Qu
Quatre,
I know I shouldn\'t be writing in here since these are your private thoughts, but I\'d like to assure you that I didn\'t read anything. I can wait until you\'re ready to share for that, but I did want to leave you with something to smile about tomorrow. It\'s going to be a long, hard day, but I wanted you to know that I\'m going to be there the entire time.
Tonight you gave me quite a scare. It wasn\'t only the hallucinations and the near-psychotic episode; that\'s the Demerol. I knew it wasn\'t you screaming...I could see it in those beautiful large eyes as I tried to calm you down, but screaming about the blood...
I know you saw things tonight that will give you nightmares for a while. They\'ve already been starting during those hour-long naps the nurses have allowed you. You look positively adorably cranky when they wake you up. Cranky and confused, as if you\'ve been pulled from somewhere else. From the look on your face, I know it\'s somewhere you don\'t want to be, and I would rather wake you from those bouts of sleep then allow you to wade though the mess alone, but you need sleep. I understand that and have to allow all all the precious hours you need. A concussion isn\'t something you can bounce back from, but you\'ll be better long before Duo is.
Duo...I wouldn\'t trade places with Heero for anything in the world. I\'m sure you saw how bad he looked, even through the hallucinations. He isn\'t doing well and as much as I hate to see my best friend like that, I can\'t bring myself to leave you. I\'m afraid that if I walk away you might not wake up the next time. I need to see you blink your eyes awake long enough to convince whatever nurse it is that you’re conscious before I make you fall asleep again. I\'m not sure if you\'ll remember in the morning, but there were a few times you fought me about more sleep.
Heero understands that I need to be here. He\'d esideside Duo if they\'d let him, but Duo\'s in ICU and Heero\'s stuck in the waiting room with Wufei and Relena. I don\'t think he even knows who\'s there really. Just that someone\'s stoking his back and telling him softly that everything\'s going to be okay. I don\'t know if he believes that. He fucked up bad this time, but that\'s his story to tell, and be sure you make him tell you.
Now, youryour sanity\'s sake I’ll answer all your morning questions, and yes I do know you that well. I did get ahold of Relena, and she made it here shortly after you were moved to your room. You were asleep, but she wanted to check on you herself. I\'ll admit you were right about Relena; she isn\'t as bad as she first seemed. Actually, she\'s very graceful under pressure.
I\'m not sure if you remember this, but shortly after Duo\'s doctor came and spoke with us, you scared the shit out of him too, Quatre, so it\'s not just me. Sally showed up and reprimanded the ER doctors for giving you Demerol, although there wasn\'t many painkillers you can administer with a concussion. She had called Wufei and actually brought him along with her. He was a blessed amount of sanity in the whole whirlwind ofivitivity. There must have been someg ing in his past that taught him to deal with worry, because he knew just what to do with Heero. I had to say I was at a loss. My parents died quickly and there wasn\'t a waiting period, so I had no idea what to say to my best friend who was hurting so bad I felt it.
Now, before you jump to conclusions, no Duo isn\'t dying, from what they can tell. He isn\'t awake yet, but he\'s stable. The list of injuries is long, but nothing that won\'t heal. The most dangerous of them was the ruptured appendix. They removed that before it caused too many complications. That was the only hurt organ, save his slightly swollen brain, but you always said he had a big head...that was meant to make you laugh, so stop worrying. Your concussion was worse than his. He did get a few cracked ribs. His right shoulder\'s dislocated and the wrist is broken, right tibia\'s cracked, left ankle broken, there was some swelling around the eyes, and his jaw is broken in three places. All in all, he\'s not in that bad of shape. The pain is what\'s sent him into unconsciousness. It\'s just too much for the body to deal with at once, but they still want to keep him in ICU until they\'re sure no more internal injuries will appear. Forty-eight hours at the most, unless he wakes up before then.
Howard\'s been called. I\'m not sure who did it, but I\'m assured that he\'s been told and is worried. I talked to your father also, although we\'re not going to see him for a few days. He said something about offering Duo\'s father a ride from Florida.
Hilde\'s on her way up from Atlanta. She booked the first flight she could and will be here tomorrow afternoon. I have a feeling that she\'s going to fight until Heero\'s allowed to see Duo. I\'ll be happy if she does.
I don\'t know if I\'ve told you this before, but Heero doesn\'t have any family left. He lost his parents when he was young. Around eight. Cathy and I are the closest thing to a family that he has.
I finally got ahold of her an hour ago. She should be here by now, maybe and coddling Heero in that sisterly way. She\'s good at it. Don\'t worry, I won\'t let her in here to coddle you...yet. You\'ll need a few hours of sleep before you\'ll be up to it.
As for sleep: yes I\'ll get some, when the nurses stop coming for their hourly visits. That\'s why I wrote all this down; in case you woke up before I did. It was something to make you smile and stop worrying, which we both know you were.
You amaze me more days than not, Quatre. Taking on six men larger than you and only ending up with three stitches and a concussion, although your briefcase is a lost cause. We\'ll have to get you a new one on Sunday, after we visit the hospital, of course. I\'m still in awe, though. We saw a few of the men as the police were escorting them out. They didn\'t look good. They\'d look even worse if I hadn\'t held Heerck. ck. He would have killed them, and I don\'t mean that figuratively. And somehow you still managed to keep this damn diary intact. I think this thing has the devil\'s own luck. It\'s the only explanation.
If you managed to read all of this without me waking up, then I was more tired than I thought, so good morning and you\'ll get your kiss when I\'m awake.
