to him, then," scoffed Vegeta.
"Hate him all you want, Vegeta. We still need him in this fight," said Goku.
"I don't know what I'm dealing with here," she said. "Cell is a complicated being as it is, let alone a technically dead one. Has anyone noticed anything off about him since he came off the antranide besides the seizures?"
"Well, there's nothing wrong with his fighting from what we saw this morning."
"Gohan, you've seen him the most out of us," said Piccolo. "Is there anything else going on?"
Gohan hated being asked all these questions, being reminded of all the shitty things he'd done. But now was the time to swallow his pride and help in any way he can; he could worry about facing Cell's wrath later.
"He has tremors in his hands most of the time. He's drinking water, which is something I've never seen him do until now."
"He needs nourishment?" said Bulma, surprised at that fact. "What else?"
"Uh, he's taking longer to heal and his temperament is a little different I guess."
"Different how?"
"You mean he's more of a bastard than usual?" quipped Jeice.
"Pretty much."
"This is all pointing towards him seriously deteriorating. But I can't do much for him. I've no idea how he works," sighed Bulma. "There's only one person who knows Cell well enough to help him. The only problem is, how do we find him?"
"Who?" asked Jeice.
"We need to find Doctor Gero, he's the scientist who created Cell. He'll have likely escaped Hell too."
"And how the hell are we meant to do that if he has no energy signature?" asked Vegeta. "Don't forget that he also turned himself into an android."
"I can ask King Kai and Baba," suggested Goku. "We should be able to find him if we work together."
Sure enough, after a few days of searching, they located Doctor Gero back at the old Red Ribbon Army base back on Earth. He had a secret bunker underground that was still operational and completely isolated from the desolate, uninhabitable earth above ground. The doctor was dumbfounded when Goku appeared randomly in his lab, Vegeta and Piccolo in tow.
They explained the situation to him, and though Doctor Gero was reluctant to work alongside Goku, he agreed to take on Cell's situation.
Gohan went to bed alone that night, and would go to bed alone for a long while - Cell was transported back to earth so that Doctor Gero could use his help to rebuild most of his equipment, as Cell was also able to survive on the outside of the base. They would then be able to get to the bottom of his condition.
The saiyan felt a lot of anxiety at the thought of being without him. But held onto one particular achievement - two weeks without cutting himself.
Gohan felt a hint of determination to keep that record going, but he'd have to do it without Cell to fall back on.
