The Fight to be Free

Sorry it\'s taken so long to get this chapter up but I got sidetracked and I also wanted to go back and check over what I\'d alrerady had. So anyway read and hopefully enjoy.

Chapter Five - To the Lab

Max ushered Rei, Kai, Tyson, Oliver and Tala through the door of the medical testing facility that his mum worked at.
It had taken a lot of sweet talking, from both Rei and himself, to get the others past security. Derek Stemson, the head security guard, finally cracked when Rei had wrapped his arms around the forty-five year olds neck pleading with a small mew and big watering eyes.

Now they were standing in front of the security door to his mother’s lab. Reaching up he entered the security code into the automated lock. Pressing the enter key it started to beep before the doors opened with a hiss.

Walking in Max walked straight over to the desk and started rifling through the papers that were scattered on it. Finding what he was looking for he picked it up and started reading it.

“Mum’s further along than we thought. She’s up to the trial. She must have been working on this day and night,” Max said turning to Rei, “No wonder she got sick.”

Rei had his head in a fridge looking over the bottles there. Reaching further in he found what he was looking for. Pulling out one he turned towards Max and shook the bottle from side to side a big grin on his face.

“What’s that?” Tyson asked.
“It’s a special little injection that will hopefully solve a problem that our kind have had for over a millennia,” Max said.
“Oh and what problem is that?” Oliver asked.
“Well you’ve probably noticed that those with Guardian Spirits tend to gravitate towards their own sex for relationships. So therefore there is no descendant to take on the Spirits. This in turn means that when we die the Spirits have to find a new person who is worthy of controlling them and because getting surrogate mothers can contaminate our blood most steered away from that choice. When a male gets an injection of this his DNA is slightly altered so that for two weeks he is fertile. Then if they happen to fall pregnant this allows their body to adjust. For each child you want you need another injection. It’s too dangerous at this point to make it a permanent thing but we know how too,” Rei explained.

When he’d finished all but Max were staring at him like he was completely insane.

“What?… How?… You mean that I c…could have babies? As in pop them out of me babies?” Tala said.
“I think it’s an absolutely brilliant idea,” Oliver squealed, “How’d you do it? Is it tested? Could I get the injection?”
“Well it hasn’t actually been tested on anyone as of yet. Rei and I were meant to do that when mum had finished and we‘d found someone to well you know,” Max said but seeing Oliver’s face fall he added, “But I’m sure she be ecstatic to have more test subjects if you’re interested?”

Seeing Oliver’s face light up again Max grinned. He turned to Rei to get his thoughts on whether Oliver would be a good candidate only to see Kai whisper something in Rei’s ear. Whatever Kai said made Rei blush bright red and shiver but he could see that Rei‘s eyes had gone soft, something that meant that his best friend was happy.

Max had a fair idea of what Kai had said and he hoped that the bluenette wouldn’t hurt or abandon Rei like most before him had.

“So what you’re saying,” Tyson said, “Is that you could give Tala the injection. Then he goes back and sleeps with Bryan and Robert who, in turn, impregnates him.”
“Yes,” Max stated simply.
“How in gods name did you do it?” Tala asked.
“Well men have both the X and the Y chromosome. What we did is found a cell that alters our X chromosome slightly allowing us to fall pregnant,” Max explained.

He really didn’t feel like going in-depth about the whole thing. Not because he would feel it a burden but because it was too complicated to understand and it would also bring up some things about Rei that he didn’t want to answer. It had taken himself four years to drag that information out of his friend.

“So,” Max spoke up holding up a syringe and the bottle, “Who wants it?”
“I really should discuss this with Bryan and Robert,” Tala said.
“When have you ever sought their opinion on anything,” Kai asked smirking at the red head.
“You’re right,” Tala said smirking himself, “Count me in. Just seeing the looks on Bryan and Robert’s faces when I announce that I’m pregnant will be worth it. But I’ll only take it if Rei does.”

Rei who, with a grimace on his face, had also been preparing a needle with the correct amount paused before slowly turning his head to look at Tala who was smirking at him with an eyebrow raised.
Rei gulped before nodding.


“Max can I talk to you for a sec?” Tyson whispered from where he was beside the blonde.
“Sure,” Max said.

He and Tyson walked over to the desk where Max leaned back on it. Tyson stood before him shifting from foot to foot.
Max immediately felt his heart fly.

“Max I know we haven’t known each other for long,” Tyson said softly, “Hell we’ve only known each other since last night but I like you. I mean really like you and Dragoon’s telling me to follow my heart. He also says that your Guardian Spirit Draciel is his opposing Spirit. I don’t want it to seem that I only want this to try and get you pregnant. I’d even wait off until we got to know each other a bit more and…”

Tyson didn’t get to finish what he was going to say because Max had silenced him with a kiss.

Rei grinned as the two kissed before shaking his head and turning back to Tala who had the sleeve of his shirt rolled up. Rei grabbed an alcohol swab and wiped Tala’s arm with it before binning it. Taking the needle which Kai was holding he injected it into the redhead’s arm.
Tala winced but bared it. Oliver who’d already got his was sitting on one of the lab benches his legs swinging back and forth.

“Okay it’ll take maybe a day or two to get fully into your system but once it does you may feel a crawling sensation in your lower belly for two weeks, nothing drastic. During those two weeks your fertile and can fall pregnant after a month we’ll conduct a pregnancy test. That is if you aren’t hurling your guts,” Rei said to the two of them while preparing another shot, “Your turn Max, that is if Tyson can spare you for a couple of minutes?”

Max and Tyson pulled apart blushing slightly.

Rei swabbed Max’s arm and gave him the injection. After that he made sure to safely bin the three needles in the sharps bin and threw their syringe ends in the other bin.

“Alright since we’re done here let’s head back. I could do with a nap,” Rei said walking towards the door.

The five other occupants all shared a glance before Kai extended his arm and wrapped it around Rei’s waist. Tala grabbed another alcohol swab and opened the packet while Max prepared another needle.

“Now, now Rei you promised that if I got it you would too,” Tala said as he walked up to them.

Behind Rei’s back he gave Kai the swab.

“Tala’s right you did promise him. You should know needles aren’t that bad,” Kai said rubbing his hand up and down Rei’s upper arms, swabbing the left arm without Rei knowing. Then pulling Rei close he kissed him deeply while handing Tala the used swab and lifting up Reis shirt sleeve.

Max smirked and gave the unsuspecting Rei the injection. Max tapped Kai’s leg with his foot when he was done.
Kai pulled away, placing a small kiss on Rei’s forehead.
Rei turned to Max to tell him to get the syringe ready only to find Max standing beside him with an empty syringe.
All Rei could do was blink.

“How’d you do that? I didn’t even feel it,” Rei asked.
“Magic,” Kai said grinning and kissing Rei’s nose making the confused man sneeze.
“Stop doing that,” Rei whined.

Kai chuckled pulling Rei in for another kiss.

“Rei mentioned a nap,” Max said yawning, “I think he’s got the right idea.”
“Should you leave that stuff here?” Tyson asked looking at Max who was walking over to a fridge that Rei had been in earlier, it held all sort of chemicals and blood samples, “Will it be safe?”
“This fridge has a special false compartment equipped with a lock. Even if this fridge is trashed completely no-one will find it,” Max reassured.
“Cool,” Tyson said.
“Yeah I’d hate to have that stuff fall into the wrong hands,” Tala said.
“I understand,” Max said shutting the fridge, “Let’s get out of here.”
