Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Making deals with a stranger
Trunks walked directly to the silent couple, one reading and the other just meditating. “Hi, Trunks.” Damian said, not leaving his eyes from the book. “How did you know if you’re not seeing me?” he asked, as an excuse to make a conversation. It worked sometimes with Vegeta, so why this time will be different? “I can smell you, mommy can do that too.” He explained. “And how did I smell, may I ask.” He knew about the mammals that can recognize other with the smell, but never talked about it with someone that can use it. “I don’t know, like an earthling I guess.” Answered the boy, didn’t linking the boys presence. “You can do that too.” Answered Mayling, still in her meditation, eyes still closed. “You are half-saiyan, right? Then you can do it.” She answered simple, like he should know it. “And how did you know that?!” he asked completely surprised, and at the same time annoyed. How an some one who didn’t want to tell anything about it’s past can know almost everything about him, without saying a word.
“First, I’ve been breeding a saiyan for almost all my life, because as you could see the other day, Sheera is a saiyan. Second, I can read minds, and I know that your father’s name is Vegeta and he as the prince of saiyans, so it was obvious that you must be half-breed. And third but not less important, your mother mentioned it to my son and to me, but I already confirmed with your transformation the other day while you were in the tank. You became blond, a sign of a saiyan transformation. Anything else?” She ended and continued silent, in her meditation. Trunks fall in the ground, not yet believing that he just heard. She knew more about him that he expected. And he didn’t know a word about her race or the reason that al this is happening.
It was official; he’s not going to college today and better stay and knows better his guests. Or let’s say in the true way, his ‘forced guests’. From the window of Capsule Corp. it was Bulma, smiling at the scene that was taking place n the garden. She never saw her son so interested in something else than training, his dead father or keep remembering the past. It was part good, but then she got worried about what happens if those tow at the end are enemies or it ends in a way that she didn’t expected. But again, she is Bulma Briefs, the adventurous girl who along with Goku, went to search of the dragonballs a long time ago, had an affair with their enemy, Vegeta and had a son with him. This time it wasn’t going to change.
Then, when she thought that his training days were over, she was wrong, she stop seeing them for 5 seconds and when she turned again to see, they were sparing, Trunks getting the worst part. Damian was hitting him hard and more than a time he had the saiyan asking for time to recover. The kid was glad to spar with a male, but at the same time disappointed because he was not enough for him. The woman stood in the garden, meditating, no matter that more than once, Trunks nearly hit her, and she just moved her head a side and continues her meditation without opening her eyes. “You’re quite slow, please can you be faster?” complained the pink boy. “As you wish.” Answered Trunks, turning into Super Saiyan. “Wow, just like Sheera! Look mommy!” and when the woman looked at him, she got surprised and immediately hit down Trunks. “What does that mean? We were just sparing, I wasn’t going to hurt you or go beyond.”
He landed in the floor, touching his cheek, which was completely red, for the pounce and for the embarrassment. “When Sheera turns like that, she looses control. I though that it will happen the same in you.” She answered, with not complaining. “Do you mean that Sheera is a super saiyan?” he stood up, hoping to know that what he just heard came from his imagination. “Yes. Why did you ask? Does a woman can’t do that?” she asked wondered. “NO…is not that. Is just that Sheera is the first saiyan woman that I know...” He though to himself, now that he knows that something like Broly would happen again.
“Did you still want to spar?” the child asked, he didn’t felt comfortable with the scene that the human and his mother were doing. “Yeah, sure. But I need the promise of your mother to talk about this a little bit longer later.” “When.” She asked, with no intonation. “Like after lunch, so we can talk better, with full stomach.” After they agreed, the saiyan continued the spar thing with Damian, forgetting today’s lessons.
After lunch, where the female again was outside looking at the sky, and this time Trunks didn’t tease her. He came to her and decided to know more about how much she knows about him and how much he can lean from her. “Ok, tell me what you want to know.” She asked without looking at him. he asked to himself, hoping that she did not read that part. “I don’t read minds unless necessary. I only do that when you were not conscious to know if you were in your mind or not. You mentioned your parents many times, so I know who are they now.” She said without waiting for his question. “Now I have a request for you. I need you to train me, to show me all those things that I should know as a saiyan. Like to know how to smell, how to feel the presence of others without chi. All that.”
“And what can I get in return?” she asked again, surprising the young one. “I promise you my loyalty, my friendship.” “That’s something that should not be promised or sold, but I train you anyway. In the end, you would hate so much that you will want my dead in your bare hands. But I have my conditions.” “Spill it out.” Responded Trunks, a little surprising himself of how fast this was going. “Number one. Do not interfere with my fights against Sheera and Merie. Second, do not disturb me. If you see me alone, leave me alone. And third, never trust me; I don’t have a side, understand?” he didn’t know what to say, never trust in her? She was going to be his master, and ask for not trust?! But he had to promise it, she was quite clever and pride to see and he felt like a challenge, the type that even Goku or Vegeta would never regret. “I accept, is a deal.” He takes her hand to shake it, but she retires it. “Don’t touch me. This kind of contacts is for people of my clan, and you’re not part of it.” And then, she turns her back. “We can start now, come.” She flies away, leaving him not choice but follow her.
They landed in a valley out of the city, about 100 miles from Chi-chi’s house. When he just put his feet into the floor, she attacked him, making fall into the ground with great pain in his guts. He protested, but soon he catches her way of training, and continues attacking her. He never hits her, but he feels how he was becoming stronger, giving all he have in the battle, without being hurt, and he liked it. Trunks didn’t know how much time he was there, in the valley with the woman, but he noticed when it was almost completely dark. Suddenly, the woman stops the fighting. “Is been almost 10 hours human, you should go back to your home.” She said before walking away. “And what are you going to now, huh?” he asked, seeing that she was going in the opposite direction. “Continuing training, what else.” She ended, but then the young saiyan steps in front of her. “Hey, I know that in our deal is that I must not interfere in your things and leave you alone. But, what about your son? He is going to miss you and…you know. I promise that tomorrow I’ll leave earlier and you’ll have your training time, without worrying the kid about you being outside at this time.” his thought were flying miles away, forgetting that she was in front of him, looking at him talking to himself.
“Everything’s ok? You look distant.” “Sure. Don’t worry. I was just thinking in some duties.” “And don’t worry about my son. He knows me; he knows that I’ll never leave him. I’ll be back before sunrise.” Then she disappears, leaving him alone, still thinking.
When he returns home, he notices that he can’t hear the child everywhere. When he enters silently into the house, Bulma was in the living room, just writing some of her work. “Mum, where is the brat?” asked Trunks in a low tone, avoiding scaring his mother. “Who? Oh, you mean Damian. He is sleeping in the room that I fixed for them. He says that she will back soon, so he decided to sleep. Is a good child, he didn’t give any problem.” Trunks looked a little surprised, but he frowned as he analyzes the situation. “I see. Maybe he knows how she is and is not surprised that she is still outside at this time. But as a mother she must be more responsible and…” “But she is his mother. The kind of life that they had all this years is nothing compared to the one that we had, son. She is a warrior, maybe more arrogant than Vegeta. And right now, they are facing enemies that once were part of their family. Is tough, very tough.” Said Bulma, not stopping writing the papers.
“And how do you know all that. Did the boy tell you?” Asked the young saiyan. “Well, he told me that he can trust me a little bit because his mother leave him with me without ask, so be it. If they don’t trust us son, she will never leave you train with her until this time of night, and without a scratch.” Ended Bulma, this time looking at Trunks. “Maybe with a little effort from you, she can see you as a warrior, not a normal man, ok?” “Like I wanted her to see me like one.” Ended the young man while leaving to his room. “I know my own son, and I know when his pride is hurt…for the same reason of his father’s.” said the mother in the distance, while Trunks was cursing himself for not having arguments to deny that one. Does Bulma was right? Did Mayling hurt his pride? On the other hand, there was some part of the story that no one told him yet?
All this questions were on the warriors mind while, he was still in his bedroom, sitting in front the window, waiting for the sunrise….
