Chapter 7

Rei lay on his side with his back to the door waiting for Kai to return. Once he heard the door open, he pretended to be asleep. He felt the blankets move and then the mattress dip as Kai settled beside him.

“You still awake?” The phoenix asked, kissing and nibbling on the neko-jin’s neck.

“Stop it,” the cat-boy responded, shrugging the taller male off him.

He thought he had succeeded until he felt a hand shift his t-shirt to expose his shoulder.

“I mean it!” Rei said, this time physically pushing the other away. He had to bite down on his lip when he felt his hand contact bare chest. Oh Gods, please tell me he’s not naked!

The third attempt made the Chinese actually get out of bed. “I’m serious Kai!” he said adjusting his shirt.

“What’s the problem?” Kai asked sitting up to reveal his bare chest.

Rei let out a sigh of relief when he saw the Russian was at least wearing a pair of black boxers.

“I already told you, I’m not ready!”

“We’ve been waiting for five years, how can you not be ready!?”

“Because I’m afraid that you’ll leave me once you’ve gotten me in bed!” The tiger surprised himself as he answered.

“Why do you say that?” The Russian asked quietly, afraid of the answer he would get.

“I’ve heard of your reputation Kai. I think we all have, but we’re all too polite to say anything to you. I’ve also heard fans bragging to each other about having slept with you.”

Kai sighed and looked down at the bed, “I hoped you hadn’t heard about that.”

“Yeah, well I did,” the neko-jin replied, playing with the end of his braid nervously.

“I admit I’ve slept around…a lot. Guy, girls, it didn’t matter, none of them went beyond a one-night stand. But that was because I had found a person that I thought I couldn’t have. I tried to move on, find someone else, but no matter how hard I tried, no one could stand up to that one person.”

“Do I?” Rei asked quietly, his turn to be afraid of the answer.

“You are that one person,” the phoenix replied, looking into the smaller male’s eyes, “Rei, you’re the only person that I’ve ever wanted to have any form of relationship with. I use to hate myself for it, seeing my feelings for you as a weakness. No matter how hard I tried to fight it, I couldn’t. I care about you Rei. You bring out a side of me I thought the Abby had killed long ago, that I thought would never exist again.”

By the end of this speech, Rei’s eyes were brimming with tears. He walked over to the bed and cuddled with Kai. The Russian laid down, the smaller form still in his arms, and placed the covers over both of them. He wiped away the unshed tears from the cat-boy’s jewel-like golden eyes then kissed him gently.

The former captain scoffed, moving away from the laughing neko-jin.

Over the next couple of days Kai tried to get Rei to change his mind, to no avail. By the third day, the Russian couldn’t even look at the midnight-haired blader without getting hard.

That night the duel-haired blader sat on the bed with his back against the headboard and his arms crossed over his chest, waiting for his companion.

The neko-jin smirked and quirked an eyebrow, “you packed lube?”

The former captain shrugged, “don’t leave home without it.”

Rei rolled his eyes at the attempted joke.

“Always come prepared?” The duel-haired blader tried again.

The Chinese snorted, “I find it hard to believe that you were a boy scout. Now get your delicious ass back over here and fuck me, Hiwatari.”

“You’ve got quite the mouth when you’re horny,” the larger teen replied as he climbed back on the bed.

“Only for you,” the cat-boy said before pulling Kai down and kissing him.
