Part Four-b

Wufei lifted his eyes from the book he was reading. Unsure as to what exactly had distracted him, his dark eyes searched the even darker shadows of his study. When he found nothing out of the ordinary he started to return to his studding. His eyes caught the flicker of a deeper shadow that shouldn’t be moving and Duo’s form coalesced out of the darkness.

“Wufei.”

The boy shuddered at the raw power contained in that velvet voice. His body reacted appropriately to the stimulus and Wufei was suddenly very glad of the large book that covered his lap. Clearing his throat he answered a bit shakily. “Yes Duo?”

Shinigami held out his hand to his chosen sacrifice. “Come. We must prepare. It is nearly time.

That soft voice wove its way back into Duo’s mind. “He’d be willing if you just asked. Would that save him do you think?”

*Shut up! Just SHUT THE FUCK UP!*

“Ask him…” The voice murmured. “Ask…”

Wufei looked questioningly at him. He’d seen the jewel toned eyes harden into chips of flinty determination and wondered what had caused the normally cheerful and often playful Shinigami to become so suddenly serious. The necromancer started to open his mouth to ask but obviously Duo was watching out of the corner of his eye.

“Not now.”

Wufei lowered his eyes to watch the ground in front of him. Dutifully following the end of a braid bouncing through thekneskness in front of him, Wufei stumbled over a tree root obscured in the leaves they were trekking through. Anticipating a harsh meeting with the ground, he braced himself for the pain of impact. He was surprised when he was caught and held in arms reminiscent of bands of steel long before his body made contact with the hard earth.

Duo heard the necromancer stumble and turned to catch the slight body before he even thought about it. The braidod wod was more confused than ever. Why hadn’t he just let him fall? *Because he would have been hurt. And I don’t want to hurt him. Not ever.*

The mortal boy seemed just as puzzled as Shinigami. *Why did he catch me? He could have let me fall; it shouldn’t have made any difference to him. Why is he being so caring toward me??* “Duo—“ he ventured.

Duo was busy being disgusted with himself. When his companion spoke it grated across his already tightened nerves like steel on flint, and it produced the same sparks. “Silence!” He barked.

Wufei wisely quieted.

“He cares for you mortal.”

The voice that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once startled Wufei and he very nearly stumbled again. *What?!*

“Listen and heed well, mortal. When the time comes, do not let him take you. Offer yourself freely and all will be set right.”

Wufei glanced at Duo’s expressionless face and burning eyes. The man had shown no response to the voice.

“He can not hear. Just remember what I have said.”

*Nani? What the hell?? When what time comes?*

“You will know, necromancer. Just remember…” and as swiftly as the voice had intruded into his thoughts it was gone.

*****

Zechs carefully regarded his companions. “This is where he will come. He will be here—“

“Now.” Duo’s voice rang through the still clearing.

Wufei stumbled out of the low brush and into a maelstrom of wind and blinding light. He gazed for the first time upon the countenances of the gods of Light, Wind, and Fire, and for some reason he held absolutely no fear.

Their beauty, the pure perfection of the three gods was terrible to behold and yet the dark boy could not dredge up even the slightest hint of trepidation at being confronted with their anger. Calmly he stepped forward to stand firm beside Duo. Beside his love.

*Yes. I do love him...* smiling he faced the wrath of the gods.

“So you have finally admitted it have you?”

Slowly the wind calmed as Zechs regained his composure and the light dimmed to a more tolerable level. “So. You are the one who broke the seal. That was supposed to be impossible you know. How exactly was it that you were able to do so?” Eyes the color of the highest reaches of the atmosphere, a cold ice blue, pinned him to the spot. Though the voice itself was calm, those cerulean eyes seethed and roiled with unnamed emotion.

For the first time Wufei felt the stirrings of fear. “I—“

“He was able to break it because he was able to love him.” Another boy stepped from the line of trees on the other side of the clearing. One piercing green eye focused on Wufei, and the god of Earth move sta stand beside his angry lover. He leaned down to give the smaller boy a soft kiss. “I missed you love.”

“Trowa!” Those iridescent eyes fixed on him. The anger in them was just as easy to see as the love and Quatre moved easily into his arms.

Zechs laughed making Wufei shudder. “Love him?? How could this foolish mortal claim to love a god?? Especially the god who has killed him so many times over the millennia?”

“Shut up Zechs.” Duo warned.

*What does he mean killed me?* Wufei turned to look at the man standing next to him. That slim form seethed with anger and something else. *What is it? What does he need?*

Quatre stepped forward. “The ceremony will not be completed Duo. Not on this night or any other. Return to the place beyond the Seventh Gate.”

“I will not. This time, one way or another it will be done.”

He turned to Wufei. “What do you choose?”

That voice ringing with such authority inside his mind opened a well of thougand and emotions. Forgotten memories poured through him in a flood. He remembered. Life after life, he had found Duo and each time Duo had killed him before the final release was attained. He felt again each tear in his flesh from Duo’s teeth and claws, the times he had been tortured, screaming and pleading for death before he was finally allowed to die. Each blow left an invisible bruise on his skin and he flinched back in hatred and terror from the god who had inflicted it all.

Duo flinched at the hatred and fear on that delicate face. He didn’t feel that way anymore. He didn’t!

“Remember…” That voice. Newer memories pushed back the old. Duo blowing bubbles onto his chin, Duo watching him eat and gently tucking him into bed, catching him before he could fall. Duo loving him.

When sloe dark eyes rose to meet distressed violet they were once again calm, though this time they were armed with new confidence. Oh yes. He did remember. But he wasn’t those people, he was Chang Wufei of the dragon clan, and he loved the God of Death.

“I choose…” five gods held their breath. “I choose life.”

“NO!!” Quatre screamed. “He will kill you! Don’t you understand that?”

Wufei smiled tenderly. “I do understand. But I will not condemn him to that prison again. He will be set free.”

“He will NOT!!!” The little blond screamed again and lunged at Wufei. Duo stepped protectively in front of the man that he had not yet admitted his love to, and Trowa gently, but firmly, held his lover in check.

“The choice has been made.” He intoned. “Who will stand with me to bear witness?”

“I will.” Zechs and Heero answered.

“Quatre?” Trowa prompted.

“I will.” He conceded sullenly.

“Then let it begin.”

Duo scooped Wufei into his arms. The little clearing that they had been standing in had suddenly transformed with that last admission. He could feel the combined powers of the gods all around him though he could no longer see anyone but Duo. Light warred with shadow, and a soft wind stirred his hair while a nameless warmth comforted him. The place itself had been transformed into something that was both nothing and everything.

Duo laid him out on a bed that wasn’t there but felt like silk against his skin.

*Skin? What happened to my clothes?*

When he felt Duo’s fingers, then his lips graze over his taut nipples, he decided that his lack of clothing was not important enough to distract him from what was happening. He whimpered low in his throat and buried his hands in his lover’s unbound hair.

Strong, smooth hands grazed over Wufei’s feverish skin, and hot lips followed in their wake, burning him like fire. He moaned under each caress that played over him like he was a fine instrument.

“Yes—“ Duo hissed. “Let me hear your pleasure.”

Soft hands tentatively reached out to glide over Duo. Wufei thought that he felt better than anything he’d ever felt before. Blood rushed under his skin, flushing it lightly.

When Duo kissed a line down Wufei’s flat stomach and the boy writhed. Sharp teeth scraped over a hip and the necromancer’s body arched taut. When that talented mouth engulfed his straining erection without warning Wufei screamed incoherently and Duo had to take a firm grip on the wriggling hips to hold him still.

Wufei’s body had been reduced to a writhing, moaning mass of pure sensation. He could do nothing more than respond as each touch liftem tom to a higher plateau of ecstasy.

When Duo’s long fingers brushed over his lips he sucked them in avidly. Duo groaned and promised himself that he would further sample that mouth later. He reluctantly pulled them from Wufei’s constricting lips.

“Are you sure you want this?” Duo asked again.

“Yes. Please Duo. Onegai... take m—aaaahhh!” His sentence was cut off and he moaned loudly when he felt the fingers that had so recently been in his mouth thrust deep into him.

“Is this what you wanted?” Duo asked, pushing them in and out of the tight ring, carefully stretching the boy even as he pleasured him.

“Hai- more… onegai, motto…” he drifted off into unintelligible pleas in Japanese.

“Yes Wufei. I will give you more. Tonight I will give you everything that you want. Keep on love. Let me hear you.”

Spreading his lover wide beneath him Duo carefully positioned himself at Wufei’s tight entrance. Slowly, inexorably he pushed forward.

It was like nothing he had ever felt before. Wufei was tight, hot velvet and gripped him like a vice. Duo’s eyes rolled back in his head and he almost lost it right then. He grit his teeth and started to thrust.

The only sound in that place was the hard slap of flesh meeting flesh and Wufei’s breathy moans augmented by the whispering encouragement from Shinigami. It didn’t take long for those moans to turn into full-fledged screams and Duo began to slam into the willing body under his with full force.

The combined stimulus of Wufei’s screaming and the tightness surrounding him ensured that Duo wouldn’t last long. Wanting to assure that his new lover came with him lid lid a hand between their surging bodies and wrapped it around Wufei’s throbbing member.

The black haired boy cried out again and arched his hips higher. Duo’s name was on his lips and in his heart when he released his seed in long ropes onto both his and Duo’s chests.

Duo thrust again and felt the sheath around him tighten almost painfully. Unable to hold himself back any longer Shinigami loosed a primal howl and buried himself as deep as he could go, coating Wufei’s inner walls with his essence. On instinct he buried his teeth into Wufei’s throat and drank.

When the fog lifted from his brain he found himself still inside Wufei’s swiftly cooling body. “Wufei?” He whispered.

He shook the boy. He knew he was dead. “NOOOOO--!” He gathered the silent form in his arms and began to rock back and forth. “You can’t die. You can’t. I love you Wufei. Don’t leave me! Don’t leave me…”

*****

Wufei floated in something that was neither darkness nor light. Something that wasn’t a voice shattered the not-silence around him. “Do you still choose life Wufei?”

“I do.”

“Then wake to your new form. I name thee, the God of Night!”

The substance around him fractured like light through a crystal’s facets and he was thrown back into his body. It felt strange, like it wasn’t quite his anymore.

Duo lifted tear incrusted lashes when he felt that still chest once again draw breath. Midnight dark crescents lifted from pale cheeks to reveal depthless black eyes.

“Wu-Wufei?”

The new god nodded and found himself with his arms full of a now laughing Shinigami. Kisses rained over him and he could barely make out halting words through the other god’s relieved laughter. “I thought you were dead! I thought I’d lost you. I love you, I love you, I love you…”

“Duo?”

Shinigami pulled back from him. “H-hai?”

“I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”

“Not ever?”

“Never.”

*****

Two gods lay in bed, basking in the aftermath of their shared love.

“I told you he’d changed.”

“I know Trowa. It’s just that—“

“People change love. And sometimes so do Gods.”

“Do you think he knows what we did yet?”

“No. But he will soon.”
