The Long Kiss Goodbye
The Long Kiss Goodbye
Edward made a quick pit stop by the coffee bar before going to his office. Lt. Havoc was there with his perpetual cigarette dangling from his lips pouring himself a refill. He made no comment as Edward poured himself a mug of the strong dark coffee.
As Havoc was adding cream and sugar to his cup, Edward took a long drink from his mug.
“You like it straight?” Havoc asked surprised.
“I like my coffee like I like my women, dark and bitter,” Edward quipped as he departed leaving Havoc standing there open-mouthed in shock.
Edward unlocked his office, which looked more like a combined conference room and library than a standard office, and put his mug down on the table as far from his sprawled out papers as possible. He ditched his red Alchemist coat and black jacket on a nearby chair and preceded to return to deciphering the complex sigils on the old scroll he had laid out on the table. Edward had a feeling mastering the Scrying Array could prove useful in the future and he was determined to make sense of the circle before him. Much of it he comprehended but the finer details were elusive. Edward intended to know exactly how to cast this circle before his butt went on that train. He had a nagging feeling he would need the information he could gather via the use of this circle on their upcoming mission. Edward focused all of his mental energy on mastering the complex array.
Time passed. Edward was so intent on his research that his brain barely registered the sound of his door opening and then clicking shut and locked. It was the locked part that caught his attention and he turned to see who had just shuttered him into his office. It was the Colonel and he quietly approached Edward.
“Curious to see what has been absorbing my complete attention for the past few weeks?” Edward asked him.
Mustang surveyed the organized chaos that was Edward Elric’s office and said, “Well, yes, and I did want to say goodbye to you.”
Edward got up and shifted a few things around to give the scroll with the Scrying Array on it a clear view from all sides. Mustang joined him and examined the ancient scroll. It had been a long time since he had seen a Scrying Array. Not since he had trained with Obaba had he done any workings of this kind.
“Where did you get this?” the Colonel asked.
“It was part of a box of books and stuff that was anonymously donated to the State Alchemist Library,” Edward told him. “Al and I stumbled across this when we were trying to dig up more clues about the Philosopher’s Stone.”
“And you think knowing how to scry could help you find the Stone?”
Edward looked at him. “Maybe, but even if it can’t knowing how to do this could easily be filed in the “good to know” cabinet.”
“Can you use this array?”
“Haven’t tried it yet but I think I could get it to work,” Edward said. “If you’d like to see a demonstration-”
“Use this,” Mustang interrupted handing Edward a money clip. “Hughes accidentally left it at the O Club the other night.”
“How much do you want to bet when we see him he’s blathering to yet another unsuspecting soul about his daughter?” Edward asked with a wicked grin as he placed the money clip in the center of the circle.
Mustang chuckled. “He’s lucky my powers don’t work through phone lines.”
Edward snickered. “When we can overcome THAT small encumbrance Hughes is so doomed!”
“Guess that will be your next research project.”
“If you choose to endorse it.”
Mustang shook his head chuckling softly. “No, I am not going to have you find a way for me to singe my best friend.”
Edward grinned. “Although there are times when he deserves it.”
“There are times when YOU deserve it!”
“True.” Edward agreed. Both men exchanged a meaningful look and, changing the subject, Edward asked, “Want to help me fire this up?”
Mustang raised an eyebrow remarking, “Nice turn of phrase Fullmetal.”
Edward grinned wickedly. “Well?”
The Colonel nodded and both Alchemists working together activated the ancient Array. From the center of the circle emanating from the money clip itself came a twist of air that looked like a small tornado. It was a whirl of color and sound and as slowed an image appeared in the hazy air. It was Hughes and, as usual, he was on the phone. However, he was NOT talking about his daughter, which surprised them both. The three dimensional picture was fairly clear and they could just about make out what he was saying but it was not nearly as perfect as the image they had seen earlier using the Iserlohnn disk.
“Guess I haven’t quite got the hang of this,” Edward conceded.
“No, it isn’t you, Ed,” the Colonel said. “It’s that.” He indicated the money clip and added, “How good a fix you get on your subject depends on what item of theirs you use to seek them out. The stronger the connection the object has to the person, the clearer the image is. Maes uses this money clip almost every day but I think if we had put his wedding ring in the center of this circle the image would have been picture perfect.”
Edward nodded his understanding commenting, “So you do know about Scrying after all.”
Mustang sighed. “This takes me back. WAY back,” he admitted. His eyes met Edward’s and he queried, “Did Izumi ever teach you any of this old stuff?”
Edward shook his head. “No, her training had been as much physical as it was scholastic. Train the body; train the mind was her philosophy. She gave me a love for learning, that much I can attribute to her teaching, but digging through musty old tomes for clues is just Edward Elric’s own insatiable curiosity at work.”
“Are you ready to go?”
“Yes, I just need to gather up a couple of things.” Edward glanced at his watch. He had less than an hour and the train station wasn’t exactly around the corner. “I better get moving or I’ll miss the train.”
“You have almost an hour.”
“And the station is on the other side of the city. I’m good but I haven’t been able to give myself the gift of personal flight. So, until I manage that feat, I’ll have to rely on more mundane means of getting my ass to the train station.”
“I can take you.”
“Okay, so that gives me an extra, what, ten minutes?” Edward quipped.
Mustang grabbed him by the arm roughly and pulled him close. “That way I drive? More like an extra twenty.”
“Yeah, you do have lead foot, don’t you?”
Mustang silenced Edward with a long searing kiss. Edward didn’t try to escape from the Colonel’s grasp but allowed himself to be undressed and laid back on the table like a feast ready for consumption. Mustang noted the conference table Edward was lying on happened to be just the right height for what he had in mind. The young Alchemist moaned in pleasure as Mustang slipped a well-lubricated finger into his rectum and skillfully stroked the sensitive prostate in a way that was driving Edward to distraction. Edward looked like he was stoned on some serious chemicals by the time Mustang thrust his cock hard and deep into Edward’s very receptive anus.
“Are you still with us, Fullmetal?” Mustang purred as he rammed himself hard and deep into his young lover.
Edward’s only response was a loud moan as Mustang began to sensuously caress the boy’s steel hard erection for a few seconds and then gave it one quick up and down stroke. He caressed Edward again and then gave him two quick up and down strokes. More caresses then three strokes. He kept on doing this upping the strokes between each series of gentle caresses until Edward couldn’t take this mountain climb any more and was practically begging Mustang to let him cum.
Mustang paused in his satisfaction of Edward to attend to his own needs. Edward was so close he couldn’t stand it and tried to finish himself off but Mustang pinned his arms down hard and fast to the table.
“The only pleasure you’ll get is what I give you,” Mustang told him as he continued to hold Edward down, as he thrust hard and fast not stopping until he climaxed spilling his hot seed inside the young Alchemist.
“Bastard,” Edward breathed sweat making his hard body glisten in the office’s harsh artificial light.
Mustang leaned over Edward liking the sensation of Edward’s rock hard member stabbing him in the abdomen and he teased the shoulder where Auto-mail met flesh. The combination of the movements of the Colonel’s body as he maneuvered himself around so he could kiss, lick and suck the nerve rich areas around Edward Auto-mail connections and Mustang’s skilled mouth on his sensitive body were enough to bring Edward to blissful release. He knew Mustang would bitch about Edward being responsible for sending yet another suit to the dry cleaners but he deserved it for tormenting him this way. The Colonel was fond of making Edward “earn” pleasure and, although what he chose to do each time to make him earn it was always pure heaven, it sometimes got a little annoying. Especially when Edward didn’t have the luxury of time to spend on all the extended foreplay.
When the blood flow returned to Edward’s brain he said, “Roy, I’m going to miss my train.”
“No, you won’t.” the Colonel assured him as he released his grip on the young Alchemist and allowed Edward to sit up. “Get cleaned up, get your things and meet me at my car.”
“You are going out like THAT?”
Mustang noticed the mess on the front of his jacket and yanked it off angrily stating, “That is the second jacket you ruined this week!”
“Well, if you bothered to take it off BEFORE we-”
He threw Edward’s shirt at him snapping, “Shut up and get dressed. You have ten minutes.” And with that he was gone.
“Bastard,” Edward muttered to himself as he quickly gathered up his scattered clothing and hastily dressed himself. He grabbed his journal in which he had transcribed the Scrying Arrays and notes on their use and dashed out the door at a trot. By the time he was out the main door of Central Headquarters he saw Mustang’s car idling by the entrance to the main gate. Edward sprinted for the car and practically leaped into the passenger seat beside the Colonel.
“Nine minutes and fifty-two seconds,” the Colonel stated as he snapped closed his silver pocket watch. “Impressive.”
Edward glared at him. “Just drive.”
Mustang snickered and they sped off for the train station. Edward said nothing the whole way there. He just stared out the window inwardly fuming. Why was he still with this guy who alternated between treating him like a treasured possession and a portable fuck toy depending on the vagaries of his moods? You are with him because no one else would put up with your shit, a voice inside Edward stated flatly. Even your own brother can’t deal with you sometimes, the voice continued. If Alphonse didn’t have the patience of a saint you would have been left on your own ages ago….
By the time they got to the train station Edward’s bad mood had passed. He was such a load of emotional baggage he was lucky ANYBODY wanted to be a part of his life. He sighed heavily and smiled slightly when he felt the Colonel’s hand gently caressing his cheek.
“You be careful out there,” Mustang admonished gently.
Edward nodded. “Thanks. I will. I promise.”
Both of them wanted to embrace each other but knew they couldn’t, not with all the people around who could clearly see them. Edward got out of the car and waved goodbye before heading to the platform where he was to meet up with Tenshi and his brother.
Tenshi spotted Edward first and waved excited at him. Edward waved back and sprinted over to the little Alchemist and Alphonse.
“Edo-Sempai!” Tenshi greeted. “You got here just in time!”
“Where were you?” Alphonse asked.
“Getting this together,” Edward said holding up his journal. “Finally finished transcribed all the notes on Scrying Arrays. Actually got one up and working too.”
“This wasn’t the time to do that brother,” Alphonse admonished. “You could have missed the train.”
“Sorry,” Edward said blushing a bit. “But you know how I get sometimes when I have an idea in my head.”
“There you are!” Dr. Seris Ferguson stated looking a bit perturbed. “I was looking all over for you!”
“Al and I planned to meet here all along,” Edward told her. “You could have saved yourself the bother and stayed here with him.”
“How did you get here?” she asked.
“The Colonel gave me a ride.”
“He did?” Tenshi queried surprised.
Edward nodded and Alphonse asked, “How did that happen?”
“He stopped by to check up and me and saw I was running a little late so he volunteered to take me here,” Edward explained. “Guess he felt guilty since it was his fault I got behind schedule.”
“How was it his fault?” Alphonse wanted to know.
Edward’s blush deepened. He couldn’t tell him the REAL reason but the secondary one was more than believable. “Well, he wanted to see a demonstration of the Scrying Array. We used it to see what Lt. Colonel Hughes was up to.”
“Really?” Alphonse cried his interest piqued.
“It wasn’t as good as the Iserlohnn disk but we saw and heard him clearly enough to know he WASN’T talking about Alicia for a change!”
The three boys all laughed at that but their conversation was cut short by the loud whistle of the train slicing though the air. It was the signal to board and Edward led the way searching for the car they were supposed to be on. The conductor punched their tickets before they stepped aboard and their group garnered a few curious stares from passengers and train crew alike. Edward ignored the looks as he led the way to their seats happy to see their compartment was a private one and that the window on the door could actually shuttered for additional privacy.
“These seats weren’t cheap,” observed Tenshi who luxuriated on the upholstered couch that faced forward. “Its so comfortable!”
The similar couch that faced backward was where Edward and Alphonse took their places. Al took the window section and Edward sprawled out beside him using Al’s steel shoulder as a backrest and stretching out his booted legs. He had room to spare on the couch but it wasn’t quite enough for Seris to sit comfortably so she took a place on the couch next to Tenshi. Even with Tenshi splayed all over the seat Series still had plenty of room to relax. Sharing a seat with him was like sharing one with a child except, unlike a child, Tenshi would actually not annoy her for the next twenty or so hours.
Edward closed his eyes. His body usually craved a nap after lovemaking and now was no exception. He turned his face away from everyone and with his nose into the back of the sofa he drifted off to sleep. Alphonse noted Edward’s soft rhythmic breathing and realized he was out cold. He glanced over at his brother puzzled. How he went from wide-awake and bouncing to unconscious in what seemed like a handful of minutes was a mystery. Then again, Alphonse recalled, Edward never did get a chance to consume his usual AM cup of coffee. Edward by his own admission was useless in the morning until he downed at least one cup of the base’s nerve jangling Joe.
“Edo-kun is sleeping?” Tenshi whispered.
Alphonse nodded. “He didn’t have any coffee today.”
Tenshi giggled. “Guess I might as well sleep too. Everything I need to do I need Edo-Sempai to help me with so I will sleep and wake up when he does.”
The Doctor looked over at the sleeping Alchemist and asked, “Does he ever get to bed at a reasonable hour?”
“Sometimes,” Alphonse replied.
“Who takes care of you boys? The Colonel?”
“Um, we take care of ourselves, although Lt. Ross looks in on us a lot,” Alphonse allowed. “She is part of the Colonel’s regiment.”
“Children need an adult to look out for them,” she stated.
Alphonse almost started to cry with joy. It had been a long time since anyone called him a child since he got into that suit of armor. He knew Edward hated it when anyone referred to him as a child and Al was glad Edward was asleep and not hearing this conversation. Alphonse could enjoy being thought of as the kid he knew he was without Edward ruining it for him.
“Thank you!” Alphonse cried happily.
“For what?”
“It’s been a long time since anyone referred to me as a child!” he stated. “Everyone always thinks there’s a grown-up in this armor!”
Seris sighed. “I know you’re only fifteen,” she said. “At least YOU admit you are young and in need of looking out for.”
“Um, well, I guess. But Ed isn’t a kid and don’t call him one. He is as grown up as you are. He may not look it on the outside but in here-” Alphonse said touching the armor where his heart should be, “He is very much an adult.”
Seris nodded her understanding. Mustang had told her as much. Certain circumstances in his life had forced Edward Elric to grow up in a hurry. Now after four years in the State Army he was as much a man as any of the other soldiers he worked with. But as she watched him sleep snuggled between the couch and his brother, Edward looked like a little boy trying very hard to play grown-up.
