Hey there, I’m still here, just been sick as a dog with a free pass to a fully-stocked fridge. My sincere apologies for the delay!

“Vegeta! We’re here!”
Are you going to answer him? It sounds important.
Vegeta huffed, refusing to surface from Goku’s mind or even open his eyes as he ignored Gohan’s call. //They think everything is important. That last planet wasn't even worth my time; it was more of a mudball than Earth.//
Vegeta and Whis along with Piccolo and Gohan had been travelling the galaxy, searching for a suitable planet for Universe 7’s reborn Saiyan population. Despite the four of them being encased in one of Whis’ spheres as they traveled through space, Vegeta’s back was firmly against Whis’ leg. He spared a bit of himself for a brief check-in and found Whis as calm and amused as ever so he unapologetically settled himself right back into his rapport with Goku back on Earth.
During the past few days Goku had followed through on his threat to keep Vegeta in bed, eating and sleeping. Even though he wasn’t the most cooperative patient, the restrictions were working - all the energy and weight he’d lost in the last week were coming back steadily now that he and Goku were no longer at odds.
However, after days of physical inactivity Vegeta had been ready to climb the walls, leading his mate to follow through on another of his promises - one which kept his mind busy at least. Even now Earth’s Savior was simply an interested passenger in his own mind as he lent his body to Vegeta for the purpose of training Cabba. It was rewarding work; Cabba continued to prove himself an excellent student.
The distraction had been almost enough for Vegeta’s restless spirit, but not quite. Just as the new king began to contemplate a jailbreak from his comfortable bedroom cell Whis had come to his rescue once more. It had taken an hour of convincing and assurances, cajoling and outright yelling but in the end Goku had agreed that Vegeta needed to go on this mission.
Not that Vegeta was going to abide a ‘no,’ not with something this important. But he wouldn’t have felt good about going without agreement between them.
Back on Earth Goku’s lip curled with Vegeta’s irritation. //Damned kid… He’s still lowering his guard on the right side whenever he loses track of his opponent. Other than that I don’t see any more flaws in his technique. You?//
Nope. But I think he’s about to hit his limit for the day. You’d better wrap things up soon.
//All right. Gohan is still yapping at me, I’d better go see what he wants.//
Vegeta smoothly handed back control of his body to Goku and brought them out of the deep communication it required. As usual they both missed it almost immediately.
//This is the last stop for today, I should be home soon. In the meantime make Cabba regret that guard weakness a few times, then stop for the day. He’s coming along nicely. Remember to head over to see Videl soon; she’s still expecting you and Cabba for dinner. And make sure he has time to spend with our oldest brats on his own if you can; they’ve all been nagging me about missing each other when Cabba leaves.//
Hey, you thinking what I’m thinking?
//I doubt it. I don’t have sexual thoughts about bacon.//
Vegeta, c’mon! It was just a dream!
//Fine. Maybe you’re on to something, but it’s too early to be matchmaking. Assuming this all works out, I’ll try to get Cabba back here with us.//
“Come on! You really need to see this!”
“It’s too cold here,” Vegeta growled, coming just out of his conversation with Goku. “I told you! Saiyans need heat. Next planet!”
“This is the last one on the list! It’s only cold because we’re halfway up a mountain. Piccolo says it’s perfect for him.”
Vegeta made a disgusted sound before preparing to leave his deeper rapport with Goku. //I need to deal with this. Kakarot… thank you. For not being a complete asshole about this trip.//
Yeah… I’m sorry for putting up such a fuss about it. I really do understand how important a step this is. Good luck! And remember, you’re supposed to be taking it easy. Don’t expend yourself any more than you have to. No flying, no fighting, and definitely no Transmission!
Goku had been treating him like glass the last few days. It could get annoying sometimes when Vegeta had his mind set on something, but for the most part Goku’s care and attention felt surprisingly good. The twins inside him thrived on it as well; they were the most content when they could feel both of their parents near them. Warmth echoed back to him at the thought from his mate.
I love you too, Vegeta.
Vegeta opened his eyes with a contented sigh. The sight that greeted him was beyond what he’d expected. This was the fifth and final planet Whis had staked out as a new possible Saiyan homeworld in Universe 7. The others had ranged from outright ‘fuck this!’ to simply, ‘something just doesn’t feel right.’
But from the moment he opened his eyes Vegeta knew that this planet was different. The sun was just a tiny dot in the sky but the planet seemed to have life comparable to Earth. The bright reds and yellows of the mountain’s brushy foliage clicked with his years of space travel. “Blue star?” he asked Whis, who nodded with a smile, going into full-on realtor mode to sell this planet.
“We’re significantly farther away from the star than Earth’s own orbit. Since it’s almost twice the size of Earth, it meets your gravity needs and it can sustain a large population if it needs to someday. Though there are very few salt seas here there are plenty of surface water sources, and there are subterranean aquifers in abundance. And quite a few areas of geothermal activity, which means nice, fertile soil. Of course, it gets a little hot here, but I don’t think that will be a problem for you. Piccolo, this is only one of a number of sites that will suit you as well.”
“Fine, fine. Enough with the geography lesson,” Piccolo muttered, though his excitement was plain. “Let’s survey it so His Royal Pain can tell us if we can go home yet.”
Vegeta opened his mouth to retort but Whis stepped in to stop the impending squabble. “Certainly. If you would follow me please?”
Vegeta nodded mutely, putting a hand to Whis’ shoulder. With no small amount of delight, Whis flew the both of them over the miles, leaving Piccolo and Gohan to follow under their own power. Vegeta frowned as they went; something seemed almost familiar about the changing landscape, though only Whis had ever seen it before. “Am I picking up your thoughts or something?”
“No. Maybe something else is happening. You and Gohan both have Goku’s affinity for planetary energies to draw on after all,” Whis answered with a crafty smile. Of all the possible planets they’d viewed today he’d known from the start that this one had the greatest potential. But he also knew how badly Vegeta had needed an outing so he’d saved it for last.
Observing Vegeta and Gohan’s reactions made Whis give himself a well-deserved pat on the back. The two of them keep looking to each other from time to time in puzzlement. The rest of the time they watched the terrain far below them, marking the strange plants and animals that resided here.
When Whis finally landed them in the deep red grasses, the pleasant heat of the planet enfolded them. Tall trees swayed in a stiff breeze and their wide yellow leaves seemed to sigh through the wind.
Whis and Piccolo were silent as Vegeta stepped away from them, drawn by some undeniable instinct. Though this place seemed to be calling to something inside him, this was a decision that belonged to all of his people.
He felt Gohan close by him, and Vegeta reached out to him, to Goku and to their new Guardian. His head began to ache with the strain, but he knew he couldn’t stop there. Vegeta pushed his mind even further, linking to more minds at once than he ever had before. First he brought in Pima and Shishi, then the rest of his children - even those still within him - before stretching to his utmost to bring in Goten and even Cabba, who he now considered to be one of his own people.
He offered himself as a conduit between each of them and the planet on which he now stood. All of those in the link, even those present saw through his eyes, felt through his skin, heard through his ears. He knelt down and dug his fingers through the grass into the black soil and Goku took over from there, letting the ‘feel’ of the planet wash over him and through Vegeta into the rest.
When Vegeta looked up again he saw the sum of each of their hopes on the horizon… cities built strong by Saiyan hands, fields overflowing with crops, scientists and doctors conferring for the benefit of all, people on far-flung worlds sleeping soundly because of Saiyan intervention…
Vegeta called for a consensus and received it almost immediately. And it was completely unanimous, from the youngest minds to the gods among them.
Our home.
Vegeta released the connections, but not before wave after wave of excitement and anticipation reached him from each mind in the link. Strain overtook him quickly and he hissed, stumbling from the pain that lanced through his head. It was, he knew, a consequence of overextending his mental capabilities. The formless thoughts of his unborn children sucked him in and it took him a moment to pull himself back out again, and to figure out how to protect them all from his oversensitivity.
Whis watched him with sympathy; he had seen this happen to his friend before. Piccolo easily drew the proper conclusion and kept his distance. But Gohan only knew that something was wrong, and that he wanted to help.
“Vegeta!” he cried in surprise and worry. Before anyone could warn him away Gohan had grasped his shoulders to steady him. His sleeveless blue jumpsuit left him no barrier between his skin and Gohan’s hands. The physical contact proved to be too much for Vegeta’s oversensitive mind and he was sucked into Gohan's thoughts. Too shocked and overwhelmed to react, Gohan’s human side didn’t have the ability to break away, and his Saiyan side wanted anything but an end to the invasion.
Gohan held at bay the ever-watchful beast that still dwelled inside him with an effort. That was a testament to his willpower, but he couldn’t keep it up forever.
Nor did he have to. It must have been Whis who blasted him because Piccolo was waiting for him, catching him and halting his momentum before he could slam against anything. The world swam for a moment while he struggled with the sudden gain and loss of Vegeta’s mind yet again.
“Well that was a bad idea. How many times have I told you to quit being so touchy with people?!” Piccolo fussed, though Gohan knew him well enough to hear only concern in his gruff tone. “You’re lucky he didn’t fry your brain!”
“Yeah. Been there, done that, wouldn’t recommend it,” Gohan joked back shakily. “I’m okay, really.”
Vegeta’s harsh voice demanded his attention and held it. “No you aren’t. Not by a long shot.” What Vegeta had seen in Gohan’s mind had been enough to worry him. What dwelled inside him, what drove him on was twofold, love and guilt in almost equal measure - for now. His feelings for both Vegeta and his wife, and his love for his family were more than enough to keep him going on the right path; maybe at one point his guilt over what he’d done to Vegeta served a purpose but now it only weighed him down, and it would only get worse as time went on. Strangely the thought made Vegeta angry. Gohan spent so much of his energy beating himself up over something that couldn’t be changed… He’d come so far in the last few years. How much more could he accomplish if he turned that pointlessly-spent energy to more productive things?
“You two. Go back to Earth,” he ordered Piccolo and Whis before nodding in Gohan’s direction. “I need to speak to this one in private.”
Whis’ eyebrows drew together but Piccolo interrupted with a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s go. They’ll be fine.”
“As you wish,” Whis said with no small amount of displeasure, but he did leave with Piccolo.
Gohan flinched when Vegeta turned on him. “You said you wanted to help, to be my hands in Universe 6. Well how the hell am I going to be able to depend on you as much as I need to going forward without wondering if the weight of your guilt is going to crush you? Ask me, and I mean now. It’s long past time to settle this.”
Gohan’s heart went cold. He knew Vegeta to be pragmatic in the extreme. Just because his King had been accepting didn’t mean he’d been forgiven. He swallowed hard, unable to get any words out. The only person Vegeta had ever forgiven for anything before now was his father.
‘And I’m… not him.’
Vegeta’s eyes narrowed at his hesitance. “You can’t serve two masters. If you choose to be a slave to your guilt you will have failed me.”
There was nothing else for it. Gohan dropped to his knees, though out of some instinct or simply because his legs had gone wobbly he didn’t know. It didn’t matter, only Vegeta’s trust mattered. “I know you blame Beerus for most of what I put you through. But we both know that I had a big hand in it too. My own fear of my Saiyan heritage hurt us both. It led to a lack of understanding that made me vulnerable to its call once you changed yourself… I just didn’t know how to resist it.”
Gohan stopped there, swallowing hard and steeling himself. Confession was easy. What had to come next took all his strength. “You trusted me, I loved you, and I hurt you… worse than anyone ever had before. And given its freedom there’s still a part of me that would do it all again - and worse - if I ever gave it the chance. Can you ever forgive me for what I did to you?”
Though Gohan wanted nothing more than to squeeze his eyes shut so he didn’t have to see the judgment in Vegeta’s eyes, he made himself watch.
Vegeta approached, surprisingly thoughtful. He’d assumed this would be a difficult decision. Hell, he’d at least expected to feel the need to kick Gohan through a few mountains before he was ready to say what he needed to say.
But he found he’d already felt those things and worked through them, something he’d never been able to do before his bond with Goku. ‘The idiot has screwed with my head more than I realized,’ he thought. ‘I’ll have to thank him for it later.’
“You’re right. All the hatred I had for you shifted to Beerus once I learned of his tampering with our people, and I used that hatred to kill him. As for you… You did what I asked. You’ve corrected your mistake tenfold, and more than that, you’ve made sure Pan won’t follow in those footsteps. I can forgive you your fear of yourself because it isn’t in you anymore.”
Gohan had had many dreams of this moment. The more positive ones typically ended in an uncontrollable upwelling of emotion, one that led to blubbering and hugs on his part which Vegeta simply endured. But the reality only left him with an incredible calm. Vegeta crossed his arms, a knowing smile curling his lips. Gohan returned it. “Thank you,” he said simply, knowing Vegeta’s oversensitive mind reflected that peace right back to him. “I guess I really did need to hear that.”
“No shit. I hope you feel all better now because this isn’t a conversation I’m having twice. Nor do I ever intend on forgiving anyone ever again. Killing people who piss me off takes far less effort. Can you get back to Earth without me?”
“I think so, but what about you? You’re doing better but Transmitting is going to set you back-”
“I’ll call a taxi.”
Gohan frowned, getting to his feet. “Is that safe? You were in my mind; what if he can’t handle that? … I can’t let him hurt you again.”
“It’s not like before. I can still feel him. He won’t harm me.”
Gohan nodded, trusting Vegeta’s words. “It’s strange. I never thought I could feel at home anywhere but Earth, but… I find myself hoping to live here someday. This is really happening, isn’t it? Everything is going to change soon.”
“I certainly hope so. Now get out of here before our brats neutralize your wife and complete their takeover of your household.”
Gohan left with a smile lodged firmly within him. As soon as his presence faded Vegeta pressed a hand to his forehead, hissing as it throbbed. He knew he couldn’t go back to Earth like this, not with its loud, unshielded minds clanging around in his head.
But he’d already done one uncharacteristic thing in granting Gohan absolution for sins past. What was one more shocker after that?
//Kakarot. I need you.//
His call for help was answered before he’d even completed it. Goku stood before him, shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot. While he knew Vegeta didn’t return his son’s feelings, he did recognize that Vegeta did care for Gohan, probably more deeply than he realized. It was going to take time before those little moments of intimacy between them didn’t feel like a challenge to his own place in Vegeta’s heart.
Vegeta could feel his mate’s uncertainty as though it were his own. But unlike other times there was no violence in him, no need to erase a rival’s presence.
‘I can work with that,’ Vegeta thought.
“You… um… you said you needed me so I came as fast as I could.” Goku wanted to touch him, hold him but he didn’t know if Vegeta could handle being swept into someone else’s mind again, even if it was his own mate.
Vegeta had other plans though. The press of too many minds was a problem. As he saw it, invasion of the one mind he truly craved was the solution.
Goku’s mouth went dry as Vegeta began disrobing, starting with his gloves. //Our descendants are going to reshape the universe… and they’ll do it from here. We can both feel it.//
Goku nodded slowly, ensnared not only in the planet’s call and Vegeta’s view of the future, but in the spell of Vegeta’s desire. His gaze swept hungrily over each new bit of flesh until it was all bared to his gaze. The barely noticeable swell of his stomach was going to start getting bigger very soon and Goku had the sudden urge to touch, to feel that unaccustomed softness under his fingertips.
But it hadn’t been long since he’d brought violence into their relationship, he’d hurt his pregnant mate and scared them both. Since then they’d been taking it slow, but he knew Vegeta wasn’t going to be satisfied with the soft kisses and touches they’d exchanged over the past few days. Are you sure…? I didn’t think you’d be ready for this so soon, I don’t want you to be afraid I’m going to hurt you again-
//Your mind went blank when you lost control with me, and I can feel you right now. Besides, fear never suited either one of us. I won’t let it keep us apart.// Vegeta turned and walked a few steps away - tail swishing temptingly behind him - before he went to the ground, reclining in the grass. Goosebumps rose on Goku’s skin as he felt the grass tickling his mate’s bare flesh. Despite his own thoughts of caution, Vegeta’s devilish smile and effective seduction pulled him forward. //It looks like you see something you want. So why are you still standing there with your clothes on?//
I… uh…
//I was thinking this planet couldn’t really be ours if you hadn’t fucked me into it. So here I am, waiting for you to come. Fuck. Me.//
I- I didn’t bring any lube or- Vegeta seemed to give up on him, beginning to fist his own cock in slow, lazy strokes. The sight of Vegeta pleasuring himself was a rare one, and it was enough to knock Goku out of both his role as caretaker and his insecurity.
Screw it. I’ll just get some out of you.
Vegeta’s triumphant smile didn’t last long, as soon as Goku touched him a feedback loop of one another’s arousal and excitement formed, carrying them both away for hours. By the time Goku managed to Transmit them back to their home Vegeta was so soundly asleep that he didn’t even wake up as Goku settled them both into bed.
Only one part of him even moved… his tail. And Goku smiled his way into sleep to feel it curling around his leg.
I love you too, Vegeta.
