Lyri sat in the cockpit looking at the map that she had pulled up. Only a couple more hours until they landed on Bristene. She opened the link between her comm and Nix’s. “Hey, we’re almost to Bristene.”
“We’re? Thought you were by yourself,” Nix said.
“Vegeta‘s with me,” she told him.
“Do you enjoy torturing yourself?” he asked.
Lyri frowned. “Why do you say that I’m torturing myself?”
“Given the history between you two,” he said, “Do you think it wise to go down that path again? I don’t want you to get hurt again.”
“Whatever happens between Vegeta and I is between us. You are not my father. You don’t get to tell me who I can and can’t be around or who can and can’t be around me,” she snapped.
“I just don’t want to see you get hurt again,” Nix said, “Despite who you’re with, I’m glad you’re not alone.”
“Why? Do you have more information about these Saiyans?” Lyri asked.
“I received more information about them,” he said, “From what the people of Bristene have said, they’re trying to take over the planet or wipe out all its inhabitants. Last I spoke to them, they were very pissed, so don’t be surprised if they are hostile towards you when you get there.”
“Ok. Why do you think they’re doing this?” she asked.
“I think they’re taking orders from someone,” Nix told her.
“Who?” she asked. She didn’t tell him about the rumors Vegeta had heard.
“Could be loyal to Frieza or someone within Frieza’s army,” he said.
Vegeta came and sat next to her as she continued her conversation. “Frieza is dead.” He shot her a look and she waved him off.
“Whether he is or not, I don’t want you two to go in there blind. Be wary of everyone,” he told her.
“What do you want us to do? Send them home or take care of them?” she asked.
“We are trying to rebuild the image of the Saiyans. We cannot have Saiyans doing as they please. If you can convince them to return home, that’s fine, but don’t waste your time on them.”
“Ok,” Lyri said.
“One more thing,” Nix said, “I sent out another team after I contacted you. They should be there at the latest, tomorrow.”
“Ok,” she said. She was a little annoyed that he sent another team after he asked her to deal with it. She clicked off the comm, ending the conversation.
“What does Sir Fuckhead want you to do?” Vegeta asked after she ended the conversation.
“Don’t waste out time on them. If they go back home, that’s fine. They’ll be dealt with there. But if they refuse, deal with it,” she said. His glare made add, “Yes, Nix mentioned Frieza, as you heard. He thinks that these Saiyans are either still loyal to Frieza or taking orders from someone in Frieza’s army. He didn’t say anything else about him.”
“Taking orders from Frieza himself,” Vegeta muttered angrily.
“You don’t know that,” Lyri told him, “You have your suspicions, but suspicions are not facts.” She turned to him and added, “I know how important it is to get to the bottom of Frieza’s possible return. We will. You know we will. But you can’t let it consume you like it did before.”
“You’re carefree attitude about this is pissing me off. This is the same man that enslaved, tortured and killed our people. Even Nix is concerned. How can you be so indifferent about this?” Vegeta snapped.
“It’s not that I don’t care, Vegeta,” Lyri told him, “But the fact of the matter is, both of you have no proof that Frieza either survived or has been resurrected. We can’t do anything with rumors.”
Vegeta folded his arms over his chest. “I hate that you have a point.”
Lyri smirked and sat back in her chair.
They sat in silence for the remainder of the trip. Once they reached Bristene, Lyri navigated the ship through the atmosphere and landed away from everything.
“Be careful out there,” Lyri said as she turned the ship off, “Nix said that the locals are pretty upset and won’t be welcoming.” Vegeta said nothing. They stood and made their way toward the door. “Vegeta...” He glanced at her. “Stay safe...”
He rolled his eyes and pushed the button to open the door. As the ramp lowered he muttered, “You too.”
They walked off the ship and were immediately surrounded by a group of eerily gray people. The people pointed blaster guns at Lyri and Vegeta. Lyri held her hands up a bit. “Woah...” she said, “Not here to hurt you. You asked for help with some Saiyans. We’re here to help.” They growled at her and she carefully took her scouter and held it out. She could see Vegeta tense up next to her. She hoped he wouldn’t do anything stupid.
“You can call our king if you don’t believe us,” she said.
One of the people stared at her and Vegeta, but lowered his weapon. “You help?” he asked.
“Yes,” Lyri said.
“Not like others?” he asked.
“No,” she told him.
“You know leader?” he asked.
“Move,” Vegeta snapped, nudging Lyri out of the way. He started talking in a different language and, after a minute of talking, took off flying.
Lyri quickly thanked the group and flew after Vegeta. “Vegeta, what the hells?” No reply came, so she figured she’d find out soon. They flew in silence for a bit before Vegeta quickly dropped out of the sky. Lyri followed him and came face to face with a Saiyan man that Vegeta had tossed aside. “Ahh!” Lyri screamed and panicked, blasting him. He dropped and Lyri jumped over his body as she hurried over to Vegeta.
“We don’t answer to you. You let them completely throw away everything we knew,” a Saiyan was saying.
Vegeta growled. “I don’t give two shits who you answer to,” he snarled, “You have two options, leave this planet, go back to Planet Vegeta and accept the new ways or don’t and you’ll be executed here.”
“Threatening death when you don’t get your way?” a voice from the crowd said. The group Saiyans parted and Kiki walked up to Vegeta. “That doesn’t seem to go well with your new ways, now does it?”
No sooner did the words leave Kiki’s mouth did Lyri try to launch herself at the smaller woman. Vegeta grabbed her, holding her arms behind her. “Let me go! That bitch had a hand in my death! I’m going to send her to Hell even if I have to drag her there myself!” She squirmed in Vegeta’s grip as he dragged her away. He tossed her on the ground.
“Don’t move!” he snapped at her. He turned his back and started walking away when Lyri stood and started following him. He yelled over his shoulder, “What the hell did I just say?”
Lyri growled, but stayed put. She glared at Kiki and began pacing back and forth, like a cooped up cat eyeing its prey.
“Your pet looks pretty pissed,” Kiki told Vegeta as he made his way back.
“Shut the hells up or I’ll let her tear you apart,” Vegeta snapped.
“Oh. I’m so scared. What are you gonna do if I don’t shut up? Go cry like a bitch to Nix?” Kiki asked.
In the blink of an eye, Vegeta had his hands wrapped around her throat. She gripped his hands but couldn’t pull him off. “What was your end goal? Hmm? Gather enough outcasts and try to overthrow Nix? Was that your genius plan?” The other Saiyans growled and moved towards them. “Back off!” Vegeta snarled. They stopped but stood their ground. “Did you think it would work?” He tightened his hands around her neck. “You have always been an idiot who never thought things through.” He dropped her and inhaled deeply. He glared at the Saiyans surrounding them. “Go home. Forget your banishments for now. I’ll talk to Nix and see what can be done about them...” He grabbed Kiki by arms and pulled her up. “You’re coming with me....”
