Part 6

Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the Gundam boys, I just like to imagine them in my own little world (which is totally of my making). No profits are made from this story, just gratuitous pleasure.

Summary: They were thrust together at the age of 14, members of an assassins guild, then rudely ripped apart at the age of 21. Now, three years later, Duo walks back into Heero's life. Feedback is appreciated. I enjoy hearing from all of my readers. That you take the time to read is great, that you take the time to write is awesome. You are what makes writing worth while. I hope that you enjoy reading it.

My sincere thanks to the following:

Dragon: Thank you for your continued support. I hope this next chapter keeps you wanting more.

Diane Rainwater: The end of this particular tale is a long way off. The ride has just barely begun. There are a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns before this rollercoaster ride reaches it’s final destination. Thanks for your continued support. I really appreciate your comments. And as for ‘Addicted’, yes, you most likely read it before, but it was separated from it’s follow up story, ‘Picking Up the Pieces’. I just thought the two needed to be combined so they could be read together, to better compliment each other.

Pull the Trigger and the Nightmare Stops…

“dear my friends in the time we've spent forever after beyond this when will our nightmare ever end?
pull the trigger and the nightmare stops...”

Part. 6

Duo found that he liked having his Heero in charge of life once more. Now he could relax and let Heero do all of the things that he so liked to do, such as washing Duo's long mane of flowing chestnut locks. Duo's arms got tired when he had to shampoo and condition his hair, then blow dry it and plait it. But now he shamelessly took advantage of Heero, fluttering his indigo eyes and giving Heero tiny kisses on his jaw and behind his ear. And the little nibbles on the ear. He had forgotten just how silly that could make Heero get. He was likely to promise him anything when Duo had his lips and teeth attached onto an earlobe.

So now Heero had finished up the chore of plating Duo's hair and Duo was ready for, what time was it? Lunch? Where had breakfast gone to? Well, lunch was good. He went looking for his missing Heero.

“Heero, I’m hungry,” Duo pouted, when he finally found his lover, working away at his laptop.

“So cook something, babe,” Heero answered. “I’ve got to finish this report. I’d like to get it to Simon today.”

“But Heero, you said you’d teach me to drive after lunch,” said Duo, rubbing up against Heero's back as he tried to type. “And I’m hungry, and we don’t have any food, 'cos you haven’t taken me shopping for food yet.”

“Duo, can you just give me a half hour? Please babe, then I’ll take you out for lunch,” said Heero, trying to ignore him and having about as much luck as ignoring a persistent cat.

“Okay, ‘Ro,” he pouted, sticking out his lower lip and he wandered off, only to return about five minutes later.

“Are you almost done yet, 'Ro?” he asked, eyes wide and innocent.

Heero almost screamed. Duo being loveable and innocent was almost worse then Duo being bitchy. At least then he was quiet. Heero whimpered softly and Duo grinned wickedly, heading around for another pass. He could feel Heero weakening, and so came at him from the other side this time.

“Maybe you’d just rather skip lunch,” he whispered softly into Heero's ear, accompanying it with a flick of his tongue. “Or I could be your lunch.”

That got a moan out of Heero, but he typed on doggedly. So Duo just draped himself over Heero's shoulders, arms going around his neck and laying his head next to Heero's, breathing softly in his ear, watching him type. Still nothing. The man had to be close to breaking soon, Duo thought.

“Heero, I want to suck your cock,” Duo whispered in his ear.

That did it. Heero's hands left the keyboard, grabbed Duo's wrists and pulled him around into Heero's lap. Heero's icy blue eyes glared into Duo's innocent indigo eyes. And they sat, eyes locked, neither willing to be the first to break.

“Duo,” Heero finally said, through clenched teeth.

“Yes, 'Ro?” Duo answered innocently.

“So help me, I am going to tie you up, put a gag in your mouth and leave you on the couch until I get my report done,” Heero told him, as calmly as he could manage under the circumstances. “When I am finished, we will go. Not before. And you annoying me is not helping me to get it done any faster.”

“But, 'Ro,” Duo pouted, “I’m hungry and I’m bored.”

“I know Duo, but I have to work to feed us. Just a half an hour. That’s all I ask, okay?” Heero punctuated his reprimand and request with a kiss.

He’d forgotten in three years time just how quickly Duo could drive him crazy. He sighed deeply and wrapped his arms around his most annoying lover. Then he gently ejected him from his lap and returned to his report.

Having finally managed to completely derail Heero's train of thought for a brief time, Duo considered it a victory and so took a coke from the ‘fridge and headed for the roof top garden to laze in the sun until Heero was ready to leave.

With peace at last, Heero finished the report on the mission he had just completed and went looking for his recalcitrant mate, only to find him sleeping, curled up in the sun like a cat.

Heero shook him gently and Duo rolled over, stretched and yawned cutely, blinking up at his lover.

“Well, I’m done. We can go now,” said Heero.

“You finally finished, huh? Took you long enough,” said Duo slyly.

Heero ignored him, heading back down the stairs to get coat and keys.

“Heero?” called Duo, following behind him.

“What?” Heero replied.

“Can I come in with you? When you do your report? You are going to give it to Simon, aren’t you?” Duo asked.

“Of course you can come in with me. I wasn’t going to leave you in the car. And yes, I’m going to give it to Simon,” he replied. “Why?”

“Well, I’d like to meet him. To say thanks, you know, for the car and the apartment and everything,” Duo told him.

“I’m sure Simon would like that. He told me to bring you in when you were feeling a little more, ah, stabilized. He and Mr Winner would like to meet the ever so charming Mrs Heero Yuy,” Heero said, grinning at Duo.

“Stabilized?” Duo commented.

“Well, you were blowing hot and cold for a while and no indications as to when the weather was suddenly going to change,” Heero informed him.

“Yeah, well, I was feeling sort of… emotional,” said Duo.

“We all noticed. Hence, the apartment,” Heero told him.

“It’s not all my fault. You weren’t doing a whole lot to help, you know,” Duo pouted.

“I thought we already worked this all out?” Heero asked as they exited the lift into the carpark.

“I thought I might get some ice cream out of it,” Duo shrugged, getting into the car as Heero held the door for him,.

Heero just laughed as he got into the driver’s seat of Duo's hot little red sports car and headed for W.E.I. headquarters.

They pulled into the underground car park of a modest building, Heero showing his ID to the parking attendant as they drove in and left the car with another attendant. He took Duo's hand and headed for the lift, punching for the first floor. They exited and joined the general throng, but Heero guided Duo to an imposing desk that guarded an impressive set of lift doors. Duo could see these weren’t for the general public to use, not by any means.

“Hello, Lady Une,” Heero greeted the woman at the desk. “I’m going to go up to my office, but I’d like to see if Simon is available this morning. I have a report for him, and someone very special that I think he and Mr Winner would like to meet.”

“One moment, Mr Yuy,” she replied. “Let me ring him.” She spoke softly, then looked up at Heero. “If you could give him a half hour, he’s just clearing up some business, then they will be at your disposal.”

“Thank you, Lady Une,” Heero said, turning away. “Come on, babe, I’ll show you my office. It’s on the 9th floor.”

Duo followed along happily, impressed by the way Heero was treated. He really must be something here, to get an appointment with the boss just like that. They rode the lift on the other side of the lobby that the employees used, needing a special key card to gain access to it. It seemed that not just anyone could wander around W.E.I. Headquarters.

Heero took advantage of the lack of other occupants of the lift to spend time kissing Duo. It made the ride a little more fun then it usually was and his hand slid down to caress the nice ass encased in a pair of very tight jeans. Heero really liked those jeans right where they were, but he thought he’d like them a whole lot better if they were on the floor next to the bed. Duo tended to agree with that sentiment.

Unfortunately, the 9th floor arrived all too soon and they had to break up their impromptu necking session.

Heero led Duo down to his office and, as he thought, John Macalister, his erstwhile partner, was in there, sitting at his desk, trying to appear busy.

“So, Yuy, finally decided to show up to work again, did you?” Mac said, looking up, then seemed to notice Duo, his eyes going to the hickies on Duo's neck. “But I guess if that’s what’s been keeping you occupied, I don’t blame you. Nice piece of ass you’ve got there.”

“Hn,” Heero grunted coldly, then ignored the man, rummaging through his desk for a moment. Duo edged closer to him, not liking the way the other man’s eyes kept running over his body. It definitely made him feel uncomfortable, as if Mac was undressing him with his eyes.

“Come on, babe, I’m done. Let’s get out of here,” said Heero, draping an arm over Duo's shoulders. Duo crowded in closer. “There’s a lot nicer things for you to see around here then the slime I have to work with.”

“Ah, leaving already? And I thought he was just starting to like me,” Mac’s oily, mocking voice followed them as they left the office.

“Oh, and by the way, Mac,” Heero paused at the door, “if you ever speak about my wife like that again, I will kill you.”

Heero shut the door firmly behind the two of them and led Duo off towards the lifts once more.

“I don’t like him, 'Ro” Duo whispered. “I don’t trust him one bit.”

“Hn. Now you see why I take WuFei with me on business trips instead of that,” said Heero.

“Yeah. He makes me feel dirty. He’s nasty,” said Duo, a shudder running through his entire body.

“Hey, shhh… it’s okay,” Heero said, smoothing his hair back from Duo's face. “You don’t have to ever see him again. But you needed to know what kind of person is around me.”

“Thanks. Now I’ll really worry when you’re not at home,” said Duo, burying his face in Heero's shoulder.

“Don’t. I’m only alone with him at the office and I’m always armed,” Heero told him. “Hey, let’s go back down. We need to go see Simon. Him, you will adore, I guarantee it.”

The ride back down was shared with two young ladies who kept peeking at Heero and blushing, but Heero looked disinterested and simply held Duo's hand. They strolled back to Lady Une’s desk after they departed the lift.

“Right on time, Mr Yuy. Please, go on up. Simon is expecting you.” Lady Une gave them a small half smile.

This lift was much nicer and they refrained from kissing during the ride up, choosing to allow the décor to dictate their behavior. The doors opened directly into Simon’s office.

“Heero,” came the warm tenor voice from the handsome man who looked to be in his early 50’s, but in remarkably good condition. Duo thought he looked a lot like Trowa Barton, at first glance.

“And this must be Mrs Yuy,” said Simon, coming to take Duo's hand, a very genuine smile on his face.

“Yes, Simon. If I may present my wife, Duo Maxwell-Yuy. Duo, this is Simon Bloom, my immediate boss,” Heero said, introducing them.

“Simon, it’s my pleasure,” responded Duo. “I wanted to thank you for all that you’ve done for us, the apartment, and that gorgeous car. No one had ever done anything like that for me before, and I wanted to meet you in person, and to say thanks.”

“Well, Mrs Yuy, Heero is one of our most valuable employees, not to mention a beloved friend of Master Quatre's, so it was our pleasure to provide all of the help we could in making the transition back into his life an easy one for you,” Simon replied.

“Duo,” Duo responded.

“Excuse me?” asked Simon, puzzled.

“Duo. No one ever calls me Mrs Yuy. It’s so formal, it feels kind of, you know, weird,” he confessed.

“Ah, yes, I understand. Thank you, Duo. But where are my manners? Please, come in, sit down,” Simon invited. “I took the liberty of ordering some lunch, and Mr Winner will be joining us when he finishes with his phone conference.”

They joined Simon on the couch and Duo dug into the lunch, trying to remember that he had been taught some manners by Noin, but mostly he ate while Heero told Simon the particulars of the mission he’d just completed. From what Duo gathered, Heero was an investigator, a trouble shooter for the company, doing work in similar fashion as they had in the guild, without the dead bodies to worry about, of course. Duo was busy in his own private contemplation and so was caught completely unawares by the blonde man that walked up behind him, oblivious, at least, until the hand hit his shoulder. Then Duo Maxwell went into maximum overdrive.

He did exactly what he had been trained to do without even thinking about it. His left hand grabbed the wrist of the hand on his right shoulder and pulled, hard. His right hand found the elbow and helped the body sail over the back of the couch. As the unknown assailant came down across his body, Duo twisted, throwing the man face first into the couch, bending the arm he still held up behind the man’s back and he straddled the man while reaching for one of his razor sharp knives. All of this happened in a matter of seconds, Duo moving so fast, Heero had almost no time to react to the perceived threat.

At the point where Duo was pulling out his knife, Heero had finally gotten an arm around Duo's throat and was pinching the nerve in the elbow of the hand holding the fallen man’s arm, trying to get him to release the helpless man, but Duo wasn’t about to let go without a struggle. So Heero finally lifted Duo bodily off of the man and drug him snarling and hissing away to the other couch, pulling him into his lap to try to calm the spitting cat, while Simon rushed to help the other man up off of the couch.

But calming was beyond Duo at this point. He fought Heero hysterically. Finally, Heero simply threw him to the floor, sat on him, pinning his arms, and slapped him until he stopped struggling and spewing obscenities at him. Then Heero pulled his bruised and battered lover into his arms and kissed and cuddled him until Duo stopped crying.

Meanwhile Simon and Azrael Winner, for that was Duo's unknown assailant, sat quietly and watched.

“He’s volatile, isn’t he?” commented Simon.

“Only when he’s scared or startled,” Heero answered. “He doesn’t like to have anyone sneak up on him. It kind of sets him off.”

“It was unintentional, I assure you,” replied Mr Winner, smiling. “Is he alright now?”

“Yeah, Duo's fine, aren’t you babe?” Heero jiggled him a bit and gave him a kiss, then seemed to remember himself and scrambled to his feet, hauling Duo up with him, but still holding him close, just in case.

“Ah, Mr Winner, may I present my wife, Duo Maxwell-Yuy. Duo this is Mr Winner, head of the Corporation. He’s also Quatre's father,” said Heero.

“Ah, pleased to meet you, sir,” Duo sniffed, wiping his nose on Heero's shoulder. “Ah, sorry about the whole couch thing. You, ah, kinda scared me.”

“My fault entirely, Mrs Yuy,” said Mr Winner, charmingly as he and Simon stood as well. “I shouldn’t have approached you from behind. Given what you and Mr Yuy are trained to do, I should have know better. You’re very quick, I might add, Mrs Yuy.”

“Please, just Duo. Mrs Yuy is too formal,” Duo blinked at him coyly. “It’s only for work.”

“Yes. And speaking of work, we have a proposal for the two of you, Heero, Duo,” said Mr Winner, then he looked at Simon as they all sat down once more.

“Heero, we would like you to take Duo as your new partner. We think the two of you can be a very effective team for our company. You know each other intimately and you have already been trained to work together.” Simon paused briefly. “I must confess, we have been hoping for quite some time that Mrs Heero Yuy would surface, because we know of your reputation from your guild days. We want that skill and that training at our disposal and we are willing to pay well for it. We need what only the two of you together can do. Provide us with a seamless, unrivaled investigation and troubleshooting team.”

“Would you be interested?” asked Azrael.

“Interested?” drawled Heero, looking at the squirming bundle of Duo sitting next to him. “What do you say, honey? Want to work with your old man again?”

“Do I get to dress up pretty?” asked Duo, eyes glowing.

“Of course, beautiful. How else are you gonna attract every eye in the place?” Heero quipped.

“Then, yeah,” said Duo simply.

“Guess that settles it, gentlemen,” said Heero. “Duo wants to play.”

“Great, we will work at getting him on the payroll,” said Simon. “Mrs Yuy, welcome to W.E.I.”

Duo jumped to his feet, held out his hand and pulled Heero up to stand next to him. Then they all shook hands.

“Well, I’d better get Duo out of here before some other disaster strikes,” said Heero, escorting Duo to the lift. As they left, they heard Simon speaking.

“Well, Azrael, you’ve got your players. Now the game begins.”

“Ah, but Simon, we have the best players.”

“Yes, we do. Luck smiled on us the day Master Quatre met Heero Yuy.”

The rest of the conversation was lost to them as they descended to the ground level once more.

“Heero,” said Duo, playing with his lover’s hand.

“What, babe?” Heero asked.

“Lunch? I’m still hungry,” Duo pouted, and the lip came out. The lift door opened to Heero gently kissing away the pout from his lover’s lips.

Laughing, Heero escorted his glowing wife from the main office of W.E.I. and off into the world of the working people. Or at least the working people who were at lunch.
