A/N: Again, sorry for the lateness. >< Glad you all liked the last chapter. :)
Instead of waking in the cold, like he was expecting, Kakarot woke in a warm bed. He stirred and groggily opened his eyes to an odd sight. Vegeta was sitting in a chair and, very intently, watching him sleep. He looked at the man in confusion. “Is something wrong?”
Vegeta’s stern features softened. “Just making sure you’re still breathing. How are you feeling? Are you hungry? Do you need more rest?”
Kakarot yawned and stretched while still lying underneath the covers. His stomach growled noisily in answer to one of the questions. However, Kakarot ignored it for now and thought about the last question. “What time is it?”
Vegeta’s eyes became half-lidded at the sight of the other still trying to wake. “Mid-day.” He answered simply and quickly moved on to His other questions. “Are you feeling any pain? Do you need anything?” He kept asking in slight worry.
Kakarot managed to sit up and keep his eyes open to stare at the other while vaguely noting that he still had his clothes on from the day before. “No and food would be nice.” He rubbed his eyes as Vegeta stood.
“Alright. I’ll be right back. Don’t leave the room. You may continue to rest if you wish.” With that Vegeta left the room and closed the door.
Kakarot watched Him leave with a worried expression, then decided to take the offer and lied back down. Why is Vegeta acting so different? Is it because of what happened yesterday? His tired expression became that of understanding as he pulled the covers over his head. How could he be so careless? Now he’s making Vegeta worry. Without realizing it, Kakarot’s self-hating thoughts became fuzzy as he drifted to sleep again. When he woke, he smelled the most terrific smell in the world and bolted up in his bed. “Food!” He clumsily got out of bed and headed for the table where the food was and dived into it.
Vegeta stood from His chair at the other’s movements and smiled at his reaction for the food. He sat back down and watched the other in content, who ate his food noisily. When Kakarot finished, he patted his stomach and excitedly expressed his state of being. “Wow! I can’t remember the last time I was this full!” Vegeta frowned at the response while Kakarot looked His way. When he saw the look on the other’s face, it took him a moment to figure out what was wrong; then he rubbed the back of his head in a nervous gesture. “Oh, but it was as delicious as the other meals I’ve had.” He smiled awkwardly to back up his words, but it didn’t seem to work as well.
Vegeta stood and walked over to him. He picked up a clothed napkin that was lying on the table and wiped away the food on the boy’s face. “Remember, you can tell me when you’re hungry, tired, hot, or cold. Since I don’t feel or crave any of them, it would be wise to speak up.” When He finished, He gently lifted the other’s chin to look him in the eyes. “Your needs come first, understand?” Kakarot blushed lightly then nodded. Vegeta smiled softly and stood straight. “Do you need anything else?” Kakarot took the question into consideration for a moment before shaking his head. “Good.” Vegeta turned towards His belongings. “Then we should get a move on. Our next destination isn’t far today, so we should make it before nightfall. However, our next stop will be yours. Mine is a bit further.”
Kakarot stood in surprise. “Wait, what do You mean by that?”
Vegeta turned towards him again and narrowed His eyes. “I told you before. You will be staying in a nearby village that will be safe for you and away from the war while I take care of business there.”
Kakarot’s heart fluttered in fear at the man’s words, then went to Him and grabbed His arm to keep Him from walking away from him; a similar situation they had a few village’s back. “No! You’re not leaving me there by myself! I’m coming with You!”
Vegeta stiffened at the other’s words, not expecting the younger’s reaction. “What?” He was at a loss for words before recovering. “You’re not coming with me! You’ll be killed and I refuse to let that happen! You’ll stay where I say you’ll stay!”
Kakarot growled at His words. “Who do You think I am?! You’re making it sound like I’m Yours already and I’m not! I won’t bend to every word You command of me, I still have a choice! You said so Yourself! So, I choose to go with You! I won’t have You killed either! You brought me along this journey and I intend to stick with You!”
Vegeta didn’t know whether to be relieved or disturbed at the younger’s words and growled back. “You stubborn brat! You don’t know the first thing about war! Besides, I told you already that I don’t die so easily! I do this every decade, so I suggest you leave this to someone who knows what they’re doing!”
Kakarot jerked his grip away from Him. “I don’t care! I’m still coming with You!”
Vegeta took a step closer in an intimidating manner. “Oh, no you’re not! You’re too young to witness something so catastrophic! You will be staying in the next village we come to!”
Kakarot took a step forward as well. “Why can’t I stay in this one?! What difference does it make?! You told me to never leave You’re side, am I wrong?” He ended his sentence a little more calmly than when it started, then crossed his arms and stood defiantly.
Vegeta’s fists shook. “Oh it makes a difference! The next village is a lot like your own and hasn’t been touched by war, since it has no purpose in such a predicament.” He crossed His arms as well and glared at the other.
Both sneered at each other for a few minutes, trying to come to an agreement. Kakarot relaxed his stance and sighed in defeat. “How long will You be gone?”
Vegeta kept His stance. “Every day, but I will return in the evenings.”
Kakarot sneered at Him again. “So, You’ll return when I’m asleep?! I won’t be able to see You at all!”
Vegeta smirked and gently but mockingly took a hold of the other’s chin again. “What, afraid that you’ll miss me too much?”
The younger held back the urge to blush at the touch, but pulled back and swiped the other’s hand away at His tone. “No! I just…” He paused, thinking of a way to put his emotions into words. “…don’t want to be alone.” He murmured.
Vegeta jerked back in slight surprise, then crossed His arms in thought. “Then I suggest you change your sleeping pattern so that won’t happen. After all, you can get as much sleep as you want and I’ll leave enough money for food and a place to stay for you. However,” he came forward until His face was only inches away from Kakarot’s face, “if you run, I’ll find you. You will stay with me for a minimum of five years until you make your decision. Understand?”
Kakarot took a few steps back in surprise then regained his composure. “Oh, so now I’m a prisoner?”
Vegeta sighed with impatience. “No. You are my fated one. You were meant to be with me, you just need enough time to realize it.” He crossed His arms and stared down at the other sternly.
Kakarot huffed in his place. “And why is that?! Why did I get chosen?!” He finally asked one of the questions that were bugging him all this time.
Vegeta uncrossed His arms and sneered. “I don’t know. I just followed the path that was put before me and followed it. I told you before, I don’t decide these things.”
Kakarot hesitated before answering. “Who does?”
Vegeta hesitated as well, but more in thought than in anticipation. “Fate.”
Kakarot slumped his shoulders before sighing in frustration. That was Vegeta’s sign to get His things. “I’m never going to get a straight answer out of You, am I?!”
Vegeta couldn’t help but let a small smile show, but His back was turned so the other couldn’t see. “No.” He answered simply.
Kakarot sighed again, but this time in defeat. “How long will You be a part of this war?” He asked in a tired tone. Vegeta didn’t answer as He continued getting His things together. Kakarot sneered at His back. “How long?” He repeated with more impatience.
Vegeta didn’t pause in His movements. “Until it’s over.”
Nothing prepared Kakarot for that answer. He was hoping only a few days, worst case scenario a few years, but…until it’s over? “What?! That could be years! Decades! I might be dead by the time it’s over!”
Vegeta tensed. “That all depends on your answer.”
“My answer?” It slipped the other’s mind before it returned. “Oh, the choice.” Silence ensued for a while before Kakarot decided to try a different way in talking some sense to the man. As soon as Vegeta turned with His belongings on His back, Kakarot rushed up to Him and clenched at the shirt on His chest. “Please, I’m begging You, please don’t go. You might be used to leaving behind the one’s You loved and entering war without a second thought, but I’m not. I just…” He trailed off as sorrow seeped its way into his voice. He leaned his head against Vegeta’s chest and whispered, “I don’t want to lose someone else I care about.” He shook slightly at the horrible thought.
Vegeta’s heart melted a bit at his words as He brought a hand up and placed it in the younger’s hair. “Kakarot.” He waited for the other to look at Him then moved His hand to his cheek. “Don’t worry so much about me. Besides, I’ll be fine. I may have been injured in the past, but I heal quickly and I haven’t come close to dying yet.” He smiled reassuringly to the other, but it didn’t seem to work as tears threatened to spill over in the other’s eyes at the look.
“It’s…really painful to see that look on Your face.” Kakarot wiped at his eyes before the tears could fall.
Vegeta frowned. “Why’s that?”
“Because it’s empty.” He whispered.
Vegeta stared at the younger for a moment. “We should get going or else it will be nightfall by the time we get there.” He moved passed him and headed towards the door, then paused without turning towards him. “We’ll be walking on foot this time, so you better have gotten plenty of rest.”
Kakarot watched Him a moment before He left. He sniffed, trying to rid the sorrowful moment they just had, and stood in the same place for a few minutes more. “I can tell…You don’t want to be alone either.” He whispered after the man before he hesitantly went for his belongings and followed.

As they trekked their way through grassy fields and onward to the next village, there was something nagging in the back of Kakarot’s mind. Something that should’ve been bothering him earlier, but it just now hit him. How did Vegeta rescue him from certain death in the mountains? He couldn’t just…fly down and catch him…could He? His regular strides slowed behind Vegeta as he thought about the perplexing situation. The fall felt like hours to him until he saw the rocks below…maybe not even that far. Perhaps he was only halfway down until Vegeta caught up with him. He narrowed his eyes at the man’s back in suspicion. No, it’s not possible. He was standing with the horse when he fell. It wasn’t possible for Him to run over to where he was and dive off the cliff and catch him. Why would He do something so reckless for him? Is it possible…? Is it possible that He actually…cared about him? Kakarot frowned at the thought. It seemed that was likely. After all, the man certainly treated him like a lover, but how would He know that he would accept Him or not? How does He know how comfortable He really is with the idea? Perhaps He was right. Maybe he needed to spend a little more time with Him and then he’ll be more comfortable and trusting towards Him.
Vegeta turned His head slightly towards Kakarot and noticed the boy had a far off look on his face. He was uncertain if He should ask; could be more questions He won’t answer. He narrowed His eyes slightly. “Come along, Kakarot. You’re falling behind. We’re almost there.”
Kakarot looked up from the ground and looked ahead. Sure enough, the village wasn’t far. Well, what little there was of the village. It seemed to be the same size as his, if not smaller. There didn’t appear to be much of a market, only homes. Kakarot practically jumped when he felt a warm hand slip into his and a soothing voice next to him. “Are you feeling weary?” He looked at the man beside him and squeezed His hand slightly, then slowed his walking to a halt.
Vegeta followed the movement as He stared at the other with worry. “Vegeta, how did You save me back in the mountains? I should be…I shouldn’t even be here right now.” He didn’t want to say what almost happened. He didn’t even want to think it.
The older stared towards the village with a frown. “I was hoping you would’ve forgotten that by now.”
Kakarot stared at the other’s chest; not sure if he’ll get an actual answer or not. “Please, answer me.”
Vegeta sighed. “I told you, I have many ways of transportation.”
Kakarot looked at Him in surprise. “Are You saying You…can fly?” Vegeta’s gaze stayed fixed on the village ahead while still holding the younger’s hand and nodded. Kakarot’s grip tightened on His hand as he took in the information. Vegeta didn’t flinch from the grip, but rather stayed still and waited. After a few moments, nothing prepared Vegeta for the other’s words. “Show me.”
Vegeta took a step away from the other and let go of his hand. “I already have.”
“Look, if I am to be with You, I need to know everything about You. Including what You’re capable of. Now show me.” Kakarot said sternly, however, a bit fearful in what else the man can do. Vegeta studied the other for a moment before scoffing and turning away towards the village. Kakarot ran in front of Him and blocked His path. “Don’t ignore me!”
Vegeta sneered. “I’m not interested in giving you a show, Kakarot. I don’t entertain and I certainly don’t need to prove anything to you. You either trust in my words or don’t.” He went around him and continued on His way.
Kakarot growled and ran in front of Him again. “I didn’t say that so You may entertain me!”
“Then what?! What are you trying to gain from this Kakarot? Because I don’t see anything else!” Vegeta retorted.
Kakarot grabbed a hold of His shirt with both hands. “For my sanity! I…I can’t go on another day without knowing…what You are…what You’re capable of.” He had a far off look on his face and wasn’t looking at the man in front of him. “I need to know!” He yanked on the fabric in sincerity to his words, but not tearing it.
Vegeta took a hold of Kakarot’s hands and coaxed them to release Him. After a moment of staring into desperate eyes, Vegeta swiftly picked Kakarot up and into His arms bridle style. “Alright, Kakarot. Hang on.”
Despite the warning, Kakarot was still unprepared for the burst of wind blowing against him and the sudden speed in which they were approaching the village. Not to mention they were quite a ways above it. Kakarot wrapped his arms tightly around the being carrying him and let out a shriek at the unexpected and strange movement. Vegeta held him close as they quickly approached the village, then lessened His hold when they suddenly stopped, hovering above it. It was still daylight, but the sun was setting and dusk was coming, so no one would notice them. When Kakarot was sure they were at a standstill, he chanced a peak at where they were. He gave out another shriek when he looked down and hung onto Vegeta tighter. Vegeta smirked softly and chuckled. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall.”
Kakarot turned fearful eyes to Him and gulped. “H-How…How are You…doing this?” He hesitantly looked down again, his hold still tight.
Vegeta glanced at the town below them as well, the lights slowly coming to life as they prepared for night to fall. “It comes with my true form.”
Kakarot froze in His arms before looking back at Him. “Your…true form?”
Vegeta nodded. “Yes. What you see before you is a form only human eyes can comprehend. If you saw me in my true form, you might not like what you see.”
Kakarot stared at Him a moment longer before his features turned nervous and answered. “I…suppose that can wait…for now.”
Vegeta chuckled. “Good answer.” He slowly descended towards the town below while Kakarot returned his tight hold on Him. They landed on the outskirts of town then walked towards a small inn the rural village provided while still carrying the surprised boy in His arms.
Kakarot sighed in relief, glad that they were on the ground again. He stared at the strange man carrying him again and gave Him a look of surrender. He supposed he could wait a while longer until he found out who or what this man really was. After all, he has a lot of food on his plate already, not to mention he should probably get used to being around Vegeta a while longer; maybe then he’ll find out more about Him. Hm, speaking of food. “Vegeta, I’m hungry.” Kakarot stated shyly as Vegeta laughed.
