I also do not own the song or lyrics One Night in Bangkok by Murry Head.
I had no idea that the song was actually part of a larger stage show named ‘Chess’ written by Benny Andersson, Bjor Ulvaeus and Tim Rice. Which I own no rights to either.
I am not making any money from this work of fanfiction.
A/N- This is actually a G/V get together fic. However, some of the other pairings may surprise you. :) I think there’s only one cannon couple in here. Obviously VERY A/U.
I hope this is a fun read for anyone who may be interested in such a combination.
Beta’d by Hoshi. Thank you Hoshi! (And thanks to rdk for catching a few others).
(DBZ/chess (the game, not the play.))
Rating – PG13 – or at least that’s what I was hoping for.
Warnings – OOC, A/U, mentions and kisses of M/M, mentions and kisses of M/F, chess, foul language, some minor roles of OC’s.
Round 4
~o0o~
Goku closed his eyes in relief as he bled his bladder.
He hoped his sister wouldn’t get pushy. The fact Vegeta had shown up with a beauty of a princess in tow made him think that what ever he had felt when he had first connected with the prince in the hallway wasn’t worth feeling.
He hated the disappointment that usually came with finding someone attractive only to be certain they would never reciprocate his feelings. He’d had his hopes dashed too many times to show his intentions often. No one had ever quite fit the role right. Getting tangled up with someone with as much lime light as he had and then if it didn’t work out? He didn’t want Capsule Corporation to have to fend off the wolves. It was never worth it.
And what if the other person didn’t have the same social status? He’d hate to ruin another person’s life for a maybe. He’d feel so miserable he’d probably stay with the person just so they would never have to feel shame.
However, in this situation, the ‘what if’s’ were overwhelming. To the point when he finally stopped daydreaming he found he had been holding himself for too long. “CRAP!” he said out loud as he looked around quickly. Goku breathed a sigh of reprieve when his searching revealed there was no one else in the washroom with him.
“That would have been embarrassing,” he said to himself as he shook himself and tucked himself in. His boxers were certainly more restraining than they had been before he had walked in.
He turned to the sinks to wash his hands. The straining wasn’t fading. “Fuck,” he said to himself. He grabbed a couple of towels from the dispenser to dry his hand with and then buttoned the bottom of his suit jacket, but it still wasn’t enough to hide facts. At this rate it was going to take the full hour between the time the last game of the first round finished and the second round began before he could show his face.
And possibly some ice.

Vegeta was very glad Chichi was at the tournament with him. He had never been good at idle chat. Chichi was a genius when it came to small talk. Of course, she did have the advantage of knowing ‘common’ people. The corporate stiffs certainly found some of the farmers’ antics humorous. It was a glance into other peoples’ lives they probably rarely even thought about.
He even found himself grinning from time to time as he sat listening while sipping at a drink called ‘whiskey’. As a prince and an elite he rarely had this kind of contact with the other classes. The stories were as enlightening as they were entertaining.
And yet…he found himself looking for Bulma’s sibling more than he was listening to Chichi’s stories. He didn’t liked to admit this to himself, let alone to anyone else. It was bad enough that he even had to admit to himself that it was more than just business interest.
“Hasn’t your bother been gone for an awfully long time?” the blonde bombshell named ‘Jane’ asked the blue haired heiress during a lull in Chichi’s story telling.
Bulma scanned around the room at this statement. She hardly ever worried about her brother’s where about unless she happened to be in trouble. He was more than able of taking care of himself. “Now that you mention it, I am surprised he’s not back.”
“He’s probably found the buffet,” Eddie said jokingly. Everyone with the exceptions of Chichi and Vegeta laughed at this comment.
Chichi didn’t know why this would cause everyone to chuckle.
Vegeta thought the idea of food was a great idea. “Now that food has been mentioned, I don’t think I’ll be able to concentrate until I’ve had my fill.”
Chichi’s eyes widened when he said this. There was no way the tournament would be prepared for the gorging she had witnessed just hours before. She and some help had spent days prepping dishes that would keep for a couple of days refrigerated and the whole day of the prince’s visit (and a couple of ground ovens) cooking the meats that wouldn’t the day of his visit.
“Uh…” she started to try to warn everyone off from the idea, but it was too late.
Bulma reached for Chichi’s arm. “Well, I am going to go and find my brother. Anyone else coming along?” she asked. She gave a pointed look in Vegeta’s direction.
Vegeta didn’t have to be asked twice. He stood and straightened out his over coat. How humans found such a temperature acceptable, he had no idea. Of course, they did only have one sun in this galaxy.
“Bulma,” Chichi whispered to her escort as they started in a direction, “This isn’t a good idea.”
Bulma looked at her acquaintance as she kept moving. “Why not?”
Chichi couldn’t think of a polite way to put it, so she just said told the situation as it was, “I know it doesn’t look like it, but he eats a lot.”
Bulma actually did stop at this statement and turned to look at the woman whose arm she held. The twins passed the two of them with Vegeta following the others to the promise of food. She could tell the princess was seriously worried. “Don’t worry Chichi. Mr. Shore knew my brother was going to be here. He’s prepped to feed an army, of that I am certain.”
If Bulma hadn’t had such a serious look on her face, Chichi would have thought the other woman was making a crack at her brother in order to alleviate her fears. She couldn’t see a trace of humor in the other’s face though. “I hope so.”
Bulma patted Chichi’s hand and started in the direction of the banquet hall again. It was mind boggling to think there would possibly be two eating at the rate her brother usually did.
~o0o~
Goku had found the banquet hall. There were actually few people in the room as most everyone was not usually hungry this time of the night, or having drank enough not to care. That was all right by him: more food for his belly.
“See I knew he would be here.” Goku spun around while shoving a whole pig-in-a-blanket into his mouth at the sound of Eddie’s voice.
He blushed a bit, waving to his sister and their friends before he caught sight of the prince. He tried to swallow his mouthful in haste. He didn’t want to make this sort of impression on Vegeta. He made an even better impression when the un-chewed mound of dough and meat lodged in his throat.
Bulma looked at her brother’s look of incredulity for a moment, wondering what happened before a similar but more worried look crossed her features. “Goku?” she asked in concern. She let go of Chichi’s arm and ran to him, almost tripping in her heels, as he started gesturing at his throat. She started beating him on the back, trying to get the trapped air in his lungs to force the object out, but she wasn’t strong enough.
Everyone else hesitated, looking at the two of them as though Bulma had lost her mind before she yelled, “He’s choking, and I’m not strong enough. Someone HELP!”
Eddie was the first to react. He hurried towards the two and then edged his way in between Bulma and her brother so he could try the Heimlich maneuver. That was of no use when he could barely get his arms around the other man. He didn’t have enough leverage to get the move at the right angle.
By this time Chichi and Vegeta had edged closer. Jane held back, knowing she was of no use in this situation.
“Let me try,” Chichi said. Eddie didn’t think she would be able to do much, being as she was a woman and a princess at that. Usually not a good combination if one was looking for strength.
He did step away though and Chichi stood behind Goku. She peered around to where Vegeta was standing. “Think you can brace him? I’m going to hit him pretty hard,” she stated.
Vegeta nodded, wondering what the hell was going on, but sensing this wasn’t the time to be asking questions. He stepped up in front of the taller man. Set one leg in front of the other, leaning forward a bit as he pressed his hands against Goku’s shoulders.
Goku was thoroughly embarrassed. He was glad he had an unusually great lung span, but even he could tell his lips were probably turning blue by now.
Eddie and Bulma watched as Chichi took up a classic fighting stance. The princess took aim with her hands as she took in a large breath and expelled it with a screaming, “EEEEEEIIIII-AAAAHHHH!” as she made a striking motion with the heel of her hand. The contact was a perfect combination of force and direction.
Goku jerked his head to the side as the food came out of his throat; barely missing Vegeta’s ear as it was propelled to the floor.
Both Goku and Vegeta were surprised by force of the blow. Vegeta hadn’t known humans could be that strong and had failed to account for the balance differential. Goku hadn’t expected such a fantastic hit to come from the small woman and stumbled forward.
The two of them ended up going down in a heap for their mistake of underestimating Chichi. “Oh, Mr. Briefs! I hope I didn’t break anything!” she said, bringing her hands to her cheeks in embarrassment.
Bulma was having such a hard time not laughing in relief and amusement she couldn’t reassure Chichi that she probably hadn’t broken anything.
Vegeta laid pinned under Goku, his face becoming redder by the moment, as the taller man tried to get his traumatized lungs in working order. Chichi really had knocked the wind out of him.
Goku was finally able to get his first full breath and then realized where he was and almost fainted from embarrassment. His sister came to his rescue though. “Goku!” she said as she reached down and boxed one of his ears in her direction. When he was standing unsteadily on his feet, she continued. “Mamma always said you would choke eating like that. I never believed her until tonight though.” She slapped his shoulder. “You had me so worried!”
Eddie reached a hand down in order to help Vegeta up while Bulma was chastising her brother. “Sorry Sis,” Goku said, reaching a hand behind his head in embarrassment.
Jane grabbed a couple of cloth napkins and laid them over the breathing hazard, “I am going to get one of the staff to clean up,” she said, turning and walking away. Her face was a little green under the bright lights.
Vegeta dusted himself off. “I knew you were feisty. I didn’t know you were trained in manual combat,” he said respectfully to Chichi. Her strike may not have been considered bothersome to a sayian, but it was impressive all the same.
“Yeah,” Goku said, totally forgetting his embarrassment in favor of the topic of his first love, “Where did you learn your martial arts?”
Chichi blushed with pride. It seemed as though this crowd was more than willing to accept her for who she was. “My father thought it best that I put my energy to good use as a child. He had trainers come to our home since I was 5.”
“Are you still training?” Goku asked. She may not be much of a challenge to him, but he always enjoyed a new sparring partner because he usually ended up learning new techniques.
“I still practice, but it has been almost four years since Daddy was able to find someone I would consider a challenge, and was willing to move into the castle. My dad is an excellent King, but he still needs someone to make him take care of himself.”
Bulma groaned at the gleam in her brother’s eyes. She knew where this was leading. Just as she was about to say something to the affect of ‘No way,’ a gong sounded, signaling the second round of the night was about to start.
Vegeta watched as everyone started to leave the room full of food. He grabbed a platter from off a near by table and shoveled its contents into his mouth and down his throat before he had even reached the exit to the room.
‘Does he even tasted it?’ Chichi wondered to herself, but she was the only one to notice.
