"Mr. Zagart, perhaps you'd like to borrow a pen from one of your classmates,"
Zeo took the sheet of paper from the teacher, looking it over he sees what the man is talking about. It's loaded with heavy ink blots! It wasn't his fault. 'Great. Just what I need, to be doing homework over the weekend,' Although the work just needs to be copied to remove the illegible parts the ink is covering, it's still a pain. 'This is all dumb Rei Kon's fault. If I hadn't gotten so upset about him, I would have been stabbing my worksheet.' He's beginning to hate the guy more and more. It went from pissed at his presence to a desire to throw something at him. And he hasn't officially even done anything. That Zeo knows of. But he could just see it...
'The fresh towels are in the closet, Rei.' Tyson would say while showing the house guest around.
'it's so hot out,' Rei wipes the back of his hand across his forehead. 'A shower sounds good.'
Once the shower came to an end, the live-in guest emerged from the bathroom still as bare as a piece of fruit, and just strolled around the Granger home.
'Rei! What are you doing?' Flabbergasted, Tyson would look away, but his eyes would be drawn back to look everywhere at the foreign landscape.
'I thought I'd freeform it. I don't need a towel when the heat can take care of it.'
Tyson would swallow, eyes glued shut as Rei moves in closer.
'If you're gonna look at me' He takes Granger's hand 'as the blind would,' placing the hand upon his abdomen, he orders. 'touch me.'
And it would be all moans and groans from there!
Zeo heard the teacher saying something to him, and when coming from his thoughts he realized he doesn't recognize anyone in class. The bell run a minute and a half ago. The students cracked up while making kissing sounds of accused love for the teacher, as he made for the exit. Jerks. Ever hear of spacing out?! They weren't even near each other, so what was so lovey-dovey? Tyson would have never done something like that, in fact, if he were in the class he would have defended him. He would have told the jerks to shut up, and mind their own business.
Checking his watch he put a lot more hurry into his step. He's got art class and the building is detached from the main building. It's just art, but, he doesn't want lateness to accumulate on his record.
...
Zeo climbed into the town car, but asked the driver to wait a moment. He looked out of the tinted windows, his gaze grazing each face until seeing Tyson exit. He smiled.
'How can someone be so perfect?' And the sun was hitting him just right. He's practically glowing. Like a God. 'He's just like a God. He's better than a God, he's real.' He touched the glass smoothing his finger down along the length of the distance shrunken teen. 'I wish I could hear what they're saying.'
"Where to, master Zeo?" asked the driver.
"Satoru's Pet shop."
Judging by the look Zeo received in the rearview mirror, if the driver was allowed to question the chosen location, he'd certainly choose now to ask. The Zagart's don't have a pet, so why the odd destination? However, he simply gave a nod then started away.
At the local pet store, after school hours. He's buying a toy and some treats. If one wants to win over a four-legged friend, he has to present himself as a friend. Friends like it when you buy them stuff. It's been tested and proven by the guys he used to know when he lived in Paris. It was exhausting how much people could say the words "could you" before pointing something out. He was overjoyed when his family moved back to Japan. Despite the divorce. At least he's away from the mooches.
"And you're sure dogs like this toy best?" The employee could just be trying to make a sale.
"Sure. I have a dog and he goes ape for the damned thing. That squeaking drives them wild." He laughed. "I don't get it myself, I wanna melt it down to putty, but if it makes Spike happy, I'm stuck with it."
"Thank you."
Taking the bag from the counter, he heads for Tyson's house to offer the gifts.
...
"Oh man, oh man!" Zeo hurried away from the chasing Dragoon.
He doesn't know how it happened or even what went wrong. He went to Tyson's, greeted the whole little entourage of his, then said he brought some thing for Dragoon. They all went outside, the dog was whistled over, then bedlam! At first the nightmare mutt seemed interested, but once Zeo set the treat down for the dog to eat it, Dragoon switched into beast mode and began snapping at him before he chased him. He's been replaying the other night for four minutes now, he's gonna run out of stamina.
"This is going on my wall." Ozuma says. He's got his phone in hand, recording the moment.
"Put that away," Tyson warns. "If that dopey dog bites Zeo, I'm cooked because of your evidence."
Commenting, Kai agreed with Ozuma. "It is pretty funny."
Whistling, Tyson called out. "Here boy! Come on, Dragoon!"
Although Dragoon remained in a state of alert, he did as his master asked and trotted over to a pat on the head and back.
Out of breath, Zeo stooped over, and in a pant whispered. "Thank you."
"I guess he just doesn't like you, Z', sorry." Shrugging his hand, he retrieves the bag of treats. "You don't want beef jerky?" He hands a bite over to the dog. Dragoon readily took the treat enjoying. Tyson couldn't help but laugh. Grabbing the collar, he walked him over to the dog house chaining him up. When he returned, he smiled. "Better? Don't worry about him, you'll get along eventually."
"Don't know," Kai remarks. "If love can't be bought, it's pretty hopeless."
'Who asked you?' Zeo hid his glare behind closed lids as he straightened up, once his breaths returned to normal. "So, what are you guys up to?" He put on a good smile, and joined them on the long porch.
Ozuma answered with bland enthusiasm. "We're not doing anything in particular."
"Oh." Taking a seat beside Tyson, he looks up at the sky. If it's just sitting, then he can hang. He can be one of the gang and not say anything embarrassing. Lying back, he noticed a scent in the air. 'Wow. I can smell Tyson's shampoo.' Breathing in deeply, he smiled. 'It's like being there, getting to know what he smells like during a shower.'
His mind fogged with thoughts of the navy haired Adonis washing himself. He's seen him shirtless enough times thanks to gym class. He's even spied him completely nude. Zeo had snapped a photo one day when Tyson was in the locker room, after a shower he just offered anyone in the room a free show. Nobody looked, not that he'd seen. He was both glad and concerned. What was wrong with them? It's Tyson Granger! He may not have an amazing body like Rei Kon or Garland Siebald. But, he's no slouch with the good looks. And being built isn't always a good thing.
He wanted to touch him. His hand even reached out. Sitting up, and making a grand show of it by swinging his arms out, he got to brush his fingertips through Tyson's ponytail. His heart rate sped up when Tyson looked at him, but instead of appearing pissed or curious, he just smirked and looked as if wondering if Zeo'd done it just to do it, or if he was trying to get his attention.
"Can you think of anything to do, Zeo?" He asked.
'Besides sending everyone home, and staying like this with you forever,' Thinks Zagart. He flicked, his unseen by Tyson, adoring eyes to his lap when he noticed Ozuma looking his way. "I don't know. Maybe we could see a movie, it's hot enough out to be inside."
"He's got a point." Max groaned. He's been lying on his side, eyes closed, ignoring the world up until now.
"Hey, I know!" Zeo pops up to stand. "We can go to my house! We've got an inground pool, and it's indoors too!"
"What? Are you for real?!" Tyson grabbed Zeo's shoulder giving him a light shaking.
"Yeah."
"I could swim." Ozuma piped up.
Max was already headed for the gate. "We'll never get there just talking about it. Point the way, Zeo." He called over his shoulder.
Snickering, Tyson shouted. "Go ahead and get lost while we head to Zeo's house! We won't miss you!" Seeing a rock sail over the wall and hit the ground, he replied. "Missed me!"
He and Zeo voiced their pain when their foreheads collided from Kai smacking Tyson on the back of the head, causing him to hit Zeo in the stagger.
"That one landed." He stuffed his hands into his pockets and very coolly walked to the gate. "Can we go, it's gonna get even hotter while we walk there."
"I can call my driver." Zeo removed his phone from his pocket.
"I like this guy," Tyson slings his arm to rest around the younger teen's shoulders. "he's good for our group."
Ozuma scoffed. "Like an imaginary friend, always filled with good ideas... until you tire of playing with him." He followed after Kai.
Zeo ignored the comment and called his driver. The man never left too far from where his boss was, and came within four minutes to gather up the young men to take to the mansion.
...
"Belly flop!" Max shouted as he jumped from the diving board, landing smack on his front.
"More like face-plant." Ozuma laughed. "Let me have a turn." He swam over to the diving board in an attempt to impress.
Zeo cocked his head from side to side, watching Tyson floating along with little movement. "Should I be worried? He does know how to swim, right?"
Kai laughed. He'd been watching Tyson drift along too. "I think he's sitting in a mental drift ring, like they have at the water parks."
"Hey Kai, I just noticed something," he says when having turned his head to look at Kai, Zeo noticed something was off about the guy. "Your tattoos are gone. Were they temporary?" Looking at the water, he expected to see smudges of Kai floating somewhere.
"It's paint. Well, body ink markers."
"Oh. That's pretty cool." He checks the mixed teen's bare face over one last time before looking back at Tyson.
"Yeah."
Zeo sensed more, but Kai said nothing. It was actually making him uncomfortable.
"It's nice that someone else has money. It can be a burden, ya know,"
"How so?"
"When you wanna do stuff, but everyone says they're broke." Kai shrugged. "I've offered to pay, but they don't want it."
"I've only ever known takers. They never bother to think they can't do anything, as long as they've got me."
Kai scoffed. "Doesn't sound like they were really your friends."
"I guess they weren't." But, they don't matter. They never mattered. Not to Zeo. Not now that he's back in Japan, and back with Tyson. It's nice to know that he's not the kind of guy that would use him. But, Zeo knows he'd offer him every cent if he asked.
"Tyson's a really good guy, isn't he?"
"Huh?!" He asked a little too loudly.
"He only knew you for what? A moment, and you seem to wanna be a part of his gang."
'So much for the bonding experience. He just wants to grill me.' Zeo shrugged his shoulder. "My old friends were creeps. Tyson was really nice to me, every time we came across each other. I just like him. There's nothing wrong with that."
"I guess not."
"Kai! Get Ozuma, we're gonna play senturies!" Max waved him over.
"Let Zeo do it, I'm not in the mood." Replied the observant teen.
"Zeo? Um.. Do you mind, Zeo?" Max asked. Although he seemed the one unsure.
"Sure. How do you play?" Slipping into the water, he swam over to them.
Kai watched with an accessing gaze at their new friend's behavior. He seems wholeheartedly focused on Max at the moment. He could be wrong but... Naah, he's probably imagining things. Standing, he walks over to the lounge chairs, taking a seat to stretch out on, he closes his eyes for a quick nap.
...
"Your pool was awesome, Z'," Tyson was saying as he exits the shower area.
"Yeah. Kai never invites us over," Max added to the compliment. He's beneath a towel drying his hair, but his muffled words still reached the ears of the intended target.
The target of the verbal lashing was guile in response. "I've got a nasty habit of liking my room as a whole unit."
Tyson shrugged. "We're not that destructive."
Zeo felt his heart speed up again, when Tyson's nude side brushed against his own, when his dream draped an arm around his shoulders to whisper.
"He invites Ozuma over all the time, so you know what's going on there."
' Who cares about them?' Then a light went on. 'Is he confessing to me about Rei? Is Tyson saying that when two people are alone together that that's the only thing that can happen?' He was going to be sick.
Impure thoughts just kept playing through his mind for the remained of his hours awake. What should have been the greatest day of his life, since moving back to Japan, was trashed by that interloper Rei Kon.
"What kind of freak doesn't have even one social media page?" Because unless he's under an assumed name, Zeo spent the last two hours of the late evening searching this app or that webpage that for Rei Kon. His name never turned up. 'Damn it! Oh, wait!' Swiftly, he typed Tyson Granger into the search bar on Instagram. He smiled seeing the copious amount of pictures his beloved takes in a short time. 'Gotta find, Rei. Gotta find, Rei..' he thumbed down the page; he was momentarily deterred a dozen times, but finally hit pay dirt.
He can hear the weight of his breaths driving heavily in and out of his body from agitation carving at his calm. Each photo was more private, personal, and more intimate than the last! Tyson and Rei with an arm around each other, Tyson and Rei eating with each other, Tyson and Rei in pajamas staring at the television while they watch some movie or show. The two of them in that photo.. Tyson is on the couch and Rei is seated on the floor, just begging to be touched from behind in the dark.
Zeo could just picture it...
Rei adjusts his seated position when a hot love scene comes on. Leaning back, head tilted in order to look at Tyson, he asks. 'I don't know about you, but I'm horny.'
Tyson, all innocent as can be, would look a bit hesitant. His grandfather could walk in on them, they aren't exactly in a secluded area.
'That's what makes it more fun.' Reaching for Tyson, he'd hold the back of his head, forcing him down until their lips meet.
They'd kiss for a breathless minute, then switch positions to something more comfortable. Lying on each other. Which position could be more comfortable than that? Then they'd undress, and then...
"No! No! No! He's not like that!" He held his head giving it a squeeze, as if trying to find a pressure point to stop a headache. And he does have an ache in his head. It's name is Rei Kon.

Zeo avoided Tyson for a while. He wasn't upset with him or anything, he was upset with himself. He should trust his beloved more. But these thoughts of Tyson and Rei were making him less than pleasant to even be around himself. He snapped at the servants in his house, even William! Who's more like a father to him than his real dad. Zeo certainly views and treats him that way. He half listened to Kenny, when he'd call and wanted to talk about the trip, he even rudely asked him to hurry up and finish his drawn out depiction of his first two days. And all because of Rei Kon. He had to do something about him. He can't live in this anger.
So, on the fifth day of summer break, he went to the restaurant Bon Appetite to confront him.
The wooden doors housed a glass panel, which the early visitor peeked through before going inside. The lights are only on in half of the dining area, the rest of the room is dimly lit. But, one can still see where they're going. Zeo lowered the hat over his face when a man walked by; he's wearing a nice pair of slacks and a dress shirt. He must be one of the waiters.
'If he's here, Rei should be in the kitchen.' Moving stealthy around the near room, he entered the kitchen area. 'Uh oh. More occupied than the dining room.'
But, it was too late to retreat!
"Hey! Who're you?" One of the chefs asked, in a not-too-kind tone. "You can't be back here."
"Get out! We're not open yet," added another of the cooks.
"I'm sorry! It was a mistake!" He bowed. "I just thought that this was the place to sign on as a sous chef,"
The men snickered in distaste, muttering collectively. "We're not hiring" or "dumb kid, get lost".
"Kon, show this kid the door, will you?"
Wiping his hands on a dish towel, he expelled an annoyed sigh but did as he was asked. He rounded the long prepping counter then stopped in his tracks. He looked surprised, then worried then happy as he walked over.
"Hi." He held out his hand, shaking Zeo's when it was taken. "I wasn't expecting to see someone around my age." He leads the way through the exit. Removing a couple of chairs from the nearest table, righting them to the floor so they could sit down. "You said something about a job?"
Blushing, Zeo mumbled. "Maybe.. I don't know.."
Smiling, Rei touched the younger teen's shoulder as though he were a child being told there are no monsters under the bed. "I'm not gonna bite you, just talk to me." Removing the hat on Zeo's head, he cocked his the side to get a look at him. "Nowhere to hide. Come on, don't be shy."
"I'm not. I.. wanted to talk to you."
Rei blinked. "To me? Okay, talk."
"This is too public. Could we maybe talk in private?"
"Sure. I lock up around ten, if you can be here then we'll talk in private."
Now it was Zeo's turn to blink in silent shock. "They let you lock up, all by yourself?"
Rei nods. "I'm eighteen. Gotta start responsibility somewhere," he found something amusing and shared. "Even a five year old can lock a door. If I can't manage it, I shouldn't be walking around."
Despite hating him, Zeo laughed. He had a point there. But it still seemed like a big job.
"If you're serious about a job sometime, I'm part time manager until I get out of school. I can put in a good word or hire you myself, if it's a little later on."
'Hn. Jerk is just trying to butter me up. He must know I like Tyson, and thinks it's funny because he's with him.' He glared softly, so that it looks more like a stern expression. "I don't want a job. I just really wanted to talk to you."
"Oh. Okay. Later then, we're kinda busy with preparing to open." Standing, he raised his hand as a wave before gesturing to the exit.
Zeo walked out feeling a little embarrassed, as well as relieved. Ten o'clock was a perfect time for a chat.
10 p.m.
The day ticked along too slowly for Zeo's liking. It was as if life was trying to stall-off the encounter. He didn't let that take the sail from beneath his wings. He has to have it out with Rei. He's too much competition for Tyson's love. He's got a job, an apartment of his own; how can he compete with total privacy when he's still living at home. Although, Tyson is s well, but he has an entire wing of a house to himself. Well.. He does too, but.. It's not the same. His father always has someone looking in on him. He's constantly being treated as a delinquent child, just because he runs off sometimes, and cops attitude. It doesn't mean he's infantile.
'Looks like everyone's gone.' He noted.
There's just one car in the parking lot. It must belong to Rei. He really was here alone. That's dangerous. Don't his parents or the owner of the building care? Although, with Rei's physique he'd probably be more trouble for whomever breaks in and tries to rob the place. Looking up at the big glowing moon, he felt a bit at ease. A stern warning, an agreement to comply, all will be well. Then he can get back to enjoying his dream guy. Knocking on the door, he waved when Rei saw him.
The door was opened and he walked inside. "Kinda warm in here,"
Locking the door, he says. "The AC can't run all night." He waved him back to the kitchen. Taking a seat on the stool across from the one he'd offered to his visitor, Rei waited in silence for what was to be said.
"I don't know where to start." Zeo felt himself slipping, all his anger shackled by embarrassment. What on earth is he doing here?
"Then can I say something?"
"What?"
"Before I embarrass myself, how old are you?"
'Huh?' Zeo actually had to voice it. "Huh?"
"Sorry. You just look younger up close."
"Up close? Umm.. I'm sixteen."
That seemed to satisfy Rei because suddenly smiled. Standing up, he turned away as he spoke. "A week ago, I broke up with my boyfriend,"
'His boyfriend? So he is gay.' Replaying Rei's words, he wonders. 'A week ago? So he was seeing Tyson!'
"It was selfish of me, but I had to," Rei was going on.
Zeo looked around him then reached for a pairing knife stuck in the dish rack.
"I heard you playing before, at the music hall. I developed a crush on you. I know it's weird when I don't k..." Rei's words stop suddenly. Turning around, he looked at Zeo with confusion until seeing the blood stained knife in his hand. Touching the wound at his lower back, he sees that it's no mistake. "Zeo, what did you do that for?"
"How did you know my name, Rei? I never met you before today."
Still stunned, and with good reason, Rei spoke quietly. "I read it, in the program at the music hall the night I heard you play." Angry, his emotions seeped into his voice. "And I could ask you the same thing. Bart said my lastname when he called out to me earlier, not my first." He moved towards him.
Zeo stepped back, again and again. "I heard it from Tyson." He lied.
"Tyson? Why was he talking about me to you?" He continues advancing on the knife wielding little nut.
"Because he told me that he's tired of seeing you, but you had the nerve to break up with him first." A reach, but a good one.
"What?" Rei was genuinely confused. "First, I don't know why Tyson gave you the impression that we're going out. My boyfriend's name is Bryan. Second, is this how you treat someone that likes you? You stab them? A simple I'm not interested would do. I wasn't going to attack you."
"You.. you like me? Why?" His backwards pace stopped when Rei's stride forward ceased so he could sit down, the cut must have been agitating him. 'Cut? Oh no, I stabbed him!' Reality came slamming into him like a wrecking ball, completely shoving the random love confession out of the way. He's going to be in so much trouble when his father finds out. 'This is not good... Stupid! Stupid! I never should have listened to Kenny!' Seeing Rei wince in pain, he set the knife down and approached. "Let me help you with that."
Rei glared at the panicked musician, then he softened. "There's a first aid kit over there." He points.
"Right."
He dashed away to get it.
"You looked so at peace while you played. I guess I fell for your passion and music."
He listened to Rei speaking in the distance. He was completely blown by this reveal. How can Rei like him? When he came back the young manager was gone. Damn! Looking around he sees the young manager darting through the exit into the main dining area..
"Come back!" Tossing the first aid kit aside, he raced after Rei.
The pursuit was quick and difficult, the chased tossed over chairs when his passing them to reduce Zeo's speedy advantage. Rei ran all the way across to the other side of the restaurant and into an office. But, he wasn't fast enough to lock the door and Zeo charged through, pouncing on him. There was a scuffle, not a long one either. Rei had him pinned fast; like a butterfly in a case.
"This is disgusting. Did you come here to ward me away from Tyson? How dumb are you?"
"How dumb are you? You've been stabbed. Did you even feel it, you baboon!"
"It was a pairing knife, dumbass. They only go in so far," Not to mention, he'd started walking just as the point went in. He was just shocked that it had happened at all. "And if you think that I'm gonna let this slide, you're out of your mind." He punched him across the face, then left the stunned opponent on the floor to grab the phone, he'd come into the office for.
He dialed the police, but wasn't able to tell them what had happened. The little knife found better use across Rei's throat.
By the time the police arrived, Zeo was gone.
