Note: "Blue bear" is Heero's nickname given to him by Damion because when he was adopted his first gift from Heero was a blue bear.
The next day, Heero sat in his homeroom and waited for his teacher to arrive and take attendance. Duo's seat was empty, Heero could not help but fell guilty if it was his fault that Duo didn't come in, but he did not think anymore when the teacher came in.
The whole day passed as a blur, Heero would have thought that Duo only missed homeroom because he was late, but every single class that Heero had with the talkative boy, he wasn't there.
Duo has been missing from class for three days now. Even Duo would care about class to not miss it in three days in a row. Heero started to get worried especially when he heard chattering from the students that Duo has gone missing from home and hasn't been seen since the last day he attended school.
After school let out, Heero rushed out to find Duo's house. One of Duo's friends was kind enough to scribble down his address with the excused that he would bring Duo's notes he had missed in class.
Standing outside a nicely painted family home, Heero rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. A lady with red rimmed eyes opened the door.
"Duo...is that you sweat heart?" the lady said, when she realized that it wasn't Duo, she wiped away the tears that were streaming down her eyes. "I'm sorry, how can I help you young man?" she said politely while her voice betrayed her.
"I have come to see if Duo is here," Heero said.
"Oh my dear boy, Duo has gone missing! He hasn't come back yet, I fear the worst" the lady sobbed.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Maxwell, I didn't know" Heero said looking down.
"Its alright, please go home safe" Mrs. Maxwell said while closing the door.
Heero started to walk home. "Where did that baka go! He couldn't possibly have run away because of me!" Heero though.
Just as he was nearing his house, he saw a figure heading towards the same direction. He hasn't seen that person around here before. Heero noticed as he came closer that the person had a distinctive braid.
"Duo?" Heero called out, but no answer. "Duo!" Heero called louder, this time the rumpled figure turned around. Heero froze on the spot as he came face to face with the missing boy. Duo was clutching something tightly in his arms, something blue. As Heero was trying to make it out, Duo did the most unexpected thing. He broke into a run...limp towards Heero calling out Heero's name and embracing the shocked boy.
"Heero...Heero I found you! I was so scared, I thought you promised you won't ever leave me" Duo sobbed on Heero's shoulder.
"What are you talking about Duo?" Heero asked, "I never promised you any-" Heero was cut off by the laud band that echoed through the neighborhood. Heero saw the shocked look on Heero's face and the smaller American boy collapsed in a heap on the ground. The blue stuffed bear fell to the ground. Old, dirty and small, something in Heero's mind remembered he saw the bear before, but it wasn't time to think about that. Duo wasn't moving from the ground.
"Duo?" Heero said softly. "No, not again, not again!" Heero thought as he looked at the direction the shot came from and saw a figure running from the rooftop. "Shit!" Heero said as he realized that e was out on the open, he could be the next target for all he cares. He quickly picked Duo's small frame up and ran behind a shelter of a car. Duo cried in pain, Heero was scared. Why does this always happen around him. Why? Tears started forming at Heero's eyes as flashbacks of Damion falling to the sandy ground surfaced.
"Wh-why are y-you crying Blue bear?" Duo asked Heero. Heero looked down at Duo in shock.
"Wh-what did you call me?" Heero asked afraid of what he had hopped for in so long would just disappear. No one knew that Damion called him Blue bear. Not even his parents.
"Blue b-ear, Don't cry, I'm with you now..." Duo trailed off and went limp in Heero's arms.
'It can't be, there is no way Duo is Damion...Duo and Damion can't be one of the same! Damion died!' "Oh god please no!" Heero moaned. Heero placed Duo down gently and started for the nearest house. Heero started pounding on the door. A man answered in anger of Heero's pounding.
"What the heck do you want kid" the man said, thinking it is one of those punks who vandalized his yard a week ago.
"My friend...he has been shot! Please can you help me please!" Heero pleaded.
The man looked intently at Heero's face, seeing the boy has not faltered, he must be telling the truth.
"Get your friend here now! I will call the ambulance," the man said as he rushed off to make the call. Heero ran off the porch and went to get Duo. When Heero arrived at the spot, Duo was gone.
Heero was sure the left Duo here and he hasn't gone far to get help. Heero looked at the ground and saw a small trace of blood trail. With his eyes he followed the trial to find Duo curled up in the middle of the sidewalk in a fetal position. A small pool of blood surrounded the boy. In his arms he clutched onto a small, dirty, blue bear.
When the ambulance arrived, Duo has stopped breathing twice. The paramedics had to wrestle the blue bear out of Duo's firm unconscious hold and told Heero to hold onto the bear while they drove off with Duo loaded in the car. Once they arrived in the hospital, everything was a blur to Heero, he didn't even notice his hands dialing his parent's number and talking to them. He only noticed when his parents rushed up to him with a lady, Mrs. Maxwell, by their side and man who Heero presumed must be Mr. Maxwell.
"Heero what happened! Are you alright?" Heero's parents asked.
Heero looked up at his parents, with a blue bear stuffed animal in his hands.
"Ooto-san, Okaa-san, it was like Damion all over, I want it to go away. I want to see Damion Ooto-san" Heero said with tears streaming down his face. "I miss Damion so much..."
"Oh Heero, we didn't know that you felt so strongly about Damion" Heero mother said.
"We miss-judged your feelings Heero, we are sorry. We thought that with time, you have gotten over the incident" Mr. Kiato told his son. Heero's parent's pulled him in a deep embrace just as the doctor arrived.
The Maxwell's and Heero's parents rushed over to the doctor to get Duo's condition. "How is he, how is Damion doing?" Mr. Kiato asked the doctors firmly. The doctor looked up from his clipboard and asked for the parents of the boy who is in critical condition. None of them noticed that Heero had overheard their conversation. They called him Damion...they called Duo Damion...what is going on here Heero thought as he finally lost consciousness.
