Halloween Bets

Chapter 5



I got up from the couch and walked over to the door, opened it and walked out, bodily moving Sally out of my doorway into the hall. I called back to Duo while looking Sally straight in the eye, “I’ll be just a second,” and I shut the door behind me. She raised an eyebrow in question.



I grinned goofily. Her other eyebrow raised as well, and I chuckled, running a hand through my hair. Her eyes widened in shock, then she blinked a couple of times before a huge grin broke out on her face. In a rare moment of absolute girlishness from her, she squealed and hugged me tightly. “I can’t believe it,” she whispered. “You two, finally?”



I nodded, then shushed her. “Quiet. I don’t know where this is going yet, or what, or, or,” I stuttered, stumbling over all of the words that wanted to rush out of me – which was a very strange feeling. Then I just shrugged at her.



And that is when I noticed the lack of bags in her hands. “Where’s the stuff?” I asked, looking, I’m sure, confused and concerned all at once.



She smiled that evil smile that she had been giving me all week (which, up until now, I had preferred to the pitying one that she had also been giving me all week) and stated matter-of-factly, “The other lady of the evening is bringing them up. I’m sure he’ll be along shortly.”



“So Trowa’s here too, huh?” She nodded. I sighed.



Time to inform Duo.



I turned back to the door, opening it and stepping inside, Sally following close behind. I heard a thud from down the hall behind me. Sally and I both turned around to see Trowa juggling a few bags at the end of the hallway.



“Help? Please?” Trowa asked, eyes pleading as they turned to me.



“Fine,” I said, and walked back out into the hall to him and took two of the bags, then turned back toward my apartment. All three of us filed into the apartment, Duo sitting on the couch looking quizzically at us and our bags.



“Hey Duo,” Sally said with a wink as she walked toward the hallway.



“Um, hello?” Duo responded. He looked at me, confusion written all over his face.



Just a sec, I mouthed to him. “Trowa, you know where everything is.” He nodded in response. After all, he, Quatre, and Wufei had all been over to our apartment numerous times in the past. “You two go on I’ll be there in a few minutes,” I walked back over to the couch and sat down next to Duo. He had been sitting there watching the procession with interest.



“So?”



Oh, where to begin. Oh yeah, the beginning. Ouch.

“You remember last week? You know, when it was made, uh, evident to us that we were,” I paused, not really wanting to remember what Quatre pulled, but not knowing really how to explain the bet.



He smirked, “Yeah I remember.”



“Well,” I paused. It was probably going to sound bad no matter how I said it, so I decided that just coming out and saying was probably the best idea. “IlostabettoQuatresoIhavetodresslikeawomanfortheHalloweenPartytonight.”



“Come again?” he asked, eyebrows raised, looking at me like I was somewhat crazy.



“I lost a bet to Quatre so,”



“Betting against Quatre is never a good idea,” Duo interrupted. I gave him a look that said, quite plainly: Ya think?! “Sorry. Please go on,” he added.



“So I have to dress like a woman at the party tonight,” I finished, looking at him from the side.



He nodded, which I found a little odd, but then he said, “So what was the bet about?”



Ah, the moment of truth. Can anyone please insert: Awkward! here? Thank you.



“The bet was on whether or not you were,” pause, “gay.” I stared at the carpet, then stole a quick glance up at him to see if he was pissed or not.



He started laughing.
