Floating. She was floating. At least she felt like she was floating. The feeling was familiar. Something was covering her mouth and nose. She knew where she was. A regen tank. She opened her eyes and saw Vegeta and Raditz through the green liquid that surrounded her. Vegeta looked like he was yelling at Raditz but she couldn’t hear him. Raditz said something and Vegeta curled his hand into a fist and punched him. Another comment from Raditz and the Saiyan prince punched him again. Vegeta said something to the guards behind him and they took Raditz away. He turned to look at her and noticed she was awake. He walked over to the tank and stood in front of her, crossing his arms over his chest. Lyri looked at him, her amethyst eyes questioning how long she’d have to be in there. He shrugged and she smacked the glass. He smirked and pressed the button on the tank to drain the healing fluid. Lyri waited until the fluid was below her mouth before she took the oxygen mask off. Vegeta opened the hatch and she pulled herself up onto the ledge. Vegeta helped her down from the ledge then turned and grabbed her a towel from a nearby locker. She took it and started drying her hair, waiting to Vegeta to start lecturing her.
“This is the second time since we’ve gotten back that you’ve been in a fight,” he said.
Lyri’s eyes lowered. “I’m sorry.”
Vegeta headed towards the door. “Come on, we can discuss this back in my quarters.”
She tossed the towel aside and followed him. They reached his quarters and he turned to her with a questioning look.
“Can I get out of these wet clothes? Maybe shower to get this crap off me? Please?” Lyri asked.
“Hurry up,” Vegeta told her.
She raced to the bathroom and quickly showered, raced to the bedroom and threw on a cropped t-shirt and shorts and raced back to Vegeta.
“What happened?” he asked.
“I told him to leave me alone and he flipped his shit,” Lyri told him. His look told her that he wasn’t sure if her story was true. “I swear.”
He looked at her. “Be sure that you don’t get into anymore trouble.” She nodded. He tucked her hair behind her ear and tilted her head up to look at her neck. “You’re ok?”
Lyri nodded. “Yeah,” she told him.
Vegeta looked at her for a moment longer before stepping away. “I’ll be taking you to meet my father tomorrow, so don’t run off.”
“Ok,” she said. He turned away from her to work on somethings that were on his table. “Why’d you put me in a regen tank?” she asked, “Wouldn’t I have been fine if you brought me back here?”
“Excuse me for being overly cautious,” he snapped, turning back around to glare at her, “How the hell did that bastard get his hands on you like that anyway?”
“He attacked me when my back was to him. It’s my own fault,” she told him. She continued, more to herself than to him, “I should have been more aware. Should have had my guard up. This isn’t the first time...” She drifted off, realizing that she was talking out loud.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Vegeta asked.
“Nothing,” Lyri told him, “Forget it.”
“I’m not going to forget it,” Vegeta snapped, “Now, what the hell are you talking about?”
“What do you think I’m talking about, Vegeta? This isn’t the first time Raditz has done shit like this! He’s tried things like this for as long as I can remember!” she told him.
“You should have told someone,” Vegeta told her.
“Who? The king? We both know he would have done nothing. Kiki was too young to do anything. Bardock and Gine did the best the could, given that he’s their son and I’m just someone they took in,” Lyri said.
“You should have come to me,” he said.
“Would you have even believed me?” Lyri asked. The look on his face told her that he wouldn’t have. “I dealt with it by avoiding him as best as I could. Today I slipped up. It won’t happen again.”
A knock on the door interrupted them. Vegeta walked over and answered it.
“Sir, the scientist girl is asking to see her,” the guard on the other side of the door said.
Vegeta grabbed the guard by the throat and shoved him into the wall outside the door. “Listen and listen well. I don’t give a shit about your personal feelings about my intended. But she is my intended and you will treat her with respect. Do I make myself clear?” The guard nodded and Vegeta dropped him. “Get out of my sight.” He went to find Bulma and led her back to his quarters. Bulma looked relieved when she saw Lyri.
“Thank god your ok,” she said coming up to the female Saiyan.
“I’m fine,” Lyri told her.
“You’re sure?” Bulma asked.
“Yes,” Lyri told her, “He caught me off guard.”
“Who was he?” Bulma asked.
Lyri was about to answer when a knock came from the door again. Vegeta opened the door only to have Kakarot barge in.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Vegeta asked.
“I came to see Lyri,” Kakarot told him.
“Well, look who’s popular,” Vegeta said. Lyri flipped him off.
“I’m serious! He could have squashed you like a grape,” Kakarot said.
Vegeta snorted at the same time Lyri said, “Please.”
“Don’t please me!” Kakarot said.
“Ok,” Lyri said, “Do Bardock and Gine know?”
Kakarot shrugged. “Don’t know. Maybe?”
“Fuck. Gine will worry her ass off if she knows,” Lyri said. She looked at Vegeta.
He nodded towards the door. “Go,” he said.
Lyri walked over to him and kissed him, grateful that he understood. “Thank you,” she said before heading out the door, Kakarot on her heels. They raced out of the palace and flew through the capital until they reached the village where they grew up, stopping in front a familiar house. They walked in.
“Kakarot, Lyri, what are you two doing here?” Gine asked.
“You didn’t hear about what happened?” Kakarot asked.
“I hadn’t had the chance to tell her,” Bardock said coming up behind Gine. He stared at Lyri. “You’re ok?”
Lyri nodded. “I’m fine.”
“What happened?” Gine asked.
“Nothing,” Bardock told her.
Gine looked between the three of them. “You three are a bunch of liars.”
“No, we’re not,” Lyri and Kakarot said in unison.
“How many times did I hear that when you two were growing up?” Gine asked, “Didn’t believe it then and I don’t believe it now.” She headed for the kitchen. “You two staying for dinner?”
“Do you have to ask?” Kakarot said as he followed her.
Bardock walked over to Lyri. “You sure you’re ok?”
“I’m sure,” Lyri told him.
“So, you and the prince?” Bardock asked.
“Yeah,” Lyri said.
“He didn’t think to challenge me?” Bardock asked.
Lyri shrugged. “He’s the prince. Does he really need permission?”
“I suppose not. You’re happy?” he asked.
“Yes. Very,” she told him.
“Good. I’m glad,” he said, “Let’s go see what Gine is cooking.”
Lyri ate with her adoptive family and afterwards left for the palace, Kakarot deciding to stay with his parents. It was dark when she returned. She opened the door to Vegeta’s quarters and found him on the balcony. She walked out to him.
“Thanks again,” she said. He nodded. Lyri leaned on the balcony and looked at the sky. They stood together for a couple minutes before Vegeta said, “We should get some sleep.” Lyri followed him inside, changed into a new cropped shirt and climbed into bed. Vegeta climbed in next to her. Lyri scooted closer to him.
“Can I?” she asked.
He nodded and wrapped her arm around her after she laid her head on his shoulder.
“What if your father sees through this?” Lyri asked.
“He won’t,” Vegeta told her.
“You don’t know that,” she said.
“He won’t,” he repeated.
“But-“ she said.
“He won’t,” he said more forcefully.
Lyri was quiet. She laid there trying to fall asleep but she was too nervous. Vegeta eventually fell asleep and she listened to his breathing. She eventually fell asleep. Vegeta woke her, gently shaking her awake a while later.
“Get dressed,” he told her.
Lyri got up and walked into the closet, pulling out the garment bag. She opened the bag and stepped into the form-fitting strapless blue under black lace dress. Holding the dress to her chest, she stepped out and went to find Vegeta.
“Hey,” she said finding him in the living space already dressed, “Can you zip me?” He walked over to her and she turned around. He zipped her dress. She turned around to face him. “Do I look ok?”
Vegeta looked her up and down. “You look fine.”
Lyri slipped on a pair of black kitten heels then started to braid her hair.
“Leave it down,” Vegeta told her. She shook her hair out, letting it cascade down her back. “Let’s go,” he said. He started to open the door when Lyri stopped him.
“Wait...” she said. When he turned to look at her, she surprised him by kissing him. “For luck,” she whispered.
Vegeta closed the door, and pushed her up against it. Lyri looked at him. “Stop doing that. You know how I feel about having a mate.”
“Hmm. And yet you sleep with me in your arms every night,” Lyri teased.
Vegeta said nothing, a small blush spreading across his cheeks.
“I’m also not the one currently pinning someone to the door,” Lyri continued.
Vegeta’s blush deepened. “Shut up!”
“Make me,” Lyri told him. She was surprised when he forcefully kissed her. His arm snaked around her waist, pulling her closer to him. His tongue invaded her mouth and she wrapped her arms around him. Everything else faded away, and it seemed for a moment they were the only two people in universe.
“We should go...” Vegeta muttered against her lips.
“Do we have to?” Lyri whispered.
“Father is expecting us,” he told her. He kissed her once more before stepping back. Lyri stepped away from the door and took Vegeta’s arm when he offered it. They walked down to the king’s office in silence. Lyri’s heart pounded in her chest and Vegeta glanced at her.
“It’ll be fine,” he said, his voice low so only she could hear.
“Says the man that has no consequences should this not work out,” she whispered.
“Don’t be stupid,” he muttered, “We’d both be charged with treason and crimes against the crown and sentenced to death.”
“That makes me feel so much better,” Lyri whispered sarcastically.
They stopped outside the office and Vegeta knocked on the door.
“Enter,” came a voice from inside the room. Vegeta opened the door and led Lyri inside. King Vegeta sat behind a desk, going over paperwork with Kiki standing next to him.
“Father,” Vegeta said. The king looked up, he looked from his son to Lyri. His gaze lingered on her for several minutes before he turned back to his son. “This is Lyri,” Vegeta said, “My intended.”
Lyri lowered her head respectfully. “My king.”
“Cute, son,” King Vegeta said turning back to his paperwork.
“She is, isn’t she?” Vegeta said, smirking when his father glared at him.
“Come back when you find someone who’s more...” King Vegeta paused to look Lyri over, “Saiyan.”
Lyri tightened her grip on Vegeta’s arm and bit her tongue.
“Strike a nerve?” Kiki asked.
“Not at all,” Lyri answered with a fake smile.
“She is Saiyan,” Vegeta said angrily.
King Vegeta glared at his son. “I won’t give my blessing.”
“No one asked you to. She is my intended and she will be my mate. End of discussion,” Vegeta told him. He turn to lead him and Lyri out of the office.
“By the way,” King Vegeta said, “Frieza wants you on his ship. I’m giving you three days to get your affairs in order...including finding a new intended.”
Vegeta slammed the door as he and Lyri left.
King Vegeta stared at the door. “Kiki, on your next mission...see to it that she doesn’t return.”
“What do you want me to do?” Kiki asked.
“Sell her. Kill her. I don’t care. Just make sure she doesn’t come back,” King Vegeta said.
