Chapter 7: Hold Still
Jeice was rushed from the arena on a stretcher by two other world medics. It was safe to say Frieza had won fair and square - rules-wise. The alien was barely conscious, but was aware that the battle was over; a slight wave of relief took over the burning pain flowing throughout his beaten body for a few seconds.
"You did great out there buddy! It's only a few broken bones!"
Jeice just about heard a familiar serpentine voice as a blurred version of Burter appeared in front of him.
"It's gonna be okay, Jeice! You're already dead! Heh, you'll be fine!" Jeice wished that was so. It didn't stop the fact that both Frieza and Cell were stronger than him. There was only one person on his mind who he wanted to see... but he wasn't there.
"Jeice, I gotta go, okay. My match is soon. Get better!"
Jeice maneuvered his half-open eyes over to his friend as he walked out of the infirmary. Things were starting to seem clearer, but he was still wondering where Gohan was.
"You missed your match," remarked Cell as he returned the changing room after an hour to let things cool down. In the time that he'd left him, the tournament had progressed. Gohan was sat on the floor against the far wall, washed and dressed, knees huddled to his chest with his arms around them.
"Yep," he mumbled in response. If he was entirely honest, he didn't give a damn about the tournament that was going on. He wanted to just go back to his cave, curl up in a ball and go to sleep. Forever.
"That's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing you attempt to fight after being fucked so hard - "
"Just get out!" yelled Gohan angrily. He could only just about get his head around that he'd had sex with this creature, he didn't need constantly reminding of it.
"What are you so ashamed of, anyway?"
"Go away!" he spat.
"Why won't you remove your wristbands?" asked the android, not listening to Gohan's vile attempts at getting him to leave him alone.
"What?"
"You said you'd tell me. So come on, what's the big secret?" Gohan sighed in annoyance; this was the last thing he needed right now.
"Leave me alone." That didn't really do much good as he heard Cell coming closer.
"Get up."
Gohan looked away, but stood up anyway.
"You've given everything a person could physically offer to me recently. Why cover your wrists?" asked Cell, noticing Gohan's expression fall even more. Gohan finally relented, removing them quickly and placing them on the counter. Gohan stared off the the side as Cell took hold of his naked wrists. He turned them over to study the underside, to find many, many scars. Cell studied them curiously. "I don't understand."
"What?" Gohan was confused at how it wasn't obvious where those scars came from.
"You're a fighter, you have scars all over your body," said Cell. Gohan cringed at being reminded that Cell had actually seen enough of his body to know that. "Why cover these?"
"Because I did this to myself," answered Gohan. Cell still looked puzzled by it, making Gohan sigh as he got ready to explain himself. "Sometimes when I was really, really low, I needed something to help me cope. So I cut myself. I did it for years."
"How did that make you feel better? I'd have thought it would make the pain worse."
"It's like a release. Trading your inner pain for physical pain," said Gohan. "It's hard to explain... "
"So this is what I am to you," clarified the android. "I'm your knife."
"I guess so." Gohan shrugged his shoulders. "I can't seem to do it since I died. Maybe it's another version of hell, not being able to take comfort in the things that I usually can."
"Interesting... "
"If you say so," said Gohan with a wry laugh. He put his wristbands back on again, covering his scars.
"Your best friend suffered quite a beating out there." Cell smiled. He took the opportunity to stir things around; start eating away at the little piece of sanity the boy had left.
"What?!" Gohan couldn't believe that he forgot all about Jeice's match despite missing his own. Cell came closer, that twisted smile reappearing. "I-I have to go and see Jeice." Gohan turned to walk away, but was stopped by Cell's arm, as his hand slammed into the wall in front of him.
"Meet me here in one hour, I've got energy to burn."
"How?... " Gohan could barely stand after their previous round, wondering what on earth he was going to do now. He just walked away, silently agreeing to Cell's wishes.
Jeice woke up to the sound of footsteps coming towards him. Being dead was an advantage. He was almost completely healed; on the outside anyway.
"Gohan?"
"Hey," he said glumly as he came to Jeice's bed side. Jeice sat up slowly, shaking his head to kick his brain back into gear. "What happened?"
"Aaw man," began Jeice, shaking his head. "It's safe to say I won't want to face him again anytime soon. I couldn't lay a hand on him. How'd it go with Cell?"
"U-um... "
"Didn't get anywhere, huh... " said the alien uneasily. Gohan just sighed, not bothering to deny it.
"I don't know what's wrong with me... why can't I walk away?"
"Kid, he's a manipulative bastard! He's trying to make you feel as bad as he can."
"I've got to go and meet up with him in an hour ... " said Gohan, regret in his voice. "I'm just going to go. He'll only look for me if I don't."
"Be careful, kid ... "
An hour flew by. The fighters who were still in the game were getting prepared, keeping their ears open for the next match-ups through the speakers, whilst the others sat in the audience box. It was deserted. Nobody else had turned up to watch; maybe afraid of getting beaten up, or maybe they just plain hated them all.
It looked like Gohan had been disqualified for missing his last match, not that he cared much. He hesitantly made his way into the changing room, to find it deserted.
"Cell?"
He was suddenly thrown against the wall and turned round, to be face to face with Cell. I should've known. Gohan was unexpectedly shut up as Cell started kissing him. Gohan went along with it, and wrapped his arms round Cell's neck. He hated to admit that he was enjoying himself; he detested teenage libido. He felt Cell's hands travel up his chest from around his waist, then up to his neck. He wondered what he was doing - until his air supply was cut off.
It finally registered that Cell was strangling him as Gohan's eyes shot open in panic, yet the android continued to kiss him. As soon as Gohan started to whimper, Cell stopped, then let him go. Gohan coughed violently, as Cell smiled with satisfaction.
"You're incredibly easy," he sneered. "Such a whore."
Gohan shut his eyes tightly. He didn't want to listen... because Cell was right. He felt a cold hand cup the left side of his face.
"And now, you're a liar. Fooling everybody around you with your pathetic innocent act when all you're doing is betraying them. You deserve to be rotting down here."
"No - " Gohan tried vainly to push him away, refusing to let himself cry in front of him. Cell kissed his jaw line, then his bruised neck as gently as he could. As much as Gohan tried to resist, he fell for it again. The android pushed him against the wall hard in another violent kiss.
"If you don't like what you're turning into then why are you letting me do this?" He was indeed succumbing to Cell's charms again. Gohan pushed him away again. "Since you're disqualified and there's a wait between my matches, we can either train or I can fuck you again... it's up to you."
"Neither?" suggested Gohan, attempting to fight back verbally.
"Please... it doesn't take much for that whore in you to come out."
"Stop calling me that!" he cried angrily.
Cell gave him a mocking smile as his hand caressed his face, before making it's way to his left shoulder. Cell ran his thumb over the scar that he gave him years ago that was still visible to this day. "So many memories." Gohan would never have guessed what would happen next ...
CRUNCH!
The sickening sound of Gohan's shoulder being snapped and twisted into pieces echoed through the room along with his screams. Cell threw him onto the floor.
"Training it is then. Let's see how high your pain threshold is."
Gohan was so scared he didn't see the android's foot before it met with his face.
"Gohan?!" Jeice searched frantically for his young friend. He was fully healed, but heard form the others about the fact that Gohan had been a complete no-show at his last match. He checked all the doors, before bursting into the bathroom. "Oh no... "
Gohan lay on his side, unconscious, covered in blood and horrible bruises, his left arm abnormally twisted out of place. He barely even recognised the boy's face anymore; Cell was nowhere to be found.
"HELP! SOMEBODY!" he yelled down the empty corridor.
The fight between King Cold and Cell was getting well underway, from King Cold's perspective, anyway. For what felt like ten minutes of fighting for him was only about thirty seconds in actual time as Cell gained the upper hand on him almost immediately.
Gohan lay in the infirmary. His bruises were healing nicely, and so was his arm. He didn't even need to be knocked out for the pain, he'd been beaten so badly. Jeice was at his bed side, his gloved hands were on his forehead, his fingers were entangled in his white hair, while his elbows rested on the rail of Gohan's bed.
"Come on, kid... "
A raspy voice suddenly appeared from the outside speakers.
"And Cell moves on to the next round!"
Jeice cursed under his breath. Was Cell really that unstoppable? He snapped out of his thoughts when he caught Gohan turning over onto his side to face him.
"Hey, Gohan."
Gohan opened his eyes a little, still dizzy and worn out.
"What happened?" he mumbled.
"Uh... "
"Oh yeah, now I remember... "
"How are you feeling?"
"Like I got hit by a train," he said glumly.
"What did he do to you, Gohan?"
"Beat the living shit out of me," he answered bluntly. "Can we talk about it another time... I don't really want to get into it. Not yet."
"I'll leave you to get some sleep then huh?"
Gohan's sudden silence as he drifted off told him the answer, and he walked back to the arena. About half an hour later, Cell walked into the infirmary, a smirk on his face as he saw his precious toy was fast asleep. He walked over to the sleeping saiyan. Gohan had his back to him, still. Cell ran his fingers through his soft black hair, before trailing his hand across his neck to his shoulder. Gohan didn't react against the android's cold skin; then he had an idea.
Cell went towards a cabinet and picked out a tube with a blue liquid in it. He'd heard about it from Frieza during his earlier days in Hell. He picked out a syringe from the drawer and filled it up half way with the blue liquid.
Gohan woke up to the sound of a rustling empty packet. He also sensed Cell behind him him. He didn't move as he heard him approach. Cell brush the boy's hair from his neck; Gohan flinched. Now Cell knew he was awake.
"Hold still... " the android said quietly. Gohan wondered what was going to happen, until he felt a sharp pain in his neck as the needle went in.
"Hey, Gohan?"
Gohan opened his eyes; his sight was blurred slightly as he caught sight of a white-haired figure staring at him.
"Jeice?"
Jeice's face lit up as the boy answered him.
"How are you?"
"Okay. I had a weird dream, though."
"What about?"
"I can't really remember, but... I heard this rustling sound. Like an empty bag or something... " Gohan felt his memory slipping away from him and shrugged. "Oh well."
Jeice began to look uneasy.
"What is it?"
"Cell made it through to the finals. Just... thought you should know."
"Oh... okay," said Gohan, now feeling uneasy himself.
Cell had won the tournament after torturing Salza and humiliating Frieza.
Three days soon passed. Gohan couldn't sleep. He didn't even know what time of day or night it was, he'd long since lost track anyway. Maybe that was another one of Hell's undertone tortures. He'd seen Jeice a few times, but barely left his cave; he felt unbelievably weak since the tournament and he had no idea why, thought blamed it on his mental state. Today, however, he somehow found the will to go for a wander.
Eventually he found himself walking into Cell's cave. He sensed him in there, coming across him not too deep inside. He was lying down on a bed he'd made from a few old pillows and blankets. It looked like he'd been hoarding them over the years, he only had two himself.
"What brings you all the way out here?" he asked, not tearing his eyes away from the cave ceiling. He had one hand behind his head, the other over his stomach.
"What are you supposed to do with yourself all day?" he asked, resting his shoulder against the nearest wall.
"They say that your own personal hell is the worst part, but I've actually found that it's the boredom. And the silence."
"Is that why you hang around with Frieza and the others sometimes? For the noise?"
Cell sat himself up.
"What do you want, Gohan?" he asked cryptically, looking at him with a blank expression.
"I thought the numbness would stop when I died. But it's worse."
He'd cut ties with everybody he knew back in the living world. This place... this was all.
"If you want comfort, then you should have stayed in heaven while you had the chance. This is it down here. All there is are the atrocious souls around you, and the daily battle with your own brain."
Gohan always seemed to put on a front most of the time, especially in front of other people. But his guard was down completely. He was pouring his heart out to him, and all the android could provide was someone to talk at. Cell was in no position to reassure him, and neither did he want to.
Gohan turned to leave again, but stopped in his tracks. He didn't want to leave. He didn't want to be alone.
"Can I stay here for a while?" he asked in a quiet voice, almost as if he was embarrassed to be asking the question.
"Whatever," answered Cell, rolling his eyes.
As the android dusted his hands of any cave debris that seemed to get everywhere, he noticed that Gohan had come to join him on his bed, laying down next to him. Cell simply sighed, and lay back as well. They both stared at the ceiling for some time, before Gohan eventually closed his eyes for a second.
It was a good couple of hours before he woke again, finding Cell still next to him, his eyes still gazing upward. He rolled onto his side, looking intently at his face. Cell felt his eyes on him, turning his head towards him.
"What?"
"Nothing," he said. He didn't know what he was doing there. Maybe he just needed the company, even if they were merely sat in silence together. Cell turned onto his side to face him properly. Gohan suddenly felt a stirring in his stomach. Maybe he did need something more. He slowly shuffled himself closer, the android merely stayed where he was, not giving much away in his face, letting Gohan make all the decisions. The next thing he knew, Gohan's nose was touching his. He was lingering for quite a while, not daring to get any closer, then he turned his head away with a sigh.
Cell curiously watched Gohan fight with himself over what he wanted. Gohan bit his own lip nervously as he rested his head back down where it was before. After a couple of minutes more of what looked like an internal debate, Gohan finally leaned in closer, tentatively pressing his lips against Cell's. He was so timid about it that Cell barely felt it at all. He did it a second time, this time more firmly and for longer, then he turned his head away again.
"I can sense a battle going on inside your head," said Cell quietly.
He wasn't wrong. However, Gohan was losing against himself; his hell seemed to be being at odds with his own guilty conscience. But he only felt it tenfold after sleeping with Cell. And seeing as he was going to feel numb and hopeless no matter what he did, he figured... what did he have to lose? If only to feel something else for a few minutes?
Gohan cupped his face this time as he kissed him. Cell responded after a little while, letting Gohan lead for now.
"This is naughty," said Cell with a smile. He wondered if his speaking up would push Gohan away. Surprisingly, it didn't.
"I know," he whispered.
"Needy, are we?" asked Cell, lips against his ear.
"A little," laughed Gohan nervously. Cell's hand was hovering around his chest, his fingers playing with his gi.
"You sure you want to go there again?"
"I'm never sure," he answered, opening his gi up a little as an invitation. Cell paused for a second, not giving much away in his face.
"Forever is a long time," he said as he undid his belt and opened up his shirt. "You'll be adding a long list of regrets onto the torture you're already going through."
"Forever?"
"That's how long you'll be down here."
"That's true," said Gohan, watching his face as Cell played with his shirt.
"So every time you feel the need, you're just going to come find me and hope that I'll take the pain away for a moment?"
"It's the only time the pain ever stops."
Cell trailed his fingers delicately over his collar bone, Gohan remained still.
"When does it stop?"
"Huh?" Gohan was preoccupied with that cold hand moving down his torso.
"Is it when I kiss you? Or touch you?"
Gohan clammed up, not knowing what to say.
"Or is it when I'm inside you?"
"You really aren't shy, are you?" Gohan laughed nervously.
"What's the point in that? What do either of us have to hide from each other now?"
"All of it... makes the pain stop."
"Are you in pain now?"
Gohan didn't answer, he could hear his heart in his ears, his inner voice screaming at him to remove himself from the situation.
"Shall I make it stop?"
Gohan raised his trembling hand up, tenderly running the back of his fingers over the other's jaw line.
"I shouldn't."
"You're right," he answered. "So why are you still here?"
"I don't know," sighed Gohan.
"You'd rather be with me than all by yourself?"
"Do we have to talk?" Gohan was feeling more and more anxious by the second. He should go. He really should go.
"Why not? Or are you waiting for me to make a move?"
Gohan didn't know how to answer that one either. No? But absolutely yes...
He moved in closer again, his heart was pounding. He stopped as soon as their lips made contact.
"Go on, you know you want to," whispered the android against him, his hand was still on his chest, feeling his uneven breathing. "I won't stop you."
"Why don't you ever make the first move?" he finally just came out with it. He was tired of feeling so on edge every time he was near him. He could never read Cell that well.
"Do you want me to?"
"Yeah," said Gohan quietly, still lingering at his mouth.
"You sure about that?" said Cell with a devious smirk. "You want to let me loose on you?"
"Just make it stop," said Gohan without even thinking. He just wanted him to kiss him.
Cell finally closed in, melding their lips together firmly just once before breaking away. Gohan felt him smile against him as he closed in again, kissing him deeply; his eyes fell shut, he'd never been kissed like that. His breath caught in his throat as he was suddenly pushed onto his back. Cell was on top of him, laying between his legs, he had his wrists pinned down either side of his head.
"Have you any idea what I could do to you right now?" he asked in a quiet voice. Gohan's breathing was still uneven, as he simply lay there staring back up at him. "Anything I want." He went down further, nuzzling his face into Gohan's neck. Gohan struggled to breathe even more under his weight, but at the same time, it felt so good to be that close to him. "We're all alone. There's nobody here to save you."
Gohan's breathing sped up with anticipation. He felt his lips against his ear.
"You came here to get fucked didn't you? Admit it."
Cell could practically feel Gohan's voice literally get stuck in his throat as his nerves took hold of him once more; he raised his head to stare down at his face, but Gohan couldn't even look at him straight. The android smiled as he finally decided to cut him a break this time, not wringing an answer out of him. As Gohan turned his head away, his eyes closed as he felt a warm tongue gracing his neck slowly. He didn't even notice one of his wrists being freed until he felt his belt being removed.
A cold hand slid into his pants, grabbing onto him. For some reason, this time, it made him panic.
"Wait, stop... " he panted. The android complied immediately, removing his hand from him, but remained on top of him.
"What?"
Gohan's chest tightened, he knew what was coming.
"Get off me!"
Gohan didn't give him the chance to move, he shoved him off him to the side, scrambled to his feet and ran. He only got to the cave entrance before he crippled completely. He couldn't breathe. The irony wasn't lost upon him, seeing as he was dead, but this panic attack was as real as ever.
His vision blurred and he went deaf, he felt his legs go numb under him and he collapsed as he usually would have - but this time he was caught.
Cell propped him up against the cave entrance. It was obvious to him that this was a panic attack, but he didn't know what to do about it exactly.
"S-sorry... I-I can't... b-breathe... " he panted. Cell stood there silently, holding him up by his shoulder.
Gohan didn't know what set this particular episode off exactly, but sometimes there was no reason for it at all. The worst of it began to pass after a couple of minutes, and he was soon aware that Cell was stood in front of him.
"Too much for you?" asked the android curiously. He removed his hand from his shoulder as Gohan seemed to be able to hold himself up again.
"No, I just... I panic sometimes."
Gohan was being honest - that attack couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time. He'd just realised that his clothes were hanging off him, his pants were crooked and his shirt was open, exposing his torso, and he almost ran away like that.
"Shall we continue or not?"
The saiyan was still recovering, catching his breath. Immediately, he latched on to Cell's offer of an escape, throwing his arms around his shoulders and kissing him deeply. The android pushed him back against the wall of the cave entrance. Gohan felt cold hands on the bare skin of his back as he bypassed his shirt, one of them moving lower to grab his backside.
"Get your hands off him!"
That voice didn't even register as one he recognised at first as Cell was pulled off him, the android's guard completely down and not noticing anyone nearby. The next thing he knew.. Goku was stood in front of them, Piccolo not far behind.
"Dad?" he gasped, still catching his breath.
"Well this is a surprise," said Cell, smirking at this unexpected turn of events.
"Get the hell out of here, Cell!" shouted Piccolo angrily. Cell briefly looked over towards Gohan, who avoided staring back. Not even a glimpse to acknowledge that he was even there. He figured that his mind was imploding from his two worlds colliding so unexpectedly.
"Whatever. Come and find me when you're done trying to clear up this mess," he snarled towards Gohan.
"Go!"
The android gave a slight chuckle as he slithered away, taking off into the sky.
"Are you okay? What happened?" asked Goku, pulling him into a hug suddenly. Gohan immediately pushed him away, not appreciating the contact.
"Don't," he said, shaking his head.
"King Yemma told us about you, that you'd killed yourself, that you'd put yourself down here," said Piccolo. "We've been searching everywhere for you."
"What are you doing here?" Gohan didn't like this at all. He just wanted to be left alone.
"Looking for you... " his words trailed off when he'd finally processed what he'd just seen. "Gohan, why are you half dressed?"
Gohan forgot about his clothing situation yet again, attempting to cover his torso up without his belt on hand.
"Can you just leave, please," he said quietly.
"Not until you tell me what's going on!"
"Oh come on, even you can figure that one out," Gohan snapped, thinking he'd really have to spell it out for them.
"What did we just walk in on?" asked Piccolo. "He had his hands all over you... he was... kissing you!"
"Well done," Gohan remarked sarcastically.
"Gohan.. " sighed Goku, not wanting to ask a burning question.
"What?" Gohan's eyes were on the floor.
"Tell me it hasn't gone any further," said Piccolo carefully. "That he isn't forcing you to... "
"He isn't forcing me," said Gohan. He was tired of being asked that.
"Are you... uh," Goku couldn't say the words.
"Are you having sex with him?" Piccolo finally came out with it.
Gohan looked him briefly, biting his lip nervously.
"Are you?" he asked again.
"Yes," Gohan looked off to the side as he answered.
"Gohan, why would you - "
"Could you just go, please," Gohan cut Goku off completely. He didn't want to talk about it. Ever.
"You have to come with us!"
"Leave me alone!" Gohan's eyes flashed green briefly, knocking them back a little with his merely the force of his energy. For some reason, he couldn't hold it, nor transform fully, but it was enough to startle them. "I never want to see you again. Get out of here!"
Goku and Piccolo hesitantly abided, backing off and disappearing. They couldn't exactly drag him away. They'd need a different plan to get him out of there and away from Cell so they could try to talk sense into him.
Another two days passed. Gohan still felt oddly weak despite sleeping through most of it, though again he'd found the motivation to go for a walk, hoping to bump into Jeice at some point as he'd been left alone with his thoughts again for so long. He was still angry over the sudden appearance of his father, and it was still simmering away just underneath. He'd been walking for a couple of hours when he was shoved forwards from out of nowhere.
"Why can you never just say hello?" he sighed, not in the mood for games.
"Hello," said Cell flatly.
"What do you want?"
"How did your family reunion go?" he asked, malicious intent behind the question obviously. Gohan rolled his eyes.
"So you can wade in with your bullshit?" Gohan snapped aggressively. Cell laughed in response, folding his arms.
"You are so angry right now. I can kiss it better if you want?"
"Fuck off."
"Is that a no? After you were begging me for it a couple of days ago? Begging me to fuck you?"
"I'm warning you... " Gohan's anger was about to boil over. He could feel his energy surging just beneath the surface, threatening to explode at any moment. And that was exactly what Cell wanted to happen as he approached him.
"You're warning me?"
"Get out of here before I hurt you," Gohan said through his teeth, trying not to look at him, clenching his fists so hard that his fingernails began to cut into his palms.
"Go on then," taunted Cell, standing right in front of him, dropping his arms to his sides. "I won't stop you. Hit me."
"Stop it... "
Cell leaned in closer.
"Hit me, you fucking whore!"
Gohan finally snapped. His eyes flashed green again and his aura gave off a brief burst of gold before dissipating as quickly as it came. Cell caught his fist effortlessly as Gohan's power seemed to have evaporated all together in that moment.
"What the - "
Cell smiled evilly. Gohan threw his other fist towards him, punching him in the chest, but it hurt his hand without making a dent in Cell at all. The android pushed him away, letting him go.
"It's taken you five days to even test your powers after your trip to the infirmary... sloppy."
"What are you talking about?"
"You don't remember?" said Cell with a sly smirk. "I might have given you a little something while you were laid up. I know you were awake."
A short memory came back to him... the android did indeed inject him with something. Gohan put his hand on his neck as if he could feel the needle penetrating his skin still.
"What did you do to me?"
"It's a sedative."
"You've been messing with my powers?"
"Be grateful I didn't take them away completely. I could have if I wanted to."
At least that explained why he felt so weak and couldn't hold any power ups. And now he was even more freaked out that he surrendered himself to Cell again the other day. He was way more vulnerable than he thought... anything could have happened. All he could do at that moment was run. Cell offered him a little mercy this time, however, letting him go.
Gohan finally stopped running when he reached his cave, and leaned against the wall at the entrance. He was beginning to question everything he was doing. Everything felt wrong.
"Gohan?!"
Gohan looked back to see Jeice running towards him.
"Where have you been, I've been worried sick!" he cried, embracing his troubled friend in a hug. Gohan winced a little; the alien somewhat resembled his mother. All of a sudden, the saiyan started gasping, he needed oxygen. Pushing Jeice off him, he realised it wasn't the hug that was causing his sudden breathlessness.
"Dude... your halo's gone!"
What? So that was why... he was alive again.
