Hope Arrives

“Have a little hope Tyson. They’ll find a cure,” Max said comfortingly as he climbed out of the car.
Mr. Dickensen had arrived at the hotel and picked them up taking them to the hospital.
“I do have hope,” Tyson said adamantly as he climbed out after Max.
Kennylowelowed then Mr. Dickensen.
Hearing the whirring of a helicopter Mr. Dickensen looked up to see a white helicopter, with the blue symbol of the Health Department on the side, heading for the roof of the hospital.
“You lot head up to Rei’s room. I have something to do first,” Mr. Dickensen said headior tor the elevator of the opposite winglimblimbing in he pushed the button for the fourth floor.
The elevator stopped at the third floor and Mr. Dickensen saw Dr. Candide enter a manila folder under his arm.
“Dr. Candide my name is Mr. Dickensen we met on the phone,” Mr. Dickensen said extending his hand.
Dr. Candide took it smiling.
“It ple pleasure. I’m gathering you saw the helicopter,” Dr. Candide saoppiopping off the elevator.
Mr. Dickensen followed and the two walked to the end of the hall and up the stairs to the roof.
The helicopter was just being signaled in for a landing.
When it touched down the door opened a 19-year-old girl exited carrying a backpack. She kept low to avoid the rotor blades, her lab coat being blown around revealing a white blouse and a short tan skirt. Her long brown braid was whipping around her body.
She ran over to where Dr. Candide and Mr. Dickensen were waiting.
The three entered the building and headed downstairs.
“How is he?” the girl asked as salkealked briskly beside Dr. Candide
“Not good,” Dr. Candide said handing the folder over, “He won’t stop vomiting, at this rate he’ll lose to many body fluids.”
The girl nodded as she opened the file and read through the symptoms, his heart rate and temperature.
By this time they had come to the ward Rei was in.
The girl followed them down the hall shaking her head then stopped dead in her tracks as she read the blood test results.
“Now that is alarming?” she said looking at Dr. Candide.
“Yes I know,” Dr Candide replied.
“What is alarming?” Mr. Dickensen asked.
“Well I had Rei tested for Diabetes but it came back negative. The alarming thing is that his white blood cell count is abnormally high,” the girl replied.
The girl walked into Dr. Candide’s office and placed her backpack on his desk then pulling out her name tag she clipped it to her coat then she pulled out her stethoscope and flung it around her neck.
The three then headed down to Rei’s room.
Kai sat by the bedside watching over Rei protectively.
Kenny, Max and Tyson watched from their vantage points worriedly.
When the three entered Kai looked up.
“Boys this is Dr. Hope Romanova shebe tbe taking Rei’s case from now on,” Dr. Candide said introducing Dr. Romanova.
Kai eyed Dr. Romanova suspiciously, “Aren’t you a little young to be a doctor?”
“Excellence knows no age,” Dr. Romanova said walking up to Rei and picking up the clipboard at the end of the bed.
Then walking up to Rei’s side, opposite Kai. She listened to his heart.
Writing down something on the clipboard she looked up to find Kai glaring at her.
“Can I talk to you outside?” she asked Kai.
Kai just grunted and got up.
“I’ll leave you to it,” Dr. Candide said walking off.
Dr. Romanova led Kai out of the room and turned to him.
“Look I know I’m young and all but I know what I’m doing. I graduated top of my class from high school when I was fifteen and graduated from University with honours. Right now I’m the only one who can help Rei. Flying in another specialist will take ten hours. Rei doesn’t have that long. So please just let me do my stuff,” Dr. Romanova said to him.
Kai looked at her and let a tear fall down his face before quickly wiping it away.
“I’m sorry, I’m just so worried about him,” Kai whispered.
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll work around the clock and I give my word of honour that Rei’ll be up and about in I don’t know say four days,” Dr. Romanova said.
Kai looked at her and grinned.
“You better keep your promise,” Kai said walking back into the room.
“Always do,” Dr. Romanova replied.
Kai took his seat back next to Rei while Dr. Romanova coued ued to examine Rei.
During her examination Rei jolted up and vomited. Lucky Kai was quick enough and had the bowl there before Rei could vomit in his lap.
When Rei had finished vomiting Rei fell back against the bed’s pillows.
Dr. Romanova noticed the report had said Rei’s skin had been very pale and looked washed out but now it was also cold and clammy.
The muscles in Rei’s hand and feet were twitching constantly.
Dr. Romanova produced a small flashlight from her coat pocket and lifted one of Rei’s eyelids. Dr. Romanova discovered that Rei’s pupil had narrowed to a tiny speck. Looking at the other eye she found the same thing.
She put the flashlight away and pulled the sheets back.
She started at his chest and applied a little pressure to vital places. She had no reaction until she applied light pressure to Rei’s stomach.
Rei sat up and screamed in agony frightening the life outKennKenny, Max and Tyson.
Dr. Romanova acedaced the sheets and picked up the clipboard.
Kai pushed Rei’s fringe out of his face in hope of calming the now whimpering boy.
Dr. Romanova wrote a few things down then looked up and studied Rei before writing again.
Dr. Romanova pulled the piece of paper she had been writing on out of the clip and put the clipboard back on the end of the bed.
“He’s obviously gotten worse since he was first admitted but I have to admit this has got me stumped. I can’t begin to think of what caused it,” Dr. Romanova said.
Kai looked at her, hurt and sadness clouding his eyes.
“But I won’t give up,” Dr. Romanova said firmly and spun around and headed out of the room.

Okay there we go. Sorry if the medical stuff gets a bit confusing. Trust me its harder reading it from a medical textbook. Too many big, fancy words. Yuck.
Please review and tell me what you think. There is probably about two or three more chapters left… I think.
