Poisoning

I went to the pathologist the other day to get some blood taken and saw this written on their notice board. ‘Don’t take life too seriously you’ll never get ali alive’. Guess who tried to hightail it out of there. Damn nurses.

Cured

As Kai watched Rei that night he had noticed a change for the better in the boy. Some of Rei’s colour had returned and his twitches had calmed down but not stopped.
Dr. Romanova had come in several times through the night.
To her delight Rei’s temperature had come down to a point of slight fever and his heartbeat was slowly returning too normal.
Unfortunately Rei still vomited but that was to rid his body of the poison.
Kai looked up as Dr. Romanova entered with two cups in her hands and a package under her left arm. Walking over she handed one of the mugs to Kai, who accepted the steaming mug of coffee gratefully. Dr. Romanova then handed the package to him.
“Mr. Dickensen dropped this off for you. It’s a change of clothes,” Dr. Romanova said then pointing to a green door in Rei’s hospital room she continued, “That’s the shower feel free to use it.”
Pulling up a chair Dr. Romanova sat down and started to blow on her tea to cool it.
“You promise to watch over him while I’m gone?” Kai asked looking up at Dr. Romanova.
“I’ll just grab some work and then I want move from this chair unless something comes up,” Dr. Romanova said.
Kai nodded and drained his coffee cup.
He stood up and headed for the shower.
Before he entered he heard the scraping of a chair and looked up to glare at Dr. Romanova who was standing.
“I’m not going anywhere. I’m just checking on his pupils,” Dr. Romanova said putting her cup of tea on the table by the bed and pulling out her flashlight.
Kai walked into the bathroom and locked the door.
Turning he spotted a towel, a bar of soap, a hairbrush and some shampoo.
Turning on the hot water he undressed and got in the shower.
Washing his body and shampooing his hair quickly he got out and dried off.
Redressing he looked he mhe mirror and brushed his hair sighing when he realised that he couldn’t reapply the blue triangles to his face.
Collecting his dirty clothes he exited the bathroom.
Dr. Romanova was sitting back in her chair drinking her tea and examining Rei’s chart. Without turning she acknowledged his presence.
“That was quick,” she stated.
“I’m clean that’s all that matters,” Kai said walking over to Rei’s side.
He dumped his clothes on the cabinet where Rei’s dirty clothes were.
Kai ld dod down and kissed Rei’s nose. Then looking up he saw the time.
“I’m going to be late,” Kai grumbled.
“Taxi is waiting for you downstairs all paid for and ready to go,” Dr. Romanova said lifting a page and reading the one underneath.
“How?” Kai asked confused.
Without looking up Dr. Romanova fished her mobile phone from her pocket and held it up for Kai to see.
Kai smirked and said, “You trying to get rid of me?”
“Yes you see I’m secretly in love with Rei and have decided to break up with my fiancé so I can kidnap and runaway with him,” Dr. Romanova said sarcastically.
“I knew it,” Kai said, walking over he leaned down slightly and kissed her on the cheek saying, “Thank-you for everything you’ve done.”
Dr. Romanova looked at him and smiled as she said, “My pleasure. Now go before you are late.”
Kai ran from the room and made it to the front of the hospital where, like Dr. Romanova had said, was an already paid taxi waiting for him.
Climbing in the taxi sped of towards the beyblade tournament.

As Kai reached the arena he jumped out nodding his thanks to the driver he ran into the building. Hearing the announcer he figured out that the rest of his team was already at the bench.
Running down the corridors he spotted Mr. Dickensen waiting for him so he slowed.
“I’m glad you made it Kai. I was hoping that there would be no reason to forfeit,” Mr. Dickensen said as he walked Kai out to the bench.
As soon as Kenny, Max and Tyson saw Kai they ran over asking a million questions about Rei.
“Quiet,” Kai yelled at them, “Rei is fine he’s been given an antidote and will be back to normal soon.”
“Still doesn’t stop you from worrying,” Tyson said smirking.
“What do you mean?” Kai asked.
“You’re fidgeting,” Max said simply pointing out the fact that Kai was wringing his hands together and shifting on his feet.
“I’m the captain it’s my job to worry,” Kai grumbled under his breath.
“Well then you can go first against Johnny and then head back to Rei,” Tyson said.
“You sure?” Kai asked looking at them.
The three nodded and headed back to the bench.
Kai looked across to see The Majestics on the bench across from them.
“Okay let’s get the semi-finals started. As you know it’s the Bladebreakers against the Majestics. What you may not know is that Rei from the Bladebreakers was taken to the hospital yesterday with a deadly illness. He has thankfully been given an antidote and will hopefully be back with us soon,” the announcer said.
The crowd cheered at the good news.
Kai instantly thought back to Rei laying in the hospital bed.

‘Dr. Romanova better be with him.’

Kai walked up to the dish and reached into his pocket where he had put Dranzer. Taking the blue blade out he stared at it.
He looked up to see Johnny walking towards the dish.
“Okay in the first match of the day we have Kai from the Bladebreakers up against Johnny from the Majestics,” the announcer said.
Johnny stopped at the side of the dish and looked at Kai. He could see that the blader’s mind was off somewhere else. Johnny had no doubt where.
“How is Rei doing Kai?” Johnny asked getting the attention of the bluenette.
“He’s doing good. His vitals are slowly returning to normal thanks to Dr. Romanova,” Kai said.
“Dr. Hope Romanova?” Johnny asked.
Kai looked up and nodded, “You know her?”
“Heard of her. Youngest specialist pediatrician ever,” Johnny said.
Kai pulled out his launcher and readied his blade.
Johnny followed and they set up to launch.
“Ready bladers. 3.2.1,” the judge said.
“Let it Rip,” Johnny and Kai called launching their blades.
Kai watched as Dranzer immediately went to attack Salamalyon.
Suddenly a pink flash caught his eye and he looked to see what it was. He couldn’t see what had caused it but it made him start thinking of Rei again. The lack of attention from Kai was enough for Johnny to gain the upper hand.
Kai jolted back into the present when Dranzer’s loud screech filled the arena.
Soon Kai’s blade lay at his feet motionless.
“The winner is Johnny,” the announcer called.
Kai picked up his blade and put it in his pocket.
“Hey Kai when you get yourself together and Rei is better. I want a rematch,” Johnny called as he walked away.
“You got it,” Kai said walking back to his own team.
Looking at them he saw that they were all wearing smiles of reassuranc“Don“Don’t worry about the loss,” Max said.
“Yeah Max and I’ll whip some Majestic butt and we’ll be in the finals,” Tyson said.
“I think I should stay,” Kai said starting to pace back and forth, “They’ve obviously been training and you might need my help.”
Kenny, Max and Tyson looked at each other and sighed. Kai was pacing exactly the same way he had when they had taken Rei to the hospital the first time.
All three nodded and stood up.
Kai stopped his pacing and looked at them oddly.
They threesome pointed to the exit and said, “Go.”
“But…” Kai started.
Max got behind Kai and started pushing him in the direction of the exit.
“We’ll be fine. Rei is the one that needs you right now,” Max said.
“Yeah we’re big enough to take care of ourselves now go,” Tyson said as Max gave Kai a small push.
“Someone would think you were trying to get rid of me,” Kai said.
“Go,” Max and Tyson cried.
Kai nodded and ran out of the stadium.
“Thank god I don’t know how long I would have been able to take him pacing,” Max said sighing.
Tyson grinned, “Let’s win the semi-finals.”

Kai was able to get a taxi back to the hospital finally making it back to the ward Rei was in.
Kai entered the ward and saw Dr. Romanova standing talking to another person in a suit.
Kai nearly hit the roof he std ovd over to Dr. Romanova and was about to say something but Dr. Romanova saw him and interrupted.
“Don’t start he’s fine on his own for a couple of seconds,” Dr. Romanova said putting her hand on her hips.
Kai growled at her and stomped off down the corridor missing the giant grin that spread across her face.
Kai entered Rei’s room thinking of how many ways he could kill Dr. Romanova.
Looking up he halted mid stride and his eyes went wide.
There sitting up in bed, free of any sort of tube, with a big grin on his face was Rei.
“Hey Kai,” Rei said.
Kai immediately ran over wrapping his arms around Rei. Then he pulled the boy off the bed and swung him around. Rei wrapped his arms around Kai’s neck tightly.
“You’re okay,” Kai said happily.
Rei laughed as Kai allowed his feet to finally touch the ground.
“Yeah I’m okay,” Rei said smiling.
Kai pulled Rei into a hug burying his face in the boy’s neck.
“I’ve been so worried about you,” Kai said softly then he pulled back and looked into Rei’s golden eyes.
Leaning forward slightly Kai whispered, “I love you,” before placing his lips on Rei’s.
Rei stood shocked for a second before responding.
The two boys shared a passionate kiss before pulling apart.
“Love you too Kai,” Rei whispered looking into Kai’s crimson orbs, a few tears coming to his golden ones.
“Aww isn’t that cute,” Dr. Romanova said her voice coming from the doorway.
The two boys looked over to see her leaning against the doorframe, the persai hai had seen her talking to stood beside her an arm wrapped around her waist.
Rei grinned at the doctor and her acquaintance.
“Back into bed Rei,” Dr. Romanova said stepping forward, “Kai we need to speak to you alone for a bit.”
The person’s arm fell to his side and he smiled while Dr. Romanova ushered her patient back to bed.
Kai came to stand beside him.
When Dr. Romanova had Rei back into bed she promised she wouldn’t keep Kway way from him long and left.
Kai and Dr. Romanova’s acquaintance followed her down to Dr. Candide’s office, which she had taken over.
The two entered and Dr. Romanova shut the door.
“Kai this is my fiancé Detective Alexi Mickhelson. He was the one that confirmed that Rei had come intacntact with powdered Organic Phosphate. He’s taking the rose as evidence and will arrest Mariah and the guy that supplied her with the poison,” Dr. Romanova said.
Kai nodded and said, “I was going to call the police myself. If Mariah’s stayed on the loose I don’t want to think what she might have tried next.”
“Well you won’t have to worry we have an APB out on Mariah and from the description we got from your friend Mr. Dickensen she shouldn’t be too hard to find,” Alexi said.
“Pink freak,” Kai muttered.
“Well you can go back to Rei now. I have to finish up a few things and I’ll be by to give you an update on Rei and when he can go home,” Dr. Romanova said smiling.
Kai grinned and nodded ing.ing.
“That guy is just as bloody protective as you are,” Dr. Romanova said walking up and lightly punching Alexi in the arm.
Alexi wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her to him.
“Nothing wrong with that,” Alexi replied kissing her.

Kai walked back to Rei’s room.
When Kai found the door shut he thought it odd.
Opening it and walking in Kai couldn’t believe his eyes.
Rei lay tied and gagged on the hospital bed a bottle of methylated spirits lay on the bed beside him.
Mariah was holding up and inspecting a syringe with a clear liquid in it ready to inject it into Rei’s arm.
Kai put two and two together and came up with something he didn’t like.
Running over hebbedbbed Mariah’s arm, which was just about to jab the needle into Rei’s arm.
“Let me go. He must die. You can’t have him,” Mariah screamed as she and Kai fought.
Mariah was trying to get Kai with the syringe now.
“I won’t let you hurt him,” Kai yelled.
Dr. Romanova and Alexi heard the commotion and came running.
They entered Rei’s room to find Kai and Mariah fing.ing.
Alexi ran to help Kai while Dr. Romanova went to see if Rei was alright.
Ungagging him Rei yelled, “Stop Mariah don’t hurt Kai please. I love him.”
Mariah stopped in shock.
This allowed Kai to take the syringe off Mariah and Alexi to put some cuffs on her.
Untying his bindings Rei got up and ran to Kai who was emptying the syringe in the sink and throwing the needle away.
Rei launched himself at the bluenette who gladly held him close.
Dr. Romanova and Alexi left Kai and Rei alone taking Mariah down to where two police officers had arrived.
They had tracked Mariah to the hospital but hadn’t been quick enough to stop her.
Kenny, Max, Tyson and Mr. Dicen aen arrived to see Mariah being lead away by the two police officers.
“What happened?” Max asked Dr. Romanova who was standing near by.
“Mariah tried to inject Rei with methyl spi spirits,” Dr. Romanova explained.
“Is he okay?” Max asked worried.
“Yes he’s with Kai at the moment. You can go see him if you want.”
The four of them walked down to Rei’s room and looked in.
Kai was sitting on the hospital bed Rei wrapped warmly in his arms.
The neko-jin was sound asleep purring contentedly.
“I’m glad we didn’t lose Rei,” Max whispered trying not to disturb the two in the room.
“Yes I agree and it looks like Kai may be easier to deal with from now on,” Kenny said.
