I can't remember if they had senzu beans at the start of the Tournament in the show, but just because it's more fun this way, we'll say they didn't. On another note, FF.net is being a whore and not letting me update there.

Dragonball E
Chapter 6
By B. Amos

Everything had been a dark blur after a painful wait. Ba'Tege had lunged in for another attack, of which he had been prepared for. At least he thought he was. Then he heard Turles and Piccolo shouting before something warm spattered over his face and the smell of blood filled his nose. Everything had happened much faster than he anticipated and it took him a lethargic moment to register the damage done.
"What the devil are you doing?!" Ba'Tege snarled, jumping back after pulling the lance-like sword away. It was coated in blood but it wasn't that of his intended target.
"V-Vegeta?!" Goku jerked back to the present just in time to catch his long time rival as he stumbled back. What would have gotten the taller saiyajin in the chest had badly injured the smaller man's shoulder. Lowering him down into a sitting position, Goku took the remaining portions of the upper part of his orange gi to bind the wound. Vegeta hissed when pressure was applied to the bleeding wound and then he went slack, falling unconscious.
"Raditz, get back here!!" Krillin barked, trying to grab the long haired saiyajin's tail before he got too far but he was much too fast for the short human.
Turles and Piccolo froze and looked in their direction, seeing the man go in for an attack. Trunks tried to follow suit, infuriated that his father was hurt but the namekian grabbed his collar in time to stop him. "You idiot, don't go blindly into the fight!" The boy tried to argue but another yank back kept him from trying again. Running past them, Gohan rushed over to his dad while Goku tried to do his best to tend to the wound. The green warrior scoffed, "Gohan, get him out of there. Let your father continue this fight!"
"Ah, blind as newborn monkeys." Be'Tege turned away, letting the Sons do what they would with the prince as he redirected his attention to the new assailant. Raditz had stopped a few yards away, throwing one hand in the air to charge his one of his ki attacks. He smirked, snorting lightly before he decided he would have some extra fun. The cloaked fighter charged, smashing a knee into the long haired saiyajin's stomach. The ki charge was completely abandoned as Raditz doubled over and gasped, gripping his stomach with one arm. Ba'Tege leered down at him before he smirked, "How about I tuck you away for a little bit while I deal with these other pests?"
"Wha-" Raditz grit his teeth against the pain. His eyes went wide as the cloak was swept around and over him. Ba'Tege pulled it back, revealing the empty space where the saiyajin had been.
"What the hell?" 18 gasped, staring at the cloak as she tried to figure out where someone as large as that bonehead could disappear. Turles twitched when he saw his eldest nephew missing.
"Raditz?!" Goku stood up as his son took the unconscious prince from him. He snarled, powering into the first phase of super saiyajin. This was enough, now he was going to make that bastard pay. "What'd you do with him?"
"I tossed him into the shadows for a little bit. If you want him back, then do me a favor and DIE." Both of the warriors let out their respective battle cries before lunging at one another. At super saiyajin, the erratic nature to Ba'Tege's attacks were not nearly as devastating but they weren't any more predictable than before. When Goku made a slip, the shadowy warrior slammed his sword onto his shoulder with amazing force, dazing the saiyajin. It also burned when it touched his bare skin, leaving a black, smoking singe mark. Goku grimaced before he pulled back and swung his hardest punch in retaliation.
"Surprise!" With a flourish of his cloak, not only did Ba'Tege dodge but Raditz stumbled out of the his cape to take the blow head on. Goku gasped, only able to pull back so much of the force as he knocked his brother clear out of the ring and into a far wall. Growling as his anger grew, he turned and drove his foot into a surprised Ba'Tege's side, who grunted and stumbled back.
"Trunks, Goten...!" Piccolo hissed, seeing the boys rush around to go to the downed saiyajin. He blinked, seeing two of the contestants who had sat on the side inching out more. The larger one, Spopovitch, was holding something in his hands, aimed at the fighters. He turned, seeing the second reclusive pair who had divided attention. Kibito was watching Spopovitch while Shin was watching the fight, dread and fascination mixed on his face. Gohan returned to them with Vegeta who was still unconscious and a bloody mess. He grabbed his pupil's shoulder and whispered hurriedly to him before he set the injured down. He gestured to Yamu and Spopovitch, "Keep an eye on those guys...I don't think this is all about that Ba'Tege creature."
Raditz flinched. He couldn't entirely fathom what just happened, all he remembered was some place that was dark and unholy, things clawing at him and something chilling him down to the bone. Then a burst of light and Kakarot was knocking the tar out of him and he was saying 'hi' to Mr. Wall.
"Ah! Uncle Raditz, are you okay?!" Goten whined, coming over with his best friend to see the damage done. "Oh wow! It looks like you got into a fight with some mean kitty!"
"More like the kitty from Hell..." Trunks mumbled, going over and lifting the saiyajin's head just slightly. This was no where near the fight so grumpy Piccolo couldn't say a thing! He watched Raditz grimace, and he tried to figure out what to do. They couldn't go dragging him anywhere, injured or not, it would be far from dignifying. The young Briefs was relieved when Turles joined them to retrieve his nephew.
"This is insane. Get back over there while I drag this moron's carcass back."
~+~
'I've got to get that thing away from him!' Goku thought in panic.
Most of the damage was coming from that cursed weapon Ba'Tege insisted on swinging at him like a damned baseball bat, even when he was super saiyajin. He could sense that as he increased his power, the other did the same to keep them on even ground. Goku didn't doubt that it was possible this monster could overpower him if he chose. But like a sadistic cat, he was toying with his prey, trying to scratch and pulverize him to death. There had been only one aim at a quick kill but now it seemed Ba'Tege was punishing him for the interruption.
Goku dodged all the incoming blows, waiting for his window before he seized it. He powered up the fastest destructo-disk he could muster before slinging it at the shadowy warrior's swinging arm. He was given a terrible shriek in reply as the sword arm was severed away at the elbow and he smirked in some satisfaction. Ba'Tege flailed, gripping his wounded arm as dark blood oozed out and screaming madly. After a minute, Goku could tell something wasn't right and once he realized his show was not to his opponent's satisfaction anymore, Ba'Tege stilled and looked at him with a smirk. "What? Not buying it? Fine then."
The dismembered arm and the sword dissipated into shadowy dust before they returned to him, making him whole again much to Goku's horror. He couldn't figure out what he was fighting anymore.
Ba'Tege spun the sword in the air like a baton. "The darkness can't be penetrated let alone severed except by the light and I don't see you wielding one of the Sovereign's trinkets. Like me."
"Impossible!" Shin suddenly exclaimed. "She would never let something so loathsome use one of her items of power!"
"Please, last time I checked, that holier than thou Sovereign let me waltz right into the demon kingdom and take it, Kaaaaai." The cloaked man made a mock bow at the Kai before he went back to dealing with Goku. Piccolo grunted behind the bewildered Shin, having deduced the small man's identity with some difficulty earlier. Now it was merely confirmed. Shin's eyes darted from the two fighters who had once more engaged one another to Spopovitch and Yamu. He was torn between what he had come to the Tournament to do in the first place and investigating this news of the Sovereign Kai further.
"I've had enough of this!" Goku roared, his patience finally worn thin as he pushed his power even higher, ascending. Electricity crackled around him and it was then Yamu and Spopovitch sprang forward on the attack.
"Dad!" Gohan and Piccolo moved forward to stop them but found themselves frozen in place. They looked back to gawk at the Supreme Kai. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm sorry, but while this may also need to be dealt with, so too does Babidi...We cannot allow him to resurrect Majin Buu and the only way we'll find him is to-"
Anticipating the pair, Ba'Tege switched from Goku to intercept Yamu and Spopovitch. As he had with Raditz, he swept his cloak out to absorb them into the darkness. They had stalled for a second, seeing him coming but were unable to escape as they disappeared into nothingness. He held up the black fabric, shaking it a little as Shin gaped. "Hn. I won't be so merciful with them and let them out. Ever. And, Babidi? You mean that flea? Hm..." He turned, pointing his sword at Goku, "I'm growing tired of this, Kakarot! I won't be having any more interruptions while I kill you!"
Goku huffed, still ascended. "Weird, when you talk it reminds me of the old Vegeta..."
"Really? I can't imagine why." Reaching up, he pulled away the mask and the hood, causing everyone to stare in awe. In many ways, it was like they were indeed looking at the prince, but significantly older and more feral. Yet his ears were pointed, reddened around his dark eyes and his fangs were much more noticeable and longer than the common saiyajin. He smirked at the staring, then gestured his thumb at Turles, "You all look so confused. I don't think little Vegeta would remember me very well, but you look like you might have a vague clue."
"I thought they sent you to the asylum planet, Alcaz..." Turles stepped back. He remembered now that he got a good look at the fiend's face. The king's eldest son. The elder saiyajin scowled, bringing up a fist, "How did you wind up here?! You were deemed unfit to even be around your own kind so your father sent you to Alcaz...And no one escapes from there!"
"Not even Parsle, eh?"
Goku blinked when his uncle looked visibly shaken. "How...dare you...even..." Turles shook with rage. His tail puffed to twice the thickness as he fought the urge to absolutely lose it.
"A dick move on father's part, wasn't it? Then again, if he can't go out right killing the bastard to take what he wants, maybe it provides some leverage to hold him in custody doesn't it? Tell me, did you secretly enjoy being his whore and spawning that worm Tarble?"
That tore the lid right off. The irritated saiyajin lost his grasp on any bit of restraint he had been clinging to, powering up significantly which startled the others into stepping back from him before his hair flickered and went gold. Goku squawked in surprise, seeing his uncle go super saiyajin in pure rage before he tried to attack Ba'Tege, who was unworried by the newfound surge of energy. Unlike the other super saiyajins, this one wasn't nearly as trained. "Turles, don't!" Piccolo ordered as the saiyajin ignored him and dove for the source of his ire with all the speed he could muster, roaring with absolute fury.
"I guess I have to put all three of you whores in your respective places!" Ba'Tege laughed as he lifted his sword over the opposite shoulder to quickly to bring it down in a crushing motion on the incoming attacker at the crook of his neck and into the stone floor. Turles went down easily with a strangled yelp and flickered back to normal once grounded. Ba'Tege's sights swept the grounds before he swung his sword through the air, building a mass amount of ki as he did so.
"Watch out!" 18 warned, diving behind the stone walls with her husband and the kids.
Ba'Tege brought the sword down, thrusting it into the stone of the ring before an explosion of black energy went off, throwing all the nearby warriors away. Turles, Gohan, Piccolo and Shin crashed into the contender's box with the others while Goku was thrown into the stands behind him, sending some of the bystanders who had foolishly lingered running. While they started to recover from the explosion, Ba'Tege fired a barrage of dark ki blasts into the occupied stands that had yet to clear out, clouding the air with smoke and sprinkling debris, tainted with the smell of charred flesh. He had cleared half the stadium by the time Goku recovered and plowed him into the ground with his elbow.
"I've never...encountered such energy." Piccolo picked himself up from the sundered stonework and knelt over an unconscious Turles, relieved that the fool wasn't dead just yet. He frowned deeply, tucking the disturbing information that the demonic saiyajin had spouted away for future questions.
"It's darkness incarnate is what it is..." Shin murmured, on his feet with Kibito and Gohan. "I wanted to deny his claim but it's become alarmingly clear that he isn't lying!"
"What is this 'trinket' he's referring to?"
The Supreme Kai frowned at the namekian. He wasn't sure if he was to disclose such information just yet. "No time...What we need to do is remove him from here lest he continue to cause damage. Try as Son Goku may, they seem evenly matched, but I don't think Ba'Tege has truly tapped into the deeper recesses of the power he holds. It will only be a matter of time before he does and if he succeeds, the universe may very well unravel."
"You've got to be kidding me!" Gohan exclaimed.
"I wish I were...Let me just say that this artifact makes the holder an avatar for the very elemental powers that forge the universe of which it is affiliated as well as significantly boosting their personal strength...While they have it mind you. From what I can judge, he has the artifact of darkness."
"And the rest of these so called elemental artifacts?" 18 queried from the doorway nearby with her husband.
"Dubious to say...Right at the moment, they are not a pressing issue."
Krillin gulped. "So...How do we stop this guy?"
~+~
'I believe I have let you and your friends stumble along with this issue long enough...'
Vegeta gasped, having been knocked into the wall due to the blast from where Gohan had laid him on a bench. His shoulder throbbed horribly and his head swam. He wasn't sure what had possessed him to do that, for Kakarot of all people. The voice that had spoken chided that he damn well knew the answer, but his mind was mired in denial. His face scrunched up, feeling his body move as if of it's own accord as he got to his feet. On instinct, his hand reached up to grip his wounded shoulder.
'I am amazed that the Eastern Supreme Kai is so surprised...They all knew that at some point this would happen. And they knew just what kind of warriors I intended to fill in the roles of the avatars. Whatever may be, whether you mortals die is inconsequential, so long as the dragons remain. Now sit back while I delay this skirmish for another time.' The lyrical yet damned familiar voice in his head prattled on as he felt increasingly distant from his own being. The terrible pain in his shoulder had disappeared, replaced with a strange numbness, temporarily blinded to everything around him due to the stark, white light that filled his mind's eye.
Back in the physical world, the saiyajin looked at his shoulder with brief chagrin before raising his hands. The others jumped, taken aback by the feel of a rising ki behind them. A ring of light appeared on the ground, extending just beyond the walls and rays of white energy seemed to rise from the ground.
Gohan blinked. "Vegeta? What are you..."
They all looked at themselves and each other, feeling strangely rejuvenated. Raditz and Turles both stirred before they woke up, blinking away the haze from their eyes. The scratches the long haired saiyajin had suffered in the dark world had slowly mended themselves. "What the hell is going on?" He blinked at his hand.
"Since when could Vegeta heal people?!" Krillin demanded as the ring of light gradually faded away and the prince, or so it seemed, lowered his hands.
"Not now. Supreme Kai." The short saiyajin's body nodded at Shin as he passed the flummoxed group, speaking in not only his voice but another voice, one the Supreme Kai immediately recognized. His face was so uncharacteristically relaxed and soft, some of them had to do a double take to make sure they weren't imagining things.
"Sovereign?! What is going on here?!" He cried, if anyone, she would be the only one who could give him any real answers. But what he didn't understand was why she was utilizing an agent. Had something happened to her that she needed to work through another being?
"I would love to explain to you things that you should already be well aware of by now, but I have to exorcise this fool so that you may have a little bit of time to prepare and I don't have an expansive window with which to do it." Vegeta's body made it's way to the ring where Goku and Ba'Tege had continued fighting until they noticed a third party was involved. Ba'Tege especially took note as he jumped from the other saiyajin and was baffled with Vegeta's appearance, who had not only shifted to super saiyajin but was glowing with an unusual light. He hissed, realizing something.
"So! You were hiding that on me, were you?! Just because you have the light doesn't mean you'll beat me! I've grown more accustomed to wielding the darkness than you and your weak light!"
"Well..." Vegeta smirked. Ba'Tege's reddened eyes widened with some alarm. That was no voice he recognized. "I find that dubious considering I forged these items so you may be a little hard-pressed to outdo me."
"The Sovereign Kai?!" The eldest prince howled, unable to believe what he was seeing and hearing. Faster than any of them could see, Vegeta's body phased out of sight and he gasped, head whipping around to try and pinpoint where he went. He and Goku looked at one another before something clicked and they both jerked their heads up to see Vegeta overhead.
The possessed saiyajin's eyes glowed brightly as expansive transparent wings formed and he charged an intense, glowing ball of energy at the tip of his pointing finger, aimed right at Ba'Tege. Goku gaped, feeling the power from it. The energy was very much like his spirit bomb. He looked down as a ring appeared around the cloaked warrior, who started to panic. It was holding him in one spot, prime for the attack. With his other hand, the possessed saiyajin pulled back as if he had a bow and arrow in hand. The focal point of energy at his finger grew several times stronger before he fired the blast. The wave of light energy thundered down on the wailing target who was crushed under the intense power. The other warriors covered their eyes from the blinding flash of the collision.
When the light died down, Ba'Tege was no more. There wasn't even a crater, only ash was left where he stood. Goku blinked in awe before he noticed the rapidly dropping power just above him. He flew up in time to catch the falling saiyajin. Vegeta had reverted back to normal and seemed relatively unharmed. "What in the world..." Goku puzzled over what just occurred as he slowly drifted down. He looked towards the others who didn't seem to have any more answers than he did as they cautiously stepped towards the devastated ring.
"S-So that freaky guy is dead now? Right?!" The short human asked with high hopes. Raditz and Turles looked at one another, not certain whether that could be an astute assumption.
"Didn't it say it was going to exorcise him?" It wasn't so much a question as it was recollecting what the odd spirit that had taken over Vegeta's body had said. 18 watched her husband fidget. "He looked a little different than your garden variety saiyajin."
"Indeed." Shin agreed. "He stunk of some corruption though I can't say what. I don't believe it was wholly the artifact. I don't think the Sovereign Kai destroyed him so much as threw him back into whatever hellish pit he crawled from. It may take him some time to recuperate...That being the case we'll have to hunt Babidi down in the meantime."
"He seemed to know who you were talking about. What are the odds he didn't pay this Babidi a visit himself?" Goku frowned, feeling the prince stir a little but didn't set him down yet. "I think you have some explaining to do and fast..."
The Surpreme Kai frowned. He stared at Vegeta a little bit, uncertain what to make of the Sovereign's appearance. Or semi-appearance as it were. His eyes drifted to the saiyajin's chest. If he had the artifact, it would show. Shin stepped over and pulled down the neck of Vegeta's tank top just enough to see the middle of his chest. Three white stars. Goku's brows arched high, never seeing that before, "Wait. What is that?"
"Hm..." The Supreme Kai stepped back, appearing pensive. "I have a great deal of explaining to do."
