Ch. 4
Ch.4
“Well, what are you waiting for? Go on in” Une urged as she gently pushed Duo towards the huge mahogany doors. Duo looked at the door handle, turned the knob, and went in.
What he saw was the largest office he had ever seen. It was three times the size of his old apartment! At the end of the room, was a huge wall of glass, more than likely one of the many windows that faced the city, but unobstructed. There was a huge desk there as well, and at that desk sat a rather distinguished man, with ginger-colored hair.
Duo stopped in the middle of the room, nervous to go any further.
This guy is like super-rich! Man, how can I be able to even be in the same room as he? I wonder what he would want with a bum like me.
The man smiled at Duo, and stood up, walking around to the front of the desk. “Come closer, Duo; don’t be shy.” He walked closer, and he got a better look at the man’s face. He had noticed the hair when he walked in, but now he got a good look at his eyes. They were a pretty blue, and looked like they promised—something, he didn’t know what to make of. But yet, there was something about the man that made him a tad nervous.
Treize pointed a hand to a nearby chair. “Have a seat, and let me talk to you. I have to interview you, you know.” Duo sat down in the chair; Treize sat in the chair next to him. “Hello, Mr. Maxwell, I’m Trieze Khushrenada, the president of this company of course.”
“I gotta ask you something, Mr.—““—Please, just call me Treize.”
“—Trieze… I’ve heard of your dealings in the trading stuff, but why do you have a resort?”
“Well, I have a townhouse here in the city, but only if I’m entertaining clients. I prefer to commute back and forth from my estate about an hour from here. It’s about 500 acres or so, and the land is simply beautiful. So why not share my appreciation of it and make money as well?”
“I gotta hand it to you, that’s pretty shrewd. Can you tell me more about it?”
“Hey, not so fast, you’re about to become one of my employers, so you’ll know all about the place in due time.” Duo was shocked. “I—I am? But don’t you have to interview me?” Trieze laughed as he casually slid his chair closer to Duo’s. “That’s what I’m doing right now. And from what I see”—and he reached out to touch his face to prove a point—“you have the right credentials to work at my resort. Well, let’s go to your new home, Duo. Besides, the contracts are at my house.”
Duo was shocked at the man’s sudden touch. But he couldn’t help but stare into his eyes. What the hell—why is he holding my face?!—and still is! Is he like my perv uncle Tubarov? He seems that way. If he is, he’s being really slick about it, but yet, he’s giving out hints.
Trieze looked into the boy’s eyes. “I’ve never seen eyes such as yours; they look like—gems, almost. I bet you attract a lot of ladies with those eyes.”
Duo couldn’t help but blush a little. “Well, not to toot my own horn, but yeah, I do get a lot of skirts with these. I’ve been told I’ve had—‘certain talents’, according to them.” Treize smirked. \'And I can’t wait to find out.\' “It’s about 4:30. Let’s go, Duo. We have to beat rush hour. You know how it is.”
“Boy, do I!? This time of the day is the worst to try to catch a cab—your fare will wind up costing you an arm and a leg by the time you get where you’re going!” Trieze laughed hard this time. “Goodness, Duo, I like you; you have a wicked sense of humor!”
They made their way to the lobby, past Lady Une. “We’re leaving for the day, Une. See you when I get back from my vacation.”
“I do hope you enjoy it, sir,” she said, bowing. “Have a great time.”
“Wow, I guess being the boss does have its advantages—you can take off anytime you feel like it.” “Yes, it does, it seems. Too bad sometimes my vacations turn into business trips.” He smiled. \'He’s gonna have fun adjusting that kid into the estate,\' Une thought.
