The Calm before the Storm
Okay here is the next chapter. It’s kind of short but I’m hoping the next one will make up for it. Enjoy.

Chapter Four - The Calm before the Storm
Rei pulled out a chair and sat down at the kitchen table after giving a hug to Max who was eating pancakes deep in thought.
“Enrique informs me that you like pancakes,” Oliver said as he placed a large stack of pancakes in front of Rei.
“Better believe it. They’re the most delicious food in the world,” Rei said grinning at Oliver.
Max groaned and rolled his eyes but he had a huge grin on his face. Rei just poked his tongue out at him while reaching for the maple syrup.
Rei covered the pancakes with maple syrup and cut them, putting a mouthful in his mouth.
Rei chewed them and swallowed before exclaiming, “These are the best pancakes ever.”
“I’m surprised you can taste them under all that syrup,” Ian said eyeing the drowning pancakes.
“Bite me,” Rei said.
“Can’t. Kai would kill me,” Ian said eating another mouthful of his pancakes.
Breakfast was interrupted by the front door bursting open and a red head walking in followed by two others, one with medium purple hair and other with lavender hair.
“No,” the red head said turning to face the other two hands on his hips and eyes narrowed.
“But Tala you must,” the purple haired one said.
“Please,” the lavender haired one said stepping forward and taking the red head, Tala’s, hand.
“No. No. No and NO,” Tala said pulling his hand away and turning to the table.
The group that was gathered at the kitchen table had been watching the exchange between the three with interest.
“Oh look,” Tala said walking up and throwing his arms around Rei’s neck, he started to rub his cheek against Rei’s, “New person.”
“Hands off red,” Kai’s voice sounded from behind Tala.
“Aww I just wanted a hug,” Tala said letting go and looking at Kai with a pout.
“Don’t care,” Kai said walking up to Rei.
Kai pulled Rei up out of his chair and sat down, pulling Rei back into his lap and saying, “Mine.”
“What were you three fighting about when you came in?” Kai asked stealing a mouthful of Rei’s pancakes causing Rei to frown at him.
“Tala won’t tell us what he got us for our birthday,” the purple haired one said walking over to where Oliver was piling up some more pancakes onto to three more plates.
“Like I told Robert before. I’m not telling him because it’s supposed to be a surprise,” Tala replied leaning into Bryan who had come up behind him and wrapped his arms around the red head’s waist.
“And as I told Tala we can always act surprised,” the lavender haired one said nibbling Tala’s ear causing the red head to moan.
“Come on Bryan save it for the bedroom,” Johnny chided.
“This coming from the man who had sex on the kitchen table,” Bryan said looking at Johnny with a raised eyebrow.
“I cleaned it afterwards,” Johnny replied simply.
Rei laughed and Max giggled.
“So when are your birthdays?” Max asked looking at Robert.
“Bryan and my birthday is on Wednesday,” Robert replied, “By the way I don’t believe we’ve met. What’s your name?”
“I’m Max and that’s Rei,” Max replied pointing to Rei who was currently sharing a mouthful of pancakes with Kai.
Max shook his head and Ian snorted.
“What did I just tell Bryan,” Johnny complained looking at the two.
Kai and Rei pulled apart licking their lips.
“Kai hasn’t gotten some in ages. What do you expect?” Enrique said stretching his arms above his head.
Kai turned to glare at Enrique who just grinned back.
“Ignore him Kai,” Oliver said walking over and hitting his boyfriend in the back of the head.
“Love you too Oliver,” Enrique said grabbing Oliver and pulling him into his lap and giving him a kiss on the neck.
“How is your mum Max? I forgot to ask,” Rei said looking at his blonde haired friend with concern.
“The doctor said that she should be fine. She overworked herself and her flu turned into pneumonia,” Max replied looking up at Rei sadly, “She’s still really bad but the doctor’s think she’ll get better. Dad said that when she gets out of the hospital he’s going to take her on vacation to somewhere warm like Hawaii.”
“That’s good your mum and dad do need some quality alone time,” Rei said nodding his approval.
“Yeah well it’s a good idea and all but what’s mum going to do about the lab. She just can’t put her experiment on hold,” Max said worriedly.
“Hmm. Maybe we could take over. After all it does concern us and we sort of know what she’s trying to do,” Rei said looking down at his now empty plate of pancakes wondering where half of it had gone.
“We could,” Max said pushing his empty plate away slightly so he could lean on the table.
“We could help. If you need it that is,” Oliver offered.
“We may actually need it. I’ve seen people frightened of needles but Rei takes the cake but I can’t really blame him,” Max said.
“You mean I have to have more,” Rei whined at Max.
Max nodded his head and said, “Yes but only a few.”
“No,” Rei said crossing his arms across his chest and sticking his nose in the air, “I won’t do it.”
“But Rei don’t you do surgery?” Kai asked bewildered.
“I get the nurses to handle the needles,” Rei said grinning sheepishly.
Kai smiled and shook his head.
“Look,” Tyson said, “Sourpuss just smiled.”
Kai glared at Tyson who looked back unfazed.
To stop Kai glaring Rei pulled the bluenette into a kiss.
It was a short one but it still left Rei tingling all over.
