>This Chapter is Work In Progress<
Edward groaned as he heard that damned alarm clock go off. ‘Goddamn thing never stops’ he thought bitterly. Getting fed up with the constant ringing, he picked up the source of evil and threw it into a nearby wall. The thing smashed into tons of pieces and it earned him an evil smile from his beloved. Roy got up, which earned a groan from Edward.
“Don’t worry, go back to sleep Edward,” Roy insisted as he picked up the phone from across the room and brought it to the bed. Roy winked and told Edward that they were going to ‘play sick’ today. Neither of them felt like getting up and wanted to spend a day together before Roy’s birthday tomorrow. “Act like you are coughing Edward.”
Roy dialed the number and Riza picked up. “Hello?”
“Yes, Lieutenant Hawkeye? I’m staying home for the day. Seems like Edward caught a bug. He got sick earlier this morning. Yes. Uh huh. Will do,” Edward was trying to cough like mad but found it hurting his throat.
Roy hung up the phone and grinned like a mad man. “She says we better be in tomorrow and for the runt to get well. She gives you her sympathy and wishes you well.”
Edward growled at the small insult but got over it. He rubbed his neck where his throat was now bothering him and pulled Roy back down. “More sleep,” he muttered before wrapping his arms around the older man’s waist. Roy kissed the top of Edward’s head before settling in himself and listening to the “pitter patter” of rain. This was a good day to stay indoors and spend the day sleeping. Roy before long, slipped into sleep once again himself.
Edward rolled out of bed only an hour later. Black Hayate was whining at the door and the constant scratching on it didn’t help either. He rolled his eyes and walked the dog downstairs then shoved him into the backyard. “Might as well make breakfast while I’m in here.”
He pulled out the eggs, waffle batter, and hash browns then pulled out the orange juice. He also pulled out the fowl stuff that he hated so much, milk. “Gah, how can anyone drink this shit?” He thought bitterly.
Edward put everything together in twenty minutes and heard footsteps which meant everyone was up. He looked out the doors and decided to leave Black Hayate out there. He set the last of he food on the table in time as everyone gathered to the table. Roy wrapped his arms around Edward’s waist and kissed his cheek gently. “Thanks for this Edward.” He sat himself right across from his husband and started taking some food.
Edward looked up from his plate and addressed the Tringhams. “So how long are you staying for?”
“Well we actually might stay here permanently. Our job was done in Xenotime, the people really don’t need us anymore,” Russell said as he munched on the eggs he put on his plate. “I was thinking of that last night before I went to sleep. A fresh start here might be what I and Fletcher need.”
“Brother, why don’t we go and have a look around town after breakfast? Do a little shopping,” the younger suggested and Russell nodded.
Roy looked up from the glass he had been drinking from and swallowed his food. “Have a good time boys, just don’t be too long. And you may want to take an umbrella, it‘s still raining. One is located by the door.” Roy smiled and went back to eating. The boys nodded and thanked Edward for the delicious food. He took up their dishes and started cleaning.
“Let me know when you are done Roy. Either that or put the dishes in the sink and I’ll take care of them later,” Edward sighed and went back to cleaning the other dishes.
“What’s the matter Ed?” Roy looked over to the boy at the sink with a concerned look.
“Nothing, just bored I guess,” Edward shrugged his shoulders. “After all I have to stay indoors all day because of someone telling the First Lieutenant that I was sick.”
“We may have visitors later if you know what I mean,” Roy rolled his eyes. “You know how they get when they find out that their favorite shrimp Major is missing or sick,” Roy had to chuckle at the statement he just made.
Edward’s shoulders slumped over and his head dipped towards his chest as a nerve was struck. A tiny “bastard” was muttered before he went back to the dishes.
Roy finished off his breakfast and slid his dishes into the sink. He thanked Edward properly before slipping into the backyard to practice his moves. The blonde turned for a few seconds to notice how gracefully his husband moved. Edward was in trance, the Flame Alchemist moved beautifully. Edward smiled a bit and turned back to finish the dishes.
The Tringham brothers moved in and out of shops searching for the proper furniture and things they might have for a new house around the country side. Maybe even a house near the city if not that expensive. Russell was getting tired of walking and wanted to rest, but Fletcher just moved too fast. ‘Damn kids and their energy.’ Russell thought as the younger blonde moved into yet another store.
“Come on Fletch I’m tired,” he called to Fletcher, who only smiled and continued walking.
Fletcher picked a couple of things that sparked his interest, and bought them from what money Russell had given him. He then carried two bags back out and showed them to Russell. The elder brother could only smile as he sat down on a nearby bench. Fletcher joined Russell and went back through what he bought, digging around the items. Pulling out each item and holding it in his hands for a second or two then replacing it back in the bag.
Fletcher looked over at Russell and returned the smile. “You want to go back to the house now Russell?”
The elder brother only nodded and stood. Russell began walking as the younger blonde followed in suite of the elder’s footsteps.
They passed by the train station just as the train pulled up. The whistle blowing and smoke bellowing out of the stack as the train rested before another journey. They watched as all sorts of people stepped out of the doors. Russell looked down at Fletcher before asking “did Ed tell you anything about when Alphonse might be coming?”
In response the younger brother shook his head no as they walked passed a tall sandy colored hair boy. Both not noticing that this tall blonde boy was indeed Alphonse.
Alphonse could only laugh a bit at this. He had recognized them as soon as he stepped off the train. But, it seemed like both brothers had no clue to who exactly he was as they strode passed him. “Excuse me,” Alphonse finally piped up as he tapped the elder brother on the shoulder.
Russell turned around and met the boy’s eyes. “May I help you?”
Alphonse looked at Russell and smiled “yeah, I feel like I know you. Have we ever met before?”
“I don’t believe so. So where are you from?” Russell asked and watched as Alphonse put his suitcase down.
“Umm well, I’m from a place called Resembool. Do you know it?” Russell looked up at the mention of the town. He studied the light brown eyes and searched for his answer. The sandy blonde hair, the almost gold like eyes.
“You wouldn’t by any chance be related to Edward Elric would you?” Russell noticed as Alphonse’s eyes shimmered.
“Who is he?” Alphonse smiled inwardly as he saw the dumbfound look on Russell’s face.
“The infamous Fullmetal Alchemist. Kind of short, blonde hair, golden eyes. How can you not know him?” Russell was dumbstruck at the kid. He didn’t know Edward?
“Oh yeah, okay I’ve seen him before,” Alphonse finally decided to lighten up. “Yeah I’ve actually met him. Come on Russell you don’t know me?”
“How in the hell do you know my name?” Russell inquired, now very confused.
Alphonse had to give himself credit for this. “Neither of you know who I am?”
Russell just stood there in a daze. Who was this kid? He studied the features once more and grinned. “Al is that you? It’s been years and how did you get your body back?”
“All through Ed’s doing. He promised me and helped me get my body back. Why are you here anyways?” Alphonse asked and picked his suitcase back up.
Russell looked down at Fletcher then back up to Alphonse “well we came for a visit at first. Then we actually decided to stay, thinking we’d give somewhere else a try.”
Alphonse nodded in understanding, smiling slightly. The trip back home went on in silence as they walked. Occasionally Alphonse glanced back at the two brothers then continued with his own musings.
His excitement to see his brother after a month of living back in Resembool with Winry and Pinako.
