Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Five
You avoided what promised to be the most awkward conversation yet like a pro. Given the fact that Goku had been genuinely concerned about you, you didn't bring up the fact that you were in different clothes. Nor anything related to that fact. You didn't bring it up. You didn't even mention it. You supposed that hindering you naked and possibly getting you dressed was the least of your worries.
Especially when he personally introduced you to the man named Kami. You'd been expecting an old man or something. What you got wasn't that. Well he was old but...everything else was more important. To start off with he was green. Not like "going to be sick" pale shade of green. He was legit a dark, inhuman green. He was both the most fascinating and scary thing you had seen. And considering that the world had dinosaurs that was saying something.
"Are...are you a humanoid dinosaur?" You asked in a quiet voice, instinctively staying really close to Goku.
You were pretty sure that what you'd asked had been offensive. Oops. Too late to take it back. But Kami took it with stride. To be fair humans were nothing more than humanoid great apes. Even Goku for how amazing he was. The ironic thing was that no one had an idea of how true that comparison was in his case in particular. Not yet at least.
"I am the guardian of earth."
That didn't mean he couldn't still be a humanoid dinosaur. Then again you'd never seen a dinosaur with those sort of dangly things off the top of their head. Maybe he was more like a bug then. But that, at least, you didn't ask. You got the distinct impression that asking if he was a pod person would be way more offensive than if he was a Dino-human.
"Pleased to meet you," you mumbled politely.
The guy still looked kind of creepy. He was probably an awesome guy, but he was still creepy. His head was shaped weird. He had weird antenna things. Large shapely wrinkles. Weird eyes. The whole shabang. He definitely wasn't human.
Goku put his arm around your shoulders in a friendly manner as you continued to shy away from the strange man. It was comforting and insulting all at the same time. He was right - you wanted to feel comforted but did you really seem that needy? Obviously the answer was yes or he wouldn't have done it.
"You should return her to her home Goku. Sooner is better."
You agreed with him. Sooner was better. There was something about being at the lookout which made your head spin. You felt excited and scared all at the same time.
"Okay Kami. Thanks again for helping."
"Any time, Goku. It's the least I could do after everything you've done for Earth."
Was he talking about defeating the red ribbon army or demon king Picollo? You contemplated the choices as Goku lead you out of the main building. Kami followed behind which made you kind of nervous. But you forgot all about him when you got outside.
Sky - that was the first thing that struck you. You were in the middle of the sky. There was absolutely nothing else around you. Goku smiled as he saw your awestruck expression. It amused him to see your emotional shifts. Especially all of the good ones. He didn't really like the bad ones like sadness and that unhappy look you got at bad smells. It was nice to see you smile even if your eyes were still puffy from crying.
"You ready to do something fun?" He asked, almost about ready to rock back and forth on his toes.
You looked up at him, "Like what? Go skydiving off the side without a parachute?"
"Yep," he answered back.
You took a half step back. Goku groined mischievously as he bent down ever so slightly. Like he was going to tackle you. Did he forget that you had just fainted in the shower? He didn't really plan to tackle you did he? You took another step back. There was still plenty of tiles and room for you to do so. Goku's mischievous look increased.
With the awareness of any prey animal you knew what was about to happen. And that sent you on overdrive. You made what he thought was a very cute sound as you tucked tail and ran. Goku gave chase all around the lookout. You didn't really have too much energy or fight in you. Your body still felt like it had been run over by an eighteen wheeler. And you were running on fumes.
He got you quickly enough and hoisted you over his shoulders so that you couldn't escape. You didn't really fight back. You were too tired.
Turned out you really should have put up a bit more of a fight though. Goku walked you right over the edge of the lookout. One minute there was solid ground and the next it was simply gone.
"Goku!" You screamed out in fearful surprise.
Said person grinned and almost laughed as he turned you about. He had a lot of practice moving while in freefall. You did not. So the moment you had the chance you clung to him. You knew that he had a plan. He wasn't going to kill you. But you and he were still falling so fast that it was hard to breathe. Tiny specks of color were getting larger and larger as you cling to him.
Goku tightened his hold around you as he grinned. He liked this, he liked it a lot. Especially when you buried your head in his chest and called out his name pleadingly. He liked that feeling. Knowing that you knew he would help. That you could trust and rely on him to help. Plus he liked how warm you were even though you and he were falling through miles of open air. It even felt nice to have you squished up against him. You felt a lot different than he did. Softer. Nicer maybe; he wasn't sure. He just knew that it made him feel nice when you relied on him and clung to him. It made him feel powerful; like he could take on the world and win.
Soon enough he called out for his faithful ride so that neither you or he went splat splat on the ground.

"Are you ready to go?"
It had been a week since you had fainted. And it had been a few days since you'd returned from the lookout. And what a week it had been. Not in the good way either. As absent as your parental units were they noticed when you weren't at home. Most of the time. Apparently telling them that you fainted and spent a couple of nights at the home of the guardian of Earth's house wasn't the best thing. They thought you were lying to them. A lie would have been easier to believe.
And when Goku had turned up at the door? Well let's just say your parents didn't take that very well. At all. Which explained why he was at your window, holding himself up effortlessly. Not that, that would make your parents happy. In fact you were pretty sure him being at your window would piss them off even more. Parents were funny like that.
"I don't think I can go," you tried to explain as you popped the mosquito screen off your window so he could climb in.
Which he did. And then stood in the middle of your room with a frown.
"Why not?"
"My parents are upset that I was gone for a few days. Like really, really upset. If I leave now I don't know what they'll do. I'm betting it isn't good. They might not let me come home."
It sounded drastic, like an exaggeration, but it was one of the things that had been slung at you. It was along the lines that if you were so grown up and responsible why were you still living with them? Not to mention there had been a choice few distinct barbs against Goku himself. Your mother had even gotten very, very upset and said if you left with him (in particular) she didn't want you to come crawling back.
"But we really need to get the dragonballs! Did you tell them that we can use them to wish you better?"
"I tried...not everyone believes in things like that. You've taken me flying and to the tower, showed me a lot of things and told me more...but it's hard for me to believe too."
"They're real. I promise."
"I trust you," you told him sincerely. "But my parents...all they see is a boy that getting their daughter to sneak away from home a lot. They think we're...you know..."
He didn't know. You could tell from his honest and confused expression.
"I'm confused."
"They think we're having sex," you said despite how embarrassed you were.
"Oh," he looked contemplative. "Are we?"
This innocent little man was going to kill you with the questions he asked. He didn't know what sex was? Somehow not knowing how to order a hamburger seemed really tame in comparison to that.
"No we're not," you told him honestly.
"Should we be?"
...how did you answer that without looking embarrassed?
"Goku, sex is how you make babies," you told him. "So probably not?"
"Oh, okay. I understand. They're afraid you'll get pregnant when you're still sick right? Why don't we just go and tell them that we aren't having sex then?"
You both loved and hated how his brain worked. It was nice to see someone so open, honest, and just down right good. He was like the best friend anyone could have. He accepted everything at its word. Well almost everything. Unfortunately he also had a tendency to make embarassing situations seem like no big thing and that left you reeling.
"I don't think they'd believe me if I told them that."
"But it's the truth," Goku insisted.
"It's just...trust me, they won't."
"Okay, if you say so."
He was pouting. You reached up and ruffled his hair with a rather sad excuse for a smile. He tried to put everything back into place even though as far as you could tell Nothing was out of place.
"So what do you want to do?"
"Please don't ask me like that Goku," you said with a heavy hearted tone.
"Why?"
"Because I want to do everything all at once. I want to go with you. I don't want my parents to kick me out. I want to see the world. I want to build a life somewhere I love. I want to do, see, and touch everything but I can't," you let out in a deep breath. "I'm afraid. I'm not like you. I'm not brave enough to look over an edge and jump. I'm afraid of falling, of failing and dying."
"But what if I'm with you the whole time?" He asked innocently. "You don't need to be afraid then. I'll keep you safe."
He meant it. You could feel that he meant it. And somehow it didn't seem dramatic coming from him. Your little speech felt dramatic and you were embarrassed that you were blabbering. But Goku didn't treat your declaration like you were being overly dramatic. He accepted it as you being honest and expressing your feelings. You were grateful for that.
"Just like at Kami's place when we jumped off."
"When you jumped off you mean, I was your prisoner," you said, trying not to smile.
"You liked it," he prompted you to nod however grudgingly. "And you were safe. I didn't let go of you for a second right? It'll be just like that."
"There will be days where I might just need a break."
He shrugged. "So we'll take a lot of breaks. With Bulma's radar it'll be easy finding all of them. I bet she's made it even better."
"Food, water? Shelter?"
"Aw, come on, you know that won't be a problem at all. But if you want I can ask Bulma if we can borrow one of her capsule things."
Capsule technology wasn't new or anything but it was still damned expensive. Who was Bulma again? How did she have a capsule that answered the food, water, and shelter technology.
"And Bulma will just lend us all of this?"
Goku nodded. You could feel your heart racing. You weren't sure if it was in fear or excitement. Given the situation it was probably both.
"Yeah. We go way back remember? She was the first person other than gramps I ever saw. She'll lend it to us, no problem. She's really nice. And smart. You'll like her when you meet her."
"There's still the problem that if I leave, Goku, my parents might not let me come back. I might get better but I'll be homeless."
He didn't lose his smile. "You can always stay with me when we're done. It'll be like a sleep over all the time!"
Oh he was going to kill you with how sweet he was.
"Promise?"
Goku nodded. "I promise."
