Chapter Six: Press Conference Fun

“Oh, come on!” Tyson growled as he clenched his fist around his beyblade. He looked impatiently at the clock as it slowly ticked by. “Why the hell is this taking so long? Aren’t we done yet?”

Overhearing this, Tala nudged Max who was sitting beside him. “What the hell’s up with Tyson? Why’s he twitching like a cat?”

Max looked over Mr. Dickenson to look at Tyson who was whispering something to Rei then shrugged his shoulders. “He’s been like this since we left Kai’s room.”

“Since when does he get upset that Kai can’t make it to a press conference?” Tala frowned.

“Maybe it’s because he’s hungry,” Bryan sneered as he looked at Tyson. “I know the little boy looks ready to eat a horse.”

Max looked over to see Daichi staring hungrily at some cameraman’s dinner. “Could be, I know we didn’t get much to eat before.”

“So what did the doctor say about Kai?” Tala asked as he looked at Max. He felt that he was out of the loop and didn’t like it. It seemed that the former Blade breakers knew that Kai was sick before him. “Can he play the day after tomorrow? We’re up against Garland and Crusher.”

Max shrugged. “He should be fine. The doc said that he just needed some good night’s rest.”

“What’s a matter Tala, worried about going at it without your boy?” Rick taunted. He gave the red-head a look. “Afraid that you won’t have Kai to bail you out?”

Tala glared at him. “I don’t need Kai to bail me out unlike you and Max. But I do want to know- did you lock Kai’s room?”

“Mariah did and both doors,” Max chuckled as he looked at Tala. “Can’t have what happened in Europe repeated.”

When Rick looked at Max questioningly, Max supplied the answer. “When we were first touring, we used to have a bunch of guys and girls after us. Some were more aggressive than others, if you know what I mean. Anyway, there were several incidents of what happened to the more aggressive when they tried to sneak into Kai’s quarters. One girl was so into him that she had snuck into his room and was waiting for him in the middle of his bed. She was, needless to say, wearing only her birthday suit.”

Impatience lined Rick’s face as he snorted. “Like that hasn’t happened to any of us. So what makes Europe so special?”

“It really wasn’t anything special,” Max said as he blushed, his fair skin making him look like a well baked lobster. He winced at Rick’s snort and Tala’s chuckle. “Honest. And maybe a few guys that were trying to ambush Kai.”

“That’s an image that I really didn’t need Max,” Rick groused as he glared at the younger blader.

“And what about the Lyra incident?” Tala asked as he looked at Max.

“Who’s Lyra?” Rick pounced as he looked at Tala then at Max.

“She was nobody,” Max said hastily. “Just was just some girl that was chasing Kai all around Europe wherever he was blading. It was nothing.”

“And I bet that you just learned how to beyblade yesterday,” Rick scoffed. “Tell all, tell all. What was so special about Lyra?”

“Well, it was special because of what Kai did to her. When she was finally able to break into his room, he threw her out of his room and bed with her clothes after her,” Tala finished the story. His mouth quirked up in a derisive smile as he looked at Rick and added, “And she was in the near the end of- ah- self-servicing herself with one of his scarves when he walked into his room.”

“Oh, yeah, I remember that now,” Bryan interrupted as he smiled salaciously. “Wasn’t she the one that the tabloids nearly caught? Weren’t you the one that comforted her after that?”

Tala looked at his nails. “She was truly distraught over the whole incident. I hear she was well comforted by Enrique of the Majestics as well.”

Rick shook his head. “Kai should have just taken what the chick offered instead of throwing her out of his room. Would have loosened that stick up his ass.”

“Kai’s not like that!” Max said as he looked at Rick. “He wouldn’t take advantage of some girl even one who’s just nuts about him.”

“I said it once, I’ll say it again: Kai needs to be laid,” Tala sighed as he crossed his arms. “That or be given a nice head once in a while. The Iceman doesn’t know what he’s missing.”

“Oh, yeah that’ll happen real soon,” Bryan snorted as he looked at Tala sideways. “Kai getting a piece of ass?”

Rick shrugged as he leaned back into his seat. “Stranger things have happened.”

“Tyson could you please just calm down?” Rei hissed as he glanced at his friend. “It’ll be all over soon.”

“It’s been over an hour already. Why the hell is this press conference taking so long?” Tyson hissed back. “I’ve got to get back to Kai.”

Lee looked at Tyson in surprise. “Why? Isn’t he with Hilary? He’s safe with her.”

“That’s just it, you never know with Kai,” Tyson said as he looked at the clock. “She might not be safe with him. Remember Europe, Rei?”

“Yeah, but it’s not as if he doesn’t know her,” Rei replied.

“What happened in Europe?” Daichi demanded as he looked at Tyson and Rei curiously.

Tyson looked at Mr. Dickenson as he answered, “Some stalker girl who wanted to be playing with Kai’s-mfph!”

“Blades,” Rei inserted quickly as he covered Tyson’s mouth. “It’s really nothing that you should know about, Daichi! Right, Tyson?”

“Right!” Tyson yelped as Rei kicked him under the table. “Right, you have to be careful because the girl snuck into his room and was trying to steal his beyblades!”

“Oh, okay,” Daichi said confused. He put his hand over his stomach. “I’m so starving! Will it be over soon?”

“I hope it’ll be over soon,” Tyson muttered as he looked at the clock again. “This is taking way too long.”

“I still don’t get why you’re anxious,” Rei said as he shook his head. “Kai won’t do anything to Hilary, Tyson.”

“Yeah, he’d better not,” Tyson muttered again. He looked at Rei shrewdly then lowered his voice as he brought his head closer to Rei’s. “Hey, Rei, you ever get the feeling that there’s something going on that you don’t know about?”

“Isn’t there always?” Rei chuckled. “You’ll have to be more specific than that, Tyson.”

“Okay. How about like there’s something in your gut, and you know that if you don’t wake up, you’ll lose something real special to you, but you don’t know what it is,” Tyson said after a moment’s thought. He looked at his blade, Dragoon. “I know there’s something going on with Hilary but I can’t put my finger on it. I mean, she’s the usual nag about practice and all that, but it’s like, she’s different.”

“How is she different?” Rei asked as he cocked an eyebrow.

“She’s more into her school work and talking about the future,” Daichi said as he looked at Rei. “Like her looking at different colleges and stuff like that.”

“When the hell did you get into this conversation?” Tyson yelped as he stared at his partner.

“I need a distraction or else I’ll be eating this table,” Daichi glared at him. He looked at Rei earnestly. “Plus, she’s now always agitated when everyone’s around.”

“Maybe she’s getting tired of the Beyblade scene,” Lee suggested.

Rei nodded. “That could be it. I mean, all she does is be an assistant trainer and- uh, personal assistant to your grandfather and Hiro.”

Lee snorted at Rei’s tact. He glanced at Rei. “You mean she’s really known as the main baby sitter for Tyson and Daichi-”

“She’s not my baby sitter!” Tyson and Daichi yelped as they attacked Lee and Rei.

“You take that back!” Daichi yelled as he tackled Rei.

Startled, Rei grabbed Daichi’s hands as soon as they were on him. “What the hell! Daichi!”

“That was so untrue,” Tyson hollered as he grabbed Lee’s shirt. “Take that back or else I’ll clobber you!”

“You and what army?” Lee challenged as he grabbed Tyson’s shirt.

“What the hell is going on?” Tala demanded as he looked past Mr. Dickenson to see Daichi tackle Rei and Tyson try to manhandle Lee. He ignored the flashes of light coming from the photographers. “What’s Tyson doing?”

“Tyson’s going nuts,” Max said as he shot up off his seat to try and stop the fight. “We’ve gotta stop them!”

“Oh, yeah, baby! A brawl,” Rick said with a big grin as he followed Max. “Wanna lay odds on the teams?”

“Why the hell not?” Tala shrugged as he looked at Rick.

“Five to one that Shorty won’t be slapped by Rei,” Bryan said he looked at Daichi try to lay a fist on Rei. “He’s too noble to try and stamp on the Short Fry. And three to one that Tyson manages to get a shot in on Lee.”

“Sounds good to me,” Rick said as he looked at Bryan.

“Hey Rick! Come and help me!” Max hollered as he tried to pull Tyson away from Lee, but failing miserably. “Tala! Get over here!”

“Ouch!” Rick winced as he saw Max’s head snap back as Tyson’s punch missed Lee’s face. “Better go bail the boy out.”

“Put me down as well,” Tala said as he looked at what was becoming a free for all. He winced as he saw Rick get kicked in the back of his head by Daichi. “Guess there’s a new fighter in the midst. And to think, I thought this would be boring.”
