Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter fifty-nine
“What is that?” Broly asked.
You held up the capsule so he could see it better. The area around you was flat enough and isolated enough that you were confident no one was going to storm out and demand you stop squatting.
“This is called a capsule. It compresses large objects to fit in a small space with very little weight. It makes things really easy to carry around. This capsule has a house inside of it. I know you had a hard time sleeping last night,” you admitted, though he looked passive still. You hadn’t been in the room with him but you had felt his energy fluctuating all night. “I thought you might sleep better without a lot of people around.”
Broly made a humming like sound. You took that as a form of acceptance as he stared at your hand.
“When I click this and toss it, there is going to be a sound. And there will be gas released. A house will kind of just appear. I promise it’s not an attack.”
His brows furrowed in thought. Though what those thoughts were you didn’t know. He wasn’t exactly the most vocal of men. Or the most expressive outside of that sort of concentrated look that shifted into anger. So instead of prying you did what you said you were going to do. You clicked the capsule and tossed it to the area that you picked. Within moments the half circle of a house appeared. And it made your breath hitch.
For all the fuss you’d put up and all the pain seeing him again brought, you missed Goku so very much. Seeing the house that you had shared with him for the majority of a couple months reminded you of just how much you missed him.
Broly continued to look down at you as he registered your distress. His eyes went to look behind you, then slowly around. You felt his energy spiking as a look of aggression started to overtake the passive expression he had on a moment ago.
“Broly,” you called out his name softly. “There’s no threat. Just...memories. Have you ever gotten upset from a memory?”
He looked back at you and nodded. The start of the aggressive look on his face not really leaving. You took a deep breath as you moved towards the capsule house. Even in his base form, Broly still had to duck to get in through the door. It was almost comical actually to see such a large man stoop over. He made everything look small.
“I know...it’s small for you. Everything probably will be for a while. But it’s what I have right now.”
“You could rule this world and have what you want,” Broly spoke as he stood in the middle of the place.
That was possibly the longest sentence you’d heard him say yet. It made you smile. With a bit of a bounce in your step you moved to get in front of him. Your tail waved behind you as you smiled at him.
“I don’t want to rule. That’s too much work. Besides for the most part I like this world. I mean there are some things I’d change but overall it’s not a bad place to be if you give it a shot.”
“What would you change?”
You blinked a few times as you looked up at him. You realized that this was actually turning into a conversation and that made you happy. At least it was something peaceful that he was engaging in.
“Well...I guess it could be better if there was no poverty.”
“What’s poverty?”
“Uhh,” you tried to think of a way to explain it to him. “Poverty is when someone has very little compared to people that have a lot. Like houses, clothes, food. It’s usually measured by amounts of money someone has each year to pay for things. Those who don’t have much tend to be in poverty.”
“Like slaves,” Broly said in a reasonable voice.
“...a bit extreme but, yeah I guess.”
“Slaves are needed to build a new empire.”
You shook your head in negation. “No, slaves are bad.”
“Then they will be punished.”
“No no, I mean...having slaves is a bad idea.”
“Then how will you rebuild our empire?”
You took a minute to answer him. And when you did it was in a slow, purposeful tone.
“I wasn’t going to try to do that,” you told him.
Though it was a sort of intriguing idea. If you did try to rebuild a place for saiyans, that brought about many different challenges. Space for everyone to live for one, and how to feed them all for another. As you contemplated the thoughts you took a seat on the couch.
Assuming that you could find enough space on Earth to house and feed a bunch of Saiyans (which was a big if) there was no way you could ever make enough money to pay for it. You weren’t even sure someone as rich as Bulma would have enough money to by enough fertile land to feed a small clan of saiyans. Not to mention what would everyone do for a living? Private mercenaries came to mind but...well that seemed like cheating. Not to mention very violent. Plus where would you even start your search for any survivors?
“Then why are you here?”
“On Earth?” You asked and he nodded. “I was raised here. This planet is my home. Plus, for a long time I thought I was human. I even have human friends.”
“Friends are pointless.”
“Ouch,” you told him with a semi-playful expression. “I was hoping we could be friends.”
“Humans are weak.”
“Physical yes,” you agreed. “Most of them are. But they are inventive. They make great things like chocolate, movies, lots of games to play, stories to read. There are so many things on this planet that are wonderful. And it all comes from life here on Earth.”
“Show me,” he challenged.
“I will try. But I can’t do everything at once okay? It will take time,” you told him and you watched as he nodded. “You just have to promise to try and not destroy things. Okay?”
“Is that an order?” He asked, his tone ringing all the danger bells in your head.
“Broly... I can’t actually make you listen to me. But I would like to be able to trust you. Can I do that?”
He didn’t say anything. Nor did his expression change. But you figured that him not disagreeing was better than nothing.
You were just hoping that you could pull this off. You weren’t sure how you were going to do it but you had to try. It was better than the alternative. As you gave him a wavering smile, you stood up and started to the door. Broly followed behind you. Which made you stop.
“I’m going to go back to the city,” you told him. “Did you want to come with me or did you want to stay here?”
“You will show me the city,” Broly announced.
You nodded. And then you showed him how to shrink the house back down into the capsule. You handed it to him before you realized that he didn’t have any pockets. He didn’t even have on a shirt…
Well that was going to have to change. You eyed him as you tried to figure out how to even go about finding a shirt to fit him. Maybe you could ask some of the body builders at Hercule’s gym.
“Uh...we will have to get you a shirt,” you said with a bit of a laugh as you wiggled your hand as a sign that you’d hold the capsule.
As Broly handed you the collapsed house, he looked confused. “Why?”
“People in the city aren’t supposed to walk around without a shirt. Unless they’re going swimming...or playing sports...and that’s only for guys. But uh, people get uncomfortable when even guys don’t have a shirt on after a while.”
Broly said nothing to that. You lifted up to the sky a little to show him that you were ready to take off. You figured that Instant Transmission might have still been too jarring for him. The less to aggravate him the better.
Half way through the flight you felt your phone vibrate in your pocket. You waited until you and Broly touch down on your apartment’s roof top before pulling out your phone to see what was going on.
Wonderboy: We have to talk. It’s about my dad.
You: how important?
Wonderboy: Very. Can I come over?
You: I’m with Broly.
He didn’t respond for a while. You bet he was trying to think of what to do. As you and Broly descended into your small studio apartment, you texted Gohan back with your idea.
You: Give me like 5 minutes. Then IT to the roof.
He gave you an “Okay” back. You put your phone into your pocket before unlocking the door. Broly followed behind you. Which was awkward considering everything. He took up pretty much all your space in the entryway.
“Hey Broly, I need to talk with Gohan okay? He will be on the roof soon. And I will just be a few minutes. Then I will show you a few places I go to. We’ll even get chocolate. Trust me it’s delicious. It’s worth it.”
Broly nodded as he looked around your apartment once more. You havd a few things scattered about. Nothing that you were too embarrassed about but you weren’t exactly a neat freak. Sometimes shirts kind of ended up in a pile in the corner. Normal things like that.
You smiled up at him before ducking out of the apartment. Lord you hoped that he didn’t break anything.
