Chapter 4

(To recap)
“Oh...yeah, sorry.” Taka answered with a smile. “But I\'m a bit tired, think I\'ll go to bed...” he stretched and wandered into Rei\'s room where he had slept the night before.

“...” Takao looked around at his friends, and when he was certain the child had gone to bed he said, “So what do you think happened today?”

Kyouju looked up, snapping his laptop shut. “It was some sort of high wind, I do not know where it came from but it appeared seemingly out of nowhere and disappeared before I could analyze it.”

“It didn’t feel threatening though.” Hitoshi added thoughtfully. “It was calm. Not to mention the mini tornado the kid summoned up . . .I’m not even sure how that’s possible.”

“I know, and for some reason it felt...warm, and familiar...” Takao said touching his chest, “Like I had seen it all my like life...like it was my mother’s...” Takao stopped, knowing it was a sensitive subject for Hitoshi; he had been very close to her.

“Familiar yet not...” Kyouju remarked.

“Yeah, totally.” Max commented.

Rei and Kai both nodded in agreement. “It did hold a sense of familiarity, but not like something I’ve ever felt . . . it’s like it was someone else’s recognition I’d felt.” Rei added pensively. “I don’t know how to explain it.”

Shaking his head Hitoshi sat silent for a moment. “I felt drawn to it, like there was a part of me longing for it . . .it was quite an unusual sensation.”

“Hm, I can\'t help but feel that I\'ve see it once before.” Kyouju said adjusting his glasses. He looked at Dizzi, “What about you Dizzi? Did you think it was familiar?”

“Did I ever!” Dizzi said, with great enthusiasm.

“What? Really?” Takao asked.

“Well, how about all the times you call upon Dragoon Takao? I mean, you use his powers and he does use wind.” Dizzi replied.

“Why didn\'t I think of it before!?” Kyouju shouted. “Takao, it\'s was exactly like when you call Dragoon, only more powerful!”

“Watch it Kyouju, you might wake up Taka.” Max said, placing a finger on his mouth shushing him.

“Ah, sorry guys.” Kyouju said sheepishly.

“It\'s okay Kyouju.” Takao said, “If he\'s anything like me, he can sleep through a hurricane.”

“Why don\'t you go check Rei, since you\'re the quietest of all of us?” Max asked Rei.

Rei shrugged. “No problem. But I’m gonna put the cups and that away first.” He said standing and placing all the teacups on the same tray as the teapot. He got up and entered the kitchen placing the tray by the sink and then heading to the bedroom he’d been using, to check on Taka. “Are you awake Taka?” Quietly he entered the room checking to see if the boy was sleeping.

Taka was sitting on the windowsill, looking up at the sky and quietly singing to himself. He turned his head slightly when Rei open the door, but only enough for Rei to see the corner of his eye. “It\'s still pretty early eh?” he commented.

“Yes it’s just after two in the afternoon; there’s still a full day ahead.” Rei said as he came to stand beside Taka. “Whatcha looking at kiddo?”

“The sky.” Taka replied deadpan, now that Rei had come to stand beside him could see the tears that had fallen freely down the child’s face

Rei took on look at Taka’s tear streaked face and immediately pulled the boy into a warm embrace. “What’s wrong? You shouldn’t be cry, you should be happy and be smiling.”

“I\'m sorry, I just...miss my home...” Taka said sniffing slightly. Looking up at Rei he said, “You remind me of it...”

“How do I remind you of it?” Rei asked as he gently began to stroke Taka’s hair. “I miss my home sometimes too, but usually it’s when I’m alone and not surrounded by all my friends and the family I now have here.”

“My mother...she was kind like you.” Taka answered. “She always had a smile and always believed in me...” He answered. “Rei-chan...”

Rei nodded his gold-eyes seemed distant. “I think almost all mothers are like that, kind and loving. My mother, what little I remember of her, she was always kind and she was so beautiful. She had the most beautiful voice and her hair was so long and glorious; I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. I keep my hair long in tribute to her.” He added smiling sadly. “Although it’s not as beautiful as hers was.”

Taka smiled gently, “You’re so perfect, I knew the moment I saw you you’d be the one…” He said first in ancient Japanese, then in modern, “Rei-chan, would you be mine?” He asked in a trembling voice.

Smiling down at Taka Rei nodded, thinking that the child was asking if they could be friends. “Of course I will Taka, you’re so sweet how could I not?”

Taka smiled, “I\'m so happy! Thank you!” He glomped Rei and held on tight. “Please take this as a token of my et-eter…of me” Taka finished, unable to pronounce the words properly, and took of his amulet, holding it out to Rei.

Rei patted his back, a small smile on his face, he didn’t quite understand why the child was so happy but he didn’t ask, there was no reason too. “All right Taka.” He said with a smile, taking the amulet. “But are you sure?”

Nodding, Taka smiled up at him. “Oh course I’m certain, I want you to be mine forever!”

Smiling, Rei put it around his neck, “Okay, then are you ready to go back out there yet?” He asked pulling away to smile down at Taka.

“Are you ready to have me?” Taka asked back.

Startled Rei pulled back a little more. “Why wouldn’t we be ready to have you come back and join us?” Taka couldn’t have guessed they’d been talking about him . . .could he?

Taka smiled at Rei, “I see, okay then, can I have some apple juice?” he asked innocently.

“Of course.” Rei replied standing and offering Taka a hand. “Let’s go get you some.”

Taka\'s smile just grew larger as he grabbed Rei\'s hand and followed him out into where the others were sitting all finished their tea.

“Hey Rei, so the little guy was up, hope we didn\'t wake you.” Max said, an apologetic look on his face, to Taka.

“It\'s alright, it\'s too early for bed anyways.” Taka said beaming.

“Why are you so happy?” Takao asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Cuz Rei said he\'d be mine!” Taka said showing off his wide smile.

“Wow Rei, so when\'s the wedding?” Max asked jokingly.

Rei stuck his tongue out at Max. “Very funny Maxie bet you think you’re pretty clever.”

Rolling his eyes Kai stood up. “I’m going to resume training.” He said addressing the group as he left. “When all of you see fit to stop being lazy come join me.” With that he left the dojo and returned to the training field.

Hitoshi looked after him and stood as well. “I’m going to go train too. Takao I don’t think you should spend too much time lazing around, you have a tournament coming up.” With that he left, following after Kai and leaving the group standing there in tense silence.

“Well that was a little odd.” Rei said staring off after the two. “Well let’s get you your apple juice Taka.” Rei said leading the child into the kitchen and retrieving said apple juice from the fridge and handing it to Taka. “Here you go.”

Takao smirked slightly then looked at Rei, “So when are you gonna train?”

Kyouju looked up from his comp, “If you want I\'ll entertain Taka for you.”

Takao smiled at Taka, “What do you say kiddo?”

“Um, okay, if Rei needs to train.” Taka agreed.

“Alright then it\'s settled, come on Rei, Max. Let\'s go beybattle!” Takao said enthusiastically.

“Alright Takao!” Max said just as and started to follow him out. “You coming Rei?” He asked, turning slightly to look at Rei

Rei grinned at them showing his fangs. “Of course! I wouldn’t miss it for the world!” He said walking past them. “But I don’t know if either of you will be able to handle me!” With that he ran the rest of the way out of the dojo. “Last one there has to fight Kai!”

“Ah! No way!” Takao shouted giving chase.

Max laughed and ran out as well.

Kyouju looked at Taka, “So um, you wanna watch again?” He asked him.

Taka tilted his head, “Will Kai get angry at me?”

Kyouju sweat dropped, “Uh yeah, maybe...so um, what do you want to do?”

Taka looked at him seriously, “You want to observe their status, so why don\'t you? I\'ll take care of myself.”

“Ah but...” Kyouju started.

Taka eyes glowed for a moment and a spell was placed on Kyouju, “Go see what they\'re up to, I\'ll be alright.”

“Okay...” Kyouju said in a zombie like fashion. He gathered up his stuff and headed out he door.

“Now I have to see if that vulture got a hold of my trail, though it would by now be almost impossible to miss.” Taka said, standing up and heading in the other direction. “It\'s good that I have at least some of my powers back...”

-

Kyouju headed outside, set up his laptop and began recording the stats of the bladers.

“Hey Kyouju, where\'s the kid?” Takao asked.

“...” Kyouju continued to sit there like a zombie.

Rei looked over too as did Hitoshi as well as Kai and Max who were both currently beybattling. “Chief? What’s wrong buddy?” Rei asked as he went over and tapped Kyouju on the shoulder.

Kyouju continued to stare off into the distance, completely in a trance.

“Um, chief you\'re beginning to scare me...” Max said.

“You guys...I think there\'s something wrong with him.” Takao said, pocking him. He fell down eyes still off into the distance.

Hitoshi came over and sat Kyouju up staring into his non-seeing eyes. “He’s in some sort of trance.” He looked over at his brother. “Get me a bucket of water Takao, and hurry.”

Takao went off to do as asked.

By this time Kai and Max had halted their battle and come over to stand with the rest of the group. “What could have done this?” Kai asked, his mind going over certain things. “Where is that child?” He asked suddenly looking at everyone, his eyes as hard as steel.

Max\'s eyes grew wide. “You think he did this?” he asked, in slight horror.

Kai nodded. “He isn’t here right now, and who else could have done it? We’ve seen some of the things he can do.”

“I don’t believe it!” Rei shouted glaring at Kai. “He’s just a kid! There’s no way he would or could do anything like this! I’ll prove it to you!” With that Rei turned and ran back into the dojo intent on finding Taka.

Thunder was heard a little ways away, along with screaming.

Takao returned with the water, asking. “Did you guys hear that? Hey where\'s Rei?”

Max looked at Kai, “What\'ll we do if it is him?”

“We confront him and ask what it is he’s doing here. I know there is something strange about that child.” Kai said his eyes fixed on where Rei had left. He turned back to the group when Hitoshi spoke.

“Takao I want you to throw the water on Kyouju.” Hitoshi instructed he took the laptop out of the way so that the instrument wouldn’t get ruined. “Hopefully it’ll wake him up.”

Takao nodded and threw the water on Kyouju, who awoke with a sputter. “What!? When?! How?!” He shouted.

Takao sighed, “At least he\'s awake.”

Max sighed too, “You okay chief?” He asked.

“Fine, except that I\'m wet. Hey where are the kid, and Rei? And why am I outside?” He asked.

“Same question we were just asking ourselves...” Takao said.

There was a particularly loud crash of thunder, sounding a bit closer and an accompanied scream from Rei.

“Oh my gods! Rei!!” Max shouted.
