Rinsing the hand towel once more in the cabin’s tiny
bathroom sink Bulma returned to Vegeta’s bedside, using the cool damp towel to
sooth his fevered body as best she could. Vegeta was still unconscious, but at
least he seemed to be breathing normally now. Bulma just couldn’t imagine how
Vegeta had been captured.… Other than the two surgical sites there were no
obvious signs of trauma anywhere on his body. It just didn’t make any sense!
As she brought the towel back to Vegeta’s forehead she
was startled to see that his eyes were open and looking at her. “V-Vegeta?”
she whispered, but he did not answer or move, only continued to stare at her.
“Vegeta, can you hear me?” she asked. Vegeta blinked his eyes hard one time.
“You can hear me but you can’t talk… or move?” Another hard blink
answered her and then Vegeta seemed to be trying to see where they were. Bulma
guessed what he wanted and told him what little she could about where they were
and how they got there.
When she told Vegeta about Brietoth taking Trunks away
Vegeta’s shoulders convulsed as he tried to force movement on his unwilling
body. Waves of pain shot thru his head and spine bringing him close to blacking
out again. Brietoth had his son and there was nothing he could do about it.
Bulma tried to get Vegeta to settle down, not to cause
himself more pain. She finally told him that he’d been operated on but that
Brietoth had said that he’d be ‘functional’ soon. Vegeta knew all about
the surgery – he’d been completely awake and aware while his back had been
cut open. It wasn’t until they’d begun to drill into his skull that he had
finally passed out.
Vegeta closed his eyes, that monster had his son. Tears
Vegeta could neither stop nor wipe away began leaking as Bulma sat with her arms
draped over his shoulders. Slowly the world around him began to fade to black
once more, taking with it all pain and frustration.

When Goku appeared on Master Roshi’s island he knew there
wasn’t going to be a lot of time for explanations.
“Krillin!” he shouted, running up to where his friend
sat on a beach chair watching the sunset. “There’s trouble and I need your
help! Bulma, Trunks and Vegeta have been caught by somebody and Gohan and I
can’t go near them ‘cause we’re being watched! Here’s the note that told
Vegeta where to go! Get Piccolo, and Yamacha and everybody and try to find them!
You can’t use their ki to track them ‘cause something is blocking it! I need you to
find them! I gotta go before they figure out about my instant transmission
technique!”
After spilling his message out in a mad dash, Goku again
placed his fingers to his forehead, waved to Master Roshi as he came out of his
house and disappeared from in front of the astounded Krillin.
“Hey Goku!” called Roshi, but Goku was already gone.
“Well now, what was that all about?” he asked as Krillin pushed past him on
his way to the house.
“Come on! You’re not gonna believe this…”

From her Observation Center Commander Brietoth had viewed
the ‘conversation’ between Vegeta and Bulma impassively, turning from that
screen to examine the readouts flashing across the series of terminals nearby
she smiled. Vegeta’s implants would soon have collected enough data for her to
begin the calibration sequence. Her smile broadened as she pictured her proud
little prince begging to cooperate with her research.
Once he’d had the proper attitude adjustments that
pathetic human hostage could be eliminated. As she thought about her hostages
she considered the unexpected difficulties presented by the Saiyan infant. The
original crewman assigned to its maintenance had requested an aide after less
than an hour of duty. The tiny thing was noisy, destructive and due to its age,
impossible to reason with – all things considered the child was quite similar,
behaviorally speaking, to its father. Brietoth laughed at her comparison. At
least the diaper issue was one problem Vegeta did not also present; perhaps she
should drop the nasty little thing off with the other Saiyans until it got out
of diapers.
The OC acted more or less as Brietoth’s office and
refuge. With its walls of computer terminals and view screens she could conduct
all but the most ‘hands on’ aspects of her varied research activities.
Additionally, at any time of the night or day, she could also observe her crew
as they went about their own insignificant lives aboard ship.
How limited they all were, both in their day-to-day
thoughts and in their plans for the future. They would live and die in what she
could only consider a moment of time and yet they saw themselves as so
important, so vital to the world around them. Such were the limitations of
beings whose sole existence begins and ends within the life span of a single
body. Trapped within a living shell, condemned to all of its weaknesses and
inadequacies.
Brietoth could not remember the number of bodies she had
held. Though she was currently female, she had also been male, and even a few
things less limited in definition. A pleasant exterior was a definite benefit
but her main objectives in choosing a body had always been durability, basic
mental aptitude and the manual dexterity to support her continued research.
Her early research on the child Vegeta had been quite
promising. It was truly a shame that the Saiyan race had been destroyed.
Somewhere in their number, she was certain, she would eventually have found the
correct combination of desirable traits for her to take a new form with the
added benefits of saiyan strength and their extended lifespan. Just one of the
many things she had Frieza to ‘thank’ for. Too bad none of the Saiyans on
this planet completely met her needs but, of course, there were always the
potential prospects to be found in future generations of Saiyans born to this
world – that is if she decided to permit those currently in existence to
continue to independently breed...
Brietoth’s musings were interrupted by the entrance of
her second in command, “Commander, no internal errors were located during the
diagnostic of the tracking system. The only explanation suggested by the techs
were that residual energy from the Saiyan’s breech of the hull might have
caused a surge in the tracking system resulting in one of the targets temporary
disappearance from the system. There have been no further malfunctions in the
system.”
“I see. Have our targets left the vicinity of their
mountain since our equipment problem?” The officer shook his head. “Settled
for the night are they? Good for them. Now, how is our youngest guest doing?”
inquired the commander, still thinking of the problems the infant presented.
“Vaner has taken over its care – it seems he’s had
experience with this type of thing with his own younger siblings, although I
doubt any of them ever knocked holes in walls during *their* tantrums.”
“Probably not,” laughed the commander. “I’ll be
ready for the infant's procedure tomorrow about noon. Have Dr. Amberge prepare
the lab and sedate the child before I arrive.” Dismissing the officer with a
wave of her hand, Brietoth returned her attention to the readouts and view
screens.
“Yes, sir!” saluted the officer before leaving the
room.

Vegeta could feel Bulma’s head resting on his lower back,
her warm breath puffing over his bare skin. He could feel the texture of the
shorts he wore and even the nap of the blanket beneath him but still his limbs
remained unresponsive. He concentrated on moving something, anything… but the
first thing he successfully did was cough – a lot.
Bulma jumped off the bed when Vegeta began to cough. It was
the first sound other than her own voice that she had heard in hours. “Vegeta
are you OK?” As Vegeta coughed he pulled his legs up and brought his arms
weakly to his chest. Bulma filled a cup of water and waited for the spasm of
coughing to slow.
Vegeta had never felt so weak; he tried to push himself
into a sitting position, but without Bulma’s constant support could not have
done so. He sipped from the cup Bulma held to his lips and cleared his throat
again before he tried to speak, “…got to get out of here…” was all he
managed, the effort of even so little movement exhausting him.

Alerted to Vegeta’s movement by feedback from his
implants, Brietoth returned to the OC to watch Vegeta’s feeble attempts to sit
upright. Glancing over the collected data she decided that enough information
had been collected to allow for brief visit with her little Saiyan Prince.

Vegeta leaned against Bulma’s shoulder and waited as his
energy slowly increased. His limbs still felt leaden, not completely responsive
to his will but at least he could move them a little. As Vegeta attempted to
push away from Bulma and sit unassisted, the door to their cabin slid open.
Growling deep in his throat, Vegeta glared at the monster that appeared in the
doorway.
Commander Brietoth strolled into the room as if she were
wandering through a museum. She looked at the walls, through the only other door
into the tiny bathroom and
finally brought her gaze to the bed where Bulma and Vegeta sat.
“Still feeling a bit under the weather are you, Vegeta?
That’s to be expected at this stage. The drug you received will make sure you
aren’t too terribly active until you’ve had sufficient time to heal. And
you, Bulma, how have you enjoyed your stay?”
The door stood open onto an empty corridor behind the
Commander. Bulma was not a warrior but she recognized an opportunity when she
saw one and sprang towards the woman fully intending to knock the crap out of
her and escape with Vegeta to find her son. By the time Vegeta realized what was
happening it was already too late.
Bulma may not have been a warrior but Brietoth certainly
was and she was also far from the weakling ningen Bulma had assumed. With one
slam of her inhuman fist Bulma was sliding down the cabin wall barely conscious.
Vegeta struggled to his feet, moving towards Brietoth with death in his eyes –
if only he could get a hand on the monster he’d find a way to kill it. The
commander simply stood there allowing Vegeta to approach.
Suddenly sharp lances of pain shot thru Vegeta’s head and
he crumpled to the ground in agony. “You are mine, Vegeta. You live or die at
my whim. I control your pain and your pleasure. Now behave yourself before, once
again, your family must pay the price for your misbehavior.” The commander
approached Vegeta and bent low to gently stroke the side of his face.
Vegeta lay curled into a ball on the floor, his extreme
pain the only thing he could think of. “I believe you may be ready to behave
now. I’ll eliminate your pain for the moment.” As Brietoth stood to gloat
over Vegeta, the pain vanished as quickly as it had appeared but Vegeta was
unable to do more than push himself up onto his elbows.
“Return the brat to his mother, Brietoth” Vegeta
managed to growl.
“Aa-aa-ah,” Brietoth scolded, “I thought I had made
it clear that you were in no position to be making demands? All right then, my
little one; if you are so inured to pain perhaps something else will convince
you of your true situation. Your implants are not yet fully aligned to your
system, but I thinks the results will be worthwhile.”
Again it seemed as though the commander did nothing but
Vegeta began to feel strange, his anger fading. In fact, he happily discovered,
he felt great! He lay on his back and smiled up at Brietoth. Vegeta began to
laugh at the way the lights sparkled in her hair. Even his own hands seemed to
hold a strong fascination for him.
Bulma was brought to full consciousness by the unexpected
sound of Vegeta’s joyful voice. Something was very wrong: Vegeta never laughed
like that. She forced herself to move towards her husband where he lay at
Brietoth’s feet. Catching sight of the human's movement, the commander
directed her comments to Bulma.
“From the deepest pits of despair to the absolute heights
of euphoria - he is mine. I control the full spectrum of his physical and
emotional responses. No drug-induced intoxication could make him more my
creature than he is right now. I rather suspect that when I release him this
time he may actually wish I had given him more pain. What do you think?”
Bulma wasted no words on the bitch, as she had reached
Vegeta side and he was ecstatic to see her. Kissing and licking her hands as if
she were coated in the most delicious confection known to man.
“I suggest you encourage him to cooperate Bulma, for your
own sake as well as his. Just imagine how he would feel if he should happen to
tear you apart in blind rage... or something.” Smiling brightly Brietoth left
the cabin, the door sliding shut behind her.
