Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter fifty-eight
“But why can’t we go see if she’s okay?” Goten asked his brother for the third time in the last hour.
Goten was sporting multiple bruises, but Gohan felt as though his younger brother had gotten off lightly all things considered. The last time he’d faced Broly, right before Cell, the legendary super saiyan had wiped the floor with them before they were able to stop him. He still couldn’t believe that Trunks, Videl, and Goten hadn’t been hurt a lot. At least they hadn’t been hurt by comparison. Especially Videl - Gohan was almost shocked to see the fact that nothing was broken. She’d suffered worse in the tournament than in Broly’s hands. He was almost grateful to Broly for taking it easy on all of them. Which was not a sentiment that Gohan ever would have thought he felt towards the brute.
“She’s fine,” Gohan tried to assure him as Dende walked over.
Gohan looked to Trunks and Videl. Thanks to Dende’s healing powers both of them were right as rain. Videl even started to look around, mystified that they were so high up. Gohan supposed the lookout was impressive. It had just been many years since he’d experienced a similar sensation. He’d forgotten what it had been like.
“But she’s not! She’s with the big meanie!” Goten protested as Dende got to work healing him. “You’re supposed to protect her!”
“Between all of us squirt, I think she’s the one who needs to be protected from him the least,” Gohan said with a faint, lopsided smile even though his stomach churned uneasily. “She figured out how to get him to calm down.”
“No!” Goten insisted stubbornly. “He’s going to hurt her! We need to get her back!”
Gohan had to hold his brother still before he took off and did something rash. He thanked Dende as the guardian of Earth finished healing up his brother. As Gohan looked back down at his six year old brother, he realized that Goten was much more upset then he would have imagined. As he was already on his knees to hold the younger half saiyan down, all Gohan had to do was speak out.
“Hey, why are you so upset Goten?”
Goten trembled though he tried not to. He wanted to be brave and strong like his big brother and his father. But it was hard. He didn’t feel brave. He felt scared.
“He’s going to hurt her,” Goten reiterated. “He’s so strong Gohan. Trunks and I tried everything. But we couldn’t hurt him. I think he might be stronger than you.”
“Yeah, Broly is really strong. He probably is stronger than me,” Gohan admitted quietly. “But sometimes it’s not all about strength Goten. You have to be able to fight smart too. You have to be able to out think and out maneuver your opponent. And that’s where your big brother has the advantage.”
With watery eyes, Goten rubbed his face with his sleeve. “But what if he hurts her? What if he decides to make her marry him instead? Like the bad guys from tv?”
Gohan tried not to imagine everything that Goten was implying without knowing it. The thought alone was enough to make the uneasy feeling in his stomach worse.
“Dad promised that when he came back we’d be a family. That I’d have a sister to play with soon,” the youngest child spoke in a shaky voice. “But if Broly decides to keep her and marry her, then she can’t marry you! She won’t be able to be my new big sister. It won’t matter if we find the dragonballs or not then!”
There was a lot to take in from what Goten just said. Least of all the fact that he’d been looking for the dragonballs. That actually explained why the tree of them had been exploring the world. Gohan looked over to Trunks and Videl to see them both listening intensively. It wasn’t until he saw the look of disbelief on Videl’s face that he realized what she had overheard. Goten kept insisting that he, Gohan, was going to marry you. He turned red as his mind worked through what Goten had been saying about their dad.
“Wait, when did you talk to dad about this?” Gohan asked as he looked at his emotional little brother.
“Last night. When I was sleeping. He said someone was helping him talk to me...I don’t think he wanted to talk to you big Brother. He didn’t look happy when I said we should tell you.”
Gohan swallowed thickly. Leave it to his dad to figure out a way to talk to Goten while he was sleeping. But if Goten has talked to him so recently, and not at some point during the martial arts tournament, that meant that their dad remembered you. And based on his behavior a few days ago, Gohan was willing to bet he didn’t mean for you to be Goten’s sister. That would mean you’d have to marry him (Gohan). And considering how enraged their dad had been over the prospect of being kept away from you or replaced...well, Gohan was very sure that wasn’t what he meant. Which meant that their dad had been planning to make Goten a new sister...with you...when he was brought back to life. Gohan wasn’t sure he could be more embarrassed as he thought of the implications of that. And there was a good part of him that started to get angry as well.
Goku was their dad and all...but how dare he…
“Goten, I need you to tell me everything that our dad said. Okay? It’s important.”

“Feel better?” You asked when you heard the door open.
You had a feeling that you’d need to keep your eyes closed when Broly moved out of your bathroom. Without opening your eyes and looking at him you couldn’t tell if your assumptions were right or not. But based on the fact that you didn’t hear a towel drop as he found the pants you laid out for him, you assumed that he hadn’t been wearing one.
You were just thankful that you’d been able to find a pair of sweatpants that would stretch to accommodate him. Of course you had to cut off the end so that it fit over his calves seeing as they ended much higher on the leg on him than on you. And as you opened your eyes you saw that they had to sit much lower on him than they would have on you. You saw a vast majority of his iliac crest. But it was better than him walking around naked until his own pants were done.
“Your bathing chamber is small.”
“Well, I am a lot smaller than you,” you shrugged and tried to relax.
It was hard when there was a seven and a half foot man walking around. Especially considering that said man had been beating people up less than an hour ago. As he moved to sit down on your bed you noticed that his tail lazily rested on your bed as well. The idea of keeping the appendage so exposed and easily sat on baffles you.
“Father told me our race was destroyed. Was that another lie?”
“As far as I know, they were. By a guy named Frieza. He’s dead now but so is the planet we came from,” you sat as you stayed near your kitchen, giving him plenty of space. “But for all I know there might be others. If Vegeta is to be believed there were only supposed to be two full Saiyans left...well one I guess. Now there’s you and me too. There could be others out there.”
“Where are your parents?” Broly asked, his long dark hair dropping onto your cover.
“I guess my saiyan parents are dead. I don’t really know. My adopted parents are on another world. They were the ones who raised me after they rescued me.”
“You needed to be rescued?”
You weren’t sure if that was concern or derision in his voice. You tried to convince yourself it was concern. He didn’t seem as stuck up as Vegeta at least. He seemed like the one who would mock you for the fact that you had been saved by an “inferior” race.
“Yes. A warlord found me when I was very, very young. I guess when I was a baby. He kept me alive but unconscious. And he had people cut into me and harvested all my organs to keep himself alive and strong. I still have the scars from the main areas they cut into my body,” you had always hated your scars. You hated them more now that you knew what they’d come from. “I guess a little baby girl was too much of a threat to let live but too good of a gold mine to kill right away. Cause he kept harvesting blood and spinal fluid until my adopted parents got me out of there. After that...well Earth became my home.”
“How old are you?” Broly asked after a moment of silence.
“That’s...complicated. I was born on the Planet Vegeta before it was blown up. But...I was put into a medical coma before I turned eighteen. Mom and dad kept me kind of frozen at that age. So physically I’m around eighteen I guess.”
“You talk a lot.”
That made you bite your lip. Instead of potentially angering him with more words, you walked to your fridge and pulled out all your leftovers. As far as you knew Saiyans were better when they were full of food. You weren’t sure you could fill him up with what you had left but it was worth a shot to keep him placated. Some food was better than no food at least.
