If anything interesting had happened in the movie, Zeo Zagart couldn't tell you about it. Frankly, beyond paying for the tickets to know the title was Delivered Chaos, he couldn't tell you what the genre was! Maybe it had action, romance, a foreign film with subtitles; the guy in the seat at his right could have caught fire, but all Zeo could process was an inner bliss over being seated beside Tyson Granger.
Tyson's upper arm brushing against his, Tyson's hand softly passing by his as they shared a large Cheetos popcorn together, how his fingertips would spider over the back of Zeo's hand which just happened to be there at the right time; he was so keeping the straw when Tyson sipped from his cup, after asking for a sip of punch instead of drinking from his soda. Zeo could tell the play-by-play of every move Tyson made. But the movie.. wasn't even a blip on the radar.
'And to think.. not long ago I was feeling sick because I'd killed Rei. Then I was down because Tyson hung out with the guys more than me. But I slept over, got video of him washing, and now we're lovers! I didn't imagine Tyson kissing me.'
Balance. Even when you've done something bad, life doesn't see you as a bad person, who should only suffer. He's getting the upside of the seesaw now. If the analogy was true, then the downside was waiting for him with a heavy thud to the butt. And it goes by the name of Bryan.
Zeo and Tyson left the theater, talking excitedly; the musician mostly agreeing to anything his beloved said, since he didn't pay attention to the movie.
"I probably would wanna be a Hitman, if the pay was good enough."
'Hitman!? What in the world?'
"Bryan, dude, hey!" Tyson waved then dashed over closer. "I.." He suddenly became somber. "I'm sorry, about what happened to Rei. It was so messed up. I still can't really believe it, ya know."
Bryan, Zeo thought as he looked him over, looks like a pretty mean guy. He's round but pointed features all scream.. well, Hitman. 'Rei was dating someone like him?'
"I know what you mean," he looked around as if he suddenly realized he's on the streets. "I feel like he's gonna show up here, watch a movie with me, then suggest dumplings or pot-stickers, like he always does."
"What's up with that look?" Asked Granger when seeing the wistful look turn utterly miserable, however, there's a tinge of anger as well.
"I just realized that maybe he wouldn't be with me," he shrugged his shoulder, the action more to calm himself than to appear nonchalant. "We broke up three days before…"
"Why? You guys were so good together."
'Uh-oh.' Zeo turned away, planning to escape. 'Exit stage left.'
Tyson noticed Zeo's movement, latching onto him he spins him face forward. "I forgot, this is Zeo," he introduced.
Bryan glared sharply. "Zeo, huh? It's funny, the guy Rei left me for is named Zeo."
"What are the odds?" Replied the shrinking musician.
"I'd say pretty good; you wouldn't happen to play any instruments, would you, Zeo?" his presence loomed over the shorter male.
"Instruments? Me? Who plays music anymore?"
Tyson grinned, and proudly exclaimed. "Zeo here plays a killer violin!"
"Yeah, a relationship killer."
Scratching the back of his head, below his multicolored cap, Tyson wondered. "Huh?"
Zeo could have begged with money that Bryan speak no further about the situation. It was all a huge mistake. But, fate has him on the seesaw, so here came the bad.
"Guess he didn't have time to tell you, but the Pied Piper here lured him away with his magical melody. And yet, here you are with one of Rei's best friends like he never even mattered."
Zeo stammered for something to say, but Tyson cut-in for him.
"Yeah right, he's never even met Rei. That can't be true. And even if it is, it isn't Zeo's fault."
"Yeah. If Rei liked me, he never said a thing to me. I never met him."
Bryan looked surprised to hear that. "Really?"
"Really."
"Looks like he never got around to telling anyone but me."
Tyson nodded. "Maybe he didn't wanna tell anyone but you. It's your relationship. But, you can't kill the reason why, if he didn't know anything about it."
"You're right, Tyson."
"Course I am." He smiled impishly. Knowing Granger, he felt he was always right.
"And Bryan, no offense but, if Rei could be lured away that easily.. would you really want to love someone like that?"
Big mistake. He didn't have time to brace himself before everything went dark.
Zeo groaned when he came-to. "What happened?" he looked around, finding that he's no longer outside, but inside the theater, seated on a bench in the concessions area.
"Yeah, most times when you meet with Bryan, his temper is a three comments away from throwing out a greeting of its own." Helping his friend to sit up, he rubs his arm.
"I don't see what I said as so wrong, it's true."
Annoyance flashed across Tyson's face, then he touched Zeo's black eye as he spoke. "Let's just stop talking about Rei ever again."
"Okay. Sorry." He nearly rolled his eyes as he thought. 'I never wanted to talk about Rei in the first place, there's an easy task.' He hissed when Tyson's touch caused a sting of pain at his eye socket.
"Sorry. At least there's no chance of scaring." Tyson sighed. "You probably wanna go home now."
"Hmm? No. Not if you don't wanna.." his eyes pleaded for him to want to stay together.
"Naah. I'm gonna head home. Thanks for hanging with me." Giving him a hug, he pulled away then added. "And for being there with Dragoon."
"Sure.." He hides a frown. "Can I give you a ride home?" Barnaby should be coming by any minute to get them. He knows the time the movie was to end.
"I'm gonna hoof it. See ya, Zeo." Getting up from the bench, he walked away as if he'd been alone all along.
'Stupid Bryan. Stupid Rei- No! Stupid Kenny! He started this!' Wincing when touching the tender eye, he stood up. 'Just wait until I see that little creep.'
Zeo didn't have to wait for long. He was still in the mainstream of town when the nerdy little liar turned up, exiting an ice cream parlor.
A big grin spread across the face of the vacationing genius. "Zeo! Hey! I was just about to call you out for ice cream, but.." He blinks. "Gee, what happened to your eye? Did somebody beat you up?"
"One hit isn't a fight." Retorts the bruised teen. "Nevermind that, why'd you lie?"
"Lie about what?" Genuinely confused, he took a nip from his orange cream flavor ice cream. "I haven't seen you in ages."
"It was before you left! You lied about Rei liking Tyson,"
Kenny wondered about that. "Right… What did I say? I can't recall lying about them.."
"You said.." He leaned in to hiss, when noticing they're drawing a crowds glancing attention. "You said they were lovers, when they weren't. That lie."
"But they could have been." He completely missed the reason it matters. "And anyway, why are you so worked up about it? Do you like Rei or Tyson?"
Blanched, Zeo glared at his steadily declining friend in order to school his words down. "You just shouldn't make up things about people without knowing."
"You're acting weird."
"And you're acting like an ass! How is it that you were my best friend, but you still don't know me?"
Kenny shook his head. "Zeo, maybe you can talk to me later, once you've calmed down." Stepping past him, he says. "I should get home; and my ice cream is melting."
'Disrespectful bastard!' Spinning the little nerd around, Zeo took a page from Bryan and belted him right in the eye.
"Zeo! What's gotten into you?!" He yelped when another hit came his way, then another.
The foot traffic murmured about teens being volatile, and too wild now a days. No one stopped the fight; with places to be, why get involved? Except one person did care enough to stop the pitiful display of abuse.
"Just learn to watch what you say, or.." his fist was caught mid-swing. Turning around to look over his shoulder, he sees Kai Hiwatari. He looks quite pissed.
"Wanna tell me what you're doing to the Chief?" he asked in command rather than request.
"Stay out of it, it's none of your business." Zeo yanked his arm free. "He's my best friend, I can fight with him if I want to."
"Ex-best friend. I don't think I like you anymore, Zeo. You've become weird, and violent." Getting a hand up from Kai, he then brushed gravel and dirt from his shorts.
Zeo meant to say something, but he quieted. This was not good. This was going to get back to Tyson, surely. 'Damage control.. Damage control..' That's it! Everyone's ace-in-hole, the best scapegoat for bad, unusual behavior. "I'm sorry.. I'm just.. I'm still in shock over Rei's death."
Crossing his arms over his chest, the moment-intruder retorts in his hefty tone. "You didn't even know him." And don't those grey eyes look smug, having brushed that excuse aside.
'Kai.. He's out to ruin me! I knew he didn't like me.'
Zeo got up from his stooped position, grit his teeth, fist balled up in anger, then he turned and fled! This, as it seems, was not his best day.
...
Zeo sat in his bedroom sulking. How was he going to explain this predicament to Tyson? There's no way Kenny and Kai aren't giving his dearest love the play-by-play of what went down. "It isn't fair!" He declared, throwing up his hands. "Just when things were going my way.. I had to screw it up again."
Because his first mistake, and he hated to admit it, but he should not have killed Rei. They could have talked, left it at that. But, he went and stuck him with a knife, of course the young manager was spooked. Who wouldn't be? If it were him, Zeo, he'd of shouted bloody murder while fleeing for the exit.
"Why can't I just admit to Tyson that I like him?" Zeo cocked his brow. "Why can't I just tell him? It would be easy. A lot easier than hoping he'll fall for me on his own." Grabbing his phone, he dialed Tyson's number with a single push. "Busy. I knew it. They're telling on me. That's so immature." Folding his arms and legs, he went into deep thought. Damage control. What can he do? Hearing his phone ringing, he picked it up. It's Tyson.
Zeo almost took the call, almost. But, better judgement told him to stop playing with a loaded gun, he's already lost both feet, does he really wanna shoot for a leg? No. Hanging up the call before the voicemail could come on, he placed his phone in the drawer beneath his bed. Out of sight, out of mind. Collapsing backwards, he closed his eyes, and continued his sulking.
"Master, Zeo?" William knocked on the bedroom door before entering. "You have a visitor."
'Tyson?' He sat upright in a bolt.
But it wasn't Tyson who walked in, it was Kai Hiwatari.
The pair sat quietly throughout the maid bringing in unasked for refreshments of oatmeal cookies, and a glass of berry iced tea. The selection was to compliment the raisins in the cookies. When the middle-aged woman left, all pretenses and politeness went with her, they visibly relaxed into a controlled aura of "I hate you".
"Why, if you like Tyson, do you not ask him out? Why beat up on Kenny?"
"I do not. And he's my friend, friends fight each other all the time." Crossing his arms, he snips. "Tyson had nothing to do with it."
"That's bull', kid, and you know it."
"I'm a year under you," he hated being called a child. His father makes him feel small all the time.
"With the way you're acting, could have fooled me."
"Whatever. Why'd you come here? If you think you've got it all figured out."
Kai tsked. "You reek of desperation. Everywhere Tyson is, you are; everything he's enthusiastic about, what a coincidence, you like it too."
"People share interests." He left out the implied "loser".
"Not as hard as you..." Glaring, he commands in a tone that's friendly. "Zeo, just leave Tyson alone. Don't come around to his house, don't follow him around town... Just pretend that you've never met."
"Now who sounds obsessive."
"Don't be stupid. It's for your own good."
"'My own good'. Who are you, my father?"
"Thankfully, no." Standing up, he leans over the small table between them. "Stay away from Tyson, Zeo. I don't wanna have to repeat myself."
'Ooh, you're real scary.' He remained silent, as Kai walked out.
But once the door closed, Zeo tossed the cookies and tea to the floor by sweeping his arm across the table. Hands balled up, he pounds repeatedly on the table, then gripped his hair, pulling it as if to remove his entire scalp in one quick whoosh. Then, gradually, he calmed down.
'If Kai thinks he can intimidate me, and worse.. take Tyson out of my life.. He's got another thing coming. No one is going to come between Tyson and me.'
Grabbing his tablet, he typed out Kai's name in the search bar. Kai's family has money, and status, their address must be listed. Bingo. Maybe the vicious visitor needs to have a little instilled fear of his own.
Two weeks later.
During the hours of some just getting in and others just going out, Zeo joined those of the 11 pm prowl. He's dressed in all black of a shirt, despite the heat, a ball cap, and jeans. He even found black socks. His sneakers are blue and grey, but who's gonna look at his feet? It'll be a simple job. In and out.
"Master, Zeo?" The butler called to him.
Zeo froze. What was William doing up? His hours ended two hours ago. He should be dreaming about better things at this point, not skulking around in the Halls of the mansion. Turning around to face the trusted employee, the prowler responds with a question. Aren't you tired? My dad and those stuffy dinner guest always run you ragged, you shouldn't be bothering with me."
"I've become worried about you, as of late. You recently always seem upset, or harried."
Brows furrowed together in wonder of why he took such an interest, then he recalled that William has always taken care of him, far more than his father. But, there are still some things one does not tell to his butler. Murder. Fights, being fought. Just hush-hush sorts of business. Now, he was just going out for a late night snack, he'd willingly give out the information. He'd even invite the fatherly servant along. But, the activity of tonight, he has to keep to himself.
"I'm going out for a walk. Just around; I'll be back by one, maybe sooner."
"…And is there any reason you're dressed to rob a bank?"
"Well," he smiled cheekily. "Where do you think my dad gets all his money? Science isn't a profitable occupation."
William's laughed, the emotion crinkled the sides of his eyes. "And," back to serious matters, his tone all professional for authority of not going to mind his business. "you will tell me, should something be a matter?"
Zeo blinked. Tell him? "I will. If something were wrong. But right now, I'm just going out to swipe your seasonal bonus," he joked to lighten the mood.
"Oh, better be off then. Bali is nice that time of year, be sure to get a lot."
Zeo smiled, waving goodbye in his departure. 'Phew. Now to get going.'
Hiwatari manor was enormous! And he thought his family had it good. A courtyard here, pillars there, a fountain.
'Snap out of it, my family's house in Paris could house this place,'
Luxury. No big deal. Sneaking around to the side of the home, he peered into each window to identify the room. Living room, den, kitchen, butler's pantry. Dining room. Zeo rolled his eyes. Of course Kai's bedroom would be on the second floor. But that wasn't going to deter him. He just needed a way in. Bingo.
Wrapping his arms around one of the two pillars close to the mansion, he uses his thighs to work his way up the length of it. He steadied his nerves then turned his body, as he lunges the short distance to a wide balcony. Trying the door handle, it pulls open. Who would lock a door on the second story that wasn't directly inside of the house? Not many. Because not many believe that someone would go out of their way to get in when there's no lattice, or near steppingstone type bricking to climb like a ladder. Just some pillars and a distance, saying "I would not try for it". But, Zeo tried, and succeeded.
Access granted. He stepped into the home, finding not a bedroom but a hall. Fancy. His gaze shifts left then to the right. Where would Kai's bedroom be? Sneaking along, he glanced into four rooms on the left, turning around after having reached the end, then he went right. Zeo passed only one room before hitting pay dirt. One last check to ensure privacy of being spotted, he hurriedly entered the bedroom.
The next day.
"If you wanted to redecorate, rock star's hotel room was not the way to go, Kai." Ozuma assessed the bedroom in its damaged state. It looked like a hurricane shrank down to size, kept its ferocity, and personally trashed Kai's bedroom. "You can't really have woken up to this. Maybe you were walking in your sleep."
"Or slam dancing with a vengeance." Max chimed in. He walked over to the 70 inch flat screen, turning it over. No sense in setting it back onto the stand, the screen is busted.
"It was Zeo." Stated the pissed off teen.
Max spun around to face Kai, when hearing that. "Zeo?! Squeaky, overly ecstatic, Zeo Zagart?" he laughed. "Come on."
"I'm serious. He did this to get back at me, for telling him off and making sure he stays away from Tyson."
"Tyson?" wondered Ozuma.
"Why'd you tell him off? And what does Tyson have to do with anything?" wide-eyed, he wondered in a slight panic. "He isn't out to get him! That's impossible."
"He is, but not in the way you mean." Kai explained what went down between Zeo and Kenny. Then about how the infatuated lonely Zagart has been falling over himself for Tyson. "He's in love with him."
"Ya know," replied Max after a moment's thought. "He was sorta ignoring me that day he gave Tyson and me a lift. But, how does beating up Kenny have anything to do with that?"
"Kenny told me he thought Tyson and Rei were together." Explained Kai. "He must have thought Chief was messing with him, to piss him off or make him insecure."
Ozuma laughed. "That's kinda pathetic, if it's true."
"Have you told Tyson?" Max asked. He wasn't sure whether he found it comical or worrisome. After all, if Zeo really has messed up Kai's bedroom, who knows what he's capable of.
"No."
Gasped, he blurted out in shock. "Why not? In case you're wrong?"
"No. I'm definitely right, I just know how Tyson gets when you tell him to stop doing something. He's pig-headed. Which will only have him suddenly interested in Zeo."
"You have a point there." Ozuma sighed his frustration.
"Which is why I went to Zeo, to try backing him off."
"I wondered why he wasn't hanging around us last week," Max made a guilty laugh. "I kinda thought he'd just gone back to Kenny."
"We should be so lucky." Kai looked around at the mess.
The mansion staff was going to clean it all up once the police have checked for fingerprints, but they have yet to come and do it. They are waiting for Kai and his friends to leave them alone to their work.
Max scratched his cheek. "Any ideas?"
"We say nothing, but, we become Tyson's shadow. Nobody leave him alone with Zeo. Got it?"
Ozuma and Max speak in unison. "Got it."
At the Granger home.
Tyson opened the front gate. He was greeted with a big smile. "Hey, Zeo."
"Hi, Tyson! Mind if we talk?"
