Chapter Five

A/N: For those of you confused at the end of the chapter, the “statement” was taken from the previous chapter.

Capsule Corp.

The top distributor of modern technology to the world, and also one of the most commodious and elaborate buildings in all of Japan, with 7,000 employees, more than 150 rooms and still the Brief’s were constantly adding on to the building.

The building was always in a state of commotion, never ending noise filled with reporters, staff, and machinery. However with it being ran by the infamous Bulma Briefs, it was always organized commotion, everyone knew where they were going, and what their agenda was for the day. The top two floors of the building were untouchable to any employee because that was the living quarters of the Brief’s family and of course, Vegeta.

I arrived there expecting to hear not only the loud clatter of the employees but also, the addition of Vegeta’s screaming and Bulma’s ranting.

I heard nothing…

Not even a phone ringing or the typing on a computer…

Not even the faintest of footsteps, it was absolutely and eerily quiet.

Vegeta, being the master strategist must have sensed me coming there, and masked his power quicker than the blink of an eye, but by the time he did this I had already teleported to where he had been, and there were still traces of his maleficent energy still left in the air.

I tried to detect Bulma’s life force, tried to scan out to feel if she were still in the proximity.

She wasn’t…or at least I thought she wasn’t.

Vegeta could’ve killed her and stuffed her into a closet somewhere.

The thought of that caused a nervous chill to travel down my spine, and my throat dried almost completely. I breathed deeply, trying to calm myself and leaned up against the wall for support.

Slowly I began to take in my surroundings and I became suddenly aware of something.

The walls had cracks in them…

There was only one thing capable of cracking the foundation of a building.

And that thing certainly, was not human.

A foreboding feeling came over me and I began walking around checking the rooms to see if there was anyone there. I even called out and said “Is anyone there?!” and received no answer in return.

The only logical explanation for this was that Vegeta had powered up, and may have possibly gone Super Saiyan. That may have possibly been the spike of his power level that I had felt not even 10 minutes ago.

Bulma…

Was she dead or alive, and where was Vegeta?

I continued searching the building, looking through each floor, seeing only the deep crevices in the walls and papers scattered everywhere, I even saw a shoe that seemed to be left by someone who was desperate to get out of capsule corp. A cold sweat broke out all over my body, and I realized something, there was a strong current of wind coming from the staircases.

As I slowly made my way to the top of the building, I came to a horrid discovery.

There was no top of the building…

The floors that contained the gravity room, the den, and the living quarters were gone. I was looking up at the sky from where I was standing, and I had been rendered speechless from the sight.

I came to the conclusion, that since the first three floors of the building were still standing, Vegeta blew up the entire proximity that he must’ve been in, and I am pretty sure that the people who were on those particular floors probably died with the explosion.

If so, then Bulma was…

No, she couldn’t be.

I concentrated hard, and once again searched the area for the Prince, even though I knew if Vegeta didn’t want to be found, he wouldn’t be, still I tried desperately and got no results.

Suddenly, I felt Bulma’s life force flare up, it was very faint but enough for me to lock on to, instantly I transported there and drop to my knees at the sight of her.

Her body was sprawled out on the ground, about 20 feet from Capsule Corp. I was relieved to find her still alive, but she was not in good condition. Her clothes were charred and torn, and her skin was so translucent, it was almost as if I could see her skeleton.

She stared up at me, her usual turquoise eyes now took on a pale grey color, and usually moist red lips, now dry and lackluster. Each shallow breath she took seemed to be paining her, and body began trembling uncontrollably.
Tears began forming in my eyes, and I looked away from her, noticing now that there were hundreds of bodies lying in the vicinity in the same condition as Bulma, or worse.

I began to sob…

Was this all because of me?

Because of us?

Faintly I heard Bulma muttering something repeatedly. I pulled myself together, and tried to concentrate on her words. When I realized what she was saying, an excessive amount of terror shook me to the core.

“My baby, my baby...my baby.”

Local Authorities say Capsule Corp experienced a gas leak which due to the usage of smoking in the facility let to a vast explosion, which injured 150 and claimed the lives of 20 employees, including the life of the newest addition to the Briefs family, Baby Bulla. Families, friends and loved ones have gathered at the grand building to pay homage to those lives lost in the explosion. There are still no comments from the Briefs family, only a representative for the family has reported that Bulma Briefs is still in critical condition at West City Hospital.

The evening news announced the story once again in the hospital room. This had been the topic of conversation worldwide for the last week. The conclusion that the detectives and police had drawn was that a gas leak had been the cause of the explosion.

However, I knew different as did Bulma.

We had been able to persuade everyone else that the stories heard in the news were true, including her parents and Trunks. This didn’t do anything to cover over the pain that the family was facing, and I knew all too well that Trunks was not only suffering from the lost of his sister, but also the pain of not knowing where his father could’ve gone.

It had been a week since I had found Bulma lying in that sea of living dead in the lawns of Capsule Corp., and had flown her over to the hospital where they were able to save her fleeting life.

For the first few days, she had been unconscious, the doctors worked diligently to stabilize her condition and to reduce the pain she was feeling. By the fourth day, she had finally woken up and was fully conscious and she seemed a bit relieved to see me. A few hours later her parents and my family had come to lend their support. They had asked what happened, and I repeated the lie that had been told to the world.

Bulma was completely withdrawn, giving fake smiles and trying to reassure everyone that she was ok. The Briefs told her they had hired a contractor in order to repair the damage to the building and that they were in the process of restoring everything back to the way it was.

No amount of money, or construction could repair the pain in a parent from knowing their child died before they did.

Or the haunting fact, that she might have been partly responsible for her daughter’s death.

Bulla’s body wasn’t even found, meaning it disintegrated in the blast.

After everyone went home, we were alone, and I was happy that for the first time in the week she was awake, but it killed me to know that she was in emotional and physical agony.

I looked toward her, and caught her eyes with mine. We stared at each other for what seemed to be forever, although the room was silent, a million words were being exchanged.

She looked away from me and stared out the window, her eyes looked blank, no emotion seemed to pass through them for a few moments, and I figured she was lost in thought.

Even after all this time, I still didn’t know the true details of what took place that day.

I just knew the aftermath of it…

Vegeta, where are you?

This was one of the questions that had plagued my mind day after grueling day. Had he found out about me and Bulma, and entered into a bitter rage that blinded him to his surroundings? Or did Bulma provoke him into an enraged state by not revealing who she was engaging in illicit acts with?

So many questions and no answers…

I ran a shaky hand through my hair and thought about asking her what happened, I had been patient for the last four days and I was running out of it. I didn’t want to push her; I knew she was dealing with a lot, but…

“Goku.” She whispered, barely audible to the human ear, but fortunate for me, I wasn’t human.

“Yes.” I replied.

“Is this real?” She asked, turning to me now and peering up at me like a child trying to decipher between reality and fantasy.

I simply nodded.

She began trembling and shaking her head wildly, muttering once again like before.

“My baby, my baby, my baby…”

I walked over to her bedside, and gently, place my hands on her shoulders. She stopped muttering but stared off in the distance. I sat down on the edge of the bed and told her to look at me, when she finally did; I asked her what happened that day.

She started trembling again, and I quickly regretted bringing it up.

“My baby…”

I felt tears well up in my eyes again. There were many questions that needed answers, but one thing was certain. The both of us played a part in the unfortunate demise of an innocent child.

That was something that I would have to live with for the rest of my life.

Outside the door, I heard a nurse say, “Sir, you can’t go in there,” followed by a guttural scream, running footsteps and a shout for security.

My heart stopped, and I automatically knew…

Vegeta is here.

I pulled all of the plugs out of Bulma’s skin; she screamed and looked at me, not understanding what I was doing. I thought quickly to a place where she would be safe, and I grabbed on to her hand and phased out of the hospital.

We reappeared in a room on Kami’s lookout, I yelled for someone to come in there and Mr.Popo appeared in an instant.

“Goku, what are you doing here?” He looked completely shocked, looking from me to Bulma and back again.

“Mr.Popo I don’t have any time to explain, I have to get back to West City, please take care of Bulma.” I phased out and returned back to the hospital.

I reappeared back in Bulma’s hospital room, looking all around for the prince.

“I’m here.”

I turned around and saw him entering into the room.

“Vegeta!” I yelled, my anger began taking over me and I had to try and calm myself before my energy spiraled out of control.

Vegeta smirked and slowly walked over to me, he was dressed in all black and his iniquitous energy was rolling off of him in waves. The look in his eyes was unreadable, but I was able to feel his murderous intent while he was terrorizing the hospital staff only a few moments ago.

“Where is Bulma?” He demanded to know, his evident bloodlust for the demise of his spouse lacing through his voice.

“I don’t know.” I said, taking a few steps back from him, “How could you kill all those people over a situation that between you and her?” I asked angrily.

His confident smirk melted off his face to be replaced by a look of contempt, his eyes narrowed and his ki began whirling around him.

“I will do what I want, when I want, I answer to no one.” He said in an animalistic growl.

My ki began encircling me as well, “YOU KILLED YOUR OWN DAUGHTER!”

Before I could take my next breath, his fist slammed into my face…

Before I could yell, his foot connected with my gut and I stumbled backwards into the window, shattering it.

Vegeta grabbed my shirt to keep me from dropping and a strong wind gushed in from the outside.

Suddenly Vegeta stepped back from me, letting me go, I pulled myself up and looked at him, gasping to fill air back into my lungs.

He inhaled deeply, closing his eyes, and then he opened them. He turned slowly to me, his eyes narrowing again.

In a deadly whisper, he spoke.

“You son of a bitch.”

“He said he can smell another male on her, and it’s not long before he’ll be able to identify the scent.”
