I don't know the exact protocol doctors should take in certain situations, but sitting down at your breakfast table and laying out medications, explaining side-effects, and what to expect over the next few days seemed a little cruel to me. At least let the man get his bacon and eggs down before you make him want to vomit.
Ronnie sidled up next to me, gripping my hand and laying her cheek to my arm. She wasn't a stranger to cancer as she'd lost her mom, grandmother, and aunt to the hated disease. I watched alongside her as her aunt succumbed to it. I don't think I could handle watching Heero die in the same way. It was too much for me. I'd nursed him back from death once. I doubt I'd have the strength to watch someone else do it again.
There's a bond between the five of us that's stronger than blood. I'd die for anyone of them and know they'd do the same. But all we really want is to be able to live on together and face a future that had been looking so bright in the last nine years.

He glanced to Quatre and the blond was now fully awake, looking a little pale himself as he stared down at the pile of medications. Cerulean eyes raised to meet cobalt and he reached a hand over to cover Heero's on the table.
He didn't say anything, but Heero tried to draw as much comfort and strength from that gentle touch as he could.
“Dr. Weir,” Quatre said quietly.
“Yes?”
“I think that's enough for now. Could you leave us while we eat?”
“Yes, of course.” He stood and pointed to several bottles. “Don't forget to take those with your breakfast.”
Heero nodded, not trusting his voice. The chatter that had filled the room prior to the doctor's entrance did not return with his departure. Somehow the presence of the pill bottles made everything more real. As if before that moment they could pretend it wasn't happening. Heero pulled his hand from Quatre's, ignoring the slight tremor in it as he shook out pills from the designated bottles and held them in his palm.
Duo felt nausea grow in his own stomach as he saw the look on Heero's face. It wasn't outright fear, but it was the closest to it he'd seen on the Japanese man. He poured a glass of orange juice and set it next to him. Heero looked up, attempting a grateful smile and quickly downing the pills.
Breakfast was a difficult affair and Quatre didn't think any of them managed more than a few bites, Wufei none as he'd never bothered raising his head. When the nurse came and whisked Heero away, all pretense fell and Quatre dropped his fork to his plate.
“We have to act normal, guys.”
Trowa nodded, grimacing slightly as it sent a pulse of pain through his right eye. “Yeah.”
“That'll be hard as shit,” Duo muttered.
“No one said it'd be easy,” Wufei intoned, face still hidden in his arms.
Violet eyes narrowed. “Nothing ever is, is it?”
Wufei raised his head. “Well, that's just life. Sometimes shit happens.”
He snorted. “And sometimes assholes cover you with it.”
He ground his teeth. “Hey, I didn't cast the first stone.”
“No, but you retaliated with a fuckin' boulder!”
Trowa, Ronnie, and Quatre wisely remained silent. The two had had fights in the past, but nothing like this. It had been over stupid stuff that had quickly turned into something to laugh about in the future. They had a feeling this was something that would never be laughed over.
“Did you ever stop to think that maybe it was an accident? I never meant for it to happen!”
“Doesn't change the fact you did it!”
Wufei slammed his fist to the table. “Damn it, Duo! It's not like you've never screwed up before!”
They glared at each other over the table, chests heaving with angered breaths. Duo's jaw flexed several times before he replied in a low menacing tone. “At least I never cheated on you.” He turned and stormed out, the door slamming shut behind him.
Wufei closed his eyes, dropping his head back to the table. “I didn't mean to,” he whispered against his folded arms.
Trowa stared at the man in shock. “How do you accidentally cheat on someone?”
He groaned and pushed from the table, exiting through the opposite door Duo had. “I don't want to talk about it.”
Quatre stared at the door. Trowa and Ronnie exchanged glances. All of them were wondering how the most honorable man they'd ever met had done something so dishonorable.
“I'll go check on Heero,” Quatre said in a quiet voice as he stood.
He smiled softly to Nancy as he passed through the living room where she was vacuuming. He felt a little guilty for kicking them all out the night before, but none of them seemed upset about it so he let it go.
He paused at the top of the stairs, gazing at Heero's closed door. He felt a moment of uncertainty, not sure if he was really going to be able to handle the next few months. He'd had this image in his mind of Heero being indestructible. But, in all fairness, the man had lived through self-destructing! The thought of Heero's body betraying him had never crossed the blond's mind. He took a breath and knocked lightly before peeking into the room.
Heero moved his eyes from the TV to the blond and tried for a smile that instantly fell flat. His legs were curled up beneath him, slightly to the side. His chin was propped on his fist while his left arm lay on the armrest of the recliner, an IV running from it.
“How's it going?” Quatre asked as he sat on the bed to Heero's right.
He shrugged. “What was the yelling about?”
Quatre raised an eyebrow. “Gossiping, Heero? I didn't think you had it in you?”
This time the small smile was able to form. “They're my friends.” His brows drew together and he shook his head. “Duo used to tell me everything,” he snorted, “whether I wanted to know or not. I'm a bit surprised he didn't tell me they were having problems.”
“Apparently Wufei cheated on him.”
Blue eyes widened. “I don't believe it.”
He raised a shoulder. “He didn't deny it.”
Heero looked to the side in thought. “There has to be more to it than that. Wufei would never just cheat on Duo.”
Quatre nodded slowly. “I'm sure there's more to it, but I can't think of a thing Duo could have done to cause Wufei to sleep around.”
Heero sighed. “Maybe it was a drunken one night stand,” he offered.
“Maybe.” Quatre glanced to the TV and his jaw dropped. “What are you watching?”
Heero looked back to the screen. “A really old series.”
Quatre gaped at the image of two naked men getting it on in the shower. He swallowed. “Heero, what is this show?”
“Queer as Folk.” He glanced to the blond and smirked. “What's with that expression? I thought...” His smirk fell. “Uh... don't take this the wrong way, but I thought you were gay.”
He snapped out of his shock. “I thought you were straight.”
He shrugged. “I guess it never came up. I'm bi.”
Quatre studied him a moment. “Which do you prefer?”
Heero rested his head back, eyes on the TV. “Not to be rude, Quatre, but...”
“No, it's all right. It was rude to ask. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to pry.”
“Quatre-”
“I'm an idiot. Just ignore me. I really shouldn't have-”
“Quatre, it's all right. Stop babbling.”
He clamped his mouth shut. “Sorry,” he muttered.
Heero shook his head in amusement. “I just don't want to talk about it right now.”
“All right.”
Heero started the disc over. “Want to watch it with me?”
“Sure.”
For the next hour, Quatre almost forgot about the drugs being pumped into Heero as he watched the first encounter between Brian and Justin.
“Oh my, I would never proposition some stranger on the street.”
Heero laughed softly. “Yeah, he's definitely braver than we are.”
Quatre smirked. “You'd rather face a falling Libra?”
He nodded, lips quirked. “You kinda know what you're facing when you're staring up a huge block of falling metal. But another human? They're too unpredictable.”
Quatre chuckled as they returned their attention back to the screen.

Wufei leaned over the balcony railing and gazed down at the garden below. Duo was wandering through the bushes of exotic flowers, leaning in on occasion to take a sniff of the sweet fragrances they offered. It had been one of the earlier surprises he'd been graced with, Duo's love of flowers. He'd explained, with an embarrassed flush, that it hadn't been until he came to Earth for operation meteor that he'd even seen a flower, much less smelled them.
On L2, the best you could hope for was being near a body that had been washed within the last five days. Once Duo had landed on Earth, he'd never taken a moment of the fresh air for granted, and he'd begun to almost study scents.
Wufei rested his chin on the cool marble of the railing and sighed as Duo delicately placed two fingers under a rose blossom to tilt it to his nose. A small lifting of full lips and violet eyes slid closed. Wufei's brows drew together in pain like he'd never felt before. Even Meiran's death or his defeat of Treize couldn't compete with the agony of being separated from Duo.
He'd messed up, that was for sure. He would never deny that. But if he could just summon up the courage... and humility... it wasn't infeasible for him and Duo to work through the problem and continue in their relationship. Plus, Duo had to be willing to listen rationally. And when the braided man was pissed, rational wasn't always an option.
“Oh, Duo, please...”
