A Punch Between Friends
Gah! I'm back once again, and probably losing fanbase with all this 'no posting for months' sort of deal. I actually had to go back and read what I'd already written to make sure I got all the points right. I need a beta, not only that, but I need someone to get on my case to make my posts. Hope you enjoy.
Also, to my reviewers, the pairings won't be fully set, at all through this fiction. I had a few reviews asking me to throw Duo and Heero together, well, that's not going to happen for a while- if it's going to happen at all. Give me some time, they're supposed to be enemies, and as far as I know, enemies don't jump into bed without some reason or another. Expect a mix of almost all pairings, as my pairing taste changes daily and Wuffy's just too cute not to have a flirtatious Duo play with.
I hope you like this installment of Agen High.

Duo was happy to leave the stuffy building when the last bell finally rang; all in all, it had turned out to be an okay first day, though he had to admit he was not only dreading the thought of getting on the bus to get home, but also having to pick up the history textbook from Wufei. The braided troublemaker grinned slightly though, “He is pretty cool if he wouldn’t hang out with those two goons.” Duo murmured to himself, tossing his books into the assigned locker and slung his empty book bag back over his shoulder. His last period had been a study period for him, beings he’d missed the sign up date for most extracurricular classes; though the guidance office had told him to stop by tomorrow to see if there was anything to do. Even if he had just newly moved, it wouldn’t stop colleges from frowning at the sight of a lazy freshman. The mere thought of the future, of college, set Duo’s teeth in his black painted thumbnail for a moment, “What college ‘ll want me..?” He whispered, then jumped aside as a heavy fist banged against the locker only inches from his ear, “No respectable college would want someone like you.” The owner of the fist hissed, and Duo tensed slightly at the voice, “Well, well, Barton…” He spun slowly to confront the emerald eyed teen and had to choke back a laugh at the dark bruise that marred the boy’s face, “…you should really put some ice on that..” The moment the words left his lips, Duo knew he was in for one helluva beating. The halls weren’t cluttered with students, many of them having had their own licenses and able to drive home the moment the bell rang, others had the mind to just stay out of what was happening. Trowa threw the first punch, aiming for Duo’s nose, who moved just in time to have the punch glance off his cheek. It hurt. A lot, a dribble of red slid down his cheek where the other teen’s class ring had cut the skin. Duo’s space was limited, practically pinned against the locker, he could only attempt to make sure the punches aimed at him didn’t hit anything to cause any serious damage; not that he didn’t take any shots back. The braided teen was able to land one or two punches to the other brunette’s open stomach and one to his jaw. The two would have probably gone at it until one of them was dead or unconscious if it wasn’t for Wufei.
The dark haired oriental had shown up only seconds before Trowa had thrown the first punch, and though he sympathized with one of his best friends, he knew that Duo wasn’t as bad as everyone seemed to want to think, and that’s what fueled him to grab a hold of Barton’s shoulders and roughly drag him away from Duo, who was sporting a bloody nose to go along with the cut on his cheek. Wufei kept a rough grip on his friend, and moments later became just another target for Trowa’s anger. The taller boy spin in the grip that the oriental had on him and launched a swift punch at Wufei’s jaw. The black haired teen would have easily dodged the punch if it wasn’t for the suddenness, and the fact that it was coming from one of his best friends. When Trowa finally got ahold of himself, he was towering over Wufei, who was sporting a nice darkening bruise on his cheek bone and a slightly bloody nose; at that moment Trowa knew that standing there, or even trying to help Chang would have just been asking for retaliation. He bolted. Duo slowly slid down the lockers, one hand holding his nostrils closed, the other supporting himself as he inched over to Wufei, who was still looking dazed, “E..eh…Wu’..?” The braided teen murmured softly, not leaning too close to the oriental, but still being within arm’s reach. “FUCK~!” Random obscenities, both Chinese and English flew from Wufei’s lips as he hitched himself up and pressed fingertips lightly to his nose and cheek, “Damn that Barton…!” Duo stared silently, a bit worried at the dramatic eyetic that was developing on Wufei’s face, “Err…Wuffy….calm down…” Duo mumbled softly, watching the other teen silently for a moment before bursting into a fit of laughter, “Man, Wu! Barton sure packs a punch, ne?!” That sure got Wufei’s attention, who managed to ignore his anger long enough to simply stare at the insanity that was Duo Maxwell, “I mean, man! I thought he was going to take my head off! And you went down like a ton of bricks!! Wrestler my ass, you’d be killed on the streets..” The brunette kept rambling, not paying attention to the twitch of Wufei’s lips as he attempted to not laugh himself; which was quite hard despite the fact that they were sore and a bit bloody. Eventually the two managed to get themselves enough under control to stand, leaning on each other, and head for the bathroom to clean up before they missed their bus. “Hey, Wu..?” The nickname earned a twitch, but Wufei let it go, “What, Maxwell?” If Duo wasn’t going to keep his part of the bargain then Wufei wasn’t going to keep his, “…Why’d you help me?” A small misstep made Wufei stumble slightly, but he quickly righted himself, “Why do you ask?” His tone was gruff, but a small blush was building on his cheek bones as he slid up to the sink to inspect the damage done by his friend’s fist, “Well, I mean, you got a pretty nice shiner for your trouble, I’d just like to know why….” The oriental boy frowned, then gave a small sigh as he wetted down a paper towel and went about wiping gently at his nose, “…He would have really hurt you, and even if you’re stupid and annoying, you’re not all that bad.” The braided boy took a moment to process his new friend’s words, trying to decide whether that was an insult or a compliment, deciding he’d had enough fighting for the day, took it as a compliment, “…Well, thanks, Wuffy…you’re not so bad yourself if you’d just drop the whole ‘Holier than Thou’ attitude.” Duo teased gently, cleaning up the streaked blood on his own face swiftly, giving a small grin. Wufei twitched and resisted the urge to slap him over the back of the head, “…My name is WuFEI, Duo, FEI, not Wuffy or Wu, or whatever other ‘nickname’ you can come up.” Sharp black eyes narrowed lightly on teasing contacted eyes, “…Okay, ‘Fei, I have to be going, the buss will be around soon..” With that, Duo walked off, tossing his wad of bloodstained paper towel into the trash as he did so. Wufei stared silently at his back for a long moment, before yell erupted from the bathroom, making Duo’s pace pick up to a near run, “IT’S WUFEI, NOT FEI, MAXWELL!!!!”
Duo was still laughing softly as he made it out the front doors, knowing the thudding steps behind him was Wufei giving half-hearted chase. The brunette paused a moment to wait for the oriental as he came bursting through the door, what he didn’t count on was that Wufei wouldn’t stop. In the end they were both sore once more, a jumble of limbs and hair on the cement walkway that led down to the drive where the buses waited for students, “Fuck!” Duo growled, pushing Wufei’s hair out of his face to rub at the back of his head, Wufei was a bit less worse for wear, sitting up slowly and attempting to salvage whatever dignity he had left, “You were supposed to keep running, idiot.” He mumbled, blushing to the roots of his midnight black hair. The braided teen looked up at the person that attempted to mow him down and broke into laughter once more, “I was supposed to keep running?! Why didn’t you stop?!” “I tried!” Wufei snarled, leaning closer to the brunette, who just kept up with his mocking laughter. “Sure you did! We both know you just wanted to touch me.” Duo jeered teasingly, then fell quiet as Wufei smirked coolly, “Maybe I did.” Slowly the oriental sat up, standing slowly and attempting to fix his slightly out of place hair; this time it was Duo blushing, though only slightly, as he stared at the other, before shaking his head and batting Wufei’s hands away, “Leave it, the slight messiness makes it look cool.” Indeed, the few strands that had been too short to be properly held in place by the hair band had chosen to curve down around Wufei’s face, framing the slightly feminine features. Normally Wufei would have just batted back and fixed his hair, but he appreciated the small, though teasing, wolf whistle that Duo gave and made his way to his feet, “Fine, but get up, we’re going to miss the bus, and if we do, you get to pay for my cab.” Wufei shot over his shoulder as he started down the walk, dodging through the slightly thick throng of students all vying for the chance to get on their bus. Duo hurried to catch up, his mind so caught up on Wufei and the possibility of missing their bus, that he never noticed the slightly hurt look that had lit across the features of a nearby blonde’s face.
The two of them managed to climb on the bus rather quickly, and were surprised to see that some people still hadn’t gotten on the bus either. Duo’s eyes narrowed sharply at the back of the bus, where Trowa was buried in a book and Heero’s eyes were deadly slivers of ice. The brunette gave the third member of the little group a quick glance, and was surprised to see Wufei give him a small smile in response before the teen moved to take his spot in the center of the seats in the back. Heero’s eyes flashed dangerously as he spotted the smile, making note of the twin bruises that adorned both his step-brother’s, and the newb’s face; that would explain why Trowa looked so stricken as he’d cleaned blood off his knuckles, and why Wufei refused to even look Barton’s way when the slender teen attempted to apologize. Duo slipped into the first empty seat he came across, having looked for Quatre for a few moments before giving up his search and deciding to chose a seat while he still had the choice to sit somewhere where he wasn’t going to be pummeled. Duo decided on pulling on his headphones since it was clear that the chance of someone talking to him was less than zero and lost himself in his own thoughts.
Being the last one on the bus had it’s perks, as he was the first one off that afternoon, even chancing a small glance back at Yuy, Chang, and Barton and surprised once again to see a slight smile on Chang’s lips, and a mouthing of ‘See you later’. Duo was quick to dart off the bus when he seen the murderous look that Heero shot his brother, not wanting to see the possibly impending bloodshed.
