Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Four
You felt like shit. That's about all there was to it. Everything was too warm and your body kind of ached. Not to mention the fact that it didn't feel like you had gotten any sleep despite having napped the day away. And despite the fact that you knew you should go do something, explore something new, you just didn't want to. It was a very bleh day and you were supernaturally tired.
You turned over in bed, vaguely hoping you didn't overspill and being worried that you did. Slowly you pushed yourself up so that you could go to the bathroom and change. At about the same time as you started to get up your bedroom door opened.
"Hey—" Goku stopped as he stared at you. You watched as a worried look crossed his face. "I smell blood. Bad blood. What's wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong," you grit out through you sudden onslaught of embarrassment.
"...oh, you're on your girl thing huh?"
"It's called a period."
And yes. You were. And it wasn't something you logically should be embarrassed about but you couldn't help it. Talking about it or anything with him was embarrassing. It might have been a natural cycle but the fact that he could smell the "bad blood" was embarrassing as hell. You definitely needed to bathe if he could smell it just walking into your room. That was probably the worst part - how he instantly knew you were on your period. You had no way of knowing that Goku had a highly developed sense of smell in a biological level. After all,as far as you and he knew he was just as human as you were.
Feeling like you were going to die of embarrassment, you gathered a change of clothes. And when you skirted by Goku, nearly as timid as a mouse, you told him that you'd be back in a few minutes. As you prepared a few things for when you were done, you turned on the shower so that it wouldn't be freezing when you got in.
You trusted Goku to not destroy your room in the ten minutes it took you to do a quick wash. Unfortunately for you, you got pretty dizzy when you tried to get into the shower. You ended up banging your knee when you caught yourself.
And cue the profanity that raced out of your mouth. Or at least they would have it you weren't so dizzy and out of breath.
"Are you okay?!" Goku's worried voice made it through the hallway and door from your bedroom.
You had the image that he'd open that door and come in if you didn't answer quickly. You could practically hear him stepping towards the bathroom as it was.
"I'm fi—" your voice was weak as you tried to push back your thundering, overactive heart. "I'm fine!"
You didn't hear him but he let out some sort of unconvinced sound. You grabbed a hold of as much of your willpower as you could so you could at least do the basics to wash yourself up. But even under the hot water you felt cold. And you felt sick to your stomach. Thankfully you could sit on the tub's edge and wash up as the shower head cord extended that far.
But the next time you went to stand up, you blacked out.
Your body crashed to the porcelain and your energy flickered out like a candle. That's what alarmed Goku the most. He rushed from your bedroom and into the bathroom without any hesitation. When he saw your prone form laying half way out of the tub his heart raced with fear.
Goku grabbed you without thinking about it and did the first thing he could think of. He raced you out of the house and up to the lookout.
Kami would know what to do. He had to.
______________________________
God your head hurt. It felt like something was trying to escape from your forehead. Unfortunately you didn't think it would be a wondrous birth of a new goddess or anything like that. You slowly opened your eyes as you tried to figure out why you felt like you should be panicking right now. You couldn't actually remember when you'd fallen asleep or why you had such a massive headache.
What you did realize was that you were in strange clothes...in a room that you didn't know. And that was enough to frighten you.
"You're awake!" A familiar voice said happily. "You had us worried. What happened?"
You honestly couldn't remember. Judging by Goku's reaction though, you hadn't simply fallen asleep.
"Goku...where are we?" You asked as you tried to sit up.
When you did you started to panic. Not out of fear this time but our of embarrassment. You weren't in your own clothes but last thing you remembered was the fact that you were still on your period. Did you have a pad on? Were you about to make a mess in the borrowed clothes? Oh dear god why were you in borrowed clothes to begin with?!
"We're up in Kami's lookout. He's the guardian of Earth."
That was a lot of information to take in. "...Why?"
You tried to hold back the torrent of more personal questions. Especially the ones that promised to be of a more embarrassing nature.
"I brought you to Kami because I didn't know what else to do. You really had me scared. You we unconscious in the bathtub. Your ki was all gone."
You knew that ki was energy. Like something tied with life. Not just physical energy. You'd gotten that much from Goku's stories and demonstrations so far. But you hadn't known that he could sense that.
"Sorry," you whispered. "I didn't mean to scare you."
"What happened? Kami wouldn't tell me anything."
He looked so worried as he moved over to the bed. He'd taken a seat beside you as he talked. And you were just glad that you didn't see any trace of blood. In fact you were pretty sure you felt a pad but that wasn't the thing you were concentrating on the most. It was more like an urgent side thought.
"Nothing happened," you tried to ease the concern on his face. It didn't work.
"Don't lie to me. Somethings wrong. What is it? Bulma never fainted when she was on her period so it can't be that."
Well fuck. Now you were overtly embarrassed again. He had to go and bring up the period didn't he? You pushed it back. It wasn't anything to be embarrassed about. You should have been more embarrassed about the fact that you had fainted. When had you fainted?
"Goku..." you breathed out.
"Whatever it is, I'll help! I promise."
He was so earnest it was almost heartbreaking.
"You can't help Goku," you whispered.
Though in the back of your head, there was a nagging...pleading voice that reminded you that he could. He told you about the wondrous things called dragonballs. The special orbs that could grant one wish a year to anyone that found them. The only problem was that they were spread all over the world in potentially dangerous areas. You didn't want to put Goku in that much danger. But at the same time you really didn't want to die either.
You felt your heart squeeze painfully in your chest.
"Sure I can!"
He was so optimistic it was almost comforting. Almost. Right now his effervescent smile just made you feel weaker. More helpless. You could feel the ugly look creeping up on your face as your eyes watered. You were not a pretty crier like this women in the movies. When you cried your face squished up and you were pretty sure it wasn't an attractive feature. You clenched your fists and swallowed thickly, trying to distract yourself from the fear. You didn't want Goku to see you cry. He was such a strong person. He'd dealt with so much; facing death almost daily when he was a kid if his stories were to be believed. You didn't want him to think you were weak. Especially since it was your perceived strength that was the reason he had approached you in the first place.
"Tell me what's wrong."
"I'm dying," you managed to get out. You felt your voice break as you admitted it aloud to him. "The doctors can't figure it outwit but all of my systems are running on hyperdrive or something. It's how I knocked that guy out when we first met. I mean, look at me. Do I really look that strong? I know I don't. But it's like I'm on a constant adrenaline high. Like those moms who lift a car off their kids. And my body can't handle it. It's breaking down. Too much stress on my heart. Stuff like that. I don't know. The doctors started getting all technical and wouldn't explain. Because I confuse them. The only thing everyone agrees on is that it's killing me. And I probably have like a year left tops."
Fuck. So much for not crying in front of him. You were just happy that most of what you said was intelligent enough to be understood through your rant. You stiffened up as Goku pulled you closer. You were going to get his shirt wet with your tears. Not to mention the mucus that was bound to come out sooner or later. You didn't want to gross him out but you didn't have the strength to pull away either.
As you tried to calm yourself back down, Goku just continued to hold you. He was quiet but you could feel the tension in his body. It was like warm iron in the air, firm and resolute.
"I'll fix it. I promise."
Well, that started the tears again.
