~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It has been two weeks now, and Duo has been recovering more and more with each passing day knowing that Heero was always by his side to help him.
Time flew by for the two boys where were catching up on what they had missed. Heero sat at the hard plastic hospital chair looking at Duo who was sound asleep. Tomorrow was the day that Duo was supposed to be getting out of the hospital and back into school. He was so excited with the outcome of everything that has happened to him so far. There wasn’t any regret at all.
Heero’s parents on the other hand were getting the silent treatment from Heero for some time until one day they couldn’t take it anymore. Their one and only son can’t ignore them forever, and Heero’s parents finally realized how much pain and agony Heero has gone through all those years, blaming himself.
**Flashback**
“Heero please come in and sit down, we need to talk” Heero’s father said softly.
“I thought I made it clear that we don’t have anything to talk about since you are unwilling to hear how selfish you are in your own heart” Heero said monotony to his father.
“Heero! That is no way to talk to your father like that” Heero mother said in shock.
“You mean stepfather, mother” Heero grounded out.
“Heero! Come here right now and sit! We have a lot of things to discuss about” Heero’s father said.
If Heero could, he would roll his eyes at his fathers tone of words, but he walked over and sat down at the chair furthest away from his parents, as if they had a plague he didn’t want to catch.
His parents saw this an their facial features looked saddened by the mistrust.
“Your mother and I had a long discussion about this whole situation and I realized how wrong we were to separate you two, we don’t want this to go on any longer. Your mother and I want us to be a happy family again…can’t you do this little bit for us?” Heero’s father pleaded.
“Only in one condition” Heero said.
“State it and we shall talk about it” His mother pleaded.
“I want Duo to live with us, to become part of my family, a memory that has been chained all these years can finally be released and embraced” Heero said seriously.
Heero’s father looked flabbergasted. “But, there is no way we can do that! What about the Maxwell’s…he is part of their experiment as w-“ Heero’s father never finished.
“Don’t you ever speak of Duo like his is an experiment, and object that can be played with and fiddled with! If you can’t do that little part for my sake, for my hearts sake, then there is nothing to be discussed about. I think this talk has come to an end, good night mother, father,” Heero said as he stood up and left the living room.
**End Flashback**
Heero couldn’t help but smile a bit for his brave-ness, but for Duo, he would have done anything for him. It wasn’t until this morning he got an answer form his parents, that Duo could stay with them, with Heero. They couldn’t do anything to stop Heero’s decision anyway. They knew they were wrong in what they did, and so they must face the consequences for their selfish actions.
“Ne Duo, you will be happy at our home…I promise you that no one will ever hurt you again…” Heero said softly not wanting to wake up the sleeping boy.
~The next morning~
“Hey Heero, quit moving around so much…you seem more excited them me, and I am the one that is moving in with you!” Duo said with a hint of humor.
“Everything has to be perfect Duo…you don’t understand…it has been so long and…its just that I missed you so much, for so long…” Heero said, slowing down on his pace to sit down on the bed beside Duo before he falls over.
“Everything is going to be fine Heero…just like the old days ne?” Duo said not so sure about it himself.
Heero looked up when Duo said those words. “Hai, just like the old days,” Heero said grasping onto Duo’s smaller hand. ‘I will show you the world that you opened up to me so long ago Duo’ Heero’s mind echoed.
With a huge smile, Heero grabbed a hold of Duo’s duffel bag and exited the hospital, still clutching onto Duo’s hand. Never again did Heero want to see the color white or smell the sterile room ever again…not when the chances are that it could be Duo’s life on the line.
Heero was brining Duo home at last, their home that they could have lived together all those years if it wasn’t for the attempt.
The move went extremely smoothly. Duo got to see his “parent” who took care of him all these years and surprisingly Duo didn’t feel any hatred towards them.
Then came the hard part where Duo had to face Heero’s parents. Duo still smiling extended his hand out to Mr. Kiato, “Hello Mr. Kiato. It is a pleasure to finally meet you. I hope that you are not angry with me for intruding into your home…” Duo trailed off when he saw tears forming at the corner of Mr. Kiato’s eyes.
Mr. Kiato didn’t shake Duo’s hand; instead he gave Duo an embrace.
“Oh how you have grown Duo. After all these year…I have taken your childhood away…and yet you have not hatred…” Heero’s dad choked out.
Duo gave Heero a worried look. This wasn’t the impression he wanted to get from Mr. Kiato at all, but still Duo welcomed the embrace and gave one back to the crying man.
“Mr. Kia-“
“Call me dad, there isn’t any reason to be distant. Ever since we adopted you…you were always considered my son no matter what…it just took a whole couple of years as well as Heero’s yelling, in order for me to realize how much pain I have caused. How much there was an emptiness in my heart that I have been denying for so long…will you ever forgive an old man for his foolishness?” Mr. Kiato said.
“It’s the past. You wanted to protect me. I understood that. Right now being by Heero’s side is all I ever wanted right now, to regain back my childhood friend and past is all I ever wanted…father” Duo said softly.
Mr. Kiato gave a warm smile. “Please” Mr. Kiato gestured towards the doorway, “welcome home…son…”
~Two Weeks Later~
“Come on Duo! If you don’t hurry we will be late for school again!” Heero said to Duo who was buried deep inside the covers. The only trace of the boy was this long mane of chestnut hair fanned out.
Heero gave a small smirk, no one has ever seen Duo with his hair down except for him, and he intended to keep it that way.
“Get out of bed NOW baka!” Heero said, pretending to be mad.
“Or what?” came a reply.
“Oh so you want to play like that huh?” Heero said, without any warning, Heero pounced on the pile of blankets, seeking out the un-braided boy and tickling Duo till the boy was out of breath and crying mercy.
“I’m up! I’m up! Heero, you got to find a better way to wake someone up!” Duo said with a smile.
“What? I like this way, I get to hold you in my arms and make sure that the year long dreams I had weren’t just dreams anymore. That you are actually here with me” Heero said.
Duo raised an eyebrow when he saw the softness in Heero’s tone.
“Oh all right…” Duo gave in, “better get ready before I get another tickle attack!” Duo said climbing out of bed. Stopping short and gave Heero a peck on the cheek. “Got you back for that tickle!” Duo said and ran out of the room while Heero sat in the pile of Duo’s blankets, his hand automatically going to his cheek where Duo had kissed him.
Life was definitely going to be more interesting with Duo by his side now…Heero can sense it.
Heero got up out of the pile of rumpled blankets and exited Duo’s room; He couldn't help but smile when he heard Duo singing in the bathroom. Heero walked slowly to his own room, which wasn’t far from Duo’s and closed the door.
Heero faced his bedpost, spotting the huge shell that hung from the wooden frame. With a couple of strides, Heero was in front of the shell in no time.
“I think its time to put you…away,” Heero said to himself. He didn’t have to dream anymore, he didn’t have to pretend. Damion has come back to him.
