I also do not own the song or lyrics One Night in Bangkok by Murry Head.
I had no idea that the song was actually part of a larger stage show named ‘Chess’ written by Benny Andersson, Bjor Ulvaeus and Tim Rice. Which I own no rights to either.
I am not making any money from this work of fanfiction.
A/N- This is actually a G/V get together fic. However, some of the other pairings may surprise you. :) I think there’s only one cannon couple in here. Obviously VERY A/U.
I hope this is a fun read for anyone who may be interested in such a combination.
Beta’d by Hoshi. Thank you Hoshi! (And thanks to rdk for catching a few others).
(DBZ/chess (the game, not the play.))
Rating – PG13 – or at least that’s what I was hoping for.
Warnings – OOC, A/U, mentions and kisses of M/M, mentions and kisses of M/F, chess, foul language, some minor roles of OC’s.
Round 5
Radditz woke with a groan. His dreams had been a cross between chaotic and erotic, but the groan was from the aching in his head. He wiped the drool away from his mouth and grimaced in disgust at himself.
He pressed himself up into a sitting position on the thin mat on the floor that was supposed to serve as a sleeping accommodation. He started to comb his fingers through his hair and then realized he had slept with it still braided. Grumbling at himself, he reached back to pull out the tie and then began pulling the weave apart.
He scratched at his scalp once he was through and then finally stood. “Shower, now,” he mumbled to himself.

Chichi lifted her head away from her fist as she heard Vegeta proclaim, “Checkmate,” much to Jonathan and his fiancé’s chagrin.
This last round had taken considerably more time than the first had. Jonathan had taken his time, examining his moves much more than he had the first game when he had thought of Vegeta as nothing but a newbie. Even though his hindsight was 20/20, it still did not pay off in the end when the clock became a factor. Vegeta completely outmatched him when it came to quick tactical decisions.
Jonathan stared at the board a little longer and then reached his hand out for a fair shake.
Vegeta shook Jonathan’s hand, but said nothing as to whether or not he thought it had been a good game.
Apparently theirs had been the last game in progress. Groups of people stood scattered about, but most of them had an air of tiredness about them. Several couples had left already, heading for foreign hotels with warm beds waiting.
Jonathan stood. “Good luck with the rest of the tournament.” He said as he turned to his fiancé. At an unspoken agreement the two of them turned and headed towards the check-in Chichi and Vegeta had not had a chance to take advantage of.
Vegeta stood then, gazing around the room, looking for the Capsule Corporation siblings. Chichi’s body was slow to follow. She desperately wanted her bed at home.
Vegeta sighed as he noticed a flash of blue and gold leaving the building through the long hallway entry. He turned to the sleepy Chichi. “I guess I can wait to talk to them tomorrow night.”
Chichi couldn’t help the small smile of approval. Vegeta didn’t even look tired. “Probably better. No one is all that great at talking business when weary.” She yawned, belatedly covering her mouth.
“Hn.” Vegeta agreed noncommittally.
Chichi stood and straightened out her little black dress. She picked her crocheted black shawl from off of the back of the leather chair and flung it around her shoulders. ‘Tomorrow I’ll wear something brighter,’ she thought to herself.
Vegeta waited, still scanning the room. Old habits died hard. If anything wayward were to happen, he suspected it would be now, when everyone was off their guard.
Nothing insidious happened as the two of them left. Taul said goodbye to them, the same as he was to all of the guests.
Chichi was surprised when they finally exited to see that the sun was coming up. “Oh my,” she groaned, “I need some sleep.”
Vegeta smiled at her. After having been on this planet for three months, he understood the nature of humans needing to sleep for almost a third of their day. He shook his head to himself as Chichi reached into her purse for the capsule containing her vehicle. She popped the cap and tossed it into the street.
“How about you let me drive?” Vegeta suggested, seeing how tired she was.
Chichi smiled and replied, “Then how will you get back to your body guards?”
Vegeta snickered as he opened the driver’s side door. “The same as we got to your place last night.”
Chichi was almost a little put off that Vegeta hadn’t opened her door for her, but she shrugged it off. “How was that?” she asked as she sat down and put her safety belt on.
Vegeta looked around. “Tell you in a moment,” he said, not certain of who was still around.
Chichi nodded, her eyes closing of their own accord as Vegeta started the car and took off in the direction the Ox King’s palace.
A moment later, after having cleared city streets and early morning people he spoke, shaking Chichi from her doze. “We flew.”
Chichi snorted, a rude little sound, but her manners were taking a back seat to her lethargy. “Like we are doing now?”
Vegeta grinned and winked. “Not at all. We flew. We don’t need vehicles to support us in air.”
Chichi was almost roused to full wakefulness by this statement, before she remembered Vegeta wasn’t human. “Wow!” she said excitedly. Flying like a bird had been a dream of hers as a child. “How?!”
Vegeta thought about it. How to explain this to someone who had no knowledge of energy manipulation? “How about I explain it this evening, when I come to get you for tonight’s portion of the tournament?”
Chichi nodded. Then she thought better of it. “I could meet you there? After all, you’re only a couple of miles away in the first place.”
Vegeta shrugged. “The people I want to do business with are going to be at the tournament. I don’t have anything scheduled for the days.”
Chichi smiled sleepily. “Okay, you explain it later tonight.” Suddenly a panicked expression crossed her face. Vegeta did not have to wait long before she explained it. “Are you coming over for dinner again?”
Vegeta laughed. His flying was not a problem? Her real concerns were about dinner plans? “No. I’ll find something on my own. Not that your dinner wasn’t excellent and filling, but I do understand that I eat more than should be expected for anyone to accommodate for in a week on this planet.”
Chichi visibly relaxed. “Okay.” She yawned again.

Goku carried his sister into the elevator. Bulma had fallen asleep during the cab ride back. He had tried to rouse her, but had barely gotten any acknowledgement for his efforts. He pressed the buttons to take them to the top floor and then leaned against the elevator’s walls to wait the ride out. He could have flown to the top of the building, but had a feeling if his sister did wake while he was doing so, she would give him an earful about acting ‘unnatural’ in public. She had told him she did not mind he could do those things personally, but Capsule Corp’s reputation was always in the back of her mind. Just like it was his, for the most part.
He rested his head back against the wall, looking up at the dim lights in the elevator’s ceiling. He closed his eyes and thought about the people he had met for the first time this evening.
Chichi had an awesome amount of power…for being a girl. He thought he would really like to see how she handled herself in a spar.
Vegeta…other than looks Goku did not have much to base any assessment of the man on. The man had been very quiet and serious. Almost too serious for a group of people who were getting together for something to do that was out of the norm for them. Goku did not want to make any assumptions as to what that could mean.
He heaved a sigh as the elevator dinged that they had reached the floor he had designated. The doors opened and he walked through them, careful not to hit his sister’s head on the frame.
Walking down the hall he looked for their room number. He passed Krillan’s and Yamcha’s room and heard loud snores coming from the room. ‘Poor Krillan,’ he thought to himself. He hoped the monk had brought a pair of earplugs.
Goku set his sister down as he reached their door. He reached into the pocket inside his suit jacket and grabbed out the door key card and slid it into the locking device. It beeped at him and the L.E.D. indicator turned green. He picked Bulma up quickly, yet gently and opened the door to their room. He held Bluma awkwardly as he flipped back the covers on his sister’s bed, took her shoes off and then covered her with the blankets. Bulma immediately snuggled in, turning onto her side and soft snores left her mouth.
Goku turned away from his sister and started undoing the tie around his neck. He tossed it carelessly on his bed before doing the same with his jacket. He opened the closet that was his and reached in for his second suitcase. He turned back to make sure he was not making too much noise. His sister had not moved. He toed his shoes off and then stripped his pants. He opened his baggage and pulled out a blue and orange training outfit – he probably would not be sleepy for another day. He had lots of time to kill before his sister and his friends woke from their normal sleeping patterns. A kata or two on the roof of the building would not do any harm while he was waiting.

Radditz toweled himself off. He felt much better after the long soak he had taken under the hot spray of water.
He went back to his room in order to get a change of clothes and that is when he noticed the prince’s door to the room down the hall was still open. Unease set in the pit of Radditz’ stomach. He by passed his room to check the prince’s chambers and found his gut had been correct. The heir was not in his room.
Not quite panicking, Radditz hurried back to his room to don a change of clothes quickly. “NAPPA!” he hollered while he was pulling a shirt down over the top of his head. He received no reply from the other and hurried to dress the rest of the way. He picked his scouter up and placed the device over his ear, clicking it on as he headed towards the front room.
Where he found Nappa, passed out with one empty sake` bottle on the table, and another hugged to his chest. Growling in disgust, he quickly walked out the front door, slamming it behind him.
His scouter was picking up two signals, both of which were in the same direction. “At least that is a break,” he said to himself. If the first one he passed was not Vegeta, he could continue on. He had a feeling it was not though. It was lower than what Vegeta’s usual signature reading was. Of course, if the prince had been drugged, that could cause his ki reading to be lower.
Radditz ducked into an alleyway, making sure it was empty, before he shot into the air quicker than a human eye could follow. Vegeta had been very stern about the matter. The prince did not want their presence on this planet to become known to the general public.
The longhaired bodyguard took off at full speed once he had reached a height he deemed he would be only thought of as a bird. Thankfully, there were some rather large reptilian flyers on this planet. Other wise, he would have almost had to go up to the stratosphere.

Goku pushed his muscles as much as he dared on top of the building. He did not want to fracture the roof of the building, so he was focusing on keep all of his tensing internal, where it really did the most good any way. Sweat was starting to soak his gi and the faint breeze that blew was cooling to his skin where it was bare.
He was envisioning fighting Piccolo and would have normally noticed the ki that was going overhead, but thought he was imaging his opponent so well he could sense his ki.
~o0o~
The first ki signature was on top of one of the high-rise buildings in the middle of a rather large human settlement. Radditz was thankful he/she/it was on top of the building. It meant he did not have to go to ground level in order to investigate whom it was.
He only spared a moment or two in observation before he headed in the direction of the Ox King’s castle. The second ki reading had stopped moving at about the point he remembered the place to be.

Vegeta landed the vehicle with a bit of a bounce. It was not rough, but enough it nudged Chichi out of her sleep. “We’re here,” she heard Vegeta say.
Chichi opened her eyes slowly. “It was really a long night for me,” she commented sleepily.
Vegeta grunted. He did not know how else to respond. He got out of the vehicle and waited for Chichi to do the same. Chichi walked around to the driver’s side and pressed a button on the steering wheel and backed up quickly as the car became capsulated.
She bent to retrieve the small object as Vegeta once again contemplated the technology for the amazing invention it was. Chichi stumbled a bit as she stood back up and Vegeta graciously caught her elbow. “I’ll walk you to the door,” he insisted.
The princess gave him a grateful smile and let him lead the way. “Get some rest,” Vegeta suggested as she unlocked the door. She turned to give him a thankful smile. When her eyes started widening, Vegeta looked over his shoulder.
Radditz landed just as it seemed his prince was leaving the castle/mansion of the Ox King. He tried his best not to let the disappointment he felt at seeing Chichi and his prince together flood his features. “Your Highness, I was concerned,” he said as he bowed. He looked up quickly, trying to get a good last look at Chichi’s face. If his prince was showing interest in the female it was best that this be the last full look he gave her.
“No need for concern Radditz. The Ox King taught me how to play a strategy game and there just happened to be a tournament going on. That’s where the princess and I have been all evening,” Vegeta tried not to smirk as Radditz’ features were over come with relief.
Radditz tried to cover his reaction, but he knew it was too late to have hidden it from his prince’s notice. “Well, I am going to be going,” Chichi said. If she had the energy, she would have invited the two of them in for tea…or something, but she did not. She would hardly be a gracious hostess if she passed out on the two of them in the middle of a conversation.
“I’ll see you at sundown,” Vegeta said. Chichi nodded before closing the door quietly behind her.
Vegeta turned back to Radditz and grinned at the look of confusion and chagrin on his bodyguard’s features. He debated internally if he should leave the first class wondering what his intentions were for the Ox King’s daughter, but then thought better of it. “Come, I’ll explain on the way back to our place,” he said as he levitated into the air.
Radditz was incredulous that Vegeta was breaking his own stern rule, “She might see us!”
Vegeta laughed, “She already saw you…besides, she knows.”
“Oh,” Radditz stated, even more dejected at this piece of news. If the prince had told her of their abilities Radditz surmised his prince’s intentions were quite serious.
“You should be happy she knows. She took the news we weren’t from this planet very well, all things considered,” Vegeta stated as he took off in the direction he knew their rented house to be.
“Yes your Highness,” Radditz’ lack of enthusiasm for the whole situation tainted his response.
Vegeta stopped mid-flight and Radditz almost ran into him. “Stop moping,” the prince demanded. Radditz immediately lifted his chin up and straightened out his shoulders. “Gah!” Vegeta exclaimed, “I’m not interested in her moron!”
Radditz’ whole countenance changed following that proclamation. “Then…?” Radditz stopped, he did not want to jump to any conclusions, but his heart was already lurching with elation.
“She does however, have a keen interest in…” Vegeta paused, tweaking this moment for a little more payback.
“IN??!!…” Radditz spoke and blushed. It was not like him to let his emotions get the better of him. He felt as though he was back in basic training, being teased by his senior comrades, not someone almost a decade his junior.
Vegeta crossed his arms. “You!” he was quite pleased with himself for having pulled Radditz’ strings so well, he did not even contemplate having to have his defenses up. He squawked in a very un-princely manner as his bodyguard lunged for his throat.
Radditz lifted one hand back while he kept the other around Vegeta’s throat. He was seriously contemplating planting a good one into Vegeta’s cheek before his scouter beeped at him.
Both of them came up short a few feet from the ground. The bodyguard let go of his charge in order to scan, “Crap, a reading of 483, coming this way. Fast.”
Vegeta clamped down on his ki quickly. “Lower your ki,” he ordered as he touched down to ground.
“I didn’t know they had scouters,” Radditz whispered, unnecessarily as he followed his prince’s example.
“They don’t. Remember? We trained to control our ki because some of them are able to detect ki readings without scouters,” Vegeta said. Radditz nodded, remembering part of the little information they were able to deduce from random bouncing communication waves on their trip here.
Vegeta sighed. He did not wish to pick a fight. Well, it would be fun, but that was not what was best for his people, “We’re going to have to run for it.”
Radditz started to lift off from ground, but Vegeta grabbed his wrist before he could get too far. “No, I mean, literally run. Who ever it is may be able to detect flight ki, now that we have their attention.”
“Lead the way,” Radditz told his superior. Vegeta took off on the ground at a 90-degree angle from the unknown pursuer’s flight path. Running straight under the person was not an option.

Goku was certain he had felt two great ki presences in this direction. He hung in mid-air, surveying the ground beneath him. What or whoever they were had seemingly disappeared though.
“I’d better get back before Bulma wakes up,” he said to himself as he turned back in the direction he had come from.
He also decided to inform Krillan and Yamcha of this detection. If there were unfriendly forces a foot, it would be best everyone was on alert.
