Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Thirty-eight
Turned out getting suspended was good for Something after all. Turned out it was a lot easier to deal with being in heat when there were no guys around. You felt overly warm the whole time, feverish really, and lonely. But at least you didn’t have the urge to jump on unsuspecting guys like Vegeta and Gohan. In the back your your head you wished they would jump on you but that was inconsequential as they weren’t there.
As you stayed away from everyone, ordering copious amounts of takeout to supplement your food stores, you still worked on your assignments. You didn’t want them to count against your grade. And Sharpner turned them in for you seeing as you weren’t allowed on school grounds. He might be a bit of a bragger but he was a decent guy. Most of the time. You heard from Erasa he even threw a pitched a ball into a guy’s groin during PE after they’d been talking shit about you in the locker rooms. If that wasn’t a sign of friendship you weren’t sure what was.
And as your heat faded in the early morning hours, you laid down for a rest. Somehow you had the feeling that Gohan was one of those early birds. You weren’t disappointed. But at least he waited till 7:30 before knocking at your door. You tossed on a long robe before you opened the door this time.
Just by looking at him, you were quite glad that you'd waited till after you'd kick the heat before taking him up on his training offer. As much as you wanted to fly you didn't want to do anything you regret. With how you were feeling yesterday and the day before, seeing Gohan as he was in that moment would have definitely made you want to do something you'd regret. He looked more in his element in the dark blue, short sleeved Gi than he did in the clothes he wore to school. It was just that if the V neck was on a girl she probably would have been had her chest spilling out left and right.
He smiled, “Are you ready?”
“Won’t know until we get there,” you replied honestly.
“Hmm, I suppose that’s true. The hyperbolic time chamber was overwhelming the first time I saw it too.”
You nodded as though you understood what he was talking about. Vaguely you remembered that Goku mentioned something about some time of chamber but the name had almost been in passing. You remembered more of the sensation and awe he had in his voice when he spoke about things more than the actual names. Especially since he never seemed to mention the names very often.
"Let me get dressed," You motioned for him to come in as you talked.
As he went to stand by the kitchen, he noticed that you had some of your textbooks laying out along the kitchen island. There were remnants of snacks as well. He smiled slightly at that - looked like you were at least trying to study and get your work done. That was nice to know. Although from what he could see you hadn't gotten very far. It looked like you were just keeping up with the classes. Then again this was coming from the guy who had been learning precalculus when he was about eight years old.
As you got dressed and ready for the day, Gohan might have started cleaning up the chicken wings and other such things he found. You heard him from the bathroom and that made you laugh. You'd been leaving most of the cleaning till the last minute because honestly, you hadn't felt like doing anything productive while you felt like you were running a fever. When you emerged you watched as Gohan had begun to pack up your homework and a lot of supplies.
"What are you doing?" You asked in surprise.
"Well where we're going, it's going to feel like a long time even though we won't be gone for more than a day," Gohan described. "And I thought since you've been working so hard on keeping up you wouldn't want to forget anything."
Huh, that was starting to sound familiar. Chamber...training...large place, not much time passing…
"Oh, we're going to that white room type place at the lookout?" You asked as you realized what Gohan had been talking about. "The year for the day place?"
"Yeah! Exactly. That's the one. Have you used it before?" He asked, almost excited at the prospect that you knew what he was talking about.
You shook your head as you in negation as you looked at him. Despite the fact that you had never been there he still seemed excited. What kind of life did this boy leave that something as simple as someone know what he was talking about brought out that much joy? Was there fond memories attached to it or something? You were betting there were; if he was training, it probably left a good impression. Although Gohan seemed studious you could practically feel the energy rolling off of his skin even as he suppressed it. He didn't get that way without any training. So he must have done a lot of it and faced off against some challenging opponents. And now he was going to teach you. The thought was almost enough to make you smile. You didn't like hurting people but the idea of a challenge where you didn't have to sacrifice other aspects of your life was nice.
"No, your dad just told me about training there. Although...I don't think he lasted the full day or year, whatever you want to consider it as."
"Huh, he didn't tell me about that till he took me there," Gohan muttered to himself.
Oops. Seriously, how much had Goku changed? It seemed like he told you almost everything about his life up to the point you met him. And yet his own son seemed to find out things belatedly or only when they became important. You tried to balance the idea with how strong Gohan seemed - maybe they had been too busy defending themselves to really sit down and talk. Although from how smart Gohan was as well it seemed like he had plenty of time...so was him getting stronger not necessary? Was that just a side effect? If show how strong had Goku gotten before he died and stayed dead?! It wasn't exactly a happy thought either seeing as that meant he'd left his son without many memories. Seriously, what kind of dad did that? Even your own adopted father at least took the time to give you memories...sure they were lies but they were something to hold onto.
"So I should probably grab a few things huh?" you asked, motioning towards your dresser on the wall.
"Yeah, probably. Oh! But you don't need to worry about things to wear too much. I asked Bulma to make something specially for you to wear. I think you'll like it."
"...does it look like your Saiyaman outfit?" you asked skeptically.
You did not trust Gohan's fashion choices. Which was odd considering the fact that you never thought you were that picky over what you wore. And while most of his outfit wasn't too bad that helmet and green toga thing just didn't appeal to you. Or at least the combination of all items together looked really bad to you. He seemed to like it and that was good for him and all, but you really didn't want to join him.
"Huh? Oh, no, not like that. But it's still pretty cool," he told you with a smile.
You really hoped it was a different type of 'cool' than he thought his outfit was. Still, he was going to train you to fly. So you weren't going to complain about it if it was just as dorky. From what you understood no one else other than Gohan was going to see you in it. And if it got in the way of actually moving about you could always rip it up to make it suitable for movement. You gathered all of your different training clothes and your undergarments regardless, stuffing them in the biggest bag that you had. You also went to your bathroom to grab all of your hygiene and feminine products. Just because you were training didn't mean you were going to be gross about it. Besides you didn't know how long Gohan wanted you to stay in the chamber.
"Uh should I go to the store and buy...stuff?" you edged around the topic; there was no way you had enough to last for a year.
Gohan understood what you were talking about. He blushed and scratched his nose in embarrassment as he tried to explain, "I don't think so. The chamber stocks itself with everything you need for a year. Like soaps. But you can asked Mr. Popo when we get there if it will stock...that...for you but, I think you should be good."
It had never been something he'd had to worry about. But man, he couldn't imagine what it must be like to have to worry about training while having to deal with a menstrual cycle. He had a feeling that the discomfort described in the books he read about biology and anatomy as a kid wouldn't be too big of a problem, girls dealt with it all the time, but it seemed a bit...messy even in the description. It was hard to imagine that girls all around him dealt with it all the time and for the most part no one really seemed to know.

There was no way to truly describe the sensation that the great white expanse evoked. It was so large that the mind had a hard time comprehending everything. The sound was different and there wasn't anything in the air to smell. It was simply just air. The distortion and change was so different that it was quite dizzying. Especially with the way that everything was lit up exactly the same. There wasn't a source of light as far as you could tell or any movement, everything was completely still.
"Yeah, it's a bit intense," Gohan said with a grin.
That was putting it slightly. You nodded as you tried to adjust. It was different from anything you'd ever been in. All of the changes were really throwing you off. The only thing that seemed to be about the same as the Earth was the gravity. Other than the fact that it didn't seem to be moving around another celestial body and spinning on an axes (which you supposed created a moment like you were about to crash in an airplane) your body felt about the same weight.
"We should stick close to the building for now. It changes the farther you go out; the gravity and temperature start becoming more drastic."
"Is there an end?" You asked in awe.
Gohan seemed to consider it, "Dad and I never found it if there is one. Which makes it perfect for training. You don't have to worry about anything getting in your way. Or hurting anyone. Not to mention it's a real time saver."
Wow, just wow. While going was laughing at his own joke you just tried to let it all sink in. There was so much…
"Hey, let's get back to the building so I can show you what Bulma made for you," Gohan said, patting you on the shoulder.
You nodded, still trying to comprehend all the different things going on around you. Or rather not going on around you actually. You stepped backwards before turning around to follow Gohan. He stopped at the start of the back porch like area, throwing out a capsule container. With a puff of smoke the container appeared on the ground. He opened it up to display extra clothes.
You pulled out each distinct type of piece in turn. Sitting on top was white and black armor that while similar to the types you saw on Yardrats, had it's differences. For one there were flexible yet hardened straps on both side of the armor and the neckline was symmetrical sweetheart cut instead of the Yardratian asymmetrical line. Underneath the chest was white piping, curing around the shape of your ribs as well as streaming down what looked like an extra reinforced area of the stomach. The hardened sides rose above your hips, giving way to a more flexible area to allow for movement. Not that you could see that difference so much as feel it as your turned it over in your hand. There was even a semi-circle cut out in the back that would rise above your tail. For the most part, other than the detail work and the shoulders, it was done in a dark smokey gray that looked black from most angles.
There were white gloves that went up underneath your elbows that had built in forearm guards done in the same material as the body armor. And the knee high boots matched the cloves, shin guards and all. The last two pieces obviously went underneath the armor. The pants were pretty standard, dark and high waisted. In the back there was a cateye's slit so that your tail could stick out comfortably without being obscene in any way. The shirt was probably your favorite part. It was like gym tank top with a very secure area for your chest. There was a mesh type area around your chest so let out the heat that naturally built up as well as from the cap sleeves down past your elbows; there was a band of sold black material after that so that it comfortably fit underneath your gloves without bunching or rubbing awkwardly.
The outfit was perfect. And in your opinion, a whole lot better than what she'd made for Gohan. From your count there was a bunch of under outfits so you didn't have to wear them more than once a day without washing them. Other than the under pieces there were three sets of armor.
"Okay, I admit, this is cool," You said with a smile, looking over the pieces again. "Bulma outdid herself. There's so many of them here."
"She based it on the saiyan uniforms that she saw. But it's a whole lot darker. I told her you don't seem to wear a lot of blue or white. That's okay right?"
"Definitely," you said with a smile. "I'm going to go put it on now."
"Alright, I'll put mine on when we actually start sparing"
You nodded in acknowledgement as you walked away with one of the changes in hand. You hadn't seen Gohan's but you assumed that was because he had his in another capsule. You dropped your backpack off on one of the beds as you made your way to the bathroom. Other than the actual bathroom, everything seemed to be out in the open. Which you were pretty much used to given the fact that you lived in a studio apartment for the last few months. And before that (before you were confined to Kami's place) you'd shared a one room house, not counting the bathroom, with Goku for a while. When it wasn't in the house it was a one room, one bed motel room. At least here you had your own bed.
You got dressed without rushing it, making sure that everything fit properly and smiled. She really did a great job. You never pegged her as a seamstress or a tailor but the clothes were perfect. They gave you support where you needed it and let you bend in every direction you could think of. How she got the material to be so flexible and yet durable you had no idea. You were just amazed at her genius.
"Where do we start?" You asked with an uncertain smile when you came back out.
