Black Heart
Chapter 3
No one had seen the demon, Heero soon discovered,
they had just found bodies with their hearts ripped out. Heero had never seen
anything so blatantly bloody and violent, even in battle. No human could rip
out a heart like that. Of course, the hearts had not been found. Clearly the
demon had devoured them. The demon was also a crafty one and Heero was not
entirely sure how to track it. For now, he stayed at the edge of the river that
cut through the village. This was the only source of water and the demon would
have to come to it sooner or later. Unfortunately, the river was also long and
he could not patrol it all at once. It was an inefficient method and it
frustrated him. How was he supposed to catch a creature that left no trail? He
growled in annoyance. Dragons were much easier, they
left a trail of fire and destruction and were so big it was impossible not to
spot them. This demon, however, worked under the cover of darkness and the only
violence it did was to the people it killed. Heero stared at the water,
watching trout swimming past him. It made him hungry again watching the silvery
fish.
“Can I help you?” A familiar voice asked from behind him.
Heero spun and saw that it was the odd boy from the inn.
Duo honestly didn’t know if he was lucky or misfortunate.
The handsome boy from the inn this morning was standing by the river near his
shack. Of course, the boy had been cold and rude to him, so Duo had qualms
about engaging him in conversation, but no one else had ever come out here. The
boy narrowed his cold, dark blue eyes at him. The knight’s features were very
different from his and Duo knew that he was from the North.
“You cannot help me with anything,” the knight said. The
boy made his heart race and he didn’t like it.
“Then what are you doing out here?” Duo asked. The knight
growled. So many questions! The boy was annoying, yet even Heero could not deny
that he had a certain charm. He was very disarming and pleasant, but mysterious
and Heero didn’t really know anything about him besides the fact that he worked
at the inn. He found that he really did want to know more about the strange,
long haired boy. He looked like a maiden, yet he was definitely male. Rather,
he had the strength of a knight and the beauty of a princess. Heero found that
Duo had certain features that were even more pleasant than Princess Relena’s. He shook off that thought. Comparing a male
peasant to a female royal was wrong and disgusting. He tried to ignore how Duo’s
soft violet eyes made his chest feel, but the more he tried, the more he
failed. Heero was not ignorant of the workings of the world. He knew that in
some places, men had sex with other men, but not here. Here such things were a
sin and Heero did not understand how men could do it. Men were supposed to be
with woman and any other relationship was not sanctioned by God, but the devil.
Duo, on the other hand, had no such beliefs. After watching
his whole town die because of an unknown plague, he had stopped believing in
God. He believed in his own feelings, something that he could experience and
that were tangible. He was also detached from society
to the point that a lot of their rules didn’t matter to him nor did they make
sense. Heero was attractive. Duo didn’t feel much for females. He knew that he
was supposed to, but the feelings were just not there. So, it was easy for him
to realize what he was feeling when Heero’s eyes pierced into his. Love. He was falling in love!
“You’re out here, too,” Heero said. Duo snorted.
“Yes, but I live here, you do not. So, why are you here, or
are you planning to steal from me?” Duo teased but Heero didn’t seem to
understand that as he paled and balked at Duo’s insult.
“Sir, I am a knight and as such am bound to justice and
honor. To say that I would be stealing from you-,” Duo held up his hands to
stop Heero’s rant.
“I was just playing with you, don’t get so upset.” Duo
walked past Heero, who glared at him and Duo leaned down with his bucket to
gather water from the stream for his bath tonight. It was far too cold tonight
to take another bath in the river. As Duo leaned down, his rounded ass formed a
pleasant shape against his trousers. Heero swallowed and felt something inside
of him tremble and pound. His crotch burned and he found a sudden urge to touch
the boy there. But it was wrong! It was wrong to touch a girl down there, let
alone a boy! But Heero’s body didn’t seem to want to listen to his mind and he
felt himself shuttering as he continued to stare at the peasant’s nicely shaped
buttocks. Then the boy was standing with the full bucket of water in his hands.
“I must ask you again, what are you doing here? If there is
anything I can do for you, I will. And,” Duo narrowed his eyes at the knight, “You
speak of honor, yet twice today you have been rude to me and you have not yet
told me your name! That is very inappropriate, sir knight.”
Heero paled. The boy was right. He had let his personal
feelings affect his behavior and he had been rude for no real reason. The boy
was offering him help when he didn’t even know him and Heero had snapped at
him. He bowed low, making Duo blush who wasn’t used to
be showing such respect from anyone, let alone a perfect stranger.
“You are right, please accept my apologies. I shall do
anything in my power to cur your favor.”
Duo smiled. The knight had such a polite way of talking, it made the blush stay on his face.
“I’d accept your apologies if you could join me for dinner,”
Duo said hopefully, “I live by myself and I don’t get company.”
Heero paused. He should be hunting for the demon, not
talking to some peasant boy. Still, he wanted very much to have dinner with the
boy, to talk to him, learn his name, learn everything
about him. The demon could wait. After all, it wouldn’t disappear in the course
of a few hours. If the creature was only active at night anyway, Heero doubted
that he would be able to find it any other time. He bowed to Duo again.
“My name is Sir Heero Yuy from
the North.”
Duo’s smile was warm and it made Heero’s heart pound
painfully.
“I’m Duo Maxwell, from nowhere, really,” Duo shrugged, “I’ve
moved around a lot, so I guess you could say that I’m from everywhere and
nowhere.”
Heero took the heavy water bucket from Duo. Duo blinked at
him in confusion.
“I have offended you, so it’s the least I can do,” Heero
explained, his heart beating faster and faster as his hand brushed Duo’s. He
had never felt this way before.
“Thank you,” Duo said as he led Heero up to his shack.
Heero blushed.
End Chapter 3
Ok, so I have the entire
story mapped out now and will try to finish it over the next few days. The
whole story is only eight chapters long and it won’t be a lengthy story. I
guess it doesn’t really need to be.
