"Vegeta!" Goku yelled as his friend flopped onto the bed. His face was pale and his eyes dazed. "Vegeta answer me!" Panic flooded through Goku as Vegeta's eyes closed shut, still no answer from him. Goku felt so stupid! Why did he let him drink that stupid beer! it could have been poisoned or drugged. Its the only thing that could have done this to him.
Goku laid his hand on Vegeta's cheek. He had to be OK. He had to! Goku then checked hi pulse. A sigh of relief escaped his lips when he realized that he Vegeta's palse was slow, but he was alive. Goku didn't think he could make it out of this place if Vegeta had died.
Goku held Vegeta's hand for a second. He didn't want his dear friend to get hurt in any way. Then he realized that he was alone. Vegeta had been his source of safety, and now Goku had nothing. Fear rippled through him. the thought of this place brought pure terror to every part of him.
Goku then realized he was gripping Vegeta's hand. He let go. He knew if Vegeta had awoken to that, the ego ridden prince would freak out. Then Goku realized how mad he would be if he found out Goku had sat here the whole time. Goku closed his eyes. He would search for answers while Vegeta was asleep, because he knew Vegeta would want that.
He stood up and looked around the small bedroom. There was a small nightstand next to the bed. Goku looked closer. There was a note and three keys on a chain laying on the old wood. It seemed as if dust had been wiped from the top. Goku gulped. It couldn't be a good sign.
Goku grabbed the stuff off of the top. The keys had words in bedded on the larger part of the key. The smallest of the keys was silver but had no shine to it anymore. It had the words, 'Caretaker,' on it. Then there was a medium sized key. It was also a silver color, it had the current rooms numbers engraved on it. The last key was long and rusted. Goku could only make out the word, 'pool' at the top. that would explain the rust, thought Goku as he shoved them into his jean pocket.
Goku turned and headed for the door. He walked across the carpet and down the small hall. Then as he reached the living room, he looked around it again, this time without the event Vegeta had caused. But nothing peaked his interest. He grabbed the door handle tight in his hands and looked back one last time towards the bedroom.
Goku really had hoped Vegeta had ran back up to him. How he wished he hadn't been so self centered. But Goku didn't blame him. Growing up the way he did would make anyone cold and grumpy. Then he remembered the radio. He quickly grabbed it and shoved it into his other pocket. Then Goku walked out the door and shut it behind him.
Before Goku could take a step, he noticed a map on the floor. It wasn't crumbled or folded, but laid out flat on the floor. Creases were in it as if it had once been folded into small squares.Picking it up, Goku saw lime green pen marks on the map.
The previous person had circled the pool area. they also circled the room Vegeta was in and wrote 'Safe.' Goku looked up. He swore he heard the laughs of a child. But as he glanced up and down the hall, he saw nothing. Goku decided it was his nerves. He turned around and locked the door. then put the key back into his pocket with the others.
Goku headed down the hall. The door to the pool area seemed like a logical place to go first. 1. He had a key for something there and 2, The person had circled it on the map, and it was hard not to noticed the bright ink.
Goku examined the map at the thought of the ink. He knew that the ink would have faded more, but instead it was bright against the dull, old map. This map had been used recently, but how did it find its way to the door?
Shrugging it off, Goku folded the map up and placed it in his pocket. He had reached the door that lead to the stairs. which altogether lead to the other floors. He needed to get to the pool area, which the door was located on the first floor. Goku decided this was a good place to try and head down.
Reaching out he grabbed the doors knob, which it opened smoothly. Pushing the door open, he stepped in. The stairs were old and rusty. They creaked as Goku headed downstairs. Everything seemed to make his steps louder. It made his heart race. Wouldn't this alert monsters?
Finally Goku reached the first floor. It smelt stale. He looked down the hall, nothing. But before he could turn to check the other side, the radio started to create static. Goku could hear footsteps behind him. The radio got louder and louder. Goku was frozen in the spot. Then he ran. He saw the door which was labeled, 'Courtyard,' but as he reached out to open it, It was locked shut.
A loud screech sounded behind Goku. He began to panic. He turned and faced the monster. It was the same kind he had seen on the street. The one Vegeta had beat down with the wooden plank. The wooden Plank! Goku forgot it back at the apartment!
Goku suddenly noticed another door. The words were scratched off and only a deep wood door remained. Goku suddenly had an impulse and pulled the key from his pocket. He pushed the door hard as the small click from it unlocking filled the air. He ran inside and slammed it shut, just barely avoiding a hard blow from the monster.
Goku tried to calm his heart as he leaned against the door. It had been a close call. It was so dark in the room. Goku couldn't see anything. He felt the wall for a switch. He had finally found it and flipped on the light. But what he saw was not what he expected.
Up against the wall was deep scratches that leaked blood. The whole place wreached of rotten flesh. Blood was everywhere. and when Goku finally got the guts to examine the deep marks, he realized that they seemed of a large blade. Goku shuddered at the thought of whatever made these marks.
Then Goku noticed notes scattered all over a desk. Goku walked over and read some. Two caught his interest. The first one read
' Today I have asked The owner of the apartment next to our own to get the key the Courtyard. They are always talking of their special key guy. I'm supposed to go pick it up from the office this afternoon. which shouldn't be a problem. '
Goku looked at the next one. It was hard to read in places due to deep stains of blood.
'Today a young woman named ****** came in with a small infant. The woman claimed she was her nice and had recently decided to take care of him. Later in the evening on the date of ****, a woman came in with her young boy. They said they had been tourist, which was very common. They stated they were from ********** But I've never heard of that place. Anyways that stuffs none of my business. She wrote her name down as ******* and said her son's was ********** but I doubt those are real names. Never heard them in my life! Anyways I should get going to pick up the Courtyard's key.'
Goku put the notes in his pocket with his notebook. HE felt they may be useful eventually. They were both signed, 'Caretaker.' Goku looked at the keys in his pocket. Which to no surprise he had been in the Caretaker's room. Goku noticed another door on the other side of the room.
He smiled. Good, he thought, now I don't have to face that monster. He opened it up. It lead out into the same hallway. So Goku glanced up and down the hall. Luckily there was no sign of the monster what so ever. So he hurry and ran down to the door that lead to the stairs. Then he headed back up to the floor were Vegeta was.
As Goku opened the door to the hallway, he took a deep breath. He wanted to check on Vegeta. How he hoped he was awake. Then he headed down towards the door. He pulled out the key to unlock the door. But then suddenly there was a loud crash. Goku froze. What if something got Vegeta, He thought as he rammed the door open.
