This is really getting annoying. I can\'t sleep again. This is the third night in a row where I haven\'t been able to fall asleep, and it\'s really starting to get to me. I\'d talk to Sally about these bouts of insomnia, but I know exactly what the cause is. Stress.
Now what exactly do I have to be stressed about? Let\'s see. Duo\'s still not awake, and it’s starting to worry everyone. Everyday he\'s asleep, it will lessen the chances he\'ll wake up at all. I don\'t want to sound like a pessimist here, but things are starting to look worse by the day. Trowa\'s practically having to drag Heero from the hospital at night, because we found out he wasn\'t sleeping. So I\'m stuck in my empty bed, lonely even though there isn\'t the constant press buzz following me around anymore. I was really starting to understand why most celebrities crawl under rocks. It\'s damn annoying having people follow you everywhere.
Then there\'s the fact that most of the news talk shows are chattering about hate crimes and gay rights lately. My name is becoming a household word, as is Duo\'s. People are clattering about how the rights of homosexuals have been ignored for too long. Hell, they\'re treating it like any other minority issue, but this isn\'t a matter of race. It\'s a matter of sexual preference. Christian collations are up in arms about the whole mess, and I\'m being called up to be on Larry King Live just so others can chastise me. Needless to say, I declined. I don\'t want to point out to the spiritual leaders of the country that they\'re the ones who are raising these hateful people while trying to tell them they have the bible wrong. Besides, what would a Muslim know about Christianity anyway? They wouldn\'t listen if I told them, \"A hell of a lot more then you do, apparently\" and started quoting the bible back to them. It would only add ire to their fears, which only serves to make things worse.
I should really be stronger aboveryverything, but it\'s hard to do while you’re pulling a double work load and worried about losing your best friend. It just doesn\'t seem right to be sleeping well at night when any moment I could get that call. The one that\'ll either make me really happy or homicidal. That and I miss Trowa.
It\'s only been a few weeks since he started sleeping over every night, and I know that\'s not nearly enough time to become this used to his being here, but I do. Can anyone fault me for doing it? Well, besides the fact that I should keep my own feelings in check because there\'s other things I need to be worrying about. Like...everything. But I still find myself laying in bed in the wee hours before dawn missing his steady breathing and warm body...oh by Allah. I\'m waxing poetic in my insomniatic state. I think I need mental help or sleep. One or the other would definitely be beneficial.
11:43 am
It\'s almost lunch time and it seems that the shifts are changing. No nurses for approximate 10 more minutes. Everyone else went off to eat, leaving me here to watch Duo. I have a cup of coffee and a plan. This has always worked in the past at least. Now if I can figure out how to get the cup under his nose...
11:47 am
Okay, there is no possible way to get a Styrofoam coffee cup under the nose of someone reclining on their back. It\'s logistically impossible. Maybe if I...Well I just need something to fan with.
12:01 pm
Heero walked in while I was fanning at the coffee with a file folder. It was at least wng tng the scent to Duo...maybe. It took him a few seconds to realize what exactly was going on, but then he took the folder away and walked out of the room...
Oh wait he\'s back with a...straw? He must have learned the coffee trick too, and taken it to the next level apparently because he just dibbled some on Duo\'s lips
Oh Allah be praised...Duo\'s awake.
3:12 pm
He\'s sore and cranky, but he\'s acting just like Duo, which is a very good thing. It means no amnesia. I don\'t think anyone would have handled that well.
And yes, I know I should have gotten the doctors first, but Duo and Heero needed some time alone, so I ran back to my office and got all the horrible newspaper clippings and such that dealt with this whole mess. If I know my brother, he\'ll want to see them and read every single line three times. That\'s just Duo. He lives by the \"there’s no such thing as bad press\" motto, basically because even a rumor is a good thing. At least people are noticing you. I never understood that myself.
Lucy nearly fell out of her chair when I gave her the good news and came back to the clinic with me, but not before stopping off at the cafeteria to tell Howard and Hilde. They didn\'t like to go far at lunch, just in case. Of course this was the just in case.
I can\'t believe how giddy I am. I\'m shaking, although that could be the caffeine overdose coupled with the lack of sleep. But who cares? Duo\'s awake. He\'s awake and albeit he\'s not talking as much as usual, but that\'s to be expected with his jaw wired shut. But everyone\'s happy. Even the police are happy, except they can\'t talk to him yet. I won\'t let them. Not yet. He just woke up. No need to rehash all that stuff until everyone\'s ready. I didn\'t even waver when they told me I could be arrested for impeding an investigation. What investigation; they know who did it. I identified the men already. They don\'t need Duo to talk right away. Just eventually. Which is exactly what I told them before my security team threw the detectives out on their asses. Tomorrow would be a better time anyway. Duo might be able to talk more.
This whole security team deal is something I\'ve gotten used to. They really aren\'t all that bad of guys. Quite jovial, as a matter of fact. And it\'s not so bad having them follow me around. It\'s not like they\'re everywhere. Just around if I go out or something along those lines.
Oh, someone just told me it\'s time to go home and sleep. Something about doctor\'s orders...and look, there\'s Trowa. Maybe I\'ll be able to sleep this time.
